Atol Lem
Round 1, Initiative 12, Location AL 42 → AM 40
Weapon Equipped = Cudgel & Wand of Cure Light Wounds
Conditions = Blessed
Channel Energy Left: 5/7
Resistant Touch Left: 8/8
Strength Surge Left: 7/8
Cleric Spells Remaining:
0) Create Water, Guidance, Light, Purify Food & Drink
1) Command, Protection from Evil, Remove Fear
Atol steps in to AM 40 and heals an already injured party. He avoids healing the injured opposition.
1d6 ⇒ 5 points of healing for all injured allies.
I don't like the look of this. Our toughest fight yet!
Don't forget the Bless that is still running. +1 to hit and saves vs fear.
Finneas Glenn
No difference on the speed or crit but I wanted to make sure.
Round 1 Init 11
HP = 14/17
AC = 18
Weapon Equipped = Greataxe
Speed = 20'
Oracle Spells Left (CL 1, +4 melee touch, +0 ranged touch):
1 4/5 Divine Favor, Shield of Faith, Cure Light Wounds, Enlarge Person
Status Effects = Bless (~15 rounds), Divine Favor (8 rounds)
Finneas, seeing the situation he is in, backs up to prevent more hobgoblins piling in on him. Although he looks longingly at the lever, the back of the strange hound is far too tempting for him to ignore.
5' to {AM,38}, no actual flank bonus
Greataxe on spike dog
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 101d12 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Glimmil
Feel free to IM me if things get stuck on me to let me know. I can usually respond to an IM while I'm buried in the marathon of meetings. It's digesting your posts and posting back that is difficult from my little phone's screen!
Cog doesn't know any better and will take the attack on the howler.
Glimmil is saving his AoO for Kazmojen.
Cog, seeing another adversary, bites out at the other creature. Glimmil keeps his eyes focused on the slaver as holy light radiates from his being.
Cog attack (bite, bless): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Cog damage (bite): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Cog trip (bless): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
I think we have a prone howler :)
Crap, almost forgot that was a critical hit!
Cog critical confirm (bite, bless): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Cog damage (bite): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
GM_Chris
Cog bites the howler as it leaps over its head, but the howler still lands on all four (CMD 22) and bites him back (above).
Kazmojen then stands up (provoking from Glimmil). Once standing, he cuts down Cog.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
1d8 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Glimmil has the following actions to resolve:
- An AoO against Kazmojen
- A ride check to make to land on his feet after Cog is taken down
- His turn in Round 2.
Then the bad guys get to go again.
Glimmil
As Glimmil watches Kazmojen rise, he swings his axe with all his strength at the hobgoblin.
Glimmil AoO (axe, bless, smite, power): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Glimmil Damage (axe, smite, power): 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
I'll wait for the Ride check to see if Cog still takes the damage from the prone howler (who I presume will stand with his standard lest Uber-Finn destroy him?).
GM_Chris
I'll wait for the Ride check to see if Cog still takes the damage from the prone howler (who I presume will stand with his standard lest Uber-Finn destroy him?).
It doesn't break it down like the riding dog, but the howler's CMD vs trip would be 26. Cog is down. At least he got his crit in. I would have struck from prone and hit anyway as it turned out.
Glimmil
Damn, moving target of CMD!
"Cog!!!" Glimmil cries out, half in anger, half in tears as his new friend is cut down by the slaver.
The gnome deftly leaps to his feat to continue assaulting these truly terrible do-badders.
Ride: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
EDIT - with Atol's channel Cog is stable at -4 (he was at -9HP, the "true death" comes at -15HP).
Glimmil
With all that's going on, I didn't realize it was me at the top of Round 2, too.
Round 2, Init 20
With Cog down, Glimmil is torn on what to do next. He chokes down his tears and concentrates on the fight. Knowing he's surrounded, he works to bolster his defenses against the two enemies so his friends can get into position.
Glimmil Attack (axe, bless, smite, defensively): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Glimmil Damage (axe, smite): 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Then he backs away slightly, hoping the two won't be able to coordinate against him as they did against Cog.
In the bravest voice he can muster he taunts at them both, assuring them of the consequences of their actions.
"You will both die! I will see to it!"
5ft step to (AP,37).
AC vs Howler: 23 (21 + 2 defensively)
AC vs Kazmo: 25 (21 +3 smite +2 defensively)
EDIT -- Oops, forgot Glimmil doesn't have his shield out! Lowering the base AC by 2.
GM_Chris
Round 2
The howler steps 5' to AN39-AO39 and tears a chunk off of Glimmil's thigh.
1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 2 = 30
1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 2 = 20 - no confirm
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 damage
Kazmojen roars, "You should have paid the gold. Now you pay in blood!" His abnormally long arms sweep the urgrosh axe at Glimmil, but it goes high. He then steps up to AP36 next to Glimmil.
1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 2 = 16
Hob1 steps to AM37 and cuts Finneas on the side.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Hob2 steps to AL38 and flanks Finneas. The longsword cuts deep into Finneas's side as he is surrounded and bleeding profusely.
1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 2 = 19
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
More to follow, but working by phone and don't want to lose anything.
GM_Chris
Through the blood Glimmil notices that Kazmojen's wounds are closing.
In the hallway beyond the oncoming hobgoblins the "dwarf" can be seen walking away carrying his small chest of gold while two mounds of roiling flesh drag a large chest between them.
The pack of four hobgoblins from the hallway double move and flow into the room and stop at
5- AM34
6- AM36
7- AK37
8- AL37
Beyond these another four hobgoblins can be seen beyond the "dwarf".
Hob3 continues to stand at the lever with his hand now on it.
Party is up. Sorry, but no map until I get home. At least my laptop is back and working. I'm noting on a print out. If you can't follow, Finneas is stuck and can't 5' out of threatening even if Silfir or the doctor move. Glimmil is against the raised platform. Atol and Dyrant are not being threatened at this time. I think Silfir might want to modify his move, but can keep his roll.
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt
Round 2, Init 13 {AM39 > AL37?}
Dr. Toffitt will wait for Silfr to get in position on the other side of the howler, and strike out at it.
Rapier + 8 + 2 flank
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 + 2 flank
1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (4) = 7
If that kills the howler, he will then move to AL37 by way of AK38, provoking from the hobgoblin in AL38 but attempting to tumble into the final square, avoiding the other hobgoblin's attack. If the howler is still standing, he will tumble out of the first square and into the last square, still trying to only provoke from Hob2.
Acrobatics + 9
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29 If you need two rolls.
Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted
Since the party goes all at once, they might want to wait and see the results of Dyrant's sleep spell (especially Finn)...or not. I'll leave it up to those who want to live. A new map might be helpful for targetting purposes.
GM_Chris

You could go AN/AO-35/36 and catch:
Kazmojen
Howler
Hob5
Hob6
You can go one north of that and get Hob1 and Hob8 instead of Kazmojen
Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted
Not going after the dog or Kazmojen at all, if possible. All hobgoblins if I can. I'd like to get 4 hobgobs, if not that, then 3. Ideally, I'd like to get Finn to the spiny doggie for some lovin'. Of course, with the way you roll saves against me...
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt
Dr. Toffitt hears Dyrant casting something. Does he know what it is? Would he have reason to suspect sleep otherwise?
Spellcraft +6
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Finding his original intended path blocked, he moves to AO34 if the dog is down, or AL39 if it's not.
Save against pain: Reflex +9
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Damage from quills: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt
I'll wait too. Internet is flaky where I'm staying so may be a bit slow to post. Euan can ping me if I'm holding things up. :-p
GM_Chris
My rattling familiar bones in a box predict
= Finneas with a 5' step to AN39, swing and hit of howler.
= Dyrant's sleep spell at AL/AM-36/37 with saves of
Edited for Dyrant's actual spell at AK/AL-36/37
- Hob1 - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
- Hob2 - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
- Hob6 - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
- Hob7 - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
- Hob8 - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
= Doctor 5' to AM38, hits and kills howler.
= Silfir goes to help Glimmil against Kazmojen and misses
= Atol channels
= Dyrant wards Finneas
Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted
Then I get to kill you all...
Yay for new map. Frowny face :( for killing us all. :(
Silfir, Toffitt, Atol, Finneas, & Dyrant are up. I know that Atol & Silfr will be delaying for Dyrant's spell. Anyone else?
Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted
Round 2, Init 9
On his turn, Dyrant's droning oration-spell will reach a fever nadir as the nasally monotone seems to hone in on a particular section of his audience.
Focusing his memorized Sleep oration-spell at the focal point of AK-AL:36-37, Dyrant will attempt to put HobGobs #1, 2, 6, 7, 8 to sleep, DC 15 Will Save. He can put 4HD to sleep so all should make saves even though there are 5 targets, only 4 will be affected. Not getting the spiny mean doggie.
On his turn, Dyrant will nod to Atol, fellow bastion of St. Cuthbert's divine might, and hold his holy symbol aloft in his right hand, focusing the ire and disdain of St. Cuthbert upon Kazmojen the Smelly.
"The Angels sing of your demise, Kazmojen, they have given us the power to end your rule here. St. Cuthbert demands it."
Dyrant will give him a look of pity for his pathetic soul, causing creeping doubt to enter his mind.
(7 rounds/1round on save DC 15) Inflict penalties (-2 to AC, attacks, saves, or skills). Choosing -2 on all his SAVES.
With that Dyrant will nod to Atol.
"Get him, Atol, he is weak."
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt
Round 2, Init 13 {AM39 > AP38}
Revised based on map and trend of round.
Dr. Toffitt moves to the other side of the howler, rather than forcing Silfr to expose himself to it's bite. Taking advantage of the distraction that Finneas provides on the creature's flank, he lunges at the creature.
These are the results from above.
Rapier + 8 + 2 flank
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 + 2 flank
1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (4) = 7
He winces as the creature's barbs pierce his flesh, but none of them become lodged in him.
From above:
Save against pain: Reflex +9
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Damage from quills: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Atol Lem
Round 2, Initiative 8, Location AM 40
Weapon Equipped = Cudgel & Wand of Cure Light Wounds
Conditions = Blessed
Channel Energy Left: 5/7
Resistant Touch Left: 8/8
Strength Surge Left: 7/8
Cleric Spells Remaining:
0) Create Water, Guidance, Light, Purify Food & Drink
1) Protection from Evil, Remove Fear
Atol delays until after Dyrant, then casts Command (DC 16) on Kazmojen.
”Thank you Dyrant."
Atol turns to Kazmojen, "St. Cuthbert has found you wanting, and in his name I command you to flee!”
Atol channels energy cutting out Kazmojen and the Howler for 1d6 ⇒ 5 healing.
Then Atol digs a smokestick out of his pack.
Silfr
Now Silfr is waiting to see if anyone killed the Howler before that init, since he is now last. Assuming the howler is still up, he will strike it as I posted earlier...Finneas is still ahead of Silfr.
Round 1: Cog crit bite on AoO = 6 + 5 = 11
Round 1, init 13: 4 damage from the Doctor's anemic strike
Round 2, init 13: 7 more damage from the Doctor.
Round 2, init 8: If howler is still up, replay Silfr's previous strike (thanks Chris) For 15 damage.
Total 37
GM_Chris
Toffitt takes a casual stroll along the side of the howler (confirmed via IM) to a flank. The howler takes a chunk out of his arm when he first moves and continues to snap at him, but doesn't connect again.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 - Howler
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 - damage
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 - Hobgoblin
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt
Ouch! GM_Chris' luck beats mine again!
Dr. Toffitt activates his controlled rage as the round ends, boosting his agility.
AC: 26 (ward is no longer up, but +2 AC from +4 to Dex, which is now 24)
HP: 5/19
Weapon Equipped = Rapier
Shield Equipped = Buckler
Mutagen: USED (+4 Dex, +2 AC, -2 Will, 10 minute duration)
Controlled Rage: 3 of 4 rounds used

Round 2 so far
Dyrant - Sleep spell goes off. Hexes Kazmojen.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 - fails
Toffitt - Moves to flank, gets bit, hits howler
Silfir - (sickened with quills stuck in him) steps up and hits howler
Still to go:
Atol - Howler is still up, but might be down in a minute. Holding off for now.
Finneas -
Glimmil -
New Map Sleeping hobgoblins in red circles.
Glimmil
Round 3, Init 20
Finding himself in a better defensive position, Glimmil returns to powerful Gnomish swings towards the long-armed slaver.
AC now 24 vs Kazmojen (21 base +3 smite)
"Eee-hah!"
Glimmil Attack (axe, bless, smite, power): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Glimmil Damage (axe, smite, power): 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Round 2 Init 7 {AM38}
HP = 2/17
AC = 18
Weapon Equipped = Greataxe
Speed = 20'
Oracle Spells Left (CL 1, +4 melee touch, +0 ranged touch):
1 4/5 Divine Favor, Shield of Faith, Cure Light Wounds, Enlarge Person
Status Effects = Bless (~14 rounds), Divine Favor (7 rounds)
Finneas, bleeding from multiple wounds, takes what is likely to be his last swing.
I have failed again.
Greataxe, Bless, Divine Favor, Flanking
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 231d12 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
I he is still standing Finneas will move 5' to AN39.
GM_Chris
Round 2 Init 7 {AM38}
Finneas, bleeding from multiple wounds, takes what is likely to be his last swing.
The howler and Finneas both bleed profusely and growl at each other, but it is Finneas that strikes first. The howler drops, but Finneas pays the price as quills pierce him. None of the quills stick in him, but it is still enough to drop him. The two combatants lie slumped together as Finneas's axe somehow bounces off the ground landing 10' away atop a sleeping goblin.
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 - quill damage
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 - reflex save for quills
1d8 ⇒ 7 - Haunted drop (axe lands in AM36)
GM_Chris
Round 2 so far
Dyrant - Sleep spell goes off. Hexes Kazmojen.
1d20+4 - fails
Toffitt - Moves to flank, gets bit, hits howler
Silfir - (sickened with quills stuck in him) steps up and hits howlerStill to go:
Atol - Howler is still up, but might be down in a minute. Holding off for now.
Finneas -
Glimmil -
With Finneas down, I'm guessing Atol chooses to channel. Finneas wakes up prone and without his axe in AM38.
Glimmil missed.
Kazomjen and goblins to go.
GM_Chris
Round 3
The hobgoblin (HOB2) next to Finneas shakes off the attempted sleep spell, but sees three of his companions drop. Finneas and the howler drop, but then the cleric begins healing people. The hobgoblin reopens the wounds Atol healed and Finneas's eyes shut again. The hobgoblin then steps closer to Atol.
1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 4 = 18
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
The last hobgoblin (HOB5) standing in the room charges Glimmil and manages to drive his sword into Glimmil's side where his shield normally would have been.
1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 1 = 21
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Kazmojen wails to see his companion go down and steps next to Toffitt, but swings wildly not even coming close to the doctor.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
The hobgoblins in the hallway make it to the doors as the dwarf, his chests, and the masses of flesh disappear into the distance.
The sounds of more armored creatures coming from the corners of the fortress can be heard.
GM_Chris
My accounting:
Howler (45 dmg)
Kazmojen (27 dmg - 2 rounds of regen)
Hobgoblins (4 asleep, rest unhurt)
Finneas (was at 2 HP, 5 quill damage, 5 healing, 4 longsword damage, now -3 HP)
Atol - Unhurt
Dyrant - Unhurt
Cog - (13+9 damage, 5+5 healing) He's awake again at 1 HP
Glimmil - 16/23 HP - Just hit by hobgoblin for 7
Silfir - Unhurt
Toffitt - 5/19 HP
Thanks to those showing their status each round!
EDIT: I forgot to move Kazmojen and put Cog back on the map. Kazmojen is at AP37 and Cog would be where Kazmojen was at AP36.
GM_Chris
Didn't actually write it, but the party is up. I'm experimenting with this group initiative thing, so for now I'll just have downed party members such as Finneas make a stabilization roll after everyone else has gone. Also, if someone brings him to positive hit points, he can act this round. The benefits of not stressing over individual initiatives outweighs my concern that a player might get an extra attack. However, any saves on a player's turn such as poison--not applicable now--would still need to be made before the player acted each round.
I also see the potential for chaos, as people delay and delay for others to act. Hopefully, we'll find a happy medium where people will post and others will then post taking previous posts into account rather than asking others to delay or rewrite their turns.
If it gets too crazy, we can go back to a more formal initiative order.
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt
wifi is down so I only have my phone for posts. How do you guys do it? Anyway, toffitt should have 10 HP thanks to surge. However, Im really not sure why Atol would still choose to surge, given other options. Scaring Kaz away is arguably more strategic. But assuming that is irrevocable... Anyway, I can't load the new map, but...
Dr. Toffitt shouts to Glimmil, "Flank him! Quickly!" He readies an action to strike once he is in flank, and if necessary takes his own 5' step. Will that work?

I'll leave it up to Atol.
Atol Lem
If it's not irrevocable, I would rather the command go through, then I'll surge this round at the top of the round so no one has to change their status. I understand that should mean that the hobgoblin attacks me instead of Finneas as he's down when that swing occurs?

Sounds good. He saves.

Okay then... Poo.
Dr. Toffitt Shouts to Glimmil, "Flank him! Quickly!" He readies an action to strike once he is in flank, and if necessary takes his own 5' step.

Round 4, Init 20
Status: 16/23 HP
Flank?
Glimmil looks for a way to get around Kazmojen, know he moves so much slower when he's not riding Cog, who he realizes has miraculously sprung back to life.
Hopefully Cog keeps attacking the last target he was fighting without a Handle Animal roll. If so...
Cog Attack (bite, bless): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Cog Damage (bite): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Cog Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
If only I could teach a dog what "flank" meant. Of course he's probably think I was saying "steak"...
Shaking himself from his distracting thoough, Glimmil drops his axe to the ground and retrieves his hammer and shield while moving into a position to provide the doctor with his much ballyhooed flank.
Move 15ft to provide flank: (AP,36)->(AO,35-)>(AN,36)
This provokes 2 AoOs from Kazmojen and the hobgoblin. Garl Glittergold save me from the evil GM's rolls!
With shield:
AC vs Kazmo: 23+2+3=28
AC vs generic hobgoblins: 25
Glimmil then swings his hammer at Kazmojen, hoping to smite him down.
Glimmil Attack (hammer, bless, flank, smite): 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 2 + 1 = 29
Glimmil Damage (hammer, smite): 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10

Round 4, Init 20
Shaking himself from his distracting thoough, Glimmil drops his axe to the ground and retrieves his hammer and shield while moving into a position to provide the doctor with his much ballyhooed flank.
It's a move action to ready a shield. The rules allow you to ready the shield or draw the hammer while moving, but not both. Since your only other option is to use to move action to draw both, I'm guessing you moved and struck without the shield.
