Shackled City (Pathfinder) - GM_Chris

Game Master Chris Shannon 719

This will be the Shackled City adventure path using the Pathfinder rule set. However, the existing deities (i.e. St. Cuthbert, Pelor, Wee Jas) will not be converted to similar Golarion gods.

Finneas will happily donate all hide that can't be used as armor (whatever the armorer doesn't want) to the Cobwaddles.

News of the Cauldron Five's return spreads quickly throughout the city. More than a few people stop party members on the street or in taverns to inquire of their well being and ensure the party is not going anywhere. People seem to relax and life seems almost normal.

A few days after returning, Glimmil turns the corner to Ghelve's to find the placed demolished. Nothing but a hole to Jzadirune remains. Before Glimmil can spy what evil creature caused such destruction, Ellywinkle pops up from the chaos.

"Glimmmil!!!" She rushes over and gives him an uncomfortably long hug. "It's so good to see you. I'm sorry I haven't come by to see you, but I've been so busy. What do you think?" She waves her hand at the pile of rubble.

Seeing the blank look in Glimmil's eyes she will continue. "You got the plans didn't you? For the gate? The grand entrance?"

"Ghelve was tired of people trouncing through his shop to get into Jzadirune so he finally gave in and consented to moving in so that we could build a proper entrance."

"It will have gilded golden steps and archways large enough for an ogre. People will come from everywhere just to see the entrance and then they will marvel at the wonders below. We're thinking of images of dragons circling above with gnomes fighting them."

"We also got a few of the smaller mechancial thing-a-ma-gic-al-a-bobs to work. They'll skitter about entertain the kids--of course, hopefully we won't have any more accident. We were never able to reattach poor Garlia's finger."

Atol finds plenty of time to spend working in the garden with Alexander between hours of scribing scrolls. With the winter rains past and more sunshine, the garden grows quickly. Jenya worries constantly and harrasses him for questions he can't answer except for his quiet resolute faith which she finds comforting.

Asfelkir does his best to make Finnneas feel welcome while quietly probing about his well being. As the days pass the others at the temple relax some, but still eye him warily. Only Asfelkir spars with Finneas, but it's not clear if they're afraid of Finneas's eye or just his ability.

Dyrant enjoys days of crafting, preaching and research. He makes several trips to the Cusp of Sunrise--despite their inferior gristle--but no one has seen or heard word of Lady "Clevage". It's as if she's disappeared from the face of the world.

The days don't pass so quickly for Toffitt. His concoctions send him to bed or curling up in a corner more often than not. It's all he can do to get eight solid hours of work in each day. It's probably good that Carts is gone considering the condition he's in. Despite the side effects, Toffitt is convinced he's on the right track and continues foward on the regimen he has set for himself.

Aralynn spends her nights zipping about Cauldron and even venturing out beyond the rim of the volcano.

"I must learn about this place. Every nook and crany. I can't simply sit here and watch you sleep in your dragon guts and silver headband like some oversized baby wearing a diaper and pretending to be a prince. What would that Lady say if you ever invited her here? My, what a big belt you have?"

Too far or not far enough. It's so hard to tell some days.

Hm. Lich dust. Bitumen. Quetzalcoatl feather... Yes, seems to be workING. AGH. Toffitt dry heaves some more, then turns back to his bitter tea. Another sip. He gags a bit. And another. Ugh. He begins a regimen of stretching, ending up with both legs behind his head.

The feather... Strange effervescent note to it. Like my whole spirit is bubbling. I really must look more closely at its properties... Felt nice, despite the heaves...

Glimmil gulps nervously at the sight of Ellywinkle, and once again loses the capacity of speech for several moments.

Luckily, Cog understands his master well, and with a nudge managed to bring Glimmil back to his senses.

"Wow! This is amazing! Absolutely amazing! A grand gate to Jzadirune! You know... I fought some dragons when I was in the Abyss, too!"

As Glimmil paces around, he picks up some bent metal leftover from the demolition of Ghelve's shop, clearly seeing "spoonlike" properties.

"How is the temple? I was about to go check up on Shanna and Commander Rand."

Glimmil wrote:

"The temple is coming along. Some engineers from Sasserine stayed and they're trying to work out a way for seats to be in the temple that then sink into the floor. They almost had it worked out, but then the ideas got bigger. Instead of rows of seats, they wanted the ability to have tables with seats around them. Then, of course, simply having the seats sink into the floor wasn't enough. People wanted them to march or dance out of the room. But then the tune they would move to couldn't be decided upon. Right now the top two contenders are Gold Gold Gold! and The Short Shall Overcome."

"Shanna has returned to Sasserine, but Randle is doing well. He has the recruits marching as well as the chairs. Well, almost."

Ah yes. Coatl feather, gold dust, HOLY WATER, bitumen and a saint's tears. Well, maybe not the latter. Now my spirit shall be as at peace with the Beast as my body.

He goes to Skie's for some of the remaining ingredients. Upon return to the house, he can't help but give a bit of a scholarly lecture while he's there. "Twas thought that only the gods and their priests could set a man's soul aright, with prayers or a great deal of self-flagellation. But I have found a formula that can suck the evil out of a contrite man, without divine intervention. As with many things, it is a matter of rebalancing the humors."

He speaks with a note of fervor, as if his quest for self-created purity would put him on an even footing with his priestly friends. One need not give obeisance to the gods to be just. I have proven it with this tincture.

At the talk of rising chairs and tables, marching and dancing, Glimmil begins to flush and grow anxious.

"That's brilliant! I can't wait to see!"

Glimmil completes a final circuit of the Opening-That-Was-Ghelves and imagines a grand gateway with large arches.

"Hey, my friend Finneas loves working on gates. I think he worked on Cauldron's main gate, so we should absolutely get him involved. He has an eye for such things..."

Glimmil smiles at himself, content with his poorly-chosen pun and guides Cog deeper into New Jzadirune to check on Randle.

Definitely, go pay him a visit!"

As Glimmil and Cog descend, Glimmil hums to himself his own invented version of Gold! Gold Gold!, occasionally switching the lyrics to Cog! Cog! Cog!.

Bounce, bounce. "Hello?"

"I'm sorry to bother you. You look rather tired and sweaty--are those muscles on the muscles? Have you been wrestling with demons? Sir Glimmil does and said you have helped him many times."

"Would you like some wine?" Ellywinkle holds out a wineskin to Finneas.

"It's good. Really. I'm afraid it's all I have. I could buy you some lunch if you'd like."

Ellywinkle stares up at Finneas.

"Oh, right. I wanted to discuss Jzadirune with you. Or rather, the new Jzardirune. Or rather, the big gate that would lead into Jzardirune. So, it's not really Jzardirune. It's more Cauldron. And, Sir Glimmil said you've built things before in Cauldron. Uh, anyway, would you be willing to help? It'd be for the good of gnome-kind. Well, the good of all Cauldron really."

Two weeks since returning from the abyss, the party sits down for a meal at the Slippery Eel Tavern. Aroon serves Dyrant a heaping bowl of gristle stew, but the others receive platters of food that look like they came from the Cusp of Sunrise aside from the fact they are served on wooden planks.

"Thank you very much for everything you have done for Cauldron. Our "leaders" might be absent these days, but at least you're here for us."

What is it to see in colors and lights every fiber of one's being transforming? Mortal humors becoming preserved at the smallest level, and yet still functionally alive. Is it a series of explosions? Does my +2 trait bonus vs poison/drugs apply? I still miss it either way...

Dear Atol. You have the Blessing of St. Cuthbert. Please remember the +3 to your saves. Also, the Cudgel loves you. Now wake the freak up and start kicking ass. Love, Dyrant.

Not going to retcon to Round 1, but Atol can act in Round 2.

More than fair GM_Chris thanks. Thanks Dyrant!

Round 2, Initiative 22, Location: slumped in my chair->standing
Atol awakens from his cat-nap wrapped in silence. He stands up out of his chair (move - doesn't provoke?) and draws his cudgel. Not completely sure what's going on in his haze (don't you hate being awoken from a nap early?) he bestows resolve on the party (supernatural, doesn't provoke, should work in silence)*.

*Bestow Resolve(su): +16 temporary hit points to all allies within 20' for 1 minute

Will save vs Unholy Blight: 1d20 + 17 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 17 + 3 = 24

Round 3, Initiative 22, Location: standing
Concerned for Aroon as well as the rest of the party, Atol channels energy carving out any wounded opponents (up to three). He will also take a few steps back from the brawl to see if he can find the limit of the silence. After all they're casting spells, so the radius can't be that big. Or so he thinks...
Channel Energy healing: 8d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3, 1, 2, 5, 4, 5) = 27

Atol would be armed and armored through town, but he wouldn't be carrying his backpack and likely no scrolls either.

Atol steps over Toffitt's body back to the corner (F-23) and finds only silence.

Round 3

Dyrant awakes to the pain in his back...mostly caused by the half-orc's greatsword upon his hurt form.

Cursing mightily (and silently), Dyrant will give the casters a mighty stink eye, but decides to wait to see if Finn can take down the orc before he acts.

Aralynn will fly to the stone (provoking from the orc) and pick it up.

Edit: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 Will Save (blight)

Do the temporary hitpoints from Atol stack with my Raging temporary hitpoints? I assume so but haven't listed them in my statline in case they don't. Also since I raged after taking damage I believe the channel in round 3 will restore me to full hp?

Finneas steps around to assist Cog with the evil half-orc that is actually evil and not just evil enough to ignore unholy blight.

Round 3, part 2

He will glare angrily at the orc (and the nearby female), thoughts of retribution in his eyes and mind.

Dyrant will stand up and 5' step to G20.

Retribution (7 round(s)) (DC 23) (Su) Foe in 60 ft suffers half the melee damage it deals, ignoring resist, for duration (Will neg).

Round 3 Con't

As Glimmil observes both Dyrant and Atol returning to action, his gaze lingers on the unmoving form of the doctor.

"Dyrant! Atol! What about the doctor? Should I try to restore him, or go after those wizard do-bads?"

"What? Glim, kill stuff! I don't know what's wrong with the Doctor, but he'll be fine. I'm sure Atol will get him."

Toffitt continues to lie face down on the table as the battle rages silently.

Atol heals everyone and also buffers them against further damage.

Dyrant stares at the half-orc.
will save half-orc: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 I'm unclear. Does the woman need to save too?
will save woman: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

Cog takes a bite out of the evil half-orc's leg, the more evil half-orc that is. Glimmil heals Dryant the rest of the way so that he can survive a round.

Finneas rages and rages at his luck and digs down into his reserves to finally score a hit.

The woman casts, steps and heals the half-orc.
4d8 + 7 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 8) + 7 = 23

The half-orc slashes at Dyrant. It continues even after realizing from the first hit what will happen.

1: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (5) + 22 = 27
2d6 + 17 ⇒ (5, 5) + 17 = 27

haste: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (5) + 22 = 27
2d6 + 17 ⇒ (6, 3) + 17 = 26

The caster tries to finish off Dyrant with some magic missles, but to his dismay finds Dyrant to have been healed and buffed quite sufficiently to survive. The caster moves, but Aroon remains motionless while everyone else has fled the tavern.
5d4 + 5 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 3, 2) + 5 = 16.

There was some space competition. I just went with what made sense.
