The stairs lead down to a bare chamber, save for the lighting: a lone torch in a sconce. An iron bound door at the base of the stairs faces north.

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |

Can one of you boys try to open it? And if it's locked, Ash, can you pick it?
I'll stand where I'd have clear LoS through the door if it was opened and wait.

Gay Master |

the bare room is lit by two sconces holding torches. A reinforced set of double doors at the end of the hallway looks like it might lead outside. four other doors line the hallway, two on the left, two on the right.

Gay Master |

No windows on these doors, just iron bound wood.
What does spawn look like?

Gay Master |

You open the first door on the left?
I didn't say its locked, just that its a regular iron bound oak door, not a door that has windows in it.
I've also just got no clue what Spawn looks like, whether he's bipedal/quadrupedal, has hands, etc.
Glancing inside that room, Spawn sees a plain room, with a single cluttered desk and a couple of chairs. Theres paperwork scattered about the desk in a clutter. The room is lit by a pair of sconces holding torches.

Gay Master |

There's a door in center of the north wall of the room, and a door in the west wall of the room in the north corner.

gridlock's perception check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Not your thing or not, you spend a minute searching the desk and manage to find amidst the clutter that the papers are very uninteresting. But there is a complete map of the prison and the location of all the guard posts.
the paperwork is more dense and requires more time to read through.
will post the found map soon.

Gay Master |

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |

Paperwork could be useful. Wish I had a bag to stash this in.
I try to cram anything interesting looking in the prison clothes pockets/waistband as best I can.
If anyone has a way to make fire, it might be a good idea to use the rest of this as kindling and light this f@!%ing place on fire on our way out. And then let's go out the front door and try to use the window on the north outer wall to bypass the gatehouse. Then we can run up the peninsula, kill any guards at location 1 here on the map, and run away.

Gay Master |

Haven't looked.
The papers will take about ten minutes to read through.
If you do, give me an intelligence check.

Gay Master |

Taking the time, Forsythe begins reading the papers. What do the rest of you do in those ten minutes? Any doors opening or simultaneous exploration?

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |

Come on boys, let's go through the rooms, starting with the upper left (marked 15 on this map, here) and moving top to bottom, left to right. If we don't see anything interesting, it should be do-able by the time Forsythe finishes sifting through all that paperwork.
I don't want to go exploring by myself because I'm a frail little thing, but if a couple of them come with me it should be fine.

Gay Master |

you begin exploring the upper left room.
this appears to simply be the slovenly- kept bed chamber of the sergeant of the guard. There is a bed, a small table and wardrobe which contain Blackerly’s personal effects which are by in large worthless.
anyone else doing some exploration in the meantime?

Gay Master |

There's always taking 20...

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |

If Loran (and others with me?) doesn't/don't see anything, it probably makes more sense (IC) to go through different rooms, then circle back to ones that seemed more boring than expected, like this one.
OOC, I know that there is potential loot, but that's alright.

Gay Master |

Very valid

Gay Master |

10 minutes passes, you collaborate on searching the room.
in that time Forsythe realizes its blatantly obvious that Sergeant Blackerly has been stealing from the prison.
Temperance and Loran uncover the flask of some substance, and a locked iron chest from beneath the bed. Eyes turn to Ash, who fishes the thieve's tools out of his pocket and begins to try to unlock the chest.

Gay Master |

the flask has some sort of alcohol and herb mixture. presumably a very potent alcohol, almost a poison. The herbs would likely be most effective on dogs.
you take a few minutes more and are unable to open the chest. Its a good lock.

Gay Master |

Room 13 on the map is locked. Do you want to keep exploring?
its been about 15 minutes since you left the cells upstairs. Its quiet outside.

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |

While ash is playing with unlocking stuff, I want to see if there is a window to look outside. I'll look through rooms 4,10,14,11. Also, a quick search of the rooms to see if there's anything interesting in them. not a take 20, super long search or anything.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 10 room 4
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 7 room 10
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 8 room 14
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 14 room 11

Gay Master |

do you possibly mean room 9 ? or do you mean area 4, the fountain outside your building?
already familiar ( everyone is kind of in room 14 at the moment ) you don't see any windows, its where the desk was with blackerly papers. Forsythe barely reacts to your presence. Gridlock is watching the door in the hallway ( 8 ), while Ash fiddles with the locked door to room 13. Loran and Spawn are still sniffing around in Blackerly's bedroom.
You go across the hall to the only door and peek in room 10. noticing doors to the north and south. the room looks big, its got a few wooden tables and benches, and smells of spilled soup and mead. A banner emblazoned with the emblem of Branderscar prison , a xxx, hangs on the eastern wall.
Peeking north into room 9 ( which could look like a 4 given the font ), the simple room looks like it has a few cots and a dozen chests, all locked, probably their barracks for rest between shift changes, for those that are on duty. Fatso upstairs said their "relief" wasn't due for another few hours.
Still no windows.
Peeking south into room 11, it looks like a well-stocked kitchen and pantry. plates, bowls and other cooking paraphanelia abound. A huge fireplace, almost comically large, in the south wall, a relic of the old castle's great hall. A fire burning in the fireplace, the room smelling like stew and baking bread. A door leads east, according to your map, it goes outside.
room 12 is the only unexplored room. i presume you take a peek there too. or try to. the door is however locked.
gm roll: 1d20 ⇒ 4
As the door to the kitchen closes, you hear a whimper barely escape, someone is hiding in the kitchen. maybe two someones as you hear a scuff on stone.

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |

I walk back to the rest of the group, and try to gather Gridlock, Loran and Spawn to help me take care of the sneak(s).
Hey guys, I heard some noise from the kitchen, seems like a sneak or few are in there. Let's go take care of them before they escape or cry for help.
Yea, I just wanted to search all the rooms. Really hard to read the numbers with the size of the picture (even zoomed in they're really fuzzy).

Leo the Punisher |

**Everything is still spinning**
**I hear sounds of shackles hitting the ground, and sounds of fighting around me**
**Finally waking up from the beatings the guards gave me**
**Opening eyes....seeing the door open and the guards bodies lying on the ground**
If I am still dreaming, I am going to escape as part of my dream.

Gay Master |

Leo wakes on the cold stone floor, arm aching still from his brand. oddly finding himself not in chains, but in a cell full of dead, dying, and extremely frightened guards. One screams as you wake up and get up, walking out of the cell, then quiets down. At the stairwell, Grumblejack sees the fellow prisoner coming down the stairs, and motions him inside.

Grumblejack_SPWW |

Who you be little man? Why you no wake up and get free before? Me am Grumblejack
a towering, but slouched, ogre, waits at the base of the stairs, peeking around the door into the hallway. Obviously injured, he nonetheless holds a medium longsword in his enormous hand, making it look like a dagger.
Grid', we got 'nother 'un. Guy from your cell, he says around the door to a heavily muscled Orc standing guard at the next door down the hall.

Leo the Punisher |

I'm Leo.
I guess Blackerly didn't take to kindly of me speaking ill of his mother and sister.
A male Aasimar, beaten badly, branded not only on his hand but his chest as well. Trying to get his orientation up to date, searches his surroundings for a weapon.
Shall we press on?

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |

Ok, Leo, let's figure out who was making noise in the kitchen, then we should check out the back door, and then see about getting out of here. It's quiet right now, but a few guards escaped so have likely called for reinforcements.
