About Leo the Punisher

Leo the Punisher

12 years. Devotion, service to Mitra. Every day for 12 years was filled with service and devotion to Mitra. Assigned to Monsignor Hispas, of the Church of Mitra. Daily life was the same day in and day out. First morning chores, then I prepared meals for the Monsignor. Hours spent in silent prayer and meditation, reflection to the Shining Lord. Afternoons I would fix mid day meal for the Monsignor and then make preparations for church services. Following the church service I was charged with the cleaning of the church, on my hands and knees scrubbing clean the filth of the congregation. Once completed I prepared the nightly meal for the Monsignor. Idle time was spent on my knees, meditating, praying to the Shining Lord. As the clocks were set by the events happening in the church, at the 10th bell toll many would come to seek the council of Monsignor Hispas. Many women of the congregation would come late night calling the Monsignor for his spiritual guidance. Upon the 11th bell upon the hour, the women would complete their counseling session and return to their lives. Most would return home to their husbands. At 11 and one half past the hour, I would bring the Monsignor his night cap cordial to drink. A mix of herbs and alcohol, an old recipe for a good night's sleep.

For 12 years….every day I asked for guidance. I asked for a larger role to perform in the world. For 12 years I asked the Shining Lord to fill me with radiance and purpose.

Three days ago….I was answered.

Upon the 10th bell toll a woman came for counsel from the Monsignor. As I knelt for meditation and prayer, I closed my eyes and asked for guidance. A chill crept over my body and a voice came to me.
Leonatis…What is it that you seek?
In my mind I answered…Purpose.
Leonatis…I can provide a great purpose for you. This world is full of heretics that must pay the ultimate price. They must be purged from this land. For 12 years you have been lied to.
In my mind I answered…Lied? How? By Who?
Leonatis…Mitra has shackled your potential, and has corrupted your vision.
I opened my eyes…Surrounded by a black fog. A dark figure floated before me.
Leonatis…Follow me…Through my darkness we will exhaust the light.
I rose to my feet, surrounded by the black fog I walked. I felt as though I was walking on air. As I breathed in the black fog I felt my mind becoming clearer. As I walked towards the sleeping chambers of the Monsignor every hair stood up upon my neck. As I peered through the doorway I saw what kind of council the Monsignor had been giving.
Leonatis…The Monsignor seems to be giving an awful stern counseling to this married woman. Is this what Shining Lord expects from loyal subjects?
I felt my anger rise…
Leonatis…This city of peace is a lie. We cannot let this perversion take place any longer. All must know the truth.
As the words were spoken, forming in my hands was a dark blade of fog…
Leonatis…The Monsignor and his cheating whore MUST be purged from these lands.
I felt strength flowing through me that I never knew before.
Leonatis…You see the purpose before you. The heretics must pay the ultimate price. They must be purged from the land.
I whispered…I agree.
There I was, standing next to the bed shrouded in a black fog, wielding a dark blade. The Monsignor and his whore unable to see me. Dark magic was flowing through my body.
Leonatis…The heretics of the Shining Lord must be purged.
I whispered…From the land.
Leonatis… Are you prepared to serve me? Speak my name, and I will give you purpose. I will answer your prayers. Purge the heretics!
I gritted my teeth…I raised the dark blade over my head. As I stabbed downward at the Monsignor, the black fog dissipated from me. The dark blade pierced the back of the Monsignor as I screamed Asmodeus. The dark blade passed though the man and straight down through the woman he was so fiercely counseling. For the first time in 12 years, I smiled. I kept smiling the entire time as I hacked away the Monsignors head. Once finished decapitating both heretics, I took the heads to the door steps of the church and hung them on the church lamp post. Let the city see that the heretics MUST be purged.
