If we're talking Dr. Strange rather than Harry Potter, does DEX for spontaneous forces, and WIS for conjuration sound appropriate?

sounds reasonable to me

If anyone is interested I'm just starting to get together a Monsterhearts game over on Discord, send me a message if you'd like to join in.

how many side rooms, and do they have doors?

As depicted in the conflict map, there is a side room to either side of the stone door. They do not have doors themselves. It looks like the dhampir came from those rooms. By the glow of the peaches, they appear to be shelves of books... possibly records.

It may be a good idea to add a hyperlink to the top.

Where should I add a hyperlink to the top of what?

where you have Character Sheets, rolling tables, and discontinuity for map

Conflict map, I'm saying

Oh, gotcha.

If everyone is comfortable with the camp setup as it is, we can Camp and begin...

End of Session:
When you are a Villager and reach the end of a session, decide whether any of your bonds has been resolved (completely explored, no longer relevant, proven true or false). Ask the player(s) of the character(s) with whom you have the bond(s) if they agree. For each that does, mark XP and write a new bond with whomever you wish. Then answer these three questions as a group:
• Did we learn something new and important about the world?
• Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
• Did we loot a memorable treasure?
• Did we witness the horrible death of a comrade?
(I may edit these questions to steer the party as we get some lvl-1 characters)
For each “yes,” everyone marks XP.

Now that you have survived a session with your character, consider their motivation. What gets them out of bed in the morning? What keeps them up late at night? Why have they elected to make the hard choices and take risks? This is your Alignment, Drive, or Instinct. It will become an aditional custom question for just your character which will produce an additional XP per session.

Making Camp:
When you settle in to rest, consume a ration. If you’re somewhere dangerous decide the watch order as well. If you have enough XP you may Level Up. When you wake from at least a few uninterrupted hours of sleep heal damage equal to half your max HP.

We will work on rations for now. If your character does not have something to eat in their inventory, they may have to ask around.

Eating is a requirement to level up. Sleeping is a requirement to heal. If no one has to sleep, I only have to roll one possible encounter, and probably nothing happens. (6-8 on 2d6 is nothing for a single hour of camp)

Currently:
Phraanz may take the custom Grapple move.
Gulirk is free to take the Ranger's Animal Companion and Command as one advancement.
Kyrillosr may take the custom move Spirit Arrow.
Krenin may take the Punk's The Ol' Charm.
Muirkhom may take the Cleric's Divine Guidence and Personal Deity, or the Collector's Keeper of Curios, or the Paladin's I Am the Law.
Imazael may take the Thief's Backstab, or the custom move Pushing Pawns

If you'd like to take any other move, speak up and we'll see about justifying it. If you just have an idea of something you'd like to be able to do, I'll look into it, and if I find something close that's pre-made, we'll use that. If it will take some custom writing, maybe we'll set that aside for next EOS.

Remember to +1 one of your base stats and adjust the modifiers. Keep the base stat separate (10+1, not 11) at least in the Google Doc in case you get lost and have to re-roll a stat.

You can't level up twice off one ration.

BONDS
Imazael owes me a kiss. Could still be exploited
Imazael and I have… history. I think this is no longer relevant
I owe Muirkhom so much he owns me. No resolution yet
Kyrillosr cursed mi madre As long as the blue racist mother curser apologizes...we'd be cool

• Did we learn something new and important about the world? Yes, lots
• Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy? Yes Hagred...that bastard
• Did we loot a memorable treasure? for me the bell rope falls under this
• Did we witness the horrible death of a comrade? umm, yes, up close and personal

MOTIVATIONS

repairing the world and the pantheon <wink><wink>

LEVEL

Taking Animal companion and command. Increasing Dex +1

RATIONS

Already have one peach in my stomach from squid butt. Since this is a human veneration room, maybe I can find a twinky or cheese whiz...or maybe some Budweiser

odd, I would have said the reverse, but that's okay

I blame Muirkhom for losing my icon of Ibris! I'm pretty sure this is played out
I trust Phraanz implicitly because he’s kin to me.I'll leave this one to Atlas, whether he thinks this has been done

Did we learn something new and important about the world?

Lots! Did any of it make sense? Not even sorta!
Note, I recognize this is international and it isn't a passive aggressive statement about the game.

Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?

not especially. a desiccated husk and a dhampir with a knife.

Did we loot a memorable treasure?

oooh, I got that chalice thing, (for Kyrill). and I got a Displacer beast (For Gul), and I got a pretty dagger, and Phraanz got a few cool magic things, and Muirkhom got a lot of Gold and I think krenim got something. so... Yes.

Did we witness the horrible death of a comrade?

Umm... Breifly, but they got better. I doubt that counts.

Motivation

Lady Ascendant

Make someone respect you station, title, or personage.

Leveling

Taking Pushing Pawns and upping Dex

Eh, Spirit of the rules and all that. I'll let Bastian be the final arbiter. also the other players, them too

Feel free to explore and resolve your bonds in Gameplay, since you're sitting down for a meal and all.

Re: Witnessing gruesome deaths - Not my place to say one way or another.

Re: Reality being confusing - Y'all rolled three 6-s.

Re: Enemy Notability - The 1d8+1 Gold-touched were built to wipe the party if you weren't careful. The stealth dhampir came within one roll of murdering one of you.

Gulirk: For motivation, how about: "Restore what was left behind." For rations, Gulirk has searched the area, and circumstances have not changed substantially. Someone else might see something. Imazael has two extra rations... The villagers have two more uses of glow-peaches. The original peach was a single, unripe peach and not enough for a ration. Papa might sneak you a loaf from the Gnomish supply if you ask.

Imazael: Lady Ascendant is great.

Muirkhom and I swore an oath together, and now I trust them implicitly.
Gulirk owes me a child.

I think these are unresolved.

Tentative possibility for alignment: Propagating merfolk morality.

I'm taking the arrow move and increasing wisdom by 1. I need to eat but not to sleep for now.

And I think that at least the enemies might be considered notable, considering what the GM pointed out.

Dark Archive

Wait, is everyone back upstairs in the first room, or in a room downstairs?

I have no bonds. I guess I should get some.

Gulirk is a good fighter and a good companion.
Kyrillosr is in great danger. I will try to make sure they survive.
I'm uncomfortably attracted to Imazael. I must settle this one way or another.
Krenin is keeping a secret from me.
Muirkhom is wrong in his ways, and must change.

Yes, I will take the Grapple move: When you get your hands on someone, your next attack against them deals +1d4 damage.
Do using two weapons still give me serpent's strike?

Did we learn something new and important about the world?
Yes. It is on fire. And gold makes zombies.
Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
Yes. Imazael transformed into a cock-blocking robot from a secret government base and we pwnzrd a mob designed to TPK everyone.
Did we loot a memorable treasure?
A -mysterious- gambeson, and a golden hammer. Which is awesome.
Did we witness the horrible death of a comrade?
Goodbye, Alanna.
+4 XP

(For level, twice now I've been asked to roll my highest stat to stave off a personal disaster. So Imma gonna raise Wis +1 instead of Str. Almost as if Phraanz is more than he seems.... dun Dun DUNN!)

Phraanz can have that version of the grapple move if you prefer. It does require the use of hands. Instead, you can have something with a few more options:

When you attempt to overpower someone with raw grit, roll +STR. On a 10+, choose two. On a 7-9, choose one:
• You break their guard; they take +1d4 damage forward.
• You Restrain them so long as you concentrate on the task.
• You retreat somewhere nearby, taking them with you.
• You prevent them from alerting others or hurting you.
• You disarm them. The object in one of their hands falls out of reach.

I feel like the grapple move (either form) better represents what Phraanz has been doing this session. I do think to get good at hitting someone, you do have to have hit someone.

Everyone: I forgot to mention: at level -1 your HP is 1/2 Constitution instead of 1/4.

Oh yeah, Krenin, you may take the Priest's Divine Ward:
When you call upon your deity for protection for yourself or an ally, roll +WIS. On a 10+, grant two of the following effects to the subject of your prayers. On a 7-9, grant one, and your prayers draw unwanted attention.
• Take +2 Armor forward
• Heal 1d8 damage
• Take +1 forward to Defy Danger
• An approaching enemy is driven back

So it would be Divine Ward OR The Ol' Charm.

The gentle manatee you ate for dinner, I suppose.

Well if you insist I flesh out the scenario, I'll be happy to :P

Shortly after the cursing incident, Gul wanted to teach you a lesson. So Gul sneaked to your section of the river at night. Then Gul kidnapped your giant pet otter's small little offspring. I'm not sure what it's name was. Gul just called her veal.

Gullible Male Thug Dwarf Pilgrim | Lvl 0 | XP - 0/7 | HP: 11/12 | Armour - Faith | Damage - 1d4 | STR 1 | DEX 0 | CON 2 | INT 0-1 (Stunned) | WIS 0 | CHA 0

Imazael: I'd say it's played out too. Just need to hand over that piece of wood and we're done.

Bonds:
I’ll protect Phraanz from ‘imself. --- Not even close. I need to get to work on this.
Gulirk tells it how it is, and I respect ‘er for it. --- I'm not really sure where to go with this. May be better to mark it off...or replace it. Probably replace it, since it hasn't really been played out, just need to figure out what with.
Kyrill needs ta learn about power. --- Not really touched on this yet.
I'll learn Em's secret about Phraanz. --- WHAT IS WI' THE TWO'A THEM?! I think I might have fun with this.

Questions
• Did we learn something new and important about the world?
I learned Midas is real now, and that's all I ever needed.

• Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
Does existential instability count as an enemy?
But in all seriousness, turning a displacer beast from something trying to kill you to a pet sounds like overcoming a notable monster to me, and doing a damn good job of it.

• Did we loot a memorable treasure?
Imazael's covered everything I can think of...actually, does LASaROS count? A being that can make peaches and stabilise reality sounds pretty useful.

• Did we witness the horrible death of a comrade?
It was temporary, but we did see Gul die. Try not to make a habit of it.

That's 4 much needed XP.

Motivation: The Hand of Midas
Ensure that gold stays in safe hands, until the creation of the Vessel of Midas.

So, assuming I got all that XP and there's something to eat, I'm bumping my Charisma and taking Keeper of Curios.
And if there's no food...Gul, can ya give me a hand here? It'll count to that debt you insist I can't wave off.

Muirkhom Garathal wrote:

Everyone should have one portion now. Besides, until I can figure out a way to really torture Muirkhom with the bond. I'll keep it as my +1 for you

I was actually thinking of the manatee from here. Was the otter incident something else?

Bonds:

Murikhom is my ideological rival

Phraanz would make an ideal ally, plenty of muscle, few scruples

[open, suggestions wanted]

[open, suggestions wanted]

Questions:

New and Important: How reality fits together, or rather, how it doesn't

Memorable treasure: Definitely LASaROS.

'orrible Death: Technically I saved Gul from that one. Zing! Take that heathens.

Motivation: Thirst for Recognition – Be recognized for your actions. Your friends recognition is nice but not enough of what you're after.

I'll be taking +1 Con (lord knows I need it) and The Ol' Charm, food providing. The religious gigolo route is tempting, but I think that's better explained by the Punks third upbringing choice: Organized Crime – You are owed a favor by someone in high places. Name them. After you call in your favor, they owe you nothing, but you get +1 ongoing to dealing with them socially in the future, as good will is everything in the Family.

No place is higher than heaven, and no swindle is more profitable than religion.

Gullible Male Thug Dwarf Pilgrim | Lvl 0 | XP - 0/7 | HP: 11/12 | Armour - Faith | Damage - 1d4 | STR 1 | DEX 0 | CON 2 | INT 0-1 (Stunned) | WIS 0 | CHA 0

As far as I know the timeline looks like this:

  • Gul makes a delicious meal of the manatee
  • Kyrillosr has numerous objections
  • Gul cares not for these silly objections, food is food
  • Kyrillosr curses Gul's mother
  • Gul kidnaps the offspring of Kyrillosr's giant pet otter in retaliation
  • ?????
  • It's now, and as far as Kyrillosr is concerned, Gul owes him babies due to baby otter theft and manatee eating
That look about right?

Yes, I was adding meat to the bare bones of Kyrillosr bond with Gul. Mostly for fun...It's your bond though and can make up anything you want as to how it got there.

Edit: I ate the otter baby too in my version. I was just giving the child back to Kyrillosr (As Kyrillosr requested).

Now Gul's waiting for the Mother cursing apology.

Weaver | Lvl 0 | XP 4 | HP: 6/7 | Armour 0 | Damage 1d6 | STR -1 | DEX +1 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS +1 | CHA 0

After Kyrillosr buries the otter baby, maybe the two can talk about an apology. But he still probably bears a grudge over the manatee and the rest of the otter.

Sounds like it will be an interesting and highly entertaining conversation :)

With at least 3 out of 5 votes of yae for each question, you're each earning 4 XP this EOS. I'll update the sheets accordingly.

Feel free to continue ruminating over bonds. I'm trying to find the perfect curse for that gambeson...

Also, Gulirk, did you intentionally avoid rolling to Parley with Papa? You'll get some food either way, I only need to know how big a favor he'll ask in return. Generally speaking, I try to treat choosing not to roll like "taking 7" on a roll.

I was taking a 7

Female Dhampir woodcutter | Lvl -2 | XP: 4 | HP: ? | A 0 | 1d? | STR 0 | DEX +0| CON -1 | INT 0 | WIS 0 | CHA +1

Did I get XP off either of those 6-'s?

Forgot to give xp for the lore. Forgot to resolve pushing pawns.

Gul, you'll gain 1 xp if you leave Imazael's bond with you unresolved somehow.

Adding 2 xp for Imazael now.

Female Dhampir woodcutter | Lvl -2 | XP: 4 | HP: ? | A 0 | 1d? | STR 0 | DEX +0| CON -1 | INT 0 | WIS 0 | CHA +1

In that case, can I consume a second ration, and level to 0

Kyrillosr ran off with the last of your bread, and the peaches are gone. You might get buddy-buddy with Gul's mushroom friend if Gul decides to take on her tutelage. She's got some perfectly edible mushrooms.

But yeah, you can level more than once if you eat more than once.

Backstab still okay?

I'm getting a bit confused now. I thought resolving a bond gave xp. I had two with Emma and thought it would be good to rid one and keep the other. So, you want me to keep both bonds for 1 xp?

Imazael,

If you want me to flesh out your bond (Learn secret of guls origin) I have an epic one and would feed into the current convo we are having. But it's entirely up to you. let me know.

At the start of camp, the party had 6 bread, 5 peaches, and Imazael's 3 bread.
Villagers consumed 9 rations, eating all their bread, and 3 portions of peaches.

This left 2 peaches, 3 bread.
Imazael - bread
Kyrillosr - bread
Muirkhom - ???
Krenin - ???
Phraanz - Peaches
Gulirk - Mushrooms

So Krenin and Muirkhom will need to eat either a peach or bread each. Krenin's likely to eat the divine bounty, while Muirkhom still owes you a locket. I don't think anyone wants one character to level twice at the expense of someone else.

CucumberTree wrote:

I'm offering 1 XP if you hinder the resolution of her bond with you. Nothing to do with your bond with her. The move she failed would have offered you 1 XP to help resolve her bond (win win) She failed, so I turned her move around on her.

I think, moving forward, I'll be more discrete about how I'm resolving rolls...

OK, I get it now.

I won't resolve the bond then. I'll post something later tonight
