GM Tribute |
Will move things along without everyone. Also will recap.
Hired by Lavinia, the group used Garnstn's connections to hire a smaller sailing ship to get to Blue Nixie. Waiting until moonlight, the lighting conditions proved to be a burden as they approached the Blue Nixie, and found the full crew preparing to get under way. A grappling hook was secured, but only Garnstn and Kat climbed almost completely across the 20' span. As the sentry hid in the shadows, two volleys of missile weapons had yet to connect with him. Garnstn began to climb the rest of the way, and his adept climbing put him on the deck as volley of crossbows tried to seek him in the dim light.
thugscrossbow+1: 5d20 ⇒ (2, 7, 1, 12, 18) = 40
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Gurnst attempts to dodge a volley of crossbows, and four fly all around him, but a single bolt finds his right thigh (4piercing). Two thugs rush to engage him with rapiers and bucklers. One rushing from the top of each of the two stairways.
A rough voice shouts: "Repel boarders!!" One of the thugs engaging Garnst shouts: "Varst, come quickly!!"

With his arcane armor in place, Mahath joins the others, climbing up last. He moves more slowly and deliberately than the others, unsure of his strength in the task. He looks back at the longboat, hoping it is still there when they are ready to leave.
Take 10 to climb.
Garnstn White-Eye |
S#*&e, this looks bloody, but I didn't want it to by my blood...
Garnstn shifts to get out from between the two thugs, and attacks the one next to him with both blades.

Mahath climbs a third of the way across. The cleric follows in scale male, getting partly across too.
Garnstn shifts and misses, unable to attack with either of his blows. Kat climbs to take the spot on the deck Garnstn has left open, carefully moving to get firmly on the deck and grab a weapon.
Kat climb 1/4: 1d20 ⇒ 16
With Garnstn and Kat on deck, three of the crew rush to contain the incursion on the ship with rapiers drawn. Three slice at Kat, and one hits (4 piercing). Two slice at Garnstn, and one misses his eye by an inch (5 piercing). Two thugs crowd the railing to get a difficult shot off at the climbing heroes. The chose to fire crossbows at the ranger, and one hits him through cover, a bolt hitting him in the thigh (7damage).
A figure moves to the shadows of the top deck, and announces in a gruff voice. "Surrender now and avoid a painful death. You are trespassing on the Blue Nixie!!"
Slip anchors the smaller ship, so the pull on the rope now abates Rope climb DC down to 5

Kat is on the ship and I rolled a climb check for her as no taking 10 in dangerous situations such as being fired at--the others are awaiting space to get on deck. I added her token to the map. Rope is 20' -- each climb check gets you 1/4 movement speed unless you fast climbed (at -5) for half your movement speed. If Kat can get some space, one person can get on the deck. You can take two climb checks per turn--as you can do a double move in place of a move standard.
GM Tribute |
Kat delays, overwhelmed by the attackers. The opportunity to sidestep to let others climb over lost.
Five thugs attack Kat and one Garnstn. A single rapier strike hits Kat in the neck piercing crit: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 4) + 2 = 11
Kat falls down leaving a spot on deck free in the middle of the press of thugs.

Kat has 18 hp and has lost 11 she should be fine?
Ok it took some understanding but finally I got it. One thing Kat is now two rounds on top of the deck but had no chance to do anything. She would have raged and starting hurt people. It might not make a major diffrence, but I am pretty sure Kat would have gone backtoback with garnsten, I apologize if I missed the first info that I am on deck. Another question, is this area well lit?
Garnstn White-Eye |
Not sure if Garnstn got skipped once in there, RL has been keeping me away a bit.
Blood clouding his vision, Garnstn stabs at the enemy to his right, hoping to clear a spot for allies to come aboard.

Lanterns on the ship make this area well lit with some shadows in the stairwels.

Four thugs and attack and two thugs hit Kat 11 piercing and one attacks and hits Garnstn 2 piercing
The thug leader appears out of the shadows brandishing a rapier. "You are outmanned. Surrender and be spared!!"

He sees Kat fall and knows there is little he can do but fight on. He hears Garn's advice but holds his position to fight who is in front of him.

I think if I move south I'll take too many AoO's! I would be moving through two threatening squares, if not then I'll do it. Let me know DM.
Malstei Alenuath |
5' steps don't provoke an attack of opportunity but would provide flank.
The way I am seeing the map it looks as if we are cut off from one another with many thugs between us, I am happy to 5' step south if you think it will help but I was hoping for more bodies up on deck...
Garnstn White-Eye |
Yes, 5' step south gives a rogue a flank and doesn't delay people arriving. Assuming that happens...
Garnstn takes advantage of the flank the ranger provides to get the edge on the sailor between them.

There is some respite as Garnstn cuts a thug twice, dropping him to the deck in bleeding mess. The ranger slices one thug, and he withdraws, leaping into the water streaming blood. "Coward!!" Vrask shouts and leads a counterattack.
The leader step up and cuts at Mal piercing 5hp, and the crossbow injury earlier coupled with a rapier slash leaves him unconscious. 12 piercing total
Two thugs stab at Garnstn and miss. Vrask gives a cutting motion to the fallen barbarian. The other thugs close on Kat and one brutally stabs her on the deck, making sure she does not rise soon.
Dain makes it up to the top of the rope to see two down and a press of thugs at the rail. The mage is close behind. A single female joins the fray, as dirty and mean as the rest of the men. In fact, she was the one that cut at the fallen barbarian.

Swinging to the deck on a trim line is the shadowy figure, now seen to be wearing a gleaming set of breastplate and holding a bastard sword in one hand. As his feet alights on the deck, he makes a quick bow.
This is the leader of the Jade Ravens. "Well, we figured we might be of some use. Unless you boyos have things in hand?"
Two more of the Jade Ravens climb onto the ship from the far side, and Soller Vark looks at the handsome man before him with a mixture of awe and fear.
The two previously injured thugs jump from the boat into the water with a loud splash after tossing their packs.
GM Tribute |
Vrask and Tolin exchange glares as a dwarf, half-elf, and another human climb on the rear deck.
Tolin explains: "Lavinia hired this group to handle you, Vrask. So I thought I would come and watch and see how things developed. And, I have not been asked to intervene. Maybe they want to try and finish you off by themselves? The Jade Ravens may no longer be needed anymore? A mercenary company that poached jobs from other mercenary companies could get a bad reputation."
Tolin looks at you.
"Now, a mercenary company that was asked to help someone in over their heads, that would be a different story."
