Appearance

Just a quickie - I've noticed (unless I'm doing things wrong) that I still have an Edge to choose from, due to my Heritage as Half-Elf.

I want to grab Nerves of Steel, but it states it requires WC, which I'm assuming means Wild Card.

Soooooo, do I qualify for that? I'm good in every other respect. It's a nice Edge to represent El's ability to take a beating. :)

Edit: Looking on it, no I don't. :p

I used my two minor advances to add two skill points, and have one edge from my major hindrance, although for some reason I've given myself two major hindrances (Vow and Overconfident I think was the other), and I'm not so sure I'm allowed to do that.

Anyway, the WC question on Nerves of Steel still remains though. :)

Every PC and major NPC is a Wild Card, that essentially means you roll a Wild Die with every Trait roll and have can take 3 wounds instead of just the one, which is the case for most mooks.

Appearance

Ah okay, thanks for the explanation. I guess that means I qualify then.

Well, whenever I'm awarded enough exp for another Edge, that's first on my list.

Are you letting us know when we go up a rank, as in from Novice up to Legendary etc?

Yep, I will let you know every time you qualify for an advance. After four advances (20xp), you move from Novice to Seasoned.

Appearance

Sounds good to me!

Any news on that card yet? I don't know how vital it is to have a "save my butt" card to give El some kind of benefit or perk.

Appearance

Just a quickie:

1. Can we fight enemies while sharing a space?

2. Is there a way to step out of opponents range without AoO's or do they not exist in this?

3. Can you charge and how does it work?

4. Can you move through opponents spaces?

P.s. These game mechanics are awesome. It feels really fun already. :)

1: Technically, you shouldn't be sharing a space. I only said that because I did not want to have to edit the map.

2: Leaving melee combat provokes a free attack from every enemy you are fighting at the time.

3: There are no rules for charging, but I'll say that if you move your full Pace in a straight line and attack, you can have +2 on the Fighting roll.

4: You can move through friendlies, but not hostiles.

Appearance

Ah, so not even an Agility check could get me safely past Yargin?

Not posted my actions yet as Kimiko goes before me unless I now take priority due to Kimiko being shaken?

Female Nagaji Samurai, Pace: 6 Parry: 8 (1) Toughness: 10 (4) Charisma: 0 (-2), Wounds 3/3, Bennies 5/3

My turn was open the trapdoor go down ladder, then get hit by acid. So I don't act now until next turn, hopefully passing my spirit check. I don't want to be shaken too long in this situation.

Appearance

Thanks! Taken my go now. I think it's all legal in this turn. :-)

You could make an Agility check to try, but failure would probably result in you falling into the shark infested waters of the Jeggare River. :p

Appearance

Ah, shark infested huh? If El was evil I think he'd Chuck this guy into the river. I don't think he's trying to kill though. Wants to bring Lamm in for trial I think.

Appearance

Hoe does non lethal damage work btw? Is there a penalty or bonus in trying to knock out rather than kill?

In the rules as written, you roll your Fighting with a penalty. I personally think that sucks, so if you declare non-lethal intent, you deal non-lethal damage. Obviously it depends on what you're using. If you're punching then no problem, if you're using a sword then hit him with the hilt or something, I don't hold with this 'flat of the blade' nonsense. :p

Appearance

Haha, yea I doubt everyone would do it that way! I think I'm going yo become a free hand fighter. Count a fist and sword as my weapons later, haha. Really liking this system.

Appearance

I think I'll spend a Bennie when I get in. May be hard to beat and I was saving them for soaking damage, but I don't quite yet want to learn the drowning mechanics. I'd like to try and get behind Yargin, out of the crocs way and to a safer place, but I'm in a pretty tight situation right now! Opponents either side of me. Both deadly!

Yeah, I didn't expect you to split the party this early in the game, but at least doing so in Savage Worlds is not so suicidal as it would have been in Pathfinder. :p

Appearance

Really? It feels worse! XD

I have Lamm targeting me, a shaken Yargin in front of me, and a Crocodile to my left. I think the heat is officially on, and with only 1 Bennie left, it's feeling pretty tense right now!

It's also hard for Kimiko to offer support with the 5 foot wide platform. She'd have to venture around the other side across two rounds or so, to be able to offer much aid.

With the Crocodile half in the water and half out to attack me, would his head not technically be in my square?

If so....we'll see what happens next round! ;)

Female Nagaji Samurai, Pace: 6 Parry: 8 (1) Toughness: 10 (4) Charisma: 0 (-2), Wounds 3/3, Bennies 5/3

And an armed to the teeth samurai behind you helping..?

Appearance

Check the edit! :)

I was factoring in that you were shaken and that your positioning is unfavourable to our survival in this cramped room, ha!

Appearance

Just noticed Initiative changes every round. That sucks for me! Time to swallow another bite from the Croc once more, being fairly low down again!

Kimiko, our survival rests on your spirit roll. :p

Female Nagaji Samurai, Pace: 6 Parry: 8 (1) Toughness: 10 (4) Charisma: 0 (-2), Wounds 3/3, Bennies 5/3

natural armor +2, Chain hauberk +2, Base toughness 6. Which is why I have it labelled as 10 (4). So AP 2, down to 8, hits me with a 15. Shaken and one wound.

Man I'm unlucky in that round, almost nothing but ones from me. Then 3 explosions against me. Elegad at least knock Yargin one for size so we don't have to content with two people at once.

Appearance

Haha, I'm planning on it. Gaedren however is going to be in a lot of trouble when I get to him. I'm pretty angry now I've discovered he fed kids to his croc. Expect no mercy!

Yargin I'll just knock out though. Not really sure what his deal is. When it's my go, I'll post. I think Mirian's up next but doesn't post as frequently as you and I Kimiko.

Also, nice moves on Gobblegut!

You saved my ass!

Female Nagaji Samurai, Pace: 6 Parry: 8 (1) Toughness: 10 (4) Charisma: 0 (-2), Wounds 3/3, Bennies 5/3

I doubt Mirian's turn will affect us down in the hold so you can likely take it now as you go before Yargin. Lamm has already acted by shooting me in the face. I might have had cover but pfff he such a high to hit roll.

Appearance

In that case I'll post shortly. I'm on a course at the minute, but lunch is soon. :-)

Ah, didn't see natural armour on character sheet, that's only one wound and shaken off the crossbolt then, my mistake.

Appearance

I failed you Kimiko!

I thought for sure I had him with those rolls. :p

Guess I'll just have to hope I hit harder next round!

I must apologise, I read that post in a rush during my lunch and 10 damage should have resulted in a wound. Elegad, please have a benny as a token of my regret. Yargin now has 2 wounds and is still still shaken.

Appearance

That's ok!

I'm new to the game so you could have taken advantage of that, but I wouldn't have minded if you gave me nothing for it. We all make mistakes, but....thanks for the Bennie! :)

Appearance

Do I still need to do an opposed grapple, even though I'm pretty sure he failed to grab me, or can I just attack Yargin, and hope I deal with the rest before Kimiko possibly goes down?

Lots of roleplay to be had between El and Lamm....if Lamm survives. :p

Ordinarily, you'd have to roll, but as he failed so totally, I won't require it this time.

Appearance

Okay cool.

I think next level or at least next time I can grab an Edge, I'll grab the one that lets me attack with both of my hands as that would really help!

Appearance

I've also never had a character swear so much, or even swear before, but it fits his personality of an angsty punk teenager!

Appearance

Haha, I did roll particularly bad that time.

If I wanted to attack with both of my hands, would I need an edge or could I do it with some kind of multi-attack penalty?

With four limbs, I'm thinking it'd be broken to get that many moves off in one round, but wanted to ask for future reference.

On the plus side, the more I ask, the less questions you'll be faced with. :p

Female Nagaji Samurai, Pace: 6 Parry: 8 (1) Toughness: 10 (4) Charisma: 0 (-2), Wounds 3/3, Bennies 5/3

Multi attack breakdown, must be with two weapons or two hands (in your case):

-2 to all attacks for multi action.
-2 on off hand.

You can remove the -2 from offhand with ambidextrous edge.
You can remove the multi action penalty for two weapon fighting with two fisted edge.

At the moment its -2, -4. Getting two fisted makes it. 0, -2 and with ambidextrous no penalty at all.

Appearance

Thanks for the breakdown!

I'm aiming to do that, along with going the Brawler and Bruiser routine, as well as continuing with the Martial Artist route but flavouring it more as a Street Fighter.

Firstly though, I want to get my Smarts up, so I can breathe Cigarette smoke into my enemies faces, or stomp on toes to give myself a combat advantage by performing tricks. :D

Check out the attack and damage I just pulled off from my first attack though! Crazy...

Oooh, cinematic! :o

Finally got around to sorting Elegad's Adventure Card...

Lucky Break: Play to negate ALL damage from any one attack.

Appearance

Not bad! Suits his pathfinder concept of damage reduction. :-P

Thanks!

I think that's a pass but I don't know what determines one, so I'll just go with it. :)

On a standard trait roll, 0-3 is a failure, 4-7 is a success and 8 or higher is a success with a raise.

Appearance

Thank you. :p

I'll keep it how I roleplayed it, just to stay in character though. :)

Oh, also, have a look at the models myself and my gf made out of Super Sculpey Firm for the Rise of the Runelord's AE campaign I run:

Brik Wahl

Brik Wahl 2

Brik Wahl 3

While my gf made Tristan, which I'll take a few more pics of, to show her finished version

I figured I'd share them. :)

Both were shaped by hand, detailed with the point of a pin, painted in Acrylic and drawn on in fine liner/painted on with the point of a pin for the fine details.

Appearance

Looks like my post got eaten. I'll type it up again when I get a chance in a few hours. :)

Appearance

I'm going to save my advance so I can either get an Edge or stat increase on the next one. :)

Female Nagaji Samurai, Pace: 6 Parry: 8 (1) Toughness: 10 (4) Charisma: 0 (-2), Wounds 3/3, Bennies 5/3

I don't understand what you mean by that..?

An Advance lets a character do one of the following:

• Gain a new Edge.
• Increase a skill that is equal to or greater than its linked
attribute by one die type.
• Increase two skills that are lower than their linked
attributes by one die type each.
• Buy a new skill at d4.
• Increase one attribute by a die type. (Can only choose this once per rank.)

What's preventing you getting an edge or stat increase with this advance? Are you confusing 2 character points at character creation with an advance?

Appearance

That must be it. Don't forget, I am still a noob with this system, but in the Test Drive PDF it said this:

Quote:

3) Edges & Hindrances

Your character gains an “advance” for each Minor Hindrance
she takes (up to two), and two advances for taking a single Major
Hindrance. You’ll find a summary of core Edges & Hindrances
at the end of this document, and more can be found in your
setting book.
For 2 advances you can either:
• Gain another attribute point.
• Choose an Edge.
For 1 advance you can either:
• Gain another skill point.
• Increase starting funds by 100%

So I guess I can choose something. :)

Female Nagaji Samurai, Pace: 6 Parry: 8 (1) Toughness: 10 (4) Charisma: 0 (-2), Wounds 3/3, Bennies 5/3

I get your a newbie don't worry, I was just confused where you getting the idea from, but yes those "advance points" are only for character creation and not levelling up. The thing I quoted is from the experience points page.

I can see where the confusion is though as the test drive calls those 'advance' points whereas the actual book just calls those "points" to not confuse them with the advancement system presented later.

Appearance

Yea, that's okay!

I don't have the book and there are a lot of Edge's that I can't find explanations to (such as Iron Jaw, Take the Hit and Knight) and as a +1 to Toughness isn't available until Legendary status now, rather than giving myself a bonus to Spirit, I'll grab this:

Nerves of Steel - Ignore 1 point of Wound Penalties.

It was a toss up between Spirit (up from d4 to d6), Two-Fisted, First Strike and Nerves of Steel.

His Spirits are still low after completing his only objective as he doesn't know what to do with himself currently. He hasn't yet trained himself enough to be able to gain a first strike, and he can clumsily through anger and not through training, punch with both of his hands, so until his lifestyle and status improves, that was also out.

He can take damage though and with a lot more confidence in himself taking out Lamm, Nerves of Steel felt right for him, even if it's not the most beneficial to the party.

I'm using the story to build his character, rather than optimising or choosing what I think would be best overall with every advance. :)

Each to their own.

Anyway, you can get the explorers edition of the Savage Worlds Deluxe book for less than a tenner on the gameslore website, I would recommend it for roleplaying in general, not just this game. :D

Appearance

Haha, well yea, I'm breaking tradition here. I usually optimise as best I can, focusing in one specific area solely, but with the many things I want to do with him, this won't be the case.

If he can find armour from fallen foes that would fit him, or weapons he likes the look of, he'll probably start using them, but currently he's had no such luck, only just joining the party, and until he's had something to eat, is pretty much out of energy.

As for the Savage World's Deluxe Book, thanks for the tip!

This plays pretty similarly to Dark Heresy, so I've found it so far, fairly easy to play. Not sure where I got the idea of blowing smoke into someone's face would be smarts -2 though. Pretty sure you can just do it.

I second the "buying the book" advice. Savage Worlds is a great system. My favorite by far.

Oh, a advance! Need to figure out what to take. Eventually I'll take Two fisted but I don't feel that one fight justifies a whole edge.
