Khorvax advances forwards and looks in the barrel. Among the odds and ends, he finds a battery. (the basic kind with 20 charges)

Altronus moves north among the crates and barrels and looks in a crate. Among the odds and ends, he finds another battery.

Huckle Jim, Senko, and Iseph carefully advance.

Navasi skirts the crate to the south and heads towards the forklift. But when she gets close, she sees the creature's fronds sticking out between crates up on the scaffold! Unfortunately, the creature rears up and makes a deep burbling sound. Clearly it has also seen Navasi!

I'll be rolling initiative in a moment.

The Commencement Table 1 Slides | Pre-Race Rules | Laboni's racer

Now that you can see the creature you have the chance to identify which of the many subspecies it is.

Life Science DC 13 (automatic for Senko):
You've seen pictures, and yep, that's definitely a feather stalker. You recall that Feather Stalkers are Aberrations, are expert climbers, have a 5-foot reach, and can hurl feathery fronds like javelins.

Life Science DC 18:
This one is an Isaran Red Feather Stalker. They come from a hot desert environment and have a small amount of fire resistance.

Life Science DC 23:
The silvery tips at the ends of the fronds indicate that this is a rare mutation. These mutant Feather Stalkers have the ability to project a field of psychic force to protect themselves, which functions much like the reflecting armor spell. They can only do this twice a day.

Senko: Since you have consulted files on these creatures this counts as having a downloaded dataset which you can consult by taking 20. You can still roll Life Science normally as a free action. However, since you have already read through the files (at least a little), I'll allow you to find the next piece of data you didn't get on your roll by spending a full-round action reading. So if you roll a 14, you can spend a round reading to bump that to 19, and another round to bump that to 24.

Block 2: Feather Stalker

About Initiative: Guys, I'm going to run initiative in blocks. If you are within a block that gets to go next, then actions are resolved in the order they are posted (unless you specify that you want to wait until after character X). If someone with a lower initiative than you posts first I just assume your character has delayed until after their character has gone. This is because of how PbP posting works and prevents you from having to wait for other characters to post or getting to act on foreknowledge of what the next character will do before he does it.

If anyone has a problem with doing it this way, please send me a PM.

Unaware of what the creature is or what it can do, Navasi says, "Now that we know where it is, you all know what to do! Get it!"

Move action = Get 'Em - All allies gain +1 morale bonus to attacks until the beginning of Navasi's next round.

Navasi: since this ability ends at the start of your next action, you should probably delay until everyone else gets a chance to act.

The feather stalker rears up and its fronds quiver in the air. Suddenly, the stalker looks slightly blurry as if it is now covered in a thin layer of glass.

Senko quickly examines the feather stalker and attempts to determine the subspecies, as well as identify the blurry glass barrier.

Life Science: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Mysticism: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

He then relays his findings to the party, using speech instead of telepathy because of range considerations. "This subspecies of feather stalker resists a bit of fire, and it can cast reflecting armor twice per day. Oh, and it just cast the spell." Everyone can read all three Life Science spoilers and the Mysticism spoiler

Senko moves forward, behind one of the crates for cover, attempts to assess the feather stalker Sense Motive trick attack, then takes a shot with his pistol. He's wary of the retributive barrier surrounding the creature, but he'd rather trigger it and let the heavy-hitters attack freely.

Iseph: 6 damage. Make a Reflex Save DC 11; success means 3 damage instead.

Iseph:
It looks like you are using character data that dates from before the FAQ. You don't actually get a +4 to stealth rolls to make a trick attack. You also should really make the trick attack rolls first.

Khorvax flings a bolt of mental energy at the creature, though it seems to resist some of the damage.

Yes, that's correct. In fact, for mapping simplicity we'll say that the space underneath the scaffold is packed with containers and cannot be entered. Climbing the scaffold is relatively easy, DC 10.

Altronus and Navasi maneuver for position, while Huckle Jim takes a shot. The creature squeals like a teakettle, and Huckle Jim thinks his shot found it's mark.

Navasi: you moved a total of 30', but 10' of that was a climb up the scaffold, and a successful climb check allows you to climb at half your speed. "Either way we should look around. As for 'momma' here, do we think there is anything useful that could be harvested from the body? Maybe some Society scientist might be interested in examining the thing."

Senko answers, already having the creature's encyclopedia entry open on his commlink. "While the fronds are not actually feathers, the females of the species do lay eggs by rupturing their fronds. But unless there are both male and female feather stalkers here, we don't need to worry about any larvae hatching." Looking this up on Wikipedia.

"As for harvesting things from the creature, we should be careful not to damage it further. Earlier I found a restaurant willing to pay 100 credits for a 'fresh and relatively intact' carcass." Senko double-checks the encyclopedia entry for anything about valuable body parts.

Peet, did my 26 Life Science earlier reveal anything about valuable things to harvest from the creature?

While the rest of the group finishes sweeping the warehouse, Altronus takes a moment to manage the wounds taken at the hands of "Kevin".

While the others rest, Huckle Jim (and anyone else that cares to) look around in the warehouse. Most of the containers hold junk, but they find a flare, a flashlight, and another medpatch. The group finds no Feather Stalker eggs or sign of any young.

Not really... it is as valuable as any other animal carcass, but there are no particularly special properties of organs, bodily fluids, or anything like that. An animal carcass can be used to craft certain things out of leather and bone and so on, but I don't think SFS allows item crafting.

FYI I have no problem with you guys taking fronds from the Stalker as "trophies" provided it is understood that they have no cash value or mechanical use.

Senko calls up Happy Dragon Tian Kitchen about the reward. He goes back outside to meet Lo, the driver of a small van which pulls up about 20 minutes later. The Stewards bring down the force field and Lo, with the group's help, loads the creature into the back of the van.

"Iomedae's silver britches, look at that thing," one of the Stewards gasps when he sees the Feather Stalker. "Imagine having that thing pop out of your toilet!"

Lo hands Senko a stack of gift cards redeemable at Happy Dragon Tian Kitchen for food and drink items, worth a total of 100 credits.

As an SFS GM I am not allowed to add extra treasure to the module, but I can hand out free lunch. :)

Navasi calls up Zigvigix to report.

"Excellent news!" Zigvigix chirps over the comm. "I'll notify my people that they can begin clearing out the warehouse."

"But don't forget to pick up my present for Historia-7! I understand the lines are already getting long at local stores."

Senko looks annoyedly at the gift cards which are clearly not a credstick. Shrugging, he says "Well, at least we can grab some takeout before going to wait in line for the album."

Senko would like to take a frond from the feather stalker, but not to keep as a trophy for himself. He'd like to fashion it into a stylus for a datapad, to give to Zigvigix as a memento of the Exo-Guardians establishing a headquarters on the station.

"Anyway, shall we be off to the store to wait in line?"

Altronus patiently waits in the lines full of star-struck preteens in order to obtain the newest in pop-culture consumable media. He remarks dryly with whatever team member is unfortunate enough to be next to him:

"You would think, as a society, we would have developed a method to digitalize albums such as these. Perhaps even sending them from the infosphere directly to an individual comm-unit. These types of technologies really should be in our reach by this point based upon Moore's law which states..."

Senko does not consider himself unlucky at all to engage Altronus while waiting in line.

"Most songs, including all of Strawberry Machine Cake's previous songs, are released digitally. This song is the band's first physical release, as a special collectors' item to build up hype for their upcoming concert."

Khorvax is wondering is there any option to stand in front of the queue by stealth. If he finds one, he'll use it right away.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

The Commencement Table 1 Slides | Pre-Race Rules | Laboni's racer

The new Starfinders arrive at a local shop nearby in the Downlow district, only to see that a long lineup, mostly made up of young teenagers, which goes all the way around the block and then some.

Khorvax gets a look at the front of the line. Several security men stand there keeping order in the lineup, though they do not have uniforms; merely plastic badges hanging from lanyards around their necks.

Since Khorvax would have to pass directly in front of people, with no cover, he can't see a way that stealth would help here, unless everyone's attention were directed somewhere else... possibly from some kind of distraction.

If anyone wants to stage some kind of distraction for Khorvax, tell me what you want to do. A bluff check would probably be required but some ideas might use other skills.

Otherwise I'll just resolve this as everyone waiting in line normally.
