" ..maybe this sounds strange coming from me. But are we sure these guys are hostile?"
Rocket takes a few step forward his artillery laser at the ready. Bravely using the cover the trees provide
Unless Arratoi mentions something about being resistant/immune to fire damage..in which case I might rethink using a laser weapon
I was going to make it a readied attack but I'll assume they are hostile after we started firing at them. I'll target yellow like the others
To hit EAC Yellow: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 1 = 16 +1 Get 'em, Within 60 ft, larger then large..so no cover?
Fire damage if hit: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
| GM Skeemo |
Correct, the beasts are Huge, so they do not receive cover from the tree (but you all do). @I-5: We can assume you began the encounter armed, having heard the sound from afar.
Arratoi doesn't know much about these inhabitants of the unknown planet, but he recognizes that they are animals and likely large enough to have natural reach. Gunnz and Arratoi both land crackling shots on the near beast, but Rocket's shot merely lights a branch on fire.

Just checking. The huge creatures were 'lunging' towards the humanoids. Does that mean they appeared to be moving towards the humanoids in a hostile manner? Although the yellow one will probably now turn around and lunge towards us...

Yes, the creatures are visibly behaving aggressively.

The creature quivers momentarily from the psychic assault, but shakes off most of the effect, turning toward Delea in some kind of haze. It barges through the woods toward her and swipes at the lashunta with its claw, knocking her flat.
Seeing Delea go down, I-5 springs into action, approaching behind her and taking a shot at the beast to try and draw its aggression.

The beast moans as Ba'hob strikes it with his pistol. He doesn't know much more than Arratoi does as far as special abilities are concerned.
The second beast rumbles through the forest toward the various creatures that harmed it, towering over Rocket and Gunnz as it pushes past the branches, snow sliding down its matted fur. One of the two humanoids jogs forward, retrieving something from its satchel. It tosses a crumpled plant—not unlike the one from the research station—into the path before it. Meanwhile, the second runs forward and fires an arrow at the cloesr animal, pegging the creature with a shot that didn't have quite enough oomph to break its skin.

| GM Skeemo |
EDIT: I-5 actually couldn't both stand and attack this way, to my knowledge, but Gunnz's and Rocket's attacks brought the creature's HP low enough that it would just run away at this point anyway, so I'm calling it.
Rocket and Gunnz both peg the creature from afar, causing it to moan and begin hobbling into the woods, but I-5 then leaps from the snowbank and gashes its haunch. It tips over into the nearby trees, then slides down into a bloody, furry, snowy mess.
Combat over!
As the threat passes, the two humanoids strap their bows over their shoulders and pass their spears to their upper sets of arms. They contort their spines to lower their middle limbs toward the earth, reshaping their postures into centaur-like quadrupeds instead of tall, four-armed bipeds. They stare at you for a moment, just as a small group of similar humanoids emerges from the hills behind them. They join with the larger group as a taller one with leathery skin creased with wrinkles moves to the fore, facing your party.
Arratoi
|
Arratoi flips on his Tetrad Certified Translator and says, "What's up!!! You guys must be izalguuns!! We come in peace and would like to open a dialogue with you! Now if you'll please speak with us for 10 minutes, this lil device here will begin to translate our languages. Hmm.. unless anyone can share language?"
Arratoi directs that question towards his teammates.
Knowing that the izalguuns don't understand what Arratoi is saying, Arratoi tries to get as much of his message across as possible with friendly tones and gestures - at the very least to try and convey that we're not hostile and would like to communicate further.
If someone does have the ability to share languages, Arratoi will try to gesture and get the message across that the teammate would like to touch one of the izalguun (to complete the spell) but it is not a hostile act.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Arratoi

Arratoi looks up at the izalguun, then down at his translator which is turned on and recording away with various lights and dials indicating its progress in recording and translating the language. Arratoi looks up again at the izalguun. Then down again at his translator. Arratoi sighs and says quietly, "I'm sure you'll come in useful some day, little translator....<sigh>"
Arratoi addresses the lead izalguun, "Hi there!! We've met those scientists but no, we do not work with them. We represent a different organization called the Starfinder Society. We're interested in meeting you and cultural exchange. My name is Arratoi and if you don't mind my asking, what is your name?
"Also, my friend Delea here is an excellent healer. As she has stated, she would gladly be of service if you like!"
If anyone hasn't already done so, Arratoi will ask his teammates to holster or otherwise put away their weapons.
| GM Skeemo |
The injured izalguun looks down at its wounds, then at Delea, then over to its leader. The tall izalguun pauses, then nods. The injured hunter approaches Delea, the beast's scratch marks stretching along its left mid limb. Even in its quadruped posture, it stands head and shoulders above the slight lashunta.
The lead izalguun replies to Arratoi, her speech precise and measured in comparison to the eager ysoki. "My name is Naarma." Upon hearing the name "Starfinder Society," she tilts her head, then looks back to her hunters. One of them nods upward. Naarma turns back to Arratoi. "Did you fight in the starship skirmish?"
Delea
|
Delea slowly reaches up to touch the injured izalguun, putting her hand on the injured limb but not the injured part. She is doing her best to be gentle and non-threatening. She closes her eyes and prays for a moment, and a wave of warm healing goes through the injured limb.
