Round 1b

Durik slipped away from the fog enshrouded goblinoid and fired his bow at the king clinging to the roof. The arrow missed his target by a wide margin, shattering against the wooden walls of the complex instead.

Feldspar called upon Torag to help him defeat this evil blight on the world. With a vigor born of hatred and devotion to his god, he swung his weapon with great might. Any normal foe would have been destroyed by such an attack, but the goblin king deflected the blow with his armour, laughing dismissivley at the paladin as he did so. The hammer cracked into the solid beam of the door fram instead, shaking it but not really causing any damage.

Tania realised her companions would need all the support she could give them. With a great shout of encouragement, she called upon her inner magics to bolster her friends and hopefully carry the day in this fight.

The fog that roiled in the kings chambers and its hallway muffled nearly all the sound from there. However, goblin voices were definitely shouting and moving around in there as well.

Ok Round 2 is up. Group 1 to act. Jo'no, Idrian, Mikka.

Jo'no conjures forth a cloud of glittering dust in front of the goblin chief.

Glitterdust on the square the chief, his mount and the goblin below are all in (and behind it). DC 16 Will Save or be blinded (can try to save again each round if blinded).

Round 2a

Idrian takes aim and fires through the melee, striking the armoured goblin in the chest. The arrow sunk through muscle, eliciting a scream of agony from the creature but not felling it. With his chief so close, the goblin held its ground, but it was all but dead on its feet.

Jo,No conjured forth a cloud of glittering dust and swirling motes of flashing light. The effect flashed into being before the goblin, and surrounded the cretures he was with.

The king and the goblin yelled in a slight panic as their sight was snatched from them by the effect, the retinas of their light sensitive eyes being momentarily overwhelmed by magic. The gekko seemed unpurturbed by the whole thing however.

Mikka summoned forth her own magics as well, bursting a cloud of hail and wind into the face of the king and pummellling him with nature's wrath. The king growled in anger, slashing around himself with his weapon and urging his men to continue the attack. His efforts all fell wide though, since his vision was completely gone.

His men seemed to fare no better, with all their attacks seemingly focused on their ancient blood enemy. Feldspar almost laughed as the weapons clanged from his armour or he stepped nimbly asside from their blows.

The gekko was another story though. Again the creature snapped at the dwarf, catching his raised arm in its mouth and sinking filthy teeth into the meat of the bicep. (Hits AC 20, 7 damage)

Another of the goblin soldiers appeared at the end of the corridor and fired its bow hurriedly at the melee. It missed....horribly.

Ok, nice effect from Jo'no there. Once again a controll spell comes into its own hehe. Goblin king and his heavily wounded companion are blinded. Gekko isn't. Goblins are all targeting Feldspar, but this round my dice were not feeling kind to your poor GM. New goblin appeared at N23 since i wont update map until till tonight.

Group 3 is up. Tania, Durik, Feldspar. Goblin king should be a little easier to hit now he's blinded. <grumble grumble>

Tania laughs and keeps encouraging her companion: "Ah! Ah! Ah! Quick thinking Jo'no, looks like the king has lost its perspective on things. Time for an overthrow!"

Tania conjures arcane magic, raises her sword and smashes it against the gekko attacking Feldspar.

Round 2b
With the goblin king blinded, there is nothing he can do to stop Tania's longsword slicing into his gekko's neck. The creature twitched horribly as the blade sliced through muscle, sinew and bone, lopping the head completely free. Slowly it lost its grip on the roof, one foot at a time, and fell ponderously to the floor, crushing the goblin below it under its weight. The king fell free of his harness, but was lying prone and almost helpless before the dwarf in front of him.

Feldspar swaung his great hammer at the king, striking him hard in the side and eliciting a grunt of pain from he golbin. The blow was heavy, but this creature had won the right to rule through vicious combat and pure cunning, and one blow was unlikely to end him.

Durik tried to finish him, but his shot fell wide. He'd been forced to adjust the shot partway through given the king had fallen, and its prone position made it very difficult for the inquisitor to finish off.

At the rear of the battle, another goblin appeared with a bow. It too drew an arrow and fired into the swirling melee but the shaft went wide, disapearing somewhere into the corridor in front of Feldspar.

Ok, Round three is up. Group 1 to act. Mikka, Idrian and Jo'no

Jo'no will release the power of his wand at the king if he still seems conscious after Irdian's attack, otherwise the target of the wand will be the next nearest foe.

Round 3a

Idrian fired his bow at the king, barely able to hit him with his prone position. The goblin screamed in pain as the arrow sunk deeply into his abdomen. Black blood leacked from his lips but he still seemed ready to fight. A blast of magic from Jo'no also struck the king, but still he fought on.

With blinking eyes, the kings vision returned and he lept to his feet. (Tania and Feldspar get and AoO). He roared in anger and struck at the dwarven Paldain before him, his weapon easily by passing the dwarfs defenses and causing him some pain (Hits AC 26, 6 damage).

The two goblins still fighting from teh concealment of the fog also struck at the dwarf, aiding their king as much as possible. One of them managed to beat the Paladins armour and also scored a line of blood on the dwarf. (Hits AC 21, 4 damage. Miraculously he also managed not to fail the miss chance cos of the fog.)

The second goblin there attacked in a complext pattern, but was seemingly baffled by the fog and attacked a shadow just left of the Paladin. (See.....stupid fog)

From the far end of the hall, the goblin with its bow again fired, but to no avail.

Mikka delayed for now, guessing that Mark has been held up with some real life stuff. Goblin king and his minions have acted. Group 3 to go. Feldspar, Tania and Durik. Remember Tania and Feldspar get an AoO as well. If they hit and do enough damage, the kings hit on Feldspar won't actually be happening.

Map hasn't changed from previous link. Please use that for updating.

Idrian takes aim at the king again. Many times, if there chief was taken out, goblins would run.

Stepping left, she moves the sword in a horizontal arc, hoping to catch the king's head as he gets up.

Tania draws on her abilty to inspire her friends, allowing her innate magics to wash over them even as she tries to strike the goblin king. Neither of her attacks succeeds however, though the second one comes close.

Mikka used her mothers wand to again bring forht the fiery wrath of nature. The tongue of flame licked out and strucky the goblin king, searing into his flesh and causing him great harm. He screamed, the few stragles of greasy hair on his head singing away and leaving a foul smell in the air.

Feldspar tried desperately to hit the king as he stood, but the little green menace was too nimble by far. His second strike was telling however. The head of the hammer hit the king hard, crushing his head in and spraying brain matter across the wall. The remaining goblins groaned in despair and began to slink away from the fight.

Durik took a parting shot at the goblin archer at the rear of the fight. His shot was spoiled by the timber beams of the fortress walls thogh, and the creature was left to fight.

If you so wish, these goblins will flee and escape through various bolt holes in the place. At that point this particular combat is over. If you choose to pursue them or continue the fight, let me know and we'll run it as it happens. Idrian, we'll use your attack on whatever you attack next if you like. Seems a shame to waste a good roll.

Idrian will take parting shots, but will allow the goblins to run.

As the goblins crept off into the dark corners and hideaway nooks of their fortress, the party was able to breath easy again. Idrian last departing shot had felled one of the archers at the far end of the hall, but the rest of them had no fight left in them. With so few of the Goblin tribe likely to have survived their assault, this tribe was all but eradicated. The other tribes in the region would see to anhialating the remainig geenskins.

All that was left now was to descend into the rock itself, following the smooth stairwell down. The darkened stair was earily quiet after the furor of the battle that had just occured. Surely the noise of that combat had echoed through the opened doorway and down into the chambers below. It would be unlikley that any occupants close by would be caught unawares.

The goblin king had a +1 shortsword which it was using like a longsword. A masterwork breastplate (Small), 1 x Potion of Barkskin, 2 x Potion of cure moderate wounds.

Within the throne room itself is a large sea chest with a fairly rusty looking lock to it. The king was carrying a set of keys on him, but whether one of these opens the chest is anyones guess.

There are more chambers upstairs you havn't found, but with their king dead, any goblins on this level have fled the area.

"And don't come back!!!"

Tania cools off, the arcane power trickling away from her fingers, into the air around her. She replaces her kit and pushes her hair back, away from her face.

She pauses for a moment, taking all in...

"How is everyone?"

She moves to the king and grabs its keys, then moving to the chest. as she tries the different keys, she laughs and smiles then: "On or back? I'm almost tapped out of tricks, but I haven't been injured."

Male Dwarf Paladin / 4

Feldspar looks himself over. "I've got a scratch but otherwise I'm fine. We should distribute these potions before we continue on. I have a feeling there is more waiting for us."

Who wants the Cure Mods? Feldspar still has Lay on Hands available so perhaps they should go to another frontliner. Idrian and Tania perhaps?

"Thanks, I'll take one for healing, and one of protection... If it's all right with everyone..."

Taking one CMW and the Barkskin.

Idrian only has 5 points of damage. He will take the other healing potion if no one needs it now. He already has a +1 hand axe so I don't feel right going after the short sword. Does anyone use one or at least not have a decent magic weapon?

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

"It's fine with me. I've no need for the sword either. The creatures have fallen back but we should be careful exploring the rest of this place. Not that I need to tell you that of course."

Durik looks to the lone arrow in his first quiver as he says this, mentally reviewing each shot he took in the battle.

Tania grabbed the keys and went at the chest with reckless abandon. The first key she tried came no where to fitting, but it did manage to trigger the nasty little trap the goblins had set on the thing. As she jiggled the key at the lock, a rusty scythe sprang forth from the chest and sliced into her wrist. 8 points damage from that nasty piece of work. You also need to make a fort save. You have been the unlicky one for having to make save in this party so far Tania. I put it down to your impetuous nate hehe).

Once they had found the correct key though, the chest was revealed to be loaded with coins and cheap gems. [ooc]This collection consists of an unorganized pile of 7,432 cp, 2,490 sp, 89 gp, 3 pp, a leather pouch of 34 badly fl awed malachites worth 1 gp each, a Medium chain shirt, a Medium masterwork scimitar, a pair of masterwork manacles, a gold holy symbol of Sarenrae worth 100 gp, a jade necklace worth 60 gp, and a fi ne blue silk gown with silver trim worth 150 gp.

Now it was time to descend into the rock and find what lay in wait.
with Feldspar leading the way, the troupe followed the stairway down. The area was lit with crude torches, shedding a shadowy light and filling much of the passages with smoke. While not choking in its thikness, it was nonetheless unpleasent.

The first room they passed had been filled with cheap bedding and reaked of goblin. However, it had been recently abandoned. Idrian noted that the room was most likely a harem room of some kind. Goblins tended to follow and Alpha male breeding cycle, and this was most likely where the king retired to when his duties allowed him to. Not any more though, the hunter noted wryly.

Note, any short term buffs will have ended by now. If you wish to prepare anyhing else let me know.

Also, those of you using bows can replensish arrows used so far from those the goblins have remaining in their quivers. Technically they would be shorter than what you're used to using, but they work the same in term of game mechanics.

Which is the harem room, D2 or D3?

Idrian wrote:
Which is the harem room, D2 or D3?

D2 is the harem.

D3 is actually what passes as a nursery. It is empty now, but you all can't fail to notice that goblin ideas of caring for their young is to lock them in cages and poke them with sticks. No wonder they're such feral creatures.

I also exposed most of the corridors for you. Ther is another door next to Durik but this door is locked and unable to open easily. When you move off, please include stealth and perception rolls so I can inform you of relevant information with greater ease. Cheers

Lets go down the corridor in between D2 and D3.

As they uncover the treasure: "Wow, that's a lot of copper! Hey, by the way, we still have that wand right?"

She hopes to get cured by Mikka before proceeding.

Listening to Feldspar clang and clatter his way ahead, Jo'no realizes a stealthy approach is fairly pointless.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

With Durik and Idrian as the most stealthy, they boh headed off down the corridor between the harem and nursery. Much to their relief, they found nought but empty chambers. Each of them contained a palette with bedding, a foot locker and various other items. The rooms had the appearence of being regulalry used, and two of them had the distinct air of female decoration about them. This was something that was hard to put into words, just a feel about the way the room was kept and the odd trinket or two that happened to decorate the room.

The lockers were in fact locked, making it difficult to determine what was within them.

Withdrawing from these bedchambers, the two scouts tried the next corridor along. As he approached the door to this one, Idrian caught the disctinct sound of goblin voices from behind it. A very deep goblinoid voice was snarling at some others <in goblin> "Just get into those cells and shut up. The bars'll keep you safe while I deal with whoever comes through the damnable door. But if you don't SHUTUP! the buggers will hear us and we'll die like pigs!"

It worked, for whoever had been complaining earlier fell silent.

When you come up with a plan, please include Initiatives. The door is unlocked, but has been braced so will require a strength check to force open. Only one person can fit at the door at a time. Include any spells or other abilties you wish to prepare before bursting in.

Idrian motions for Durik to go back. It seems that they are getting ready for us and he doesn't want to just walk into an ambush.

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

Durik moves back with Idrian. When they return to the others he motions towards the door and whisper as quietly as he can.

"They're prepared for us in there"

Whispering: "Could be simply the women, with a eunuch guard... I say we lock them in."

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

Durik visibly shudders at the idea of a goblin eunuch.

"Whatever we do let's do it fast, I don't want to get ambushed again."

going in? Or going onwards? None of your posts have made it clear sorry

"It sounded like there's just one combatant. We might be able to rush him and take him down before he's able to do much damage. Or maybe we can trick him. Do one of you casters have any ideas?"

"I agree that the less preparation time they have, the better. Warriors to the front, and lets get ready to enter. If there are mutliple opponents, I will likely try to magically sleep them."

Ok, going to run with that plan. Feldspar first, pushing door open. Tania to follow, since she has longspear for reach if needed. Mikka, then archers, then our Wizard. That's the marching order. I'll post intitiatives and a map tomorrow morning my time. Feel free to change marching order befor then if you'd like, especially if you feel nervous leaving our caster at the back of the line. cheers

Tania gets ready for the charge, her hands gripping the haft of her spear.

Jo'no wouldn't mind being 3rd or 4th in, so that he can help control the battlefield with his spells.

Feldspar clanked into position, braced his shoulder and slammed into the door at the end of the corridor. The wooden structure slammed inwards, all but shattering the stool that had been jammed up against it to try and block progress through there.

The dwarf staggered a little as he finished his move and it saved im from being skewered by a long shafted arrow.

At the end of the long room before them, a large bygbear crouched behind a heavy wooden table, having just released its longbow shot. It snarled at the fact it had missed and casually dropped the bow and drew a heavy flail instead. "Come, taste Bruthasmus flail" it shouted in broken common.

Inititiative order is Group 1 = Bruthazmus. Group 2 = all of you. Group 3 = Goblin women in the cells

Bruthazmus had his readied action already, and has had his round 1 turn readying his weapon. Group 2 to have round 1 actions

Map link

Tania moves into position (P8) so that she can get a shot at the bugbear with her longspear, but instead of poking at it, she starts by encouraging her comrades: "You say you have asthma, brute? We'll ease your pain, no worries. Hell, in a few seconds, you won't feel a thing!"

Inspire Courage, +1 hit and damage, and some Will saves.

Jo'no conjures forth a large orb of fire underneath the bugbear's feet. The wizard then moves into the room and out of the way of his rushing comrades.

Flaming Sphere (Reflex DC 16 to negate damage) on Bugbear's square, and then Jo'no moves to P10.
