Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

Would I be able to squeeze past Jono or are the rest of us essentially bottle-necked until he moves?

Area of effect spell suck when you've got low initiative. :p

You can move past him Mikka. The problem with spell is it's large radius in such tight quarters. It might come in useful later though if some of the chambers elsewhere are as big as the evil chapel from earlier. Will update tonight after work. Cheers

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

Revised action

Squeezing past Jono, Mikka begins a lilting chant, her voice echoing eerily in the chamber as motes of wan blue light coalesce around the woman casting. Both her and the armored man's breath condense in the air as the localized temperature rapidly plummets coating everything with a layer of frost that sparkles as if in the moonlight.

Casting Frost Fell targeting spell caster, 5ft burts so hits armored man as well. 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8 Cold damage, DC 19 fort save or staggered 1 round, additional damage on 2nd round on my turn so counts as continuous damage for purposes of concentration checks

Spellcraft check to identify Mikka's spell: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12

Unaware of what Mikka's spell is, Jo'no continues his incantations yet frowns as he sees Nuala getting injured by Mikka's spell.

Round 1

Tania and Feldspar moved as one, rshing forwards to engage the large fighter as soon as possible. Tania's invisibilty allowed her to leap upon the table and fight from there, negating the mans defense and giving her a height advantage as well. Feldspar wen the direct route, thumping his hammer into the table though, rather than the man himself.

Durik and Idrian moved into the room, both of them taking shots at teh man bhind the table. Duriks arrow imbedded into the wood, but Idrian found his mark and the man hissed as the arrow drew blood. (NPC'd Idrian, sorry if that was too soon.)

Mikka squeezed past the chanting Jo'no and summoned a deep frost across the two combatants. The man shivered momentarily but shrugged off the spell with a great show toughness. The woman however seemed to frost over, her breath fogging in the air as the ice crystaliced in her hair and around the edge of her eyes.

She seemed to panick a little, an fired off a wand from her hand at the wizard chanting in the back of the room, hoping to disrupt his spell (Magic missile at Jo'No 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 2 = 6. You need to make a caster check to keep your spell going based on the damage it does.)

The man snarled at Feldspar "Don't talk to me about Goblins little man, I only do what I'm told. Today I've been told to kill you!"

He swung his bastard sword across the the parralel of the table, striking feldspar heavily across the brow and spraying the dwarven blood across the wall. Hits AC 27, possible crit. Confirming roll missed. 9 damage to Feldspar

Round 2 is up, over to you lot

Aarrrrgggghhhhh

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

Just clarifying, the save is for the staggering, but he takes the damage too. Second round both take 1d6 ⇒ 3 damage, Fort save for 1/2

As the chill permeates the air Mikka once again targets the woman, a rhythmic almost growling chant building into a rumble that culminated into an explosion of dirt and dust, scattering debris in all directions as a 5' pit opens under the woman.

DC 17 reflex save or land prone in 5ft pit. Successful, can choose to land standing or jump clear if possible

Concentration check: 1d20 + 11 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 6 = 27

Jo'no completes his casting and pauses slightly to see its effect. If Nuala does not drop into a slumber then Jo'no follows with casting another spell which fills the area behind Nuala with webs.

Jo'no will target the burst of his sleep spell so that only Nuala is in the area. If the sleep spell does not work, then Jo'no will fill the room behind Nuala with webs which will also include the area that Nuala and her friend are standing in.

Sleep DC: 15
Web DC: 16

AC 18, FF 14, T 14; HP 42/42
Arcane Pool 4/4

It's ok DM Wrath. I was waiting for everyone to post so I could figure out where I could go. And Jo'no, the woman is not Nualia. Nualia is past them somewhere makeing preparations.

Composite Longbow +1 str +3: deadly aim , pb shot, precise shot
to hit 1d20 + 8 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 8 - 1 + 1 = 23 damage 1d8 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 8

Noted and corrected thanks Mikka. Also, it isn't Nualia, but a dark skinned girl. I can see where you made the mistake though Jo'no, as I wasn't as clear as I should have been for that. Cheers. Update later

Oops. Well I sure would not have dumped all my spells to save her then. If its not too late, I would like to not cast web, and would rather just target the woman (or more likely an image) with a magic missle from the wand.

If the man still stands, Tania lets arcane energy concentrate on the tip of the blade and then stabs at the man, pushing the tip in with her hips, as she becomes visible again: "You can't just hide behind orders. Use your head man!"

SwA: Arcane strike
StS: 2h-longsword (+2 from invisible) 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29; 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Male Dwarf Paladin / 4

Round 2: AC 18; HP 27/36

Feldspar shakes his head at the blow he'd received, sending droplets of blood flying. "A man who follows dark orders will come to a dark end."

Raising his hammer over his head, he strives to bring it down on the warrior without hitting the barrier this time.

Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 9 - 2 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 4 = 9

Durik fired, but it seemed that Desna's luck was again elsewhere as the arrow thudded into the table (That string fo luck has to break soon Durik!!)

Idrian watched the shot and corrected his own aim to compensate, driving the arrow past the man's shield and into his arm. He screamed in pain and frustration as his protective barrier failed him again.

Mikka's frosty spell continued to chill both of her opponents, with the dark skinned mage particularly stating to look scared and weakened. A pit opened beneath her feet even as Jo'no's magical sleep settled upon the two opponents. The man again seemed to shrug off the effect, but with some surprise, the mae seemed to droop into a slumber even as the pit opened. She fell soundlessly into the pit but there was a sickening noise as she hit the bottom.

Tania suddenly became visible and her armoured opponents eyes widened in shock and fear. He had prepared his defenses to stop Feldspars blow on his shield, and in so doing left himself wide open for this surprise angle. The longsword drove in and under his armpit, penetrating the chest cavity and most likely into a lung. Deep red blood immediately sprayed outwards and began to flow in great rivulets over his armour as the bard wrenched the weapon free.

With a sharp his of pain, the man threw down his weapon, and pressed his hand into the deadly wound. "Enough ...<blood specced cough>. I yield to your mercy!" He stated, drooping with pain and fear.

Behind him, Tania caught a quick glance at the mage who had dropped into the pit. Her neck lay at a very strange angle, and her eyes stared wide in death. She wasn't going to be asking for mercy.

Technically the fall didn't kill her, but it made better story telling. She'd taken enough damage by that stage to drop her to negatives anyway. The man is on 1 HP and very much surrendering.

Her sword up, Tania hisses: "Speak now Goblin-lover, what is Nualia up to, and where?"

Idrian moves to relieve him of any other weapons he has. Idrian is not worried his comfort.

After waiting for the man's responses to Tania's questions, Jo'no will cast a spell and peer at the two enemies. Detect Magic. If no one else seems interested in going into the pit to examine the body of the fallen mage, Jo'no will. He is most curious to see if perhaps she is carrying a spellbook.

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

Durik will keep his bow readied, more to fire at any offending piece of furniture or wall than a threat that might appear.

Detect Evil on the pair, as well as Chaos and Law.

The man responded weakly, the blood from the sword wound gushing over his hands as he tried to stem the flow in vain. "She's downstairs somewhere..<cough>..Trying to free some creture she says she can talk to. I never heard..<cough, cough> heard it though."

He nodded his head back over his shoulder as Idrian divested him of a bow and a dagger as well, not enough strength remaining in him to even struggle against it. "There's a secret door in the wall back there, though I've never been through it. Leads to some strange kind of chambers downstairs apparently, all glowing walls and strange achitecture if you believe Nualia and Lyrie here. <wheeze>"

Jo'No's magically enhanced vision turned up a number of auras on both the man and the dead mage. His armour glowed with augmentation, and a vial at his belt was obviously healing in nature.

The wand that now lay near the dead girls hand glowed with magic as well, but Jo'no already knew that having been blasted by it himself. Her cloak was augmented and she too had a curative potion. A number of scrolls on the table in the room behind her glowed with magic, and beside those was a large tome that was almost definitely a spell book.

In game terms - The fighter has +1 banded mail. Good for Feldspar, though slightly big. 1x Potion of Cure moderate wounds. Masterwork dagger and Masterwork Bastard sword, both with a family crest. Masterwork heavy steel shield, dwarven made with a stylized manticore.

The dead mage -Lyrie- had: Potion of cure light wounds, Wand of magic missile, CL3 - 16 charges., Scrolls of Sleep, comprehend language, see invisibility, minor image.. Cloak of resistance +1.

[ooc]Her spell book has - All the cantrips from the core book,

1st level - comprehend languages, detect secret doors, floating disc, identify, obscuring mist, sleep.

2nd level - locate object, minor image, mirror image, see invisibility, spider climb

Note - you can swap out one from each level to a spell from the APG, Ultimate magic or Ultimate combat if you'd like.

DM Wrath wrote:

Okay, swapping out sleep for Ear-Piercing Scream (UM), and see invisibility for Cushioning Bands (UM).

With the gear quickly gathered, Jo'no is anxious to press on to see what sort of mischief Nuala is up to.

While holding out the wand and the spell tome and addressing the group in general, "do you mind if I make use of these?"

Don't forget that Idrian is also a Magus. Though I am totally fine with the switch outs.
Idrian doesn't like prisoners, but he won't let a prisoner just die, so he allows Feldspar (or Durik or whoever) to apply first aid to the merc's wounds before binding him .

missed your post yesterday Durik, sorry

Durik's god granted vision shows no sign of evil in the man, and only the slightest traces of chaotic tendencies in him.

The dead girl had a very faint evil aura, fading now even as the heat left her body. She was also of a chaotic bent it would appear, though that was purely academic now.

plans?

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

"We should hasten to stop whatever madness this Nuala is conjuring. Whatever it is won't be good."

With that Durik begins examining his bow for any obvious flaws.

I must have damaged something in that large fight, I haven't hit anything since.

Tania helps rapidly putting away the items "found" and secure the prisoner. She tales a potion of moderate healing and puts it on her belt. "Hope nobody minds. If I fall, use it."

"Now stranger, where is that secret door. How do we open it?">

Male Dwarf Paladin / 4

After determining the man's evil and lack thereof, Feldspar nods curtly. "Show us this door you speak of. You have a great deal to do to atone for the evils you have committed here."

Feldspar would detect evil and get the same result Durik got, I expect. He'll certainly take the banded mail and waste no time in taking advantage of it's improved protection.

The man points vaguely at the back wall of the small room he was defending only moments before. "I never saw them actually open thedoor, I only ever really saw them after they'd come up from below. Today was the first time I've even seen the inside of this room, given I mostly worked with Tsuto and Brathasmus in planning defense and training the damnable greenskins."

He was breathing easier now that his wound had been seen to and dressed, but he was still very weak from blood loss and pain. Idrian bound him tightly, ensuring he couldn't escape at this stage.

It took only a matter of moments for the group to find the door, activated by a simple pressure plate. Feldspar had noticed that piece of stonework, his dwarven affinity with stone helping there. The wall slid sidewards, disapearing into a cleverly designed slot on well simple rollers. It made a grinding noise as it went, the stone on stone almost impossible to mask. A flight of stairs wound down into the rock island, with a luminescent blue glow coming from wherever the twisting stairwell ended.

"Be warned", the injured man stated as they were all about to descend. "We had a Shonati man with us when we first got here. Big guy, name of Atius. He was cut to pieces by some trap down there the first time Nualia and he went in to explore. I heard the two women speaking of how they kept it active in case the goblins ever got out of control. It would give us some protection if we had to flee into the deeper parts.". His face looked haunted for a moment as he finished "I wouldn't wanna get caught in it. Cut up Atius like a Bluefin ready for serving. Never seen anything like it."

Idrian gives the mercenary a disapproving look. "We'll be sure to tell the sheriff how helpful you've been. He's a fair man who'll take that into account. I am less fair, though. I won't hurt a prisoner, but if you're running you're not a prisoner. Do you understand?

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

Mikka gives Idrian a sidelong glance but remains slent.

"Soooo... Who's first?! Someone knows anything about trap? If not, I'll go." Tania then grabs a potion of healing in her hand...

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

"If she told you of the trap she must have told you how to avoid it. How many are down there?"

Durik prepares to move with Idrian, saying nothing about the threats.

Souls such as these are not normally my purview but I will make an exception.

Male Dwarf Paladin / 4

Feldspar steps aside to give Tania room to enter first before following.

That wasn't a threat. I was informing him of my code.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

Most people would consider it a threat, it's the curse of being literal

If you are telling someone not to run from you or you will kill them... it is a threat. It can also be called a warning or a factual statement, but they are all the same thing. Now, given the scenario, I actually thought it was an appropriate threat and I like how Idrian worded it -- gritty yet still somewhat cordial.

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

Absolutely, didn't mean it negatively at all, just seemed like a very legit thing to say to the guy. The souls I was referring to in my thought bubble were the evil ones below, since unless they're possessed it's not normally Durik's bag.

Idrian will be last down the rabbit hole. He gives a meaningful look at the merc as he leaves.

The wounded man shrugs as best he can with his wounds. "Lyrie was gonna lead me down if we had to flee, but you killed her afore we had the chance. I really had no where to run when that happened. I wasn't gonna risk getting cut apart, and the two women never saw fit to tell me how to avoid the damned thing."

The spiral stair leads down a good 20 feet, and Feldspar suggests this would put the group at the water level or below. A heavy stone door lies to one side of a doorway, its surface damaged by hamer blows and chisel marks where people had worked on it to remove it from its frame.

Beyond that, a large room can clearly be seen in the eerie luminescent light coming from the tiles of the floor. A number of semi ruined statues line the room, all of them depicting a man in robes and wielding a large Glaive in one hand and a book in the other. The statues seem to have been knocked from their pedastals during whatever event ruined this place, and where their ruins fell to the floor, the tiles are shattered and unable to glow.

A single entrance leads from this place, and the room itself seems to have seen much traffic. Indeed, a simple wooden table has been placed in here with a number of recovered items of interest from further in the complex. Obviously this is where Nualia and Lyrie conducted their initial studies of what they found in here. Nothing there seems of any value, except maybe to a collector of antiquities or curios.

A single door leads from the room, left open by someone who obiously was in too much of a hurry to swing it closed. Through this doorway, a long hallway can be seen. More statues line this one, but more importantly the far end of the hall has two doors leading out, on opposite sides of the hall. There is no sign of anyone at this point, and the sickly light is making you feel a little queasy.

No map at this stage, will get it sorted tomorrow hopefully

Her stomach wound tight from the oppressive feeling she gets from the place, Tania hesitates before moving forward. She looks at the glaives, wondering if they are not part of the trap their prisonner had described. She also looks at the floor, looking for possible clues of past butchery. If what he said is true, then perhaps there are still signs that would show where it took place...

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

As she proceeds with extreme caution, she changes the potion in her hand for the one that would transform her in a tree. She asks, with a slightly trembling voice. "Let me know if you see anything..."

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

K. History 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Durik moves behind the group, the oppressive air and strange light causing a light sweat to form on his face.

This must have been what they felt. What she felt. Don't think like that. Desna is with me.

Moving on from examining the statues, Durik keeps his eyes open for a trap.

Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Neither Tania nor Durik spot anything suspicious or trap like as they cross the room. Durik's knowledge is varied and deep in some aspects, but he has no recollection of a place like this nor whom the statues may represent.

Was hoping to hear from som others before moving. Neither of the posters have spotted a trap in the room so far.

Carefully, Tania inches forward, then she thinks on it, and tries to at least use her longspear to press the tiles in front of her with some her weight. "Can one of you perhaps summon a creature to walk that hall? I mean, he said there's some kind of deadly trap, and I can't help but notice those sharp weapons in the hands of innocent looking statues..."

Anyone else? Tania, I'll give folks another day to post then resolve this. Cheers.

Male Dwarf Paladin / 4

Somehow I missed that there had been any recent posts.

Feldspar moves a little closer and peers around the area with a frown. The notion of such a cowardly trick such as a trap offends him greatly.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

"I fear I have not been taught to recognize such things." He grumbles in his version of a whisper.

Jo'no watches his companions examine the area for traps. He remains behind everyone having little talents to offer in this task. Upon hearing Tania's query, "I can summon a creature with the power of my staff. If we are at a loss for any other option then I could call forth a creature, but I suspect Mikka might be the better person to summon a creature for this type of experiment. Perhaps an ape?"

Just to remind you, unless you can actually communicate with the creature you summon, it will just stand near you or attack the nearest enemy it can see. The spell is pretty clear that if you want it to do more than attack a visible enemy, you have to be able to communicate that. Cheers. Will update tonight when im not at work.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

Perception1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Idrian tires of the delay and searches the area for a trap.
"Just move and let me do it." He says irritably.
Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25

The group cautiously move across the room, the very threat of the trap delaying them far more than the two combatants upstairs managed to do.

Tania had just started to probe ahead with her spear when Idrian gruffly took the lead. Even his keen eyesite only just managed to pick up the slight elevation in the tile Tania was about to step on. Her spear had probed it, but apparently that wasn't enough to trigger the trap.

The bard and the Scout shared a look that spoke of fear and relief combined. Idrian wasn't sure what the trap would do, but he was sure stepping on that falgstone would prove nasty.

Easily avoidable by merely stepping across that section of corridor. Very lucky that Idrian posted before I updated hehe. Tania, unfortunately the trigger invlolves more than just pressing it with a long pole. Very good idea though.

Map link

Note, the trapped square is bounded by the dotted lines either side of it

Tania let's out a sigh of relief, then presses on. Enough time wasted. Let's find Nalia!"

She's ready to let Idrian go first, but steps in if he hesitates. If she goes first, she stops at the first door and listens carefully, makes sure everyone is ready, grabs her sword then opens the door.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

"Well done Idrian, let us mark this spot and avoid it."

Would that I had more skill with such things.
