Goblin:
Reckit! Yes yes I want to live! I run very far! OVer the bridge and away!

Meanwhile Orik and Shalelu will join the group. (I assume you are going to paw through the bodies and look around? I'll get a description and treasure type stuff up soon.)

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

Camillo responds, a sorrowful look on his face.

Goblin:
"Reckit. I'm afraid you must do something before you are allowed to run far, far away."

Camillo is intentionally dragging this out to keep the suspense on the goblin's pea brain.

Kithian sits up and scatches Reggie's ear. Did I miss anything?
The barbarian gets to his feet and picks up his falchion before walking over to the goblin chief's head and kicking it, much like a soccor ball.

Even in her current state, Vidar is unable to fully keep his eyes of Shalelu, and thus he is slightly less aware than normal.

Breathtaking...

Kithian closes his eyes as he holds Reggie's head in his hands and speaks low. The bleeding from the slashes and stab wounds stopping as the dogs wounds begin to mend.

Cure Light wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

The half orc smiles at the dog and stands praying yet again to the god of war for healing. This time for his own wounds.

Oops. Sorry about that. I missed your post.

As Rullis checks on everyone's injuries, including Orik and Shalelu, he gestures toward Camillo to get his attention and says, "See if you can find out how to get out of here without the bridge. We need to get these two back to Father Zantus as soon as possible. Though we still haven't found the missing patrol or this woman and her bugbear."

Damage Report?

I am 17 down after leveling up. I have two lay on hands for the rest of the day I can use unless we have other healing available.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Don't forget to heal your new HP from the level Kerrec

MAP!

Ripnugget had: mwk breastplate. 2 potions. 1 "nice" dogchopper. A ring of keys. Dented/battered crown.

Commandos: Small bows, small dogchoopers, small studded leather, small arrows (All x4)

Warchanter: 1 potion, 1 small whip, small leather armor, small *actual* shortsword.

Hobgoblins: 2 x Longbows, 2 x Studded Leather, 2 Slings, 6 assorted glass "orbs" full of liquid. (roughly golf ball sized). 2 longswords. Approx 45 gp in assorted coins. 1 scrap of paper with "note" written in goblin.

The small goblin quivers in fear as Camillo and the others looms over him, the anticipation obviously getting to him. (That and the dog, and the barbarian kicking "filed goals" with the chiefs head, etc.)

Goblin:
What must I do? Whhatt?

Edit: Just noticed my maps leaves the door numbers intact even in unexplored areas. Funny. Not a big deal but funny.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

"What should I ask the little anklebiter? Anything specific?"

Goblin:
"You must tell me what I want to know, little one."

The goblin nods eagerly

Goblin:
Yes yes! I tell longshanks, I go free!

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

Camillo gives an understanding nod.

Goblin:
"Yes, of course. But you must tell me everything. No lies. And in exchange, I will even tell you something. First, tell me about the woman - the one that hired him and brought him to Thistletop. Where is she? What is she doing? Who is with her now?"

As he speaks, Camillo points toward Orik.

Goblin:
The woman is downstairs, in the new place. I have not seen it but I have heard of it.

Male Half Orc Barbarian 5/ Oracle 1/ RP 1, Perception +7, Darkvision, Fort +8/ Ref +1/ Will +3, Init +4, AC 18, HP :76

Is the Breast Plate medium size? If so I would be interested in throwing my chain shirt in for it.

The Exchange

Male Human Desk Monkey 2/ Logistics Guru 3/ Over-educated 2/Gamer 6

Nah, small. Ripnugget is big for a goblin but not that big.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

Goblin:
"You will show me where the new place is. Are there more of your tribe here? If they do not fight us, they do not need to die."

Male Human Cleric 4 [HP 21/23; AC18,T12,FF16; F+5,R+4,W+10; Per+4; Init +2]

The only healing left from me is the wand. Sounds like we have more combat today, so if anyone needs it (Kerrec?) we should prepare now.

As Camillo and Kerrec entertain our guest, Rullis collects some of the items and tries to see if he can tell what they are. Though he is rather naive in this, he tries regardless.

Ripnugget Potion #1 Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 Probably a success
Ripnugget Potion #2 Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 Fail
Warchanter Potion #1 Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 Probably a Fail
Six glass orbs Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

He passes the last two potions over to Vidar, "Any ideas?" before interrupting Camillo and handing him the note.

Actually my channel was done after leveling, so I'd get another 1d6 of healing for everyone... 1d6 ⇒ 3

Male Human Samurai2 AC 18/11/16, HP 19/19Conditions: Nil, F5/R2/W1+2vs Mind Effecting

Thanks, healing added

Should be Spellcraft but your mod is the same according to your character sheet... Ripnugget's are potions of cure moderate wounds. The chanter's potion escapes Rullis and the six glass orbs are not magical they are alchemical...and I am not sure what you would use to identify those...Alchemists use Craft: Alchemy for that sort of thing but I would allow Int checks based on what you saw during the fight. (I am open to suggestions on that one)

goblin:
There is a level between here and there and Bruz went downstairs to block the passages and guard the stairs. I will surely die if I lead you there...please...that is all I know!

GM Screen:

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Vidar:

The final potion is a potion cure light wounds.

The glass baubles appear to be alchemical creations compressed into breakable glass stones.

There are 6; 2 red, 2 green, 2 black.

Based on the combat you expect the green have the glue like adhesive used in "tanglefoot bags" while the red ones are surely the sticky sweet alchemical fire. The black ones defy an obvious identification and you are with too many options to be sure what the black ones contain.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

Camillo looks at the goblin for a long moment. He shares, "This one says 'Bruz' has gone down to block the passages in the level below this. The woman is in the level below that. Would 'Bruz' that be the bugbear?" He looks at the elven ranger as he asks the last question.

Turning back to the goblin, he sheathes his sword as he says,

Goblin:
"Fair enough. How do I get to the level below this? And how do I get to the level below that? And what is this? And what are these?"

He holds up the warchanter's potion and a couple of the alchemical spheres as he speaks.

Shalelu is a shade shy of passing out and isn't exactly "coherent" but at the word "Bugbear" she does mumble the word "Bruzathmus" and a series of elven words best not shared in polite company.

The goblin points at his potion and utters in broken Common, Healing. Very little. Cure light wounds.

Looking at the orbs the goblin looks crestfallen.

Goblin:
I don't know! I don't know! Stairs in back! Stairs in front from trophy room. I don't know how to get to next level. Downstairs for champions and chief! New level not known to me, I just hear about it!

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

"It doesn't know what the orbs are. It says it doesn't know the next level because only the champions and chief went there. But there are stairs around here somewhere. I'm going to try to have it show me at least that much before it melts from the tension."

Goblin:
"OK, you don't know the next level. Show me where the stairs are. Come."

"Vidar, would you mind following along with your bow in case this one tries to flee? I haven't gotten back to pick up my bow yet."

Door 4 leads to a stairwell down. Door 12, where the warchanter was running to before supposedly leads towards a stairwell but the door is locked.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

Goblin:
"So this one (Door 12) is where Bruz went?"

"We have stairs down. What else can we ask this one? I promised his freedom with plans to tell him how the druid double-crossed his tribe..." and us, of course.

Male Human Cleric 4 [HP 21/23; AC18,T12,FF16; F+5,R+4,W+10; Per+4; Init +2]

DM Devon:
Per the PRD under Magic Items/Potions:

Identifying Potions: In addition to the standard methods of identification, PCs can sample from each container they find to attempt to determine the nature of the liquid inside with a Perception check. The DC of this check is equal to 15 + the spell level of the potion (although this DC might be higher for rare or unusual potions).

But the orbs should have been spellcraft if they were magical, but I didn't know that yet... :)

"Ask him how he is going to flee this place. The bridge is gone." After a short pause and looking around, "I'd just tie him up, we'll release him once we're safely past that druid."

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

Camillo smiles. "Yeah, he didn't ask about the bridge and I didn't volunteer that information. I think he might soil himself worse than he already has to think that he's stuck on this rock with the likes of us."

Goblin:
"My friends don't trust you. You will have to trust me. I am going to tie you up while we go downstairs and will free you when we return. If we don't make it back, your friends will find you and know you did everything you could, but were captured."

Male Human Samurai2 AC 18/11/16, HP 19/19Conditions: Nil, F5/R2/W1+2vs Mind Effecting

I'd rather not let it live, they've proven to be viscious, backstabbing creatures. How many attacks from behind must we suffer before we learn?"

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Rullis:
So strange but I guess that makes sense. It gives non-magic types the change to know what a potion does which is nice. Thanks for the reference.

The goblin just about loses his mind at thought of being tied up. He looks at Shalelu and Orik with some trepidation and probably rightfully so as he was on hand for the "celebrations" earlier. He looks about the room for some manner of escape but timidly surrenders himself by putting his wrists up and together.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

"I wanted to use him against the druid. Besides, he was more likely to provide me with information if I provided him with some hope in return. Not that I have a lot of trouble lying to a goblin, but it did everything I've asked in exchange for its life. And I meant it when I said I would let it live. I don't think killing - or not killing - this one will make a lot of difference in the grand scheme of things."

Camillo leads the goblin into the storage room where the horse was kept and ties it up. He latches the door when he leaves.

Goblin:
"You'd better hope I'm the one that lets you out. Anything I need to know to help make sure I make it back?"

Male Human Cleric 4 [HP 21/23; AC18,T12,FF16; F+5,R+4,W+10; Per+4; Init +2]

As Camillo returns, Rullis holds out the three potions, "Looks like we have some curative potions here. Two decent ones and one weaker one. I probably shouldn't be the one to holding on to them. Who wants one?"

Holding up the orbs, "Maybe we can find someone back in town who knows what these are. Or..."' A quick chuckles comes out, "... we could just throw one at a goblin and see what happens."

Goblin:
Hobgoblins and Bruz the Bugbear await! Other goblins a champion from the Birdcrunchers and a wizard! The elven man broods all day and has threatened many as his lady searches our home! Our druid said she sought to defile our god! Those who have been below says hounds of darkness follow her. Bruz was to barricade the steps and buy her time. That is all I know! All I know!

Orik looks wanly around the throne room My gear must be stored elsewhere, perhaps with other treasure? Once armored and armed with mine own weapons I can better protect the elf in her weakened state.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

"Give me one of those slings and a few of those orbs. I'll find out what they're for when I bounce one off of Bruz' hide for Shalelu."

"The goblin said there are more hobgoblins and that bugbear waiting for us, along with more goblins - including a champion from the Birdcruncher tribe?" He looks to see if anyone remembers who that might be. "There's also a wizard, the girl and some 'hounds of darkness' that follow her. The elven man he mentioned I think we know is out of the picture. Orik, does this all sound accurate?"

Yes, though I haven't seen these "hounds". When I have seen Nualia she has been deformed and cruel but never followed by shadows. I did my best to avoid her though so who knows what evils she has brought into this world?

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

Kithian shrugs and smiles as he takes regie's leash. Here is an idea. Tie another leash on the gobo and us him to lead us. Who knows Maybe he can save us the trouble of figuring out what to do with it and save us from a trap in the process.

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

Camillo's brow knits for a moment, "You know, he's a worthless little runt, but I did say I'd let him go free. If the rest of you have another plan for him, I'd rather not know about it. And he was absolutely terrified of the idea of going down the stairs - any chance we would have of moving quietly would be nil while he blubbered out front."

He shrugs, "But I'm just one voice. If the group wants to do something else, I won't stand in your way. Now, that door over there is supposed to be where Bruz went, but it's locked. This door over here appears to be open."

Male Human Cleric 4 [HP 21/23; AC18,T12,FF16; F+5,R+4,W+10; Per+4; Init +2]

"Let's check out the rest of this floor first. I don't want anything surprising us from behind." Rullis hands a pair of orbs to Camillo.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec nods in agreement with Rullis. "Perhaps Orik's gear is being kept in one of the rooms on this level."

Looking at the wand. "Would you care to see if the wand can heal these arrow wounds. They are starting to itch."

I am down 10 HPs even after the level up if my math is correct.

Sorry I described these to Vidar but not anyone else: Of the six orbs they are all large glass marble like orbs with a "color" inside: two red, two green, two black.

Pick a door. Any door. *wiggle eyebrows*

"Those are alchemical orbs master Stillman, we have already seen the effects of some of them in combat."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec nods a thank you to Rullis. "Ahhh... Much better."

He loads his crossbow while addressing the others. "If Camillo promised the creature its freedom then we should keep his word. Perhaps tell him if he decides to betray us, there will not be a second chance."

Bard (Arcane Duelist) 3/UC Rogue 4 | AC 22/14/18 (uncanny dodge), hp 42/46; 10/10 Bardic; Effect: None

"It would appear that seeing the chief fall was sufficient to convince him of the lethality of crossing the group. At least Kithian and Toshio."

Good DM Devon, would it be possible to link to the current pertinent map in the Gameplay tab where you have the list of events? I think it would be much easier to locate that way...

I try to steal only the best ideas to share with you, just to make you appear that much more awesome. That's all.

Camillo will hustle to where Rullis is opening the door, just in case a foe chose to hide in a closet rather than face them in combat. Back to sword and shield in hand...
