Seth Varianna |

I forgot to post what Seth has on him. Will make an additional post for Seth in a few hours.

DM Goldstool |

Very pleased with everyone's update, should have something going up later tonight.
As for Vincent's holy symbol, I will provide more details for it in the post. Largely has it as it is a side-deity to Shelyn (who the High Priestess worships), has the favored weapon that Vincent uses, charm domain, matches/within one step of his alignment, and I'm a sucker for having "Romantic Tragedy" as being part of a God's portfolio.
In addition these things, it is also a reference to how he died in the first iteration of the campaign. One of the players pushed him off a boat, and he drowned trying to swim back to shore. He was then later revived by another player who was collecting bitter NPCs for later use against his party mates.

DM Goldstool |

Post incoming now, will give the go--ahead when it is all up.
EDIT: Posts all up, might be some last minute editing going on too, but all is good!
2x EDIT: Need to add spoilers for Halcyon's rolls, will be up before the editing window is down.
Edit III: All seems well now.

DM Goldstool |

Update coming most likely later tonight!
I've noticed that when I create NPC's on my master list for reserve NPCs, I always create them in expansion-like waves. First was the "Maniacs and Monsters" set, just winding down from a "Rising Sons of Greater Galatine", starting a "Gangs of Roland" one now.
If you are ever looking for a certain type/role/rival/friend NPC, I can always make one if I haven't already. Going at 110+ strong NPC's now, even got some of the Prison populated in case anyone ends up there.

Halcyon d'Orsay |

Yoiks! Looking forward to meeting some of this rogues gallery.

DM Goldstool |

There are actually an abnormal amount of rogues. Many socialite NPC's without special training or magic are rogues due to many skill points and social Rogue talents (Emile, Ellen, Alexander, Darius, Francis). Most all of them are some archetype however. The party is currently 1/4 of this one class, a quite literal gallery of rogues.
No one is Unchained yet, I mean to look at those rules soon. Fair game though, same with Vigilante. I'd like to read more on Occult Adventures before I open those doors though.

DM Goldstool |

God dang it Raphael and your strange, frequent natural 20s.
Post going up later today most likely, if not then Monday. If someone needs a pause from me to give their character an update, or would prefer I do it later in the day for such a case, I'm always willing to delay posting

Raphael Montefiore |

Clearly I'm blessed by Abadar. :) To be fair, you've rolled most of my 20s. :P

DM Goldstool |

AHHH! Hope all is alright! I will bot you if needed, and be as conservative in anything as I can. Tell us when all is well!

DM Goldstool |

Posting coming tomorrow, most likely in the early evening. Will try my best to phantom Marcus for a short while (charming and polite of course)

Halcyon d'Orsay |

I may not post until Saturday night or Sunday, due to a short trip.

DM Goldstool |

Update should be coming up tomorrow or late tonight. Want to give a wee bit more time for anyone elses reactions. Seems the party is nearing an end, I think I'm going to have to address pacing in future parties. Like, the closest thing we had to a time skip of any duration was five minutes during the scanning of items.
Still, above and beyond any hope I had to Player/NPC interactions.

Halcyon d'Orsay |

I will be away from the Internet for a camping trip. Should be posting again on Sunday afternoon or evening. For the next 4 weeks, I'll be working in the morning. I may post early in the morning (East Coast U.S.) and then not again until the afternoon (M-Th).

DM Goldstool |

Yup, yup, thanks for keeping me in the loop, shouldn't be an issue! Update will be coming later today, will continue posting with ace doppelganger Marcus Tamarobot unless Marcus Prime returns.

![]() |

And I should be good from now on,
And you did good job playing as me while I was away
You have exceed expectations for being the understudy for the part of Marcus
I would have done very little differently
(I would have made note of how he was slightly put off by someone being forced to reveal their appearance but would have made a bluff check to hide it)
I was thinking of proposing basically the same plan that he came up with to 'fix' it, but would have added a possibility of having a neutral third party to witness it to ensure that the soldier didn't just make up whatever he wanted to
But he didn't make any accusations so I guess that point was moot
I actually thought I posted this one myself, but it seems in my buissiness I forgot to hit "submit post"
I also mite have added a twist ending to the story like have a gnome in his pajamas have been the one to win the contest (and then reveal that he had cheated)
But even without it that post works quite well

Raphael Montefiore |

Still here. Work kicked my ass a bit last week and I'm feeling a bit sick today. Will post something in a bit. Sorry for the delay. :)

DM Goldstool |

I was actually going to put a little blurb about you watching the scene concerned, but it passed my mind in writing. Feel free to end the story, I enjoyed the Ghostwriting.
No worries Raph, real life always takes priorities. Rest up and make a hell of a return.

DM Goldstool |

Post coming later today. Marcus, if you post I will be ceasing my understudy activities.
@Raphael though also to everyone else, around 35 minutes it would take to reach Raph's spot on the map (1.8ish miles) when walking. I am going on be operating on ~3 minutes per "block" when walking with wider ones being six minutes. So from Emile to you I count 12, Raphael to Emile would be 5 (or 15 min. walk), Val to Emile 9, Emile to Halcyon ~15.
Each regular block size is around 0.15 miles long, going on a walk speed of 3mph means you can take twenty blocks an hour walking.
Hustling would change this time, as would horses and other modes of transportation. Horse galloping would take ~5 minutes to reach Seth's place.

Seth Varianna |

You meant Seth and not Raphael right?

DM Goldstool |

Ah yes, I did mean Seth. It is funny, I started double error reading my gameplay posts after I made a Seth/Raphael slip once. Now it appears the same for Discussion posts must be made.

Seth Varianna |

DM Goldstool |

You can always go grab them and say it all passed your mind in the moment.
We can make them basic stablemen and you can go tell them to grab the men now (5min to go, 5 mins to come back with a couple men + additional reinforcements by foot.)
We can just play it off and say it never happened as well, and it was just Lucia and you.
Also, when I do make a Varianna Merc NPC, any preferences for titles? NPC Varianna Company Soldier, NPC Varianna Mercenary, et cetera. Won't be bringing out named Mercs like Zihark unless you call for them.

Seth Varianna |

I like the Varianna Mercenary. Its just quick and easy. I am going to throw up a post in a second with Seth remembering the guys.

DM Goldstool |

Post should be up later today. Party is almost over, a walk home and we will be back to intersession and intermingling. I am surprised by the lack of screw ups thus far, but maybe someone will make some slips before the night is through. I've half expected someone to accidentally cast a necromancy spell or drop the ball on their hidden race.
Plan to give everyone an additional contact as the next in-game week starts, how useful they are depends on how you use them. Some will be people you've met so far, some more familiar than others, some not known at all.
Again, post should be up later tonight, but might extend till tomorrow in a worst case.

Raphael Montefiore |

I'll have a post tonight if you can hold off. :) At work now. Should be up around 6:30 PST. Mostly this will be conversing with Estelle, so maybe hold her update for last.

Raphael Montefiore |

A little later then I expected, but good to go. Thanks for waiting, DM Goldstool :)

DM Goldstool |

Update to the Design Doc, detailed below. I will later be adding Know. History check (a skill I've never used before!) for more details sometime in the future.
All six heroes are all long dead, and all but Roland himself produced an heir. While some of Durendal claim lineage to the heroes, there is little fact to back up most claims. Most of the Heroes’ blades have been retired from use, instead preserved as relics and artifacts. The blades Durendal, Courtain and Joyeuse all are kept by Durendal in it’s capital city. Murgleis has become a sword of ceremony amongst it’s region’s namesake. Flamberge is held by the descendants of Renaud himself, and serves as proof to their claim of being of hero's blood. Hauteclere was lost in the Continental War with Galatine, claimed by neither side after a bloody battle. It’s whereabouts are unknown despite the efforts of scrying and divination.

DM Goldstool |

Given the context of the previous post, my guesses:
1.) Acquire one of 6 artifacts. Would be a hell of a heist, each is at least a +5 weapon.
2.) Marry into Heroic bloodline
3.) Find heirs if a war goes on for morale?
Without context, no ideas.
I had purposely made all of the heroes dead for 200+ years so Resurrection wouldn't be possible unless the bodies were preserved magically. But if someone did have the means and the preserved bodies, a 15th to 20th level Paladin/Barbarian/Fighter/Rogue/Cleric/Cavalier could be pretty good for a war asset or contact.
Post maybe tonight, or definitely tomorrow.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

That's it, we should just make this game Payday 2 but in like a renaissance era. Seth can run a crime ring instead based around being a middle man in getting people who need crimes done, to people who can do said crimes. Its genius, and possibly quite lucrative.

![]() |

Find the missing one, Hauteclere, by funding expeditions to find it on foot, investigate possibilities of it being on the wild/anti magic land (eg fooling the a scrying and divination)
Even if I fail it'd be nice for publicity that I'm trying to find a lost piece of the nation's foundational history

Halcyon d'Orsay |

Would you put a link to the city map in the header? Thanks.

DM Goldstool |

Yup. Will do now. I am going to place the "Known locations" map in, followed by an NPC-less map.

Halcyon d'Orsay |

I'm open to anything, but it would be a nice change of pace to do something as a group, something that might involve some combat or clever use of spells. Getting a clue as to the location of a legendary sword could be one way to go.
Halcyon would be most motivated if there were something we could find that would help avert war rather than another weapon for fighting war, but she's patriotic enough to aid a the nation in a war, so long as it is a just war.

DM Goldstool |

I feel you Marcus: It's happened too many times to me that I try to do all my error checking/posting in google documents so I don't lose anything while I type.
@Seth: Artifact heists are certainly a possibility, get a whiff of where they are and it certainly is a thing that can be prepared. Relating to that...
@Raphael, aren't you trying to recover various family heirlooms and treasures? I can imagine some families not wanting to return them for mere wealth. We can actually make a list of heirlooms you'd like to recover and I can give them to various families/cities/traders.
@Hal, Pacing is an issue I will be dealing with in the future. I promise that 3 hours of game time will not translate to 9 months in the future. Things will speed up, and time will pass quicker in downtime. Maybe I'll do summaries of conversations to speed things up, not too sure, still consider myself a novice PBP GM.
Post likely up tomorrow.

Raphael Montefiore |

@Raphael, aren't you trying to recover various family heirlooms and treasures? I can imagine some families not wanting to return them for mere wealth. We can actually make a list of heirlooms you'd like to recover and I can give them to various families/cities/traders.
That's right. I figure that trying to recover those trinkets and also expanding the family business are my two biggest personal goals. The latter being the more important of them. :)

Raphael Montefiore |

Oi, looks like I'm going to have to type up a complicated paragraph about Raphael's views on social justice, personal responsibility, social complicity in poverty, etc. Woe is me! It's almost like I expected her reaction to Raphael's overblunt, non-nuanced condemnation of the thief. :P

Seth Varianna |

It would be one hell of a thousandth post.

DM Goldstool |

As the GM, I feel I am usually the one to play other people, though I can say it is nice to fall into someone's plan. Hopefully you'll feel the same way when it is done back to you, Raphael. And hopefully my plans aren't malicious. Hopefully.
;)

Raphael Montefiore |

So typing this up is going to take longer then I have right now, so I might have to settle for 1001. :) I'll get to it sometime tomorrow.

Raphael Montefiore |

Ended up stuck at work a lot later then I wanted and I'm going to be travelling this weekend so I had to pack. I'm exhausted and will have to reply later with more depth. :) Posting will be a little spotty over the weekend.

DM Goldstool |

No worries, I'll be looking forward to it whenever it comes up. Post'll be up later today.

DM Goldstool |

Two Things, three really but two are closely connected.
If there is little left business to take care of, we will likely be moving to the streets this next update. Keep in mind any closing words you'd like to say to any guests. The leaving party is currently: Valentina, Raphael, Marcus, Seth, Halcyon, Lucia, Estelle, Nishara.
Secondly: Valentina will no longer be joining us in the game and has opted out. I will be marking their character as inactive in a few short moments. If you read this Lein, know that I truly appreciated your posts, and will always wonder what the future for Valentina would have held.
Going off that is the third item. We have now had two players leave the game. We are at four, which I stand by is still a healthy number for a campaign. Which is why I bring up this last point as a question to you all. Shall we reopen recruitment for additional player(s)?
These pasts months (close to a year almost) I've learned much about DMing online. I've been able to articulate characters better than I've ever able to, weave together coherent plots, maintain some degree of NPCs each having some personality. I will improve pacing, that is my main goal for the future. How we carry on this game is very much a group centered activity, and I wish to involve everyone in the process as much as I can.

Halcyon d'Orsay |

I look forward to whatever comes next. Sorry to lose Valentina. I'm okay with adding more players or leaving things as they are. Might be good to have another fighter type if we're going to mix it up with combat at some point, but we could supplement our numbers with some of Seth's men and women mercenaries, if push comes to shove.
If anyone is looking to add another game to play, I'm currently recruiting for a Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path campaign.

DM Goldstool |

Post tomorrow: Do try to say your final words otherwise I'll be summarizing. The night doesn't end at the party!

Seth Varianna |

I was way ahead of you on that one. Seth said his final words to the people he wanted to have final words with. Also I didn't want to type out a large wall of text with Seth talking to like 6 or 7 people.
