GM Wilken |

You detect a Haunt in this room.
The books are in sorry shape, but a look through them reveals that they all cover various arts of necromancy and the creation of undeath. Worm-eaten and crumbling, they won’t stand up to much investigation.
The iron cages with the dead rats have a small symbol of a pig with a mouthful of lock picks peering at a keyhole. Under the pig is a guild sign that says “Pug’s Contraptions - Magnimar.”

Zelinda Petri |

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Zelinda is about to have a closer look at the book shelf when she notices movement out of the corner of her eye. She turns her head to the stained-glass window, and her eyes go wide. "Norm! Stay away from there! There's something wrong with it!"

Zelinda Petri |

"I think that there's some kind of spirit in there," she explains, drawing her own sword. "I saw it for only a moment. Something moving within."

Normornigan Pewterson |

K Arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Norm steps back
"I saw it too. Like that man is.....sneering at us"
He shudders as he peaks around Ansgar, a hand resting on Cliff for comfort

"This place is just wrong. Let's get outta of here." Cael says looking disturbed.
Can I try to make a knowledge local roll for more info on this Pug's Contraptions?

GM Wilken |

Zelinda walks to the center of the room and touches one of the books, then stands there for a second.

Zelinda Petri |

Zelinda looks around in surprise, unsure of what she just saw, she looks around the room, blinking as if to get something out of her eyes, then looks down at the book in her hand. "Wha.... what just happened?"

Normornigan Pewterson |

Norm looks a Zelinda with a puzzled look
"What do you mean? you've just been kind of standing there with that book. Did you see something weird again? I think we should get out of here, it doesn't feels right in here"
Worried, Norm moves towards the door next to the one they came from.

Zelinda Petri |

"I..." she stammers, "I literally just saw someone else's life flash before my eyes." She looks visibly shaken, but otherwise manages to compose herself and flips through the book in her hands to see if anything in it lines up with the visions she saw.

Ansgar Ercanbald |

Ansgar steps over to Zelinda and puts his hand on her shoulder. "That would be a bit much for anyone."
Pulling his hand back, Ansgar focuses for a moment and then casts detect magic, sweeping the detection cone around the room.

Caeldren Shoreman Kaijitsu |

"Are you ok? The cages, they're from a shop in Magnimar. Can't be too old. Someone has been doing stuff here at least relatively recently, like within the last decade or so."

Zelinda Petri |

Once she's had a moment to catch her breath, Zelinda goes into some details about the vision that she saw (See the spoiler above).
"Someone was experimenting on themselves, looking to prolong their life, while it doesn't seem to have ended on a positive note, it's unclear if her was successful."

GM Wilken |

Norm goes towards the next door, the door is made of solid iron and has a few patches of rust, it is locked and seems like would be very hard to break down.
Zelinda goes through the books, but they're in a sorry state and seem to cover something too complex.
Ansgar scans the room and concludes there are no magical auras in this room.

Normornigan Pewterson |

"Well, this one is locked. And looks pretty hard to break down, even for you, Ansgar. Unless we can find a key, we are left with going back down the way we came and trying the front door instead."

Caeldren Shoreman Kaijitsu |

"Well, I'm not as good at this as Quiary is, but I've learned a thing or two about opening locks. Sometimes when working as a caravan guard people would lose keys to their chests or the like, so I learned how to help get them open."
Cael then pulls out his new any-tool and after a bit of fiddling has a pick to try the lock with. He keeps at it pulling out the pick and twisting it into slightly different shapes as he tries to get the lock to open.
Taking 20 unless not allowed, for 27

GM Wilken |

Caeldren works the lock for quite a while, but it always seems like one or two pins don't click into place. After many tries, he concludes it would either take better tools or some different approach by a more practiced lockpicker to get the door open.

Caeldren Shoreman Kaijitsu |

Cael frowns, "Well, I guess Norm you're right, we're have to go around, maybe Quiary could get this thing open, but I can't."

Zelinda Petri |

Tucking the book away for further study, Zelinda steps up to the door with Cael. "We could always use more... forceful methods."

Ansgar Ercanbald |

"Forcing the door open would be loud, and drawing too much attention all at once would likely go badly for us." Ansgar says, "I suggest we turn back try the other staircase if we can't find a key for the door in here."
Ansgar will begin looking more thoroughly through the room anywhere a key might be hidden.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 Unless someone objects I am going to go through the room fairly thoroughly.

Zelinda Petri |

Zelinda pouts a little at Ansgar's denial, but ultimately agrees to his suggestion.

Normornigan Pewterson |

(can I aid Ansgar? if yes, I have a +10 perception, which is an automatick succes to aid another, giving him +4 (because of my halflig trait))

GM Wilken |

After a thorough search, you don't think there is any key in the room or anything of notice that's hidden.
Are going back down then back up the well?

Normornigan Pewterson |

I don't see any other option then that. The door in B36 was locked

Zelinda Petri |

Let's go! I'm sure Quiary is totally bored by now. :p

GM Wilken |

I'm assuming you go out of the well in usual marching order
You retreat back into the well and start your climb up. As Ansgar, who leads the way, finishes his climb, he sees that the ruined outbuilding is now infested with hundreds upon thousands of ravens. The birds are quietly perched above the stones, covering the entire building. Quiary seems to be gone.

Ansgar Ercanbald |

"Well... I really don't like the looks of that. Let's go look at the building again, but try not to anger the ravens." Ansgar will lead the way over if people agree.

Normornigan Pewterson |

Norm looks around after Quiary.
"Quiary is gone. Think the raven scared him off? No blood, so hopefully he's okay, right? I liked him, so I hope he is alright.
Norm looks around again with a worried look on his face, before slowly turning and following Ansgar.

Zelinda Petri |

Zelinda shivers at the sight of the bird-infested building. She follows the others, sword and shield at the ready. "I've got a baaaad feeling about this..."

Caeldren Shoreman Kaijitsu |

Cael gulps audibly, "What happens if the raven decide to attack us? I don't think I've ever seen so many ravens in one place before. Should we go back and let Blondie try the door her way?"
I'm up for either way, just noting that it is an option also, it's a nice flavorful way to note that this flock really makes Cael nervous.

Ansgar Ercanbald |

"If you're that worried we can avoid the out building and just go into the main one." Ansgar says looking over his shoulder at Cael, "But we should probably check it out."
With Zelinda and Norm coming along, Ansgar leads the way to the outbuilding, slowly approaching the ravens so as not to disturb them while they investigate.

Caeldren Shoreman Kaijitsu |

Cael follows Ansgar eyeing the birds nervously.

Normornigan Pewterson |

I assume that mage armor is still up on Cliff (CL 5, so 5 hours duration). If not, I'll cast it again

GM Wilken |

Just small clarification, the "outbuilding" is the ruins where the well you're coming from is inside of.
As you finish climbing out of the well the ravens start to get agitated, taking flight in what seems like a hurricane of black feathers ready to swallow you. A smell of rotten meat spread through the air and you remember you've fought a swarm of undead ravens on your way to Magnimar.

Ansgar looks around at the situation and readies his shield. So many crows... easier to strike many of them with the shield...
As he prepares to swing a though comes to him, These were undead beasts... and none of us are overly hurt right now...
Ansgar grabs his holy symbol and chants a prayer to Ragathiel.
