For five years, the faithful of Sandpoint have attended church in temporary structures erected after fire destroyed their previous temple, and while their new religious leader was helpful, kind, and wise, church wasn't the same. Now, the new cathedral is finally done. All that remains is for the Swallowtail Festival to renew the site's blessings from the gods and it will be as if the Sandpoint fire had never occurred.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------
The festival begins promptly on the Autumnal Equinox. Mayor Deverin delivers a warm welcome just befor Sheriff Hemolock takes the stage to caution safety before the festival gets carried away. The renowned Cyrdak Drokkus follows to tell a short story of the towns process in funding the construction, throwing a bit of promotion for the theater on the end. And finally, Father Zantus takes the stage. He thanks everyone for coming and declares the Swallowtail Festival officially underway.
Music commences and people begin to partake in numerous games, challenging each other for a years worth of bragging rights. Several performers walk the streets, gathering the attention of the young and the old alike.
At noon Father Zantus takes the stage again to recount the parable of how Desna fell to earth and was nursed back to health by a blind child, who which she transformed into an immortal butterfly as a reward for her aid. He commences his speech with the release of 1000 butterflies. The crowd cheers as children chase them everywhere.
By evening the crowd has grow to near 100. As the sun begins to set Zantus takes the stage once again, this time to officially consecrate the new temple. He clears his throat and pulls a thunderstone from his pocket. He slams it to the ground to get the crowds attention, but at that moment goblins storm the town! From under wagons and in between buildings they pour, lighting fires and shedding blood as they plunder.
The group of unconnected adventurers jumps to action, killing near a dozen goblins in town square alone. A moment to evaluate the situation permits notice to a scream here and there in the distance and a bit of smoke in the air. Father Zantus does his best to heal those who defended town square and the new temple, when suddenly they hear barking and a grown man call for help to the north...
jimibones83 |
Just this one time to get things going in the new thread, I'm going to assume Father Zantus was able to heal everyone to full and all the group members rushed to aid the man calling for help.
You arrive just in time to see a goblin commando deal the killing blow to the mans hunting dog with his horsechopper. As the dog crashes to the ground, the three cowering goblins cheer. As they turn their attention to the dogs master, you have time surprise them.

Kus-Kus |
Kus-Kus isn't quite sure what that old preacher was up to, getting him back on his feet and closing up those wounds... but he wasn't going to argue. His first instinct was to take off, now that he was better, but... he didn't want the old man's favor hanging over him. Guilt was leaving a great big whole open in one's defenses.
Hearing the scream and snarling, Kus-Kus pointed up at Father Zantus, looking rather unhappy. "This one time, old man. One. Time. You get a freebie." As he left, he retrieved the spear he'd thrown and missed with earlier. Those things were hard to make, darn it!
Rushing forward, eyes trained on the commando, he snarls at the others. "The little buggers are cowards! Break their leader, and they'll scatter!" Which is what he planned to do, daringly taking on the commando lizard-to-goblin as he rushed into the fray. "Pay back time, you snot bag!"
Moving 5 spaces right and 5 spaces up with a Shortspear drawn.

Narvolo will circle around to the South avoiding the goblin head on [a 30' movement to avoid threatened squares: SE (5), S(5), E(5), E(5), NE(10) for 30 total] to arrive at a flank position. Narvolo says, "I have come to crush you." He swings DOOM BRINGER over his head onto the goblin (goblin 1 obviously).

Where is Grip on the map anyway?
jimibones83 |
Narvolo crushes his attacker while Kerak does the same.
@Kerak whoops, forgot about the lil guy. He's on there now.
Whoops, I just realized I went with some of my goblins out of turn. I'm use to taking all of my actions at once at home. Sorry guys, I'll try to pay attention.

Kus-Kus |
Kus-Kus was not having the best luck today. Snarling as he weaves away from the blade and it's owner, getting nicked on his shoulder, the kobold turned and chucked his spear back at the commando. Then, as he came back up, in one swift move he drew his little longsword once more. Hopefully, he'd have better luck this time.
Taking a 5 foot step northwest and using a standard action to attack the goblin with my shortspear. Also using Quick Draw to draw my longsword.

After Narvolo deals the final blow to the goblin commando, the man walks over to express gratitude to his saviors.
"Thank you all so much for your help. It's upsetting that they took my dog from me, but if not for you all I may have just as well shared his fate. My name is Aldern Foxglove." Aldern reaches out to shake Narvolo's hand and continues, "You'r skill in combat is quite commendable. I'm staying over at the Rusty Dragon on the south side of town. I'll be here for a few days. Perhaps if you all get the chance you'd be willing to swing by so that we could talk some more. I'd like the chance to reward you for the bravery you displayed here today"
With that the man picks up his dog and carries him off.
Narvolo |
Narvolo brief rage fades, and Narvolo takes a few deep breaths to regain his composure. He shakes Aldern's hand. "Narvolo meet you lada at dragon. Reward is good."
Narvolo looks around at some of the folks who have been fighting beside him. "Hail! Narvolo thanks for helping Narvolo crush puny green things. We take der stuff and drink to gods and whores to celebrate."
Narvolo greets his companions, and then will also look to strip the dead of anything worth selling.
Kerak, the Crab King |
Kerak peels a bloody hand from his axe and offers it to the man. "Greetings. You are a fearsome fighter sir. Enough to shake up even Grip!" Kerak says as he indicates the nearby crab. "I am Kerak, and this is my pet crab. I call him Grip."

Nicolae "Nic" Plamen |
Looking to his fellow combat comrades, I too am now to be staying at the Rusty Dragon. Perhaps once this "invasion" is all then settled down, we can one another meet there for a meal and to get to know one another, yeh. Myself, I am Nicolae Plamen, but for comrades in arms, you may call me Nic.
Narvolo |
"Nice to meet ya. My name Narvolo. You may call me Narvolo."
jimibones83 |
As you make your way to the Rusty Dragon you see quite a bit of damage and at least a dozen dead bodies, most of which are goblins but a couple townsfolk as well. When you reach the pub Ameiko informs you that indeed Aldern has a room rented but that he's not there right now. She brings you all a pint on the house.
I'm going to let you guys sit for a moment to get to know one another, then I'll push the story along. Nothin like a battle and a brew to bond a party of strangers for a long term save the world campaign:)
Kus-Kus |
"Oh yeah, that's fine. Take all the credit! Big guy who can swing a hammer that's smarter than him is the big brave hero, but the little dragon who's outsized by goblins he fought is just the side order!" Kus-Kus muttered and grumbled under his breath all the way back to the inn. He seemed much more pleased to see Ameiko however, and even more so at the free drink.
"Kus-Kus, if you cared. Hunter, tracker, guide, goblin smacker, take your pick. I do it all around here. I have to; I'm the only competent one at it..." He said, downing his drink in one shot and slamming it to the table. "So fancy-pants stays here, huh? Odd... whatever, if he's giving rewards, I am not complaining the least. My question is: how'd those little buggers get so close into town like that... they hang around the junkdrop at night, but they've never been scaled enough to get this close..."
Narvolo |
So, can we pull the dog slicers and the armor off the goblins or not? If so, how many can we get?
"Narvolo no swing hamma. Narvolo swing da DOOM BRINGA. Green puny dings splat on da DOOM BRINGA. Make big mess."
Nicolae "Nic" Plamen |
Nic looks around at the others, getting a feel for them. As the two warriors start to "compare swords", Nic hopes to stall a confrontation between the Shoanti and kobold, so he continues with the conversation, in stilted Taldan (common). Please to be making your acquaintances little drake, doom master Shoanti nodding to both. As you may tell from my manner of dress, I am a Varisian, of the great city of Magnimar. My caravan left me here just this morning. I have come to this fine town to study the Thassilonian ruins here, the beacon as it were. While I am a craftsman of oils and tinctures by trade, where my passion lies is in ancient history, and the lost powers of the distant past. I hope to learn much here before moving on, maybe even to be making a few coins before doing so, yeh? Maybe either of you can guide me to a few lost ruins in the area, if and when you will have time, da. Turning to the others, And how about it are the rest of you, are you from here, ja.
"I wonder, does Narvolo mean the doom bringer in Shoanti. Hmmm, doubt it would be wise to ask him."
Eleazar Wheelock |
Eleazar glances at the bounty board for any interesting jobs. Eleazar never one to turn down a free drink takes a gulp.
Hmm the little guy does have a point maybe I should talk to the Sheriff and see if he is willing to hire me to investigate this invasion. Should probably ask this lot if they want to help, they seem capable enough.
"Kus-Kus you bring up a good point. Perhaps we should speak with the Sheriff to see if he would be willing to hire us to investigate."
After hearing Nic's job proposal "hmm two potential jobs. This day is turning out pretty well for me. Sure Goblin invasion ruined the festival but it brought quite few opportunities and free drinks are always nice.
Eleazar turns to Nic "I could offer my services as well as my blades for small fee or share of valuables found."
Kus-Kus |
I think their armor would only fit me. And dogslicers suck! Mangy little tools. Just like their makers. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SICK BURN!!!
"Narvolo must learn to speak in 1st person!" Kus-Kus replied, point a clawed finger at the barbarian. "And big talk for a guy who outsizes the little numbskulls!"
Narvolo |
"Narvolo is first person. First person to fight."
I'll get to work creating the excel file.
jimibones83 |
As you all get acquainted, Ameiko comes over to express a heartfelt thank you. "Well, I bumped into Father Zantus shortly after we got things under control. He credits the lot of ya quite a bit for defending the city and the new temlle. On the behalf of Sandpoint I'd like to thank you. I certainly couldn't have killed them all, so we got pretty lucky, having some genuine heroes in attendance. You are all welcome to stay here for the week at no cost."
Kerak, the Crab King |
Once Kerak has his drink, he sets about finishing his introduction. The large grisly man takes no pause to dry his beard before speaking.
"I am Kerak, the Crab King. Grip and I guard the waterfront, but we come to town now and then for spears!" he says as he rattles a leather case of a few spears. "Cold iron, they are. Always seem to be losing them in some sea creature's hide."
-Posted with Wayfinder
Narvolo |
Narvolo is halfway paying attention, eating with his bare hands, stuffing food down his throat and drinking. He hears Kerak talking and replies, "See creatures hide? Dey always hide from Narvolo. Specaly da puny uns." Narvolo belches one of those loud, ringing burps.
Turning to Ameiko, Narvolo complains, "What we do fur week? Dat da reward? Stay here? Narvolo need more drink. Dat reward suck."
Nicolae "Nic" Plamen |
Perhaps Narvolo, says Nic, a slightly quesy look on his face from watching the beach comber and Shoanti "dine", It should be there will be better rewards if we can find out where the goblins got it into their bulbous heads to attack the town at the moment of the celebration. He glances around to the others, nodding to Eleazar, the only one likely it seems to be a reasonable and rational sort. If we aid the town and Miss Ameiko with their troubles, Kus-Kus and Kerak win favor with their neighbors, we outsiders pocket a few coins, yeh, gesturing to Eleazar, and perhaps you Narvolo will find women more ready to ply you with other fares, those for which you seem to be seeking, ja.
"It seems even in Sandpoint I find myself with the oddlots, whether Travelers or those just as shunned and outside the 'norm', neg."
Nic would like to keep one of the whips, if that is ok. Can't use it without penalty but it might come in handy.
