Nia nods. "I could stand to take a break too. But there's two sets of stairs down, Vidar. The other one is right next to the chief's throne room. We could try to trap one of the sets of stairs and block the one we want to use."

Could we use Disable Device in reverse to set up traps? Even something simple like something noisy on a string to warn us if someone comes up the stairs would be helpful.

Disable Device won't do it; you need Craft (traps) or a class ability (like the trapper ranger). Incidentally, how many of you have rations and bedding with you? I don't imagine that you'd want to use what the goblins have.

There's enough miscellaneous garbage in the stockade to block the doors to the stairs. The party sets a watch overnight, in case someone tries to come up from below (or if the goblins return with reinforcements), but nothing disturbs your slumber.

Garrick stretches with a yawn, then reattaches his breastplate. He pauses for a moment, mentally probing the newfound magic unlocked in his blood, This is both like and unlike my feygift.... Still, not the time to start experimenting....

He takes up his axe and shield, then moves his arms and legs to make sure everything was seated correctly before saying, "Well, I think we've explored everything above ground, so it's time to go under. Thinkin' they must be expecting something, so we'd best be on our toes. I'd go first, but I'm thinking there might be a load of traps."

Yeah, Nia has rations from her Investigator's kit. I'll mark 1 off.

Crafting stuff:
She can use downtime to casually work on Crafting, so I'll go ahead and roll as she works on making new Alchemist's Fire. Since Craft is a per week thing and she only gets half credit for crafting while adventuring she won't be able to actually make anything during a rest period but she can start on it. She'll use a Crafter's Fortune extract before making the check.

Craft:Alchemy check, DC 20 for Alchemist's Fire: 1d20 + 12 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 12 + 5 = 27
Check result (27) x DC (20) = 540 SP/7 days per week = 77 SP

Nia spent some of their resting time mixing powders and sublimating tiny crystals and swirling vials as she attempted to replenish her supply of alchemical weaponry.

When the others started getting ready, she nodded at Garrick and stood up, checking her gear to make sure it was all securely stowed. "I wouldn't trust goblins not to constantly set off anything really tricky, but I'll keep a look out for traps."

I have you spending just enough time to sleep, eat, and do whatever magical preparations are necessary to recharge spell slots. Unless Nia wants to skip some sleep, there isn't time for any other activities.

It's not a big deal since crafting while adventuring isn't particularly useful and takes forever, but if people have enough time to sleep and regain spells the rules allow for partial crafting, hence only getting 2 hours of credit instead of a full day. It's not dedicated time, "but rather during lunch, morning preparation, and during watches at night." So it really reflects her just tinkering with stuff throughout the day, not having to sit down and spend 4 straight hours working on stuff.

Again, not a big deal if you don't want to let her craft in situations like this, it's just that I think the rules allow for it.

It's in the magic item creation rules, paragraph 7 near the end of the first section right before Cooperative Crafting. The crafting rules are frustratingly split among a few pages.

I don't see anything in that section of the Core Rulebook that applies those rules to mundane crafting, though.

Sure, it doesn't say you can do that explicitly but most people read it as applying to mundane crafting as well. If you don't want it to, that's fine too. Like I said, crafting on the road is slow anyway even with this rule.

I don't think it's appropriate. They're two completely different processes--the time unit is different, the cash value produced per unit time is way different, and the rules for speeding up the process are different. I've never seen anyone mix them like that. OTOH, my longest-running campaign involves no crafting, and by number most of the games I've played have been PFS.

So what is the party going to do?

It's up to you, DM, and road crafting isn't that big a deal. I'd probably try to convince you more if we were in one of those APs where you have weeks or months on the road or a boat but in this one we don't have that much downtime in the field so I'm not losing much in the way of crafting time.
