DM Carbide |
The party returns to the stairway and descends, Garrick in the lead. The dwarf estimates a descent of around twelve feet before the steps end in an intersection between two narrow hallways. The rubble on the floor around the hallway to the left suggests that the passage had until recently been bricked up.
Vidar Ekstrand |
"Hmmph, from what we have observed so far, it would not be impossible to believe the goblins somehow gained access to this place through the left passage, only to collapse it behind them through sheer stupidity!"
DM Carbide |
The passage is open; the rubble is mostly to the sides.
DM Carbide |
Ilryan can tell that the recently-opened passage bends after ten feet or so, and that the other passage widens ahead.
Ilryan North |
"Let's take the widening path. I have a feeling that rubble-strew passage might be how the goblins came in."
Garrick Oakbeard |
Garrick nods, "Aye, that's likely but I can't imagine they got here by accident. But we need to save Ameiko before we worry about backtracking the vermin."
DM Carbide |
The corridor bends and opens into a wider area devoted to storage. Two wheelbarrows sit against one wall, along with several open bins of clean sand, a closed bin, and a couple of barrels filled with broken glass. A narrow passage branches off to one side.
Ilryan North |
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Unless he sees anything of interest, Ilryan will continue down the passage.
DM Carbide |
There's nothing apparent of interest, and the oracle doesn't even hear anything other than the party's movement.
Looking down the narrow passage, Ilryan sees a couple of doors before the passage turns back in the general direction the party came from. There is rubble on the floor in the corner.
DM Carbide |
Choices: two doors, the corner, and the branch where you came in. Where to?
Garrick Oakbeard |
Garrick looks around the floor, trying to find tracks that would lead to Ameiko.
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Ok, well, thinking that's not a success..
DM Carbide |
Garrick finds no interpretable tracks.
DM Carbide |
The room revealed is another storage area, this one for finished glass goods such as windows and glassware. It's likely that the goblins haven't been here, as they wouldn't have been able to resist breaking things.
DM Carbide |
Ilryan finds that the next door is locked.
As Denialan approaches to examine the door (I presume), the elf's keen ears pick out the faint sound of agitated goblins coming from somewhere in the direction of the other two doors around the corner.
Garrick Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Ilryan Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Vidar Perception (add +2 if familiar is close): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Denialan Salarei |
"Goblins are nearby," Denialan whispers as his elvish ears catch the faint sounds from afar, "something is of bother to them."
He points towards the two doors and makes a quick gesture with his head, asking his allies whether they should investigate.
Garrick Oakbeard |
Garrick smiles grimly, "Aye, and soon they'll be even more bothered...", raising his axe and moving toward the door.
DM Carbide |
The party advances down the hall. Once closer to the doors, Garrick can tell that the noise is coming from behind the far door.
DM Carbide |
Going through the far door?
Garrick Oakbeard |
Ok, looks like my post about pointing and moving towards the door got eaten. Apologies.
Garrick points to the far door with his axe, then hustles toward it. He stops at the threshold, looking at each of his companions, and mouthing silently, 'Ready?'
DM Carbide |
Garrick opens the door, revealing a small stone chamber with a tunnel leading away to the north. Goblin voices echo from some distance down the tunnel.
Denialan Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Garrick Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Ilryan Initiative: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Vidar Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Goblin Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Other Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Another random roll: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Garrick Oakbeard |
Garrick whispers, "Another bloody tunnel. That's not good. Anyone speak goblin?"
DM Carbide |
It's worth pointing out, here, that the voices seem to be getting louder.
Garrick Oakbeard |
Garrick says, "They're coming, make ready."
GM - do we think based on volume, that we could make it to the (far) crates to hide behind, or should we just try to use the corner for our ambush?
DM Carbide |
I've updated the map to show something closer to your current positions, which may change your proposed actions.
DM Carbide |
Is that the plan?
Garrick Oakbeard |
Can we tell what direction the door opens? Do we see hinges? If it opens inward, then yes, attacking from each side when the door opens. If it swings outward (toward us), then we'll all go on the other side -- but, ultimately, yes, the plan is to jump 'em as soon as they come out... unless we hear something that changes that.
DM Carbide |
The door opens towards the hallway, and you have in fact already opened it--you can hear the goblins from down the narrow tunnel off of the room behind the door.
Garrick Oakbeard |
Right, sorry. Ok then, I think this may be a "change of plans, chhaaarge.." sort of thing, then.
DM Carbide |
So going to head down the tunnel and try to meet the goblins there?
Garrick Oakbeard |
Yup. As fast as my short dwarven legs can manage
DM Carbide |
As you're forming up to head down the tunnel, Vidar (the last one into the chamber) hears something extremely disturbing: the door next to the one you've gone through is opening.
Round 1:
Initiative order
Ilryan
Enemies
Garrick
Denialan
Vidar
Ilryan can act!
DM Carbide |
I should point out here that Ilryan has just left your wizard with no one between him and an unknown quantity behind the party.
Vidar Ekstrand |
Well, this is just absolutely lovely...
Drawing his dagger, Vidar hurries to get to Garricks side, if there was fighting, he'd much rather have the sturdy dwarf between himself and the unknown danger.
DM Carbide |
Unfortunately, Vidar, the enemies act before you--that's why I'm giving Ilryan a chance to reconsider.
Ilryan North |
Okay, if I heard the door and the goblins are still distant, I'll cast bless and move toward the now-open door.
DM Carbide |
Round 1 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Ilryan-acted
Enemies-acted
Garrick
Denialan
Vidar
Ilryan, there is a half-elf in the doorway, who bears a familial resemblance to both Ameiko and Lonjiku. On seeing you he does not hesitate, but punches at you twice. You dodge the first blow, but he catches you with the second for 5 HP. At the same time, a pair of goblins round the curve and spy Garrick. They scream and run back the way they came from.
Garrick, Denialan, and Vidar can act!
Fist: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Fist damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Garrick Oakbeard |
Is Garrick aware of the half-elf? (does Ilryan cry out?)
