A local festival, what could possibly go wrong?

From what I'm seeing, the -4 AC penalty is offset some what by the fact that the target can't move. Still haven't found if a miss could hit Darius or not.

Male Human Rogue 1

He is -4 AC + he loses his dex bonus to ac. If you miss you do not harm your ally.

Sorry, the last thing Darius posted was "Darius should be by the stunned goblins as well. He is merely watching the trying to look menacing." I got confuzzled.

Actually, the last thing I posted before the attack was at post 402:

"Darius nods and charges the goblin, attempting to tackle the beast."

But I'm good with whatever.

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

I think we're all ok. Although if Weylyn could keep sapping the other two goblins into unconsciousness that would be awesome.

Male Human Rogue 1

*grin*

I think it works out like so: The Rider has a normal AC of 17 (10 ,+3(dex),+3(studded Leather), +1(small size)). Because he's grappled, his AC is now 14. And because he's in close melee (technically) with Darius, whoever strikes will have a -4 to-hit modifier against the goblin. Effectively a -1 mod compared to him normally.

Whatever you all do, luck will hopefully be on your side.

And if any of you are wondering, yes, you will get XP for capturing the goblins as well as killing them or chasing them off. :)

Yes, I will indeed implement the Hero Points rules after this scene. :/

Shadow Lodge

I would respectfully disagree.

The grappled condition states that you take a -4 penalty to Dex. That would bring the Goblin's AC down to 15.

However, the goblin is also prone which imparts a -4 to AC. That brings the goblin's AC to 11.

There is no penalty in the rules for hitting an opponent that is being grappled by an ally, at least not to my knowledge. If you'd like to impart one, that is, of course, your perogative as GM.

If anything, though, I think the attacker should get a +1 to attack for being on higher ground than the goblin.

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

Is that a -4 modifier to ranged attacks or all attacks? I'm making an effort to not be an annoying rules lawyer here, (because I know I can be, and I'm working on it) but I've never heard of a negative attack modifier for melee against a grappled character before.

Shadow Lodge

Prone is a -4 AC against melee attacks. It's actually a +4 AC against ranged.

@DSP: I don't see any reference to the grappled being at a -4 to dex under the combat maneuver section and I have the latest printing PDF. That being said, I "do" see a -4 to AC and denial of Dex bonus if the target is pinned under AC modifiers. I'll go ahead and say that Darius has the goblin pinned for purposes of melee attacks. This brings the goblin's effective AC to 10. hopefully no-one rolls a 9 or less :)

@Weylyn: The ranged attack penalty of -4 still counts here as the firer is trying to not hit his ally.

Shadow Lodge

If a ranged attack is trying to hit the goblin while grappled, yes there is a -4 penalty unless the shooter has precise shot.

I thought we we talking about hitting the gobo in melee. In that case, there is no penalty.

The grappled target keeps his dex to AC until he is pinned. right now the gobo has the grappled condition. that imparts a -4 penalty to DEX which results in a -2 AC. Now add the fact that he's prone and he takes an additional -4 to AC against melee attacks.

So, In melee, he's at AC 11.

Against a ranged attack he's at AC 19.

If he becomes pinned, he'll be melee AC 10, ranged AC 14.

I must say, this is the most amazing confrontation against a goblin I have seen in many years. Afterwards, we should certainly do something to commemorate such a worthy foe. Clearly it's that this is some kind of super-goblin, not poor dice rolls, right? Right?

Male Human Rogue 1

I know right?

Little bugger won't just roll over...

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

Super-Goblin! Maybe Gellius will go all Casey at the Bat on him.

Hmmm... Super Goblin... (scribbles some notes)

There was ease in Gellius's manner as he stepped into his place;
There was pride in Gellius's bearing and a smile on Gellius's face.
And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat,
No stranger in the crowd could doubt 'twas Gellius at the bat.

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

Just as long as it's not a Nilbog. Lol.

Also, in reference to the previous discussion on attacking a grappled creature...

/me coughs

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

That's not a goblin, that's an ogre...

Has anyone heard from Lost Gamer / Gellius? He hasn't posted in any of our threads since Thursday.

Male Human Paladin/1

Nope

A quick look around shows he hasnt posted anywhere since sat morning, and most threads since thursday. Hope he's ok.

Should we just have gellius take a cut at the gobbo and keep it moving?

Not yet. I'll give him another day.

As busy as I've been been during this holiday season (and none of it holiday related), I'm actually surprised more of you all aren't posting more intermittently. I expected it to slow down around this time, though I was hoping to have been done with this scene by now so you all can make any desired changes and the like.

Yeah, he was super active, and its not like he is just ignoring us, lol.

Honestly, I'm pretty free until the 26th, at which point I'll be completely out of internet range for almost a week. Until then, regular like my... well... yeah. lol

@Lost Gamer: If you can't/don't make your move by, say, 5pm PST, I'll go ahead and have Gellius take a swipe at the pinned goblin with his staff and have Faux guard the goblins just waking up. At at current AC of 10, Gellius has an even chance of hitting. :)

OK, with the exception of any Role-Playing, this scene is officially over.

Father Zantus heals all of you to full health.

If anyone needs/wants to make adjustments to their characters characters can go ahead and do so. Core and APG are allowed, anything not in those books, but can be found in the SRD requires approval, (basically me reading the rules to get an understanding of what it is and if it's reasonable, "should" have no problem).

Hero points rules are now in full effect. You all now have 1 hero point to start with.

I'll tally up everything and give you the XP total soon. I roughly estimate that you'll be close to the halfway mark to 2nd level. :)

Alright. Did some editing on Oded. Oded magically summons a new coat of chainmail and a shield appears on one arm, and a smaller axe in the other.

lol

I used max gp (for fighters, 5d6x10=300). Other than that, very light changes. Toughness as a feat, less wisdom (why did I have a ton of wisdom??) that covers it. Lemme know if everything's cool.

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

Ok, so lets make a list of all the loot we got so far:

Potion of Cure Light Wounds
Undetermined vial from the Sandpoint Glassworks
Small Sized Bow & Arrows
Small Sized pole-arm (type undetermined)
16 goblin daggers
30g, 15s, 30c (some of this is from the same place as the vial)

Did the goblins have any armor? Maybe we can sell it if they did, although, I'm not sure how much goblin scraps go for...

So, I'll take ten on Appraise and get a 16

Also, I swapped out Berenwyr's favored class hit point for one more skill point, and put it into Craft (Alchemy) as we discussed.

With the exception of the rider all the goblins were wearing patchwork leather armor. might get a couple coppers "if" anyone was willing to buy them.

The Rider was wear a studded leather version of the same.

@weylyn. The goblin knives are the equivalent of daggers, but made from scrap metal. Holes were cut in the blades, perhaps to make them lighter.

The pole arm is small-sized and remarkably well built. Basically, it's a small halberd.

OK, with the role-playing in the morning and the whole combat, (plus something extra for creativity during the same), you all each earn 716 XP.

Not bad for what amounts to barely 1.5 game days. :)

@Dragonshade: What is your character's sister's name, btw?

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

Hey Sweep, what speed level advancement are we using?

Mid-speed. In game time, at this rate, you might hit 2nd in a few more days. In real-time, it'll take awhile. Though we're getting faster each time.

Anyone seen Lost Gamer around yet? I'm thinking he's putting a rediculous amount of overtime to either have a very nice Christmas or is trying to clear his workload so he can enjoy some time off.

I went and just looked through the threads he GMs, and he hasnt posted in about a week. :-/

Well, I'm going to be gone the week after xmas with uncertain internet access, and I think Volty said he'd be in a similar situation. I say we play on until then, and get back to it in January. If LG/Gellius hasn't raised his head by the 26th I say we either play on without or open recruiting up for one more. Hopefully that will give him enough time to get back, or maybe he will even see the recruitment thread.

Yep. I wont be around for the week after Christmas (cruise, woot) unless I decide to pay an arm and a leg for dial-up quality internet access.

Sounds like a good plan. We can just assume, until then, he'll hang out w/ the party?

I was going to put the game on hold soon anyways as I'm getting ready to move and I'm not sure exactly when I get my internet back up and running. So take a break starting on Christmas for two week or so?

I'll hope it's less than two weeks, but hey, whenever you're ready.

Male Human Paladin/1

Do you think we should stop here? Is this a good spot? Would hate to get in the middle of something and then stop for 2 weeks.

Not right now, no. Take a break starting at Christmas, sure.

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

Ok, I think we're all heading over to the Rusty Dragon, right?

Male Human Rogue 1

yessir.

OK. If all goes as scheduled, I should have my internet up and running a day after I move into my new apartment on the 2nd. So when the game goes on hiatus starting on the 24th of December, I'll be able restart it on the 3rd or 4th of January.

Hopefully, Lost Gamer will be back and posting by then. Don't want to farm out his seat just yet as I'm pretty sure he's just been too busy during work and the holidays to post, (definitely know how that is).

The time left before hiatus will pretty much be an extended scene at the bar. So eat, drink, merry-be and have fun with the character development.

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

I'm cool with Rping for the next four days. Maybe we can get some conversation in with the sheriff too.

Sounds good to me too. Although I'm curious to see where this Weylyn thing goes.

Sczarni

Male Human

Lol. Me too.

Sorry, having a brain cramp on what to say in-game.

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have a great holiday.

Sczarni

Male Human

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Merry Christmas all. Sorry I couldn't post as often as I would've liked, pre-holiday madness gripped the house and I was too busy.

So today begins the hiatus. Should pick back up on the 3rd/4th of January. Hope to hear from you all then and we'll get Lost Gamer back.
