Male Human Paladin/1

My home games have been map heavy for several years now, as well. Just take some getting used to not having one. :>)

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

Maybe Weylyn/DSP can give us all a quick tutorial on how to make the maps he uses. Maps are nice, but we can get by without. Although, I think the last time I played a no map game, it was 2E D&D.

Oh yeah, Sweeper, I wanted to ask what sort of a roll do you want me to use so my character can figure out that the singer is a bard and is buffing the other goblins?

Spellcraft to identify the bardsong? Knowledge(Nature) to know that goblins use bards? Maybe Knowledge(Arcana)? Anyway, let me know so I can do it after Weylyn rolls initiative.

I'll have to look it up to be sure, but I'm leaning towards Spellcraft.

Male Human Rogue 1

If the GM, or someone else, creates a googledoc spreadsheet, you can then create borders, shading, etc. to create the map. You can also insert our avatar images from paizo's site that are then movable so we can track our movements around the map.

It's pretty easy, but you do have to redo it each time there's a new map. This is why the GM should do it. Otherwise, he'll have to send it whoever is making the map, then they enter all the info.

hmm... Naw, I wont worry about it unless it really needs to be done.

The goblin strikes at Oded... Swing, and a miss.

Caladrian throws a stone... Oh! Just a bit outside.

Darius steps up, he swings, and its back, waaaay back! Holy moley, the Pope excommunicates him!

I cant help thinking as a baseball announcer after that...

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

I literally laughed out loud at my desk at work when I read Sweeper's baseball analogy yesterday.

Ha! Nice rolls Volty!

No kidding. Last skirmish I couldnt get anything. This time...

I was waiting for the...

Quote:
One goblin is engaging Oded. 3 more are about 25' away from Oded's position, and the singer has a bow out.

3 more goblins to join the fight. But re-reading it looks like two of them got color sprayed?? I didn't think they were close enough. And Berenwyr had color spray a different group.

I think for small quick combats a map isn't needed. If we get into something with a lot of combatants then maybe.

I will volunteer to do a Start of Combat Map. We post one map of where everyone is to start and then we just keep track by referring back, and plotting where they have moved during the rounds. Everyone would need to post there location as they move.

Hey Sweeper, are you going to answer Volty's question in the game thread?

Give him some time. while we wait, any ideas on strategy? I wanna save the Guy, but I'm concerned you two might eat it. hence the questions. ;) suggestions? oded is headstrong but not an idiot. plans?

Well, as far as strategery goes, I think Gellius has the goblin dog taken care of for another minute as it only got a 12 on it's will save and base for G is a 13 on a 1st level spell. Hopefully guy will get himself out of there before the goblin can get to him.

I'd say the melee types should focus on the group of 5 goblins. I'm including Caladrian in that because he has a 14 str, so with +2 to hit and +3 to damage with his quarterstaff, he should be able to provide a good assist as he and I are both out of spells.
I've got three more acid darts that I can try to hit the mounted goblin with.

After that, I can assume total defense and try to set up some more flanks for Weylyn. I am a little bit concerned with the two goblins that we left alive and untied, but we've got another 5 rounds before they're combat effective, so hopefully we can take care of the others before they get back into the fight.

If things get hairy, I think Caladrian might be able to maneuver himself into a position where he can channel heal our guys but leave the goblins out of the area of effect, but that probably requires us forming a battle line and not letting them get enmeshed with us.

I think this fight is really going to depend on the dice. We are all out of buffs. So, we'll have to see what happens.

Agreed about the other two. I wish we had had time to tie them up. But, them's the breaks. Alrighty. Oded will help out with the band o' baddies. I think our two reluctant heros still have something to offer melee wise. I'm hoping this will be the last of the immediate battles, but I just dont know. Also hoping there will be a chance to heal not reliant on our own party's skills. But we'll see. :)

Sorry about that, folks. I have back to back classes Thursday afternoons.

I'm glad you all are starting to talk tactics. Was getting worried there for a bit. :)

Wait, so charging in without any help into a group of five goblins is a bad idea? No wai!

Lol. Leeeeeroooy Jenkiiins!

You all aren't doing that badly, actually. You all are still alive after all. :)

Male Human Paladin/1

Question...would the protection from evil still be on? If so, it would negate the -2 for charging.

Elf Wizard (Conjuration) 4/ Hp: 32/32 Init: +5; Perception +11(+13); AC 13(17)/13/10(14); F+2, R+4, W+5; CMD: 16

It expired at the start of this round by my count. But the -2 is only for one round. Bummer, that goblin negated 5 of the 7 points of your last heal. Do you want me to bring you the potion of cure light wounds on my next turn?

@Volty: We shall see... The Sports commentary is slightly adapted from an unsent Humor article I was writing up for ADB's Captain's Log a few years back.

For serious, thanks for keeping my char alive, lol. I stick him in the middle of things, hoping he'll soak up the damage, but relying on you guys for healing.

[edit]And by you guys, I mean Caladrian, lol. At this point, I think I'd be dead, and Darius would be approaching that fate.

That's part of the beauty at starting at 1st level. The reckless lack of strategies and rushing in heedless of danger and the quick reminder of your own fragile state. These are the formative days when we learn to bond as a group and develop our unique tactics. First go is always going to be a fiasco, and it's sweet.

Dragon, you said it! Now, let's see if I can burn the town down...

Seriously though, if you want to talk spell selection/tactics I'd be open to it. Between the two of us we should be able to keep the party buffed and the enemy discombobulated if we put our heads together. Also, if I ever get the chance to rest, Berenwyr is going to scribe the hell out of some scrolls.

@PSM: We're just about done with this scene, so you'll get your chance. And like I said before, I'll allow a one-time readjustment of your charatcers before we move on.

@All: And on that note, I am going to implement the Hero Point rules after this scene is finished. Y'all could certainly use them. ;)

Male Dwarf Fighter - 1

The more I think about Oded, the more I think that he should be arranged slightly differently. I like having him be the anchor as it fits with how I imagine his personality to be. And running in with a big axe is cool, but doesnt allow any protection, lol. How would you feel about futsing with the weapons, armor and maybe a trait? This would be the only time I'd alter him from here on out.

I also understand if its too late. :)

@Volty: See above statement.

I gotcha. I just wanted to see what you would and would not allow. :)

Oded,

Switch to a dwarven waraxe. You get a d10 for damage and you can wield it in one hand or two as a marial weapon becuase you're a dwarf.

Just pick up a shield and use as needed :P

You could also swap your dex and wisdom scores for a +1 AC bump. Your perception would only be +1 then, but the difference between +1 and +2 isn't all that much. Isn't perception a class skill for you? If so, I would also make sure I had as many ranks as hit dice in that one. Literally the most important skill in the game.

Oh, and Darius' quick draw shield is awesome. Get one of those.

Edit: Last but not least, which goblin is chanting? Oded already killed the singer.

Was wondering that, myself. :)

Male Human Paladin/1

I'm sorry to say, but I'm kind of at a lose as to what is left to slay. Anyone?

I believe there is still a goblin on foot who just attacked me, along with the mounted one.

Yup, two goblins left. What will, you do?

Male Human Rogue 1

Ah geez...

I'm sorry guys. I got lost as to what was happening. I'll just throw my darts at the closest goblin.

Game's still going on, folks. But we just had our 1st major freeze so we're trying to make sure the well pump doesn't seize up, (again) and our plumbing doesn't burst (again). I'll post what the mounted goblin does in a bit.

no worries. I think we all know rl gets in the way sometimes. thanks for the heads up.

he mount, which has yet to be ID'd, or confirmed calmed as the druid hasn't responded to the GM about it,( KN: nature to tell what it is and did a will save of 12 beat your Calm animal DC, Gellius?). The rider hops off the mount and takes up it's nasty looking pole-arm.

Missed this twice? Wondering how, could be I come back from work and you all have a dozen posts up and I read it but forgot about it trying to take my turn. Sorry bout all that.

I put a link of the spell in the actions. Will try and do this for you as much as possible and give you a DC - but calm animals doesn't allow for a DC so long as you beat the Hit Dice of the animal(s) your trying to calm. How do you think Gellius got to be such a good vet? LOL

Now I remember why I didn't roll an ID that first time. It didn't allow me to go back and edit (like it won't now). As I don't wish to mes up the combat order, it is working really well btw.

Rolling ID here and now - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Again sorry for the missing all that.

No, worries, it's actually working out with the grease keeping it in one place. And yes, it is a goblin dog.

Hey Sweeper, I've been thinking about the whole alchemy thing you brought up, and while I don't think I want to switch classes to Alchemist, I might like to drop my favored class hit point to put a skill rank into Craft(Alchemy). The Adventurer's Armory has some interesting alchemical items and ways of using them as spell components / focuses to enhance spells.
So, I'm wondering if you'd be open to allowing Beren to start crafting alchemical items and using them with spells as described in that book. Thanks for letting me know.

Male Human Paladin/1

I will be traveling today picking my son up from college. I will try to post later today, after 5:00 est.

What is the Adventurer's Armory and do I have to buy it?

Hey Sweep, the Adventurer's Armory is a Paizo created official Pathfinder supplement. Most of the stuff in it is legal for organized play. You do not have to buy it if you send me an e-mail at psychicmachinery at hot male dawt calm. However, if you want to buy it, the .PDF is probably pretty cheap on this website.

I'll give it a qualified no to the stuff in the Armory book for the time being. I'm trying to keep the book-creep to manageable levels and I'm not that good with the PF rule-set yet. As the game goes on, I should have no problems adding it, like, say, you all get to a city where the items would more likely be available.

Fair enough. Assuming I could get access to a regular or portable alchemist's lab, I could still try to craft the stuff in the core rulebook and APG though, right?

P.s., as I check the SRD, it looks like most if not all of the equipment from Adventurer's Armory made it into the APG. I'm not sure if the optional rules did through. I'll check when I get home later tonight.

Then there's the whole "dirt-poor adventurers" deal you all have going on atm. :)

Huh... It looks like paizo put a word count minimum on the forums.

I'm thinking we all need to be more specific in whom is engaging whom. I'll start tagging the mooks a bit more specificly. And you all need to be specific in who you're attacking so confusion like this doesn't happen (as often).

Sorry, the last thing Darius posted was "Darius should be by the stunned goblins as well. He is merely watching the trying to look menacing." I got confuzzled.

On another note, whats the deal with attacking someone currently being grappled?

Here is a description of the Grappled condition. But I'm curious too if Gellius and Oded can just attack the goblin while Darius holds it. I don't know of any reason why they couldn't, but Sweeper is of course the final authority on it.

Thats what I figured. A nice axe to the back while they take a penalty to AC sounds good to me. Hell, maybe Gellius could manage to hit it this time. ;)
