GM DevilDoc |

Andrezi.. very good point. I will have to go back and find that entry in the book and make sure I transcribed it correctly!! Great catch!
Edit: You have the right of it, I transcribed it incorrectly which led to me getting the wrong price into the spreadsheet. I will fix that along with the edits suggested above. Thank you to everyone for looking that over with me!

GM DevilDoc |

OK.. so here's what I have been thinking. Despite the strength of the spell Volkar fell under, I believe that the bonding and friendship that yall have between the characters would be enough that he would be hard pressed to watch his friends struggle for their lives while standing helplessly by. I am willing to grant Volkar another saving throw vs the spell if yall so desire, and will allow the rest of you to aid him on this attempt through RP and a will save of your own

Daelric Morieth |

So ... are we still leaving the room or should I just go in and hope to end the fight quickly?

GM DevilDoc |

I have been having computer troubles, and this is the first time I have been able to log in since this weekend on the work computers. I do apologize for this interruption. If I am a player, please bot me until I can establish a permanent connection, and if I am the GM, I will be back just as quickly as I can. I have made progress with the software, but will be tearing apart the hardware tonight

GM DevilDoc |

I have updated and brought everything on the spreadsheet together. Barring anyone claiming any last minute items, you will all receive about 3,600 gp when this is all sold off. You may go ahead and begin leveling your characters up.. the end of this book brings you to level 4.
Speaking of which, there are a few items in the list that I feel I would be remiss if I didn't point out specifically. The last of these is the Ring that yall just found. I really don't think you want to sell it, but then at this point, you haven't had time to post and claim it..
There are two cloaks of resistance +1 that could help yall, as well as some of the +1 weapons and armor. Anyways, I will give yall a chance to sort out the ring, and if no one has claimed anything else, it will all be sold off and parted up here shortly.
Not that yall really play Society, but.. I have reported the game and will be working on the chronicles as soon as I get a free few moments. I do want to thank you for taking the time to register if you were not already, and allowing me to take advantage of the GM boons associated with this!!
The next book has a bit more RP in it, and can have a really gritty horror flick theme to it. I think it rather fitting to be hitting this at this point in the year, and look forward to bringing this about for yall.
Now that we have finished this book and are returning to town, I wanted to test the waters here.. what do yall think about bringing in one or maybe two other characters to flesh out the party skills and abilities? If this is something yall would like, then I am thinking either invite only or select recruitment decided on by you.. Yalls game, so you get to choose who you play with!!
Anyways, This concludes the first book, Rise of the Runelords: Burnt Offerings with 2,236 posts over 45 forum pages and One year, Ten months, and 17 days.

GM DevilDoc |

Sorry to hold things up. I was robbed Monday night at work and have been dealing with everything. I am fine and whole.. just a tad bit messed up.

Volkar Glanral |

Good flipping lord. Wow, sorry to hear that DD - glad to hear that you are ok...but wow, do what you need to do.

GM DevilDoc |

Thanks man. I tell you, if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any at all!!!
Its always been like this.. I am the exact opposite of the axiom of falling through a sewer and coming out smelling like roses: I walk through a rose field and come out smelling like the sewer!! But at least I am healthy and not trying to heal any new holes!!

Kiera Videns |

Level 4 wizard (exploiter)
+1 Intelligence
+1 BAB
+1 Will saves
+6 hit points (4 hit die, +1 Con, +1 favored class)
+10 skill ranks (2 wizard, +4 int, +1 fast learner, +1 human, +2 background): +2 Disable Device, +1 each to Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (local), Perception, Spellcraft, Survival, Craft (alchemy), Knowledge (history), Linguistics
New language: Giant
Spells learned (2nd level): burst of radiance, pilfering hand
~~~~~~~~~~
I'm fine with whoever wants the cloaks of resistance getting them. I can make them, at a cost of 1 day and 500 gp each for +1 cloaks, so everyone in the party should have one if we have the time and money.
I bought two ranks of Disable Device, which is probably not enough to really hit a lot of trap DCs, but I would like to keep the masterwork thieves' tools because you never know! Since nobody in the group can do disabling well I am gonna half-ass it. :)
We can sell the scrolls of sleep and comprehend languages, or I can hang onto them - either way. I'd like to copy the minor image scroll into my spellbook, if that's cool with everyone.
The armor is all basically useless to us and we should sell all of it, unless we want to keep Orik in the party and give him the +1 breastplate.
GM DevilDoc |
Keeping Orik in the party is not something that I had considered.. if it is something that everyone agrees on, I imagine that I can work something out and NPC him, or yall can take turns running him.
What do the rest of you think?
Keep in mind that the RP is going to be pretty important if you want convince him. *speaking of which.. I think I left his a$$ back on thistletop.* We can have him chilling in the common room with a drink awaiting his payment!
Kiera Videns |
I wouldn't really consider Orik "reliable" so I'm happy to pay him and let him go on his way.
At some future date maybe I will get a leadership-like feat to get a sidekick who can disable devices, but maybe not! I have plenty of feats that I already want. :)
Daelric Morieth |
I just want to say again that I am loving playing this game with you all. The roleplay is really fun and the way it is being run is amazing. I look forward to completing the rest of the adventure with all of you.
My level up :
Stat Increase : Constitution
HP Increase : 11+3
Save Increase : Fort, Will +1
Skill Increase : All existing +1
Abilities : Defensive Stance, Earth Channel.
Defensive Stance ability to be decided. I don't mind if others take the cloaks, my saves are quite good as they are, and can wait for the next one.
Andrezi Zeldana |
While I wasn't planning on doing so originally, I wouldn't be opposed to taking unchained rogue as my 4th level if we want somebody to be a trap finder/disabler. It wouldn't be terribly out of character for Andrezi to go down that path, on the other hand it would delay his CPE getting to 3d6 until 6th level instead of 5th.
That being said, I'm perfectly happy to continue down the cleric path too.
Thoughts?
Daelric Morieth |
Which would be the better fit for Andrezi? While the trap disarming could be useful, so can the healing. Do you feel that the group can survive that extra level with the lower healing; if so and it feels like a natural progression for Andrezi, then I say go for the Rogue.
Kiera Videns |
Losing spell progression is always risky. I took a little bit of Disable Device because a little is better than none; also, with my new pilfering hand spell, I can use it at range.
Just taking one level of rogue is also rough because you can backfill your Disable Device when you take it, but after that you're committed to capping your DD skill every level if you want to keep up.
I'm going to 20 Int at level 8, which will give me more skill ranks, which means I should be able to have DD capped at that point. If I pick up a feat along the way I can get DD turned into a class skill, if it matters.
Most importantly, though, DD is optional. As we saw in the dungeon we just finished, you can usually figure out a way past a trap. And I can get magical ways to deal with magical traps (erase spell vs. symbol, for instance). But you can't "fake" having the next higher level of cleric spells.
Daelric Morieth |
I think Kiera makes a very good point.
So ... I have just spent an hour filling in Defensive Stance into my profile ... SO ANNOYING! In the defense and offense tabs, anything with a bold bracket is when I am in my defensive stance. Thankfully I only had to fill it in this one time, although changing them every level will get very annoying very quickly.
Andrezi Zeldana |
Sounds like level 4 of cleric is the way to go.
Stat Increase: Charisma
HP Increase: 5 + 2
Skills: 2 + 1 INT + 1 Human + 1 Favored Class = 5 skills + 2 Background
(Diplomacy, Heal, Sense Motive, Knowledge (Planes), Knowledge (Religion) + Knowledge (Geography), Profession (Fortune-Teller))
+1 BAB
+1 Fortitude and Will
Volkar Glanral |
Ok, I will work on the leveling up.
Orik, I would say a reoccuring NPC might be helpful at times for everyone, but if others could be brought in, that would be helpful.
GM DevilDoc |
Andrezi: I have to agree with the others on the rogue dip. We can easily bring in an NPC or do something else that won't leave you really cursing that one level dip later on down the line. I am reminded of my -1 character that I started before I really knew Pathfinder Rules.. also before the advanced classes were released. I started him as a ranger, then took a level of rogue at lvl 4. Really put his entire progression behind, and he went from a fairly capable forester to a middling jack of all but can't do anything particularly well. He is lvl 9 now, and honestly I have been wondering for some time if it was worth it to pay the rebuild price.
Daelric: Thank you Sir! And thank you for the effort you put into separating out your stats for the defensive stance. Just as a side note, your background got sucked into the spoiler for your defensive stance.
Kiera: Looks great. Any your are right about the DD.. if anyone can afford to spend a few extra skill points it would be you, and as you say, your spells can do a lot that lockpicks cannot!
Volkar et al: If yall would like a recurring person/type to pop in and out, just let me know. Otherwise, it will be under your own power! You can go in search of a thief type should you need him, and I can have him waiting in the wings.
All: So what I am getting out of this is that Orik needs to go, sell the cloaks of resistance, and move the game along. Am I correct?
Kiera Videns |
If Orik wants to hang out in Sandpoint I'm not gonna stop him, but he got a nice payday so he doesn't really have to come with us. And he's really mercenary, I don't know that I'd trust him if someone gave him a better offer - that's how we got him to flip in the first place!
I thought we needed to distribute the cloaks of resistance to various people? Or were those extras and everyone already has some?
Daelric Morieth |
Thanks for spotting the background spoiler malfunction.
I thought we were keeping the cloaks a d giving them to Volkar and Andrezi? If neither of them want one, then I will grab it, if Kiera doesn't want it.
Another thing to sell would be the +1 Longsword, I doubt I will use it again. So could help out financially.
GM DevilDoc |
I keep asking, but I have not seen where anyone actually said they were going to take them. I could have missed that, however..
Already have that on the sell list!
Also, don't forget that you need to identify the ring and figure out what you are going to do with it too.
Just looked over the loot tracker and updated it. I caught several mistakes in calculating the magical armor and weapons, so your totals are up a bit. I did not, however, include the ring and the cloaks in these totals.
Kiera Videns |
Give the cloaks to Volkar and Andrezi. We keep talking about it, let's just do it!
Next time we have 1,000 gold and 2 days I will make two more cloaks to cover myself and Daelric.
GM DevilDoc |
Good to go. Check the edit at the tail of my last post as well! Tracker is updated to provide 3,629 gp/ player
Kiera Videns |
Ok, I added 3,629 to my existing wealth (I had a little over 1k from the last payout).
Are we gonna have a few days of downtime in Sandpoint, or will we be moving immediately to the next crisis?
GM DevilDoc |
Especially as we just spent the better part of a year slogging through one dungeon to the next, I figured that I would give yall some time to recuperate and relax a bit. We can do whatever you wish from here, and when things slow down or you tell me yall are ready, I can hook in the next adventure.
Daelric Morieth |
That is more than enough for me to buy Daelric his Full Plate Armour :) At that price I may even be able to get a magical version, as there is little point in me getting Adamantine as I doubt it would stack with my existing Adamantine damage reduction.
I say a couple days of downtime before heading on. Now to look through the Ultimate Equipment to find what I want to do with this money. I have 5666 GP!!! I have a couple of things that I think could be a nice little added benefit, and would like everyone's opinions.
+1 Fire-Forged Steel Full Plate (Fire Resistance 2) : 5500 GP
Or
+1 Living Steel Full Plate : 4150 GP
I could also try to get Daelric's fathers War-Axe made out of Living Steel and make it Masterwork ... but that would remove the essence of it being returned to his father one day.
Andrezi Zeldana |
Cash is good. :)
I noticed that the ring of force shield was not liquidated. I think Volkar and his limited AC should take that item.
I'll have to think about what to spend some of that cash on. Tempted to blow it all on a stat boosting item, but I think it might be better served to spread out among a number of items.
Kiera Videns |
@Daelric: You're right that DR from different sources doesn't stack, so adamantine plate is not as useful to you.
@Andrezi: If you want a headband of inspired wisdom I can make that for you at half price - 2k and 4 days for the +2 version.
Kiera Videns |
Great! Since I don't have the owl's wisdom spell, it's DC 18 (base 5, +8 for the item's base caster level, +5 for not having the pre-requisite spell). Taking 10 on Spellcraft nets me a 21, and is allowed for item creation, so there's no chance of failure.
GM DevilDoc |
No, I did not liquidate the ring. It would have greatly increased your personal take, but yall haven't identified it yet and I figured that once you did, it would be used rather than sold.
Daelric: Personally, I would say go for the fire forged steel. The only real benefit that I can see from the living steel is a fort save for the weapon if the attack is a nat one. Seems a lot to pay for such a situational and rare issue.. and its not even guaranteed then!
Only problem: Sandpoint will not be able to provide you with this armor. Its city class (small) has neither the resources nor the "bank" (800gp max) to fund such a purchase. However, I believe that we will be able to get that taken care of here shortly if you so desire. ;-)
I didn't bother with this when selling everything off because I wanted you to have the money asap, (even though the entire town assets are only listed at 49,000 gp.. I guess technically you own about half the town..) but I can't see how such a small town would end up with enough of such an expensive materiel to make a full suit of plate. Maybe you can send off to Magnimar to have it made there??
Andrezi and Kiera: I am good with that set up, and you will have time for it.
Volkar: When you get a chance, could you update your stats please? You're the only one I haven't looked over yet.
GM DevilDoc |
Here are the chronicles should you be interested in applying them to an active character. Once again, Thank you for taking the time to register so that I could get credit for running this!!
Daelric Morieth |
The thing about Living Steel, is the self repairing nature, which means I wouldn't have to worry about it being destroyed. Although the Fire / Frost Forged Steels are very Dwarven. Just not sure whether a resistance bonus of 2 will help that much. I was thinking of trying to put in an order to a local city where it could be made and have it delivered, not sure how much extra that would cost though.
Ummm ... Chronicles? Chronicle sheet? Help!
GM DevilDoc |
Lol! In society play, you are issued a Chronicle sheet for each adventure that you play. This lists a standardized amount of gold you earned, tracks your experience, prestige, and fame, as well as allows for special items not normally available to your character to be purchased.
This is not a society game, but yall allowed me to register it for society credit, so I could apply the rewards to one of my society characters, as well as receive society GM credit. If you don't play Pathfinder Society, just disregard.. but I am required to hand those out since the game was registered for credit.
If you want more information about Society play and about how it works, we can PM to keep from cluttering up the discussion thread. Basically, Society play is a lot more rigid and has a lot more rules, but the advantage of it is that I can take a character from one table/group/GM to another with no variation of rules or rewards. The games are much shorter than adventure paths, and you play one scenario or module at a time instead of one continuous arc like what we are doing here.
Re: Armor: Send off to Magnimar. The rest will be taken care of!
Kiera Videns |
Ok, so I need 6 days of downtime before our next adventure: :)
* 1 day for a +1 cloak of resistance for me (500 gp)
* 1 day for a +1 cloak of resistance for Daelric (500 gp) - this gets embroidered with the holy symbol of Kols on the upper back
* 4 days for a +2 headband of inspired wisdom for Andrezi (2k gp)
Don't forget to knock off the gp for these from your personal stash.
Daelric, if at some point you want a +2 belt of giant strength, I can also do that with 4 days and 2k gold.
Lastly, looking to buy some scrolls again:
Scroll: See Invisibility Availability (>25 is available): 1d100 ⇒ 25
Scroll: Shield Availability (>25 is available): 1d100 ⇒ 44
So that costs me 25 gp for the shield scroll and 10 gp to transcribe it into my spellbook.
Andrezi Zeldana |
2100 gp deducted from Andrezi's cash. 2000 for the headband and 100 for Orik/Volkar.
While we're sending off to Magnimar for Daelric's armor, would it be okay for me to request a +1 chainshirt from there as well?
Otherwise, I think the only purchases that Andrezi needs are 3 scrolls of Magic Weapon (75 gp)
GM DevilDoc |
Thanks Volkar! I will look everything over after a while.
Kiera: Looks great to me, and I think we can manage the six days of down time. Shield would almost certainly be available, and I will leave it to your dice about the see invisibility.
Andrezi: Magic Weapon should be easily attainable at the Cathedral. Since you're sending off for the one, I don't see why yours can't be included as well.
Andrezi Zeldana |
Ok.
-1,250 gp for +1 Chainshirt
-75 gp for 3 x Scroll of Magic Weapon
+125 gp for sale of existing MW Chainshirt
--------------------------
= -1,200 gp total
Daelric Morieth |
Keira, that is something to look at for the future. Although I think much later on I would upgrade to a Strength and Constitution belt, as Daelric's primary role is the tank.
I won't be able to pay for the Cloak right now, so will have to wait a bit for that, as after selling my Scale Mail I have 5691, after buying the Fire/Frost Forged Armour and paying Orik I have 108.
Do people think I should go with the 2 Fire Resistance or the 2 Frost Resistance? I'm not sure what would come up more often. Thoughts?
GM DevilDoc |
...spoilers omitted...
Both. In the long run, they are both going to be a problem.
Daelric Morieth |
Going to go with the Fire Forged Steel, it makes more sense for a Dwarf to be protected against fire than frost.
Kiera Videns |
Ok, I'll pay for your cloak out of pocket, and I can pick up some extra treasure later (or if we find another cloak we can just sell it to cover the cost). And that lets me make it a surprise present for Daelric ICly. :)
Daelric Morieth |
If you are sure, that would be great. I will be getting the armour designed to look very fancy and ornate. With a glowing symbol of Kols emblazoned on the front, as the armour is Fire Forged I can imagine the symbol glowing like a flame.
Kols symbol is a lizard perched on a scroll (which I discovered after an hour of searching). But there is no actual image anywhere, so I I thinking I will make it a tribal styled lizard, like this.
GM DevilDoc |
Kiera would have either identified the ring or taken it to someone who could by now.
What are we going to do with it?
a ring of force shield. When activated, the shieldlike pane of force generated manifests as a seven-pointed star—the Sihedron rune
