I can now see why the majority of folks don't like Summoner(Synthesist). Man that class is really powerful. A +9 Natural AC is nasty.
And I see that Angelo has a +12 NA. Man that class truly is way super powered.
I know nothing about them so I don't get it how any of it works.
@Jeska: Cool! I was just going through feats to see what to replace it with, 'cause I figured no one is probably gonna use it. But If you're sure, bud, then I'll keep it! I don't like teamwork feats at all because I just don't think they're any good, but I sure like Outflank. It's quite the handy. Just ask Malak Jaedoom, hey Stiehls9? :)
I like Amplified Rage, Outflank, Target of Opportunity, and Precise Strike. Depends on building with someone else (usually someone filling a very similar role), but they can definitely make a difference! Two barbarian half orcs doesn't happen often, but Amplified Rage is definitely worth taking in that case. (And even works with Outflank!)

Jeska and Rost, we're just waiting on you guys to join us in the gameplay section before we get thing rolling.
To All:
I've had an idea for a follow up to this game where the set up is the complete opposite. We take the same crew of players, but this time have a 10 point buy, single class, core races, and the only classes available are the NPC classes, Aristocrat, Adept, Expert, and Warrior. With them we try to tackle a level equivalent module, say 2nd or 3rd level.
We make it an RP intensive game where out thinking the challenges is completely necessary, as we're not heroes or champions, but just local folk trying to save our own town, businesses, and farms.

Re: Fly skill: Hmmm... I completely forgot about that. I will shift over my ranks in Knowledge(Religion) to Fly, giving me a comfortable +19, so I can automatically do anything.
I might be interested in the 'other game' suggested...
...I think I could make an interesting Aristocrat :-)
Angelo Fortunato |
I've found this picture of a somewhat gangster looking norse nobleman who I've wanted to make into a character/NPC for a long while now. Perhaps Raven and I could be rival nobles :P

I'm so excited that this game is up and running. This is going be tough though. Stats on that thing are pretty intimidating and this is only the first fight.
Rigor Rictus |
It's having a lot of trouble with our AC's though, so we'll have to see...
Rotann is doing a lot of damage, but that is going to make him the priority target. Seeing as the eye-blast wasn't super effective, his next attack will probably be the turn to stone beam, and we'll have to see if I can survive that.
Angelo Fortunato |
New game I'm trying to get going if any of you are interested. Please tell anyone else you know on here who would be down.
Rigor Rictus |
Looks like fun, though I am pretty unfamiliar with ultra high level play, and I don't really know the first thing about taking on an elder dragon in this setting. I may give it a go though. I saw your Kill my sythesist thread as well, and it looked like those guys would have used a dragon to rip you a new one in ways I never would have anticipated.
Rigor Rictus |
XP from the Retriever was 3200 a piece. Likewise for the Evocation trap. I'm following the school of thought that all challenges are group challenges, even if one player does most of the rolling. This places us about halfway between level 6 and level 7
Total: 29400 XP
Required for Level 7: 35000 XP
Level 6: 23000

I tell you, I'm glad Angelo has Disable Device. I was thinking that of all these gestalt pc's and all the different classes everyone took, no one took rogue.
After looking at everyone else's character, I got to Jelani's last and noticed he took Ninja. Boy I was like, "Whew! That was close."
Angelo Fortunato |
And trapper ranger, since ninjas don't actually get trapfinding. I built Angelo to be able to deal with every conceivable situation a PC could face, and be able to handle it as best he could for a level 6 PC.
Rigor Rictus |
XP to 32600/35000
Angelo, it might work best, since we're going for a down and dirty approach here, to have you make 4 more disable device checks, and we'll skip things ahead to the one(s) that fails. I'll provide a description of what was there for the sake of the narrative. Make it 5 checks, since this group is the type to complete all the traps, even the one we don't need, just to prove how awesome we are. I'll assume that they're done in order. If they are all completed successfully, we'll just gloss over them, and cut to where we enter the Hall of Wards.
Abjuration
Divination
Enchantment
Illusion
Necromancy

Hehe. I totally just did that without reading this post first. Great minds think alike. I'll go edit in a fifth one though. Forgot enchantment.

It was an nigh-impossible task. However, with the use of hero-points, I generally consider the expenditure of two points for a Cheat Death enough to survive a given battle, and not just the affect that put you down. Otherwise, all the area of effect spells and such that are an issue at this level would ensure that no one survived if they dropped.
Unless there is a specific Coup de grâce or something.
Rigor Rictus |
If you would like, I certainly can. However, I was expecting deaths, and so built extra options into the module of how a character might be brought back, or how new characters can be brought in, even though it is a competition. For instance, I added in the Hooded character in the introduction, assuming that he would be someone's character after their first was killed.
However, if you'd still like out, I will change your status as you choose.
Rigor Rictus |
Rost - As I said, I will allow you to have survived the battle via the Cheat Death hero point ability. If however you would like to try a different build, you are welcome to introduce one. There was a mysterious party at the introduction, draped in a black cloak that may have been a new character. Let me know.
All - XP total for all of the Traps was 20266, bringing the party to 43266. Required for level 7 was 35000 meaning you may now level yourself up. The next level is 8, requiring 53000
Please check in and let me know your decisions, and when you are leveled to level 7.

In addition, Darnak had the following equipment:
Oil of invisibility(x1), Potion of cure moderate wounds(x2), Potion of Mage Armor (CL 3)(x3), Potion of shield of faith +2(x6), Potion of shield of faith +3(x3), Potion of spider climb(x2);
Other Gear Belt of physical might (Dex & Con +2), Bracers of armor +2, Cloak of resistance +2, Eyes of the eagle, Guided Amulet of mighty fists, Headband of inspired wisdom +2, Ring of feather falling, Backpack, masterwork (20 @ 19 lbs), Dwarven trail rations (x10), Waterskin, 29 GP
This will need to be divided up.
Rotann |
Finished my level up.
For my 1 Evolution point I took Skilled: Perception, which puts me at +26 to Perception, or 36 taking ten. This should allow me to take Darnak's place as Spotter. He has Bracers of the Falcon, so he has no need of Darnak's Eyes of the Eagle. Raven or Jenska want to claim them? Angelo already has something in his eyes slot.
I have an interest in Darnak's Belt of Physical Might to replace my Belt of Dexterity +2, but if it benifits anyone else as well as it does me, I don't strictly need it. I could use the Headband of Wisdom, but so could all the Monk dip characters, I wager. The bracers of armour are of no use to me, and I already have a +2 cloak.
The potions should just get divided up evenly I think.
Rotann |
My feat was Weapon Focus. I've been hitting pretty well, but that -4 to attacks for not using a light weapon really hurts. Every little bit helps.
For my second class I took a dip into Urban Barbarian. Allows me a +4 to dex (Attack, Damage, Initiative, and AC bonuses) for 9 rounds a day. And as a morale bonus, it stacks with Cat's Grace or a belt of dexterity.
Angelo Fortunato |
Leveled up. Do we get our new spells, since we won't have time to rest?
I took improved initiative and reach with my slam, so both attacks have reach now.
Rost'Nomn Azahithael |
@ Rigor Rictus - Appreciate the use of Hero Points for battle survival. Glad he just got a another one in case its necessary again. I'll continue on with this build though. We knew it would be tough so if he doesn't make then that's ok.
The only item of Darnak's that Rost could use is the Eyes of the Eagle and the potions. But if the Eyes would benefit someone else more than he has no problem letting them have it.
Level 7/7
+1 BAB
Oracle - Wings of Darkness
Mighty Godling - Light Conduit
Feat - Extra Channel
6 ranks in Fly
Picking spells now...

I approve of the spell Swearing Light, Rost - does it burn targets with blistering invectives? ;-)
I have just finished a 16 hour shift, so I need to sleep, but in the morning, I will post updates to Raven - He will undoubtedly take Summoner/Fighter, though.

The way I'll work it with anything that increased is that you will change you totals, and them minus off anything that has already been used. Given that we don't have any prepared casters, that should work fine.
Raven Hawthorne |
*Finally* ready.
Interested in the Eyes of the Eagle, and the Shield of Faith potions.
