So I was looking at my damage, and I think it was wrong before.
Both my bite and slam are primary natural weapons. Bite does 1.5xstr because I put the extra point into it.
So bite should be 1d6+12 str+6 power attack, slam should be 1d8+8 str+4 power attack. Right?
Angelo Fortunato |
I dunno, but it was f*cked somehow. I think I just made a typo at some point. The slam's to-hit was too low, and the damage like a point too high.

Raven: I was trying to figure out what your Fortitude bonus would be in your Half-Elven form, and it looks as though it should be a +13. However, I couldn't account for where the other +10 comes from when in your synthesist form. Could you break it down for me; I must be missing something.
Fort: Con 14 (+2), Class Bonuses (+5), Charisma Bonus (+6)
What am I overlooking?
Edit: Just noticed that all your multi-classing would bump it up a bit, to the tune of +3. That's still only a +16 out of the +23 listed, so I must still be missing something.
Re-Edit: Cloak of protection +2; 18/23
Raven Hawthorne |
Actually, the class bonuses are a bit higher than that, when you stack the levels in the right order to maximise saving throws (Fighter/Paladin/Fighter/Paladin/Barbarian/Fighter (gaining bonus from Summoner this level)/Monk)
Fort +2
Class bonuses +11
Charisma +6
Cloak +2
Shielded Meld +2
When not fused, that becomes +21

The total experience for the encounters so far bring each surviving team member up to a total of 45720 XP. Level 9 is 46000. In order to avoid having you level up again after a single encounter, I will allow everyone to level themselves up from level 7 to level 9 now.
Please post your character changes here.

@Rotann: Unless I am missing something, 7th level Eidolon is 6HD, 9th level Eidolon is 7HD - so why have you gained 2HD worth of temp hp?
I would certainly be happy to have a few more temp hp :-D
Rotann |
I'm tempted to grow another set of arms... technically with quickdraw he could move his guns to another set of hands and fire again with multi-weapon fighting, but I always found that to be cheezy. It's a game mechanic loophole with no real basis in reality.

No, you are right. I forgot that eidolons do not follow the regular level/hit-dice curve. I was wondering why i had only 6d10 listed for my THP before and assumed I'd forgot to up it last level. I was in a hurry and didn't review the rules closely. Thanks for the correction.

I'll be out of town for a couple of days; taking my family to see the dinosaur museum in the Alberta Badlands. They have quite a good fossil collection with all the usual favorites, like T-Rex and Allosaurus, though Triceratops definitely seem to have been one of the predominant species in the area, so they have about 20 different versions of Ceratopsians, and not as many of the big sauropods. If you're ever in Western Canada, it's worth checking out, though I don't know how it compares to the big American natural history museums. Its major claim to fame is that almost all the dino's on exhibit were found locally, as Alberta is one of the richest fossil sites in the world, probably rivaled only by Mongolia.
As for the game, I will try to update when I get back, but it may be Monday before I get into the swing of things again.

The defeat of those monsters brings the Experience Point total for each member up to 68120 XP. Now looking through the tables, it appears I was out to lunch before, and I have no idea where I was getting the values from, as they do not line up with the ones I see now at all. I had 46000 listed as the amount needed for level 9, when in fact the amount needed for level 8 should be 51000. Don't know what table I was looking at before that gave me that incorrect value, but whatever it was, it was apparently wrong. Level 9 should be 75000, and level 10 105000. In other words, we will not be leveling up again for a while. I will leave us all at level 9, though by rights we should apparently still be level 7 just levelling up to level 8. Sorry about that; robbed you of a tougher game experience. I'll make it up to you in the next battle, I promise.

Well, this is essentially the end of the module. There is a bit left in the potential for investigation as to the cause of this calamity, were the players to wish to engage in it, but there is no obligation to do so, and little opportunity for conflict through uncovering the mystery.
I suppose the only question left is what to do next? The characters collect their winnings and can go their separate ways, or perhaps move on together to another, far more difficult module.
The other options discussed back when this began is to try another module, under another unusual initial setup. The original proposal, way back at the beginning, was that as we have played Gods among Men in one session, the next could be of the plight of the average guy.
The setup for that would essentially be a 4-6 member party, Core Races only, with a 10-15 point buy, having only NPC classes, doing an adventure that is once again out of their scope. A level 2 party doing a level 3 module for instance. Let me know if this interests you.
It has been a great deal of fun, and this campaign ended up pretty much exactly the slaughter-fest I was hoping for, though it did perhaps come off too easy at parts due to our character's substantial abilities. I had a great time playing with you all, and I hope you did as well.

I had a great time with this game and in making and playing Rost. I'm committed to playing this one out til the end but will unfortunately and respectively have to decline going further with another game. I've found I have less time for gaming lately.
Really appreciate you running this game Rigor and enjoyed going through it with the rest of you guys.
DM Jelani |
Same man, I enjoyed the game greatly! Grats on competing a module in PBP, that's no mean feat for a DM to keep a game going that long. Thank you so much for your work.
As for continuing with something else, I too will have to decline for the moment. I'm going back to college after a several year break starting in four days, so I'm going to have a lot less free time. I'm also hoping to get another AP recruitment going in the nearish future (all synthesist party, possibly a little mythic). Keep your eyes peeled, I'd love to play with y'all again.
Raven Hawthorne |
I had a lot of fun :-)
I think that we definitely proved that mid-level gestalt synthesists are a force to be reckoned with!
I will say that I would be interested in another game, moving forward :-)
Rigor Rictus |
Great to hear Raven, glad you and everyone else enjoyed themselves. As you are the only member of the team available to continue on at this point, I will probably not be rushing ahead with anything. However, I would like to run something I think, so I will keep you in mind and send you an invite whenever that happens. If it doesn't happen for a while, I'll probably send an invite to Stiehl9 and Jelani just in case their schedules are not as intense as they fear.
This game did help me learn a few things about both gestalt builds and synthesists. I've wanted to do a gestalt thing for a while, ever since I read about it way back in Unearthed Arcana, but never had the chance to run one myself (I've played in one or two). I've learned a bit about why so many revile the Synthesist, and why it has some definite concerns that need to be considered when allowing it. In this case, I think it created a pretty clear power disparity between the synthesist characters and the non-synthesist characters. I think it is no coincidence that all the non-synthesist melee characters died, and that the only non-synthesist to survive was a range/caster guy.
I think the next time I do a gestalt game, it will have to be either all Synthesists, like Jelani has been doing in his one off games, or with Synthesists banned. I'll probably ban them next time I do a gestalt game, as while they were a great deal of fun, having everyone run Synthesists kind of destroys the incredible variety that is what I really enjoy about Gestalt.
Again, this was great fun.
The last question is whether you would like to play out the final mystery, as your characters do have many of the clues already in hand, or let it go, saying that the chief evil has been vanquished, and the characters take their winnings and head back to their prospective homes?
DM Jelani |
Hey guys, I've just opened a new recruitment if you are interested,
DM Jelani's Council of Thieves (synthesist super hero style)
(Another reason I don't want to commit to playing another game at the moment) :P
