As they answer her questions about the assaults, Lovissa purses her lips. Hmmm...

But, talk of the poor deceased, causes her to nod. "We have no such taboos. Fear not. We'll see them laid to rest."

Lovissa turns in for the night, but spends a good deal of time thinking about the assaults, and the Ekujae's lack of denial. She'd have to keep a close watch on them, and their people. Only cowards harmed innocents for another man's debts.

Aglynn's face softens at the descriptions of their fallen comrades.

She says a long prayer to Torag that night, asking that he watch over the souls of the brave Ekujae who fell in battle.

You get a restful night's sleep. Soddy and Sara get back one more dex, leaving them at one dex damage

The next morning, Danbit and Erta lead you on a short walk, and stop just outside a clearing. The clearing shows clear signs of a fight a few days before, including decaying bodies of both Ekujae and Aspis. Just before you enter the clearing, Danbit hands one of you a tiny bit of wood carved into a star shape. "Please place this over Haldin's heart under the dirt. Then a tiny piece of our love can remain with him."

Erta teaches a few of you a short line of poetry that is clearly in a very archaic form of Elven to repeat over the bodies. You don't understand the details, but there is vague reference to cold wind wandering over hills and to souls flying among the clouds.

“It will be my honor to lay your friend to rest. You are not allowed to do the burial because they are too long dead, yes? Then we will help.” Catorze asks, her tail twitching for a moment before settling. “Are you allowed to listen?” she asks softly. “I can cast message spell so that you can hear and know that we have done this correctly.”

She takes the wood and then joins her team at digging the graves. After they lower Haldin into the grave, Catorze puts the wooden star on his heart and says the elvish poem she learned.

“Wind, wandering fast and cold
Blow on this lonely hill
Howl — for he lies still
Heart to heart, not lost, not old
Not where our tales may be told.
To the clouds and far away
In the heavens your soul will stay...”

Danbit agrees to the spell. At the end, you are pretty sure you can hear her weeping, but it is the weeping of mourning, not of despair.

When you are done, Erta encourages you to give Danbit a moment alone at the graves. In a few minutes, Danbit rejoins you. She has clearly been weeping, but you see a new resolve on her face.

"Come, we will take you to Fola. She will talk to you, and probably bring you to meet the elders," Erta urges.

Danbit walks next to Catorze, clearly searching for words. "Thank you. You could not save my promised mate's life, but you have kept the memories of our love clean for me."

Catorze does not reach out to touch Danbit, for the Ekujae are cautious with outsiders. Instead she walks next to the elf, her tread soft. “I lost my beloved aunties to Aspis slavers,” she says softly. “They fought for me as he fought for you. They live on in my heart and memories, forever honored.”

Lovissa pulls out whatever tools she can find -- using a hunk of wood if she has to -- and begins the difficult process of digging graves for the deceased. By the time it's done her muscles are sore, but she carefully picks up the corpses and places them into their graves with as much respect as she can muster, not caring at all about the smell or the bugs.

She waits for Catorze to relay the poem, then gives the body a nod. "May your legend live on long after this day."

Then she gets back to work, shoving all the dirt back into the holes and packing them in tightly.

Sore, tired, and covered in dirt, Lovissa smiles broadly. "Who knew I'd need a shovel on this mission?!" She dusts herself off, and head off to rejoin the elves.

"It is done." she announces simply.

I think there are two.

Aglynn doesn't say much during the service, worried about saying the wrong thing. But when the group starts digging, she gets to work.

Aglynn holds both of her arms in front of her and a large clump of earth detaches itself from the ground, floats through space, and deposits itself 15 feet away from the grave. She continues, until the gravesite is hollowed out. She repeats the process in reverse when the bodies are placed.

"We all become earth one day," she whispers.

Caena remains quiet through the small ceremony. When it is completed she helps to dig one of the graves (though with all the magical assistance I'm sure it's done before she has a chance to do much!) and then looks somberly at the two elves. To Catorze she says, "Tell them thank you, for sharing this part of their culture with us. It is humbling to see how other people deal with grief in their own way - it's something we all have to face eventually. But let's do what we can to prevent the need for much more of it, at least here, in the days ahead." She nods firmly, ready to meet this Fola and find out what the elves would have them do. At the moment she feels as if she could take on the entire Aspis organization if she needs to.

Danbit smiles warmly at Catorze through her tears. "You are right. He will live on in my heart."

Danbit and Erta lead you forward. A few times, you think you get a quick glimpse of other Ekujae or hear someone moving through the trees, but you are not disturbed by them.

You come to a clearing where a broad, shallow stream cuts across the path, flowing around the edge of a 10-foot-tall boulder. The air is slightly
cooler and there are few insects flying about. Standing atop the boulder, is a half-elf woman, clearly Ekujae by culture. She holds her hands empty
and relaxed at her sides as she addresses you in Common. She begins, "I am Fola Barun, speaker for the Ekujae. Why are you here?"

Danbit and Erta stand quietly beside you, waiting for you to answer.

I've put a picture of Fola at the top of the maps document, if you'd care to see who you're talking to.

"I am Lovissa, of the line of Halenbane. Daughter of Mergerice, and Granddaughter of Abrenica and Ferdinand. Famous Pathfinders, all." She gives the woman a respectful nod.

"I am a wanderer at heart, and explorer. A discoverer of history, both epic and small. My deeds are many and my legend is great. I am the saviour of Janira Gavix and Balenor Forsend, Slayer of the Minotaur of the Kortos Caverns, Hero of Diobel, Investigator for the city of Ridonport, as well as it's Hero and Saviour, Victor of the Battle of Arnisant House, and Honoured Patron of Arnisant House Museum."

"Word has reached the Pathfinders that your people have been abducting supposed agents of our organization and returning them days later after painful interrogations. That these were innocents unrelated to the Pathfinders seems to have no bearing on the violence. The survivors speak of a favour owed by the recently deceased Sharrowsmith to the Ekujae. We are here to put an end to the unnecessary abductions, and to fulfill whatever bargain and promises Sharrowsmith has made with your people. “Lovissa has spoken clearly of our purpose.” Catorze nods to her companion, and then back to Fola. “I have nothing to add, save to speak to our character. The society saved me, and then empowered me to rescue others. Our team saved abducted children in Isger. One of them, Gellion, is traveling with me now, learning the ways of the Pathfinder Society.” Catorze paces, tail twitching.

I do know that Sharrowsmith is passed.” She bites her lip, remembering the words before speaking them aloud. “Heart to heart, not lost, not old. Caena nervously watches the interaction. This new Ekujae is much more intimidating, and was she or was she not staring at Caena's gently pointed ears when they came in? She finds herself tongue-tied; all she can do is self-consciously nod along in agreement with the sentiments of her fellow Pathfinders. They are so good at sounding convincing. Maybe this will be an easy task, in the end. On that optimistic thought she gives a thin smile and agrees, "Yes, please let us meet your elders. We've come a long way to talk with them."

Fola makes a sound like a bird chirp, and three more Ekujae step out from the nearby woods to join you. They look wary for a moment, but Fola quickly signals to them and they relax.

Fola takes Danbit and Erta aside for a moment to ask them what has happened to them. You see a sad droop in her posture as she listens, followed by a jump of surprise. At the end, she turns back to you, with a much more welcoming look. "You have already done a service to our people. Please, come with me."

Fola then leads you on about a half a day's walk to the village. She talks happily with all of you, but seems quite curious about Caena. "I believe you may be similar to me, judging by the shape of your ears. Are you also half elven?"

I'm going to pause here, so that you can play through these conversations if you want to. Danbit, Erta, Fola, and three other Ekujae as well as your guide Mitarat are with you.

Caena blushes slightly when Fola addresses her. "I am, yes. Are you-" She bites her lip but continues. "The others seem to respect you. Do the Ekujae not... treat you differently? The elves I have met have not been pleased to even meet a half-elf, as if the fact that I was alive was unpleasant to them. From what I've heard of the wild elves I didn't think they would be any different." Her voice trails off and she blushes a little deeper, as she realizes this might be offensive. She glances at the elves out of the corner of her eye.

Caena straightens slightly and continues in a stronger tone. "Well, even if they aren't, I'm here to represent the Pathfinder Society and not myself. We had heard that our agents were being abducted and beaten, and I was angry about that. But now I have seen what the Aspis Consortium was doing. It was horrible. I don't know if that was related to this debt of the Sharrowsmith's, but maybe the elves have some good reasons to be angry. I hope they will be willing to share their side of this story with us."

She did what she could to help with the burial of the fallen Ekujae, still silent as she contemplated all that she had heard and bore witness to.

Fleshies seem saddened by death...but doesn't it mean they get to go be with their gods? I thought that was a good thing?

It was a lot to think about and it had largely kept her little leshy mind occupied until they begin the walk to the Ekujae village.

"Why wouldn't they?" she suddenly pipes up in response to Caena's last statement. "We've been nice, we've helped Danbit and Erta and Fola seemed happy with what we had to say. That would count for something, right?" Soddy asks, genuinely curious.

Danbit and Erta also join in the conversation some of the time. Mitarat looks warily all around the group as you walk, remaining silent. A few other Ekujae follow behind you, wary but not threatening.

The appearance of the jungle shifts subtly over the course of a few hundred yards, moving from thick undergrowth among towering trees to more controlled vegetation. Several small buildings formed of woven branches and grasses rise out of the ground.

In the surrounding trees above are many other buildings that match the style of those on the ground, although they seem to flow even more gracefully from the vegetation even than those below. A series of vines hang from branches throughout the area. Some are short enough only to swing from one treetop building to another, while others reach all the way to the ground. Colorful birds and noisy monkeys call out from all around,
yet their calls are fainter here than those in much of the surrounding jungle.

Several armed Ekujae elves rappel down from the treetops and move to intercept you, but they stop and listen when they see Fola with you. She calls out to them,

elven:
It's allright, friends, they come to speak to the elders. They are messengers from the Pathfinder Society, come here to look into paying Sharrowsmith's debt.

The new Ekujae move aside, allowing Fola to lead the rest of your party forward.

Most of the Ekujae you pass barely seem to notice you, because they are busy with their normal lives. You see them preparing food, repairing buildings, and talking with one another. You also see children playing some sort of game of tag high in the trees. A few notice the presence of Danbit and Erta, and seem puzzled, whispering among themselves. Danbit and Erta do not seem to notice this, and are clearly also going to see the elders.

pausing here for you to react; I don't want too large a block of text

She feels mild horror at the mention of tree-tag, and watches the children nervously, just waiting for someone to come crashing down. “Some people were meant for climbing trees, and some were meant to keep their feet on the ground. Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

Hey, gang, welcome again.

We will start playing after OutPost ends, or maybe a little before if our games seem to be winding down.

I am thinking we will play 7-24, Dead Man's Debt. According to PFS tracker, it is something you are all able to play. We will be playing at low tier.

This scenario is set in the Mwangi Expanse, and includes Ekujai elves and an 'ancient evil' if that influences what character you would like to bring. In keeping with the theme of this game, please bring a female character. Let's start out by discussing what character you would like to play.

Contributor

Hey, hey! I did play this one in Core, but I’m happy to play it again in Standard.

Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

I noticed that. When I put all you guys into the PFS tracker, it was one of few that you all could play in standard, open to level 1 characters, which I had played but not GMed, and really enjoyed as a player.

I will be bringing Catorze, my Dashing Thief (Swashbuckler) / Achaeologist (Bard). She is character 14 for me, and yes, she really is a catfolk. I did Tier One at GenCon last year, and so I have the boon for her.

There will be no inspire courage from this selfish bard, alas. Catorze is built to be a slightly magical trap expert who fences with her rapier and has a lovely pair of boots that she is very proud of. She will have knowledge skills and disable device, though!

Up this point, she is a GM Baby, so she can be either Level 2 or Level 3 depending on whether I slow track the last level of Gallows of Madness on her or not. I will decide which she is based on what the group decides.

Background: she was born in the Mwangi and abducted to Osirion, where she was freed and learned to worship Bastet. So this adventure will be all about her going back home to place she barely remembers.

Hmm

Hellooo~

Checking in, thank you again for the invite! As of right now I have no idea which character I would bring to this but I have many lowbie characters to choose from as well as the option to make new ones (still have a Samsaran boon I've not done anything with).

I'll give it some thought :)

Hullo all! I'm looking forward to this game. I'd guess it would be a good fit for this girl: a half-elf, half-Garundi from northern Garund. She was raised with anti-elf prejudice, which might present challenges, and on the whole she'd prefer desert over jungle, but she's definitely opposed to ancient evil at least.

Actually I don't have any other options - I only have two PFS characters so far and the other one is both male and occupied elsewhere. But I could also come up with a new one depending on what we need. Inventing new characters is hardly a chore. :D

Hello ladies!

Thanks for the invitation!

First off, Catorze sounds awesome! Haha.

I have a few ideas of who I'll bring, depending on what everyone else wants to play. I'll give it some further thought, but I'm currently thinking:

- I have a kitsune kineticist who grew up alone in the wilds. She has a fondness for powerful objects and evil magic. She's more than a little self-centered and tends to find people's 'sensitivities' amusing

- I have an melee focused occultist of mixed Taldane/Ulfen descent who is just a blast to play.

- Or I have a halfling sorceress of the celestial blood who's a chipper do-gooder

Thanks again, for having me! I'm excited to see what everyone else wants to play.

Contributor

I too have options!

Suna, my nagaji battle oracle 2. She's been entirely play-by-post so far, so she's probably the most convenient. She seems to keep embarrassing herself in front of people she's trying to impress.

Jiyoki, my kitsune trickster 1 (going to be an arcane trickster). Con artist, good with skills, kinda meh in combat. Might overlap too much with Catorze.

Fareth, skinwalker hunter 1 with a bear companion (that will turn into an owlbear when a certain chronicle applies). Hasn't been played yet.

Aglynn, dwarf geokineticist 1. Hasn't been played yet.

Oh gosh, if we're naming off options let's see...

1st Level Characters
Nimerah, half-elf Dawnflower Dervish fighter
Aki, kitsune Arrowsong Minstrel bard
Isme & Vita, half-elf Homuncultist alchemist & familiar
Layla + Hewie, human Wild Child brawler and her dog AC
Jacinth, elven Freebooter ranger
Lucina, halfling sorcerer
Katarina + Ashton, human spiritualist & Guardian phantom
Martine, Inspired Blade swashbuckler
Palomia + Relas, human U. Summoner & agathion eidolon
Minna, half-elven Spelleater bloodrager

2nd & 3rd Level Characters
Fran + Mr. Sunshine, half-elven Dimensional Occultist witch & cat familiar
Callah, undine Speaker for the Past shaman
Liora, sylph Sky Druid

...as you can see, I've got plenty of options to fill just about any sort of 'gap' we'd have! Layla, Lucina, Martine, and Minna are 'fresh' 1st level characters and Callah's only been played live up to this point. All the rest have at least one or two chronicles on them. Does anyone have any preferences on who/what they might like to see? :)

Paizo Employee Organized Play Line Developer

I can honestly say I've never played with anyone who has been a spiritualist or a summoner (except for myself!). Haha. I 'd like to see one in action.

Hee...Palo and Relas could be fun, in that case. Palo tends to be sarcastic and a bit of a grump and Relas is usually pretty cheerful in contrast. Katarina's basically a bookworm sort and Ashton's pretty laid-back and easygoing :)

Hi,

I have four options:

Clara Oswin Oswald, human investigator 1
Melody Pond, human archeologist 1
Laria Gruffmud, dwarven musket master 1
Dirva Ciraha, undine druid adept 1

I could also create a new one, if it's necessary.

Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

Hi, I'm checking in with everyone. We said after OutPost, but if everyone's OutPost games are done early, we might start a little earlier. I think the game I'm GMing will probably be done in about two more weeks. I get the impression that my two player games for OutPost are probably going to be done at a similar time.

Contributor

I don’t think mine will finish early, but if I’m the lone straggler, I should be okay to add one more game! I’m leaning toward my hunter, if people don’t mind an animal companion with a six-player table. Otherwise, I’ll probably go with my kineticist.

Same, I'm not sure if mine will finish super early but I can probably add another game too if everyone else is ready to start sooner rather than later.

Still noodling over who/what to bring...I definitely don't mind an animal companion though :)

Paizo Employee Organized Play Line Developer

Although one of my games should be done soon, the others will take a few more weeks. That being said, I'm good to start early. It will make it easier to pick a character, haha.

I don't mind you bringing an animal companion at all.

One of my games just ended; the others I'm not sure about, but probably won't take until the end of the month either. I'm fine to start earlier.

I've never played with a hunter at the table but have thought about creating one, so I'd be all for seeing how it works with a group.

Contributor

This will be my first time playing her, so I'm looking forward to seeing how she works, too!

Contributor

Actually, I think I changed my mind. I've played my kineticist a few times lately, and I think I'd rather play her.

Mind you, I'll probably waffle back and forth several more times before we actually start!

Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

:)

I'm still undecided too...though depending on when we actually end up getting started I may end up making a new vine leshy PC to play :D

Contributor

I don't think I'm GMing PFS at a con this quarter that will have the vine leshy boon! Luckily, my husband should be earning several, and I'm stealing one.

Paizo Employee Organized Play Line Developer

Well, I finally decided I'm going to bring my melee-focused occultist to this game. She's one of my favourites.

I'm excited to get started!

Lovissa's brave, bold and bombastic. Subtlety's not her strong suit, nor does she want it to be. She wants to walk her own path, make her own discoveries, and forge her name into a legend! She care's a great deal for honour, lineage and honesty, but believes that all of us are capable of more than what we are, or our families were, and with hard work we can live a life to be proud of.

Descended from a long line of Taldane Pathfinders who specialized in Kellid and Ulfen historical studies, Lovissa grew up far from home in the Land of the Linnorm Kings. Her mother was more than a little free-wheeling, and Lovissa has no idea who her father is (though he's certainly Ulfen), nor does she think that's strange at all. She acts more Ulfen than Taldan, and is proud of both of her heritage's. She spent most of her life on archaeological digs.

She's saved the lives of multiple Pathfinders, foiled some of the Aspis Consortium's plans in Diobel, and recently went back to Taldor for the first time, where she engaged in investigations, espionage and some good, old fashioned, a**-kicking. There's a commemorative plaque there now, proudly recounting her heroic deeds in saving the town of Ridonport, and she's earned the honour of requisitioning pieces from the museum there in times of need.

She makes friends and inspires her companions surprisingly often, considering she has little social skills. She's more than capable of healing her companions, but as a front-line fighter, its rare she'll get around to it in the middle of a battle.

She's capable of assisting in trap removal, and with magical objects, but neither are her specialty.

Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

Looks like fun, meloriel!

I usually try to go a little off stereotype with my characters, without being mechanically bad, but in this case a vine leshy is just so full of fun flavor that I couldn't resist playing to type. The other character concept I considered was a wood blast kineticist.

I was actually thinking kineticist might be fun since I don't have one yet but a hunter or alchemist could be amusing too :)

Aglynn is a pretty straightforward geokineticist. This will be my first time using her in PBP, but I don't expect anything to need special handling. I'll get her stats/tagline updated this evening.

I also have the Defensive Strategist trait (Praise Torag!) which means that I am not flat-footed at the start of combat.

Hmmm... Lovissa doesn't have anything particularly complicated you'll need to worry about.

She'll likely have two resonant powers active at the start of the scenario, which she might not have in use by the end, but both are static increases so you won't have to worry about it, as I'll already have it taken account into my stats (Third eye gives her +1 perception, and physical enhancement gives her +2 strength).

Her most complicated ability is object reading.

Object Reading:
Object Reading: (Su): An occultist learns how to read information from items he examines. Examining an item in this way requires him to spend 1 minute handling the item. If the item is a magic item, the occultist learns its properties and command word as if he had successfully examined the item using detect magic and succeeded at a Spellcraft check. This ability does not reveal whether the item is cursed unless the occultist’s class level is equal to or greater than the caster level of the item. If the item has any historical significance, the occultist learns one piece of information about its past (as determined by the GM). Finally, if the item was last used no longer than 1 day ago per the occultist’s class level, the occultist learns one piece of information about the last creature to use the item. This information might be a glimpse of the creature’s appearance, a brief vision of what it saw while using the item, or perhaps its emotional state when it last used the item. The GM determines what information is gained in this way. This functions like the psychometry occult skill unlock (see page 196), but doesn’t require a skill check and can be used at will.

And... That should be it. Her focus powers aren't complicated, she's not go weird feats, or tactics, and her spells are straight forward.

Silver Crusade

Female Half-Elf Paladin 2 | HP 20/20 | AC 19 Tch 11 FF 18 | CMD 16 | F+9 R+5 W+8 (+2 vs enchant) | Init +3 | Perc +3 SM +3, low-light vision | Speed 20ft | Smite Evil: 1/1 Lay on Hands: 4/4 Inspiration: 0/1 Magic Weapon: 1/1 | Active conditions: none

I don't know how you feel about Detect Evil; I'm aware that there's some disagreement out there about its use and effects. I generally only use it if I want to make sure I'm not wasting a smite, and not to suss out wickedness in the general population, so hopefully it won't be a problem.

The only thing I have that's not standard paladin is the inspired trait, so I can roll twice to get the better on a skill check once per day.
