Several party members attack, while others position themselves. The hellhounds snap their teeth at you, black and red flames spewing from their mouths. The cleric casts a spell directed at Adele.

ROUND 10 SUMMARY

Maysalkirii conjures a weapon of divine force and directs it to attack the hobgoblin cleric. He moves under the cover of invisibility into the room.
Narses nearly cleaves the beast with his axes, but the infernal monstrosity stays on its feet.
Adele nimbly maneuvers herself past the hellhounds to face the hobgoblin cleric.
Dragox finishes what Narses started, ending the threat of one of the helllhounds.
Findor rushes back, ending nearly to the door of the farmhouse.

Feek's spiritual weapon strikes again-

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24Spiritual Weapon Attack Roll
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4Force damage, ignores DR

Invisibility fading away as he strikes, Maysalkirii plunges Ilyandrosa deep into the hobgoblins throat, following through with Chianni aiming for the hobgoblin's heart. The magic animating Ilyandrosa to be potent against Goblins fades after the strike is made...

There's always some dispute over sneak attack and iterative attacks- I'll assume only my first strike treats him as flat-footed and thus gets sneak attack- but if thats not how you run it add 3d6 damage from Chianni.

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33 Includes invisibility bonus, vs flat-footed AC.
1d6 + 8 + 2d6 + 3d6 ⇒ (5) + 8 + (2, 4) + (3, 6, 4) = 32

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Add 3d6 damage if hes still flat-footed after the first strike.

Crit threat on Ilyandrosa-
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25 Confirmed Crit
1d6 + 8 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 8 + (6, 5) = 25 Extra damage, bane isn't precision damage and thus is multiplied, sneak attack is not included

72 damage, 76 including spiritual weapon.

Casting detect magic on the fallen hobgoblin cleric, you see a faint aura appear on his armor.

Hint: Why not field strip all of the enemy gear, put it in a pile, then cast detect magic on everything at once?

We will do just that- But no harm done, Level 0 spell after all :P

Findor goes back outside to stand guard over the awakening hobgoblin.

Maysalkirii Weyog wrote:

I still play in a 3.5 campaign on another website, so the idea of 'infinite cantrips/orisons' still slips my mind from time to time. :)

I'm guessing someone would like to gather all of the loot? Do you want to search the pile of human bodies, or leave them alone?

Male Human Monk 2/Fighter 4

Maysalkirii would like to search everything in detail, including the farmhouse- watching out for any nasty traps the hobgoblins might have left. Feel free to roll for me secretly if necessary- Using Guidance so perception modifier is +12, +14 for traps. Interrogation isn't really Feek's thing...

Female Halfling Bard/ Paladin (sacred servant) 7 (gestalt)

Adele gingerly examines the bloody bite mark left by the hound. Oh dear, she sighs as she views her torn and stained shirt. I'll have to ask Findor to learn prestidigitation to clean this up. Lay on Hands 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5

Sadly, she moves to examine the mutilated body parts in the corner, seeking to restore some semblance of dignity to the remains before preparing them for proper burial.

Examing the bodies of the hobgoblins, you find that they are all dressed uniformly, indicating a well-organized military force. They all bear the same insignia on their chests, located over the heart (PIC). Looting the bodies of your fallen enemies, you find:

Hobgoblin Soldiers:
finely-made longsword (16)
composite longbow (16)
chainmail armor (16)
heavy steel shield (16)
arrows (280)
milky-white potion (8)

Hobgoblin Leader:
finely-made shortsword (2)
finely-made studded leather armor

Hobgoblin Cleric:
finely made banded mail
finely-made heavy mace
light steel shield
milky-white potion (2)
scroll (2)

Knowledge (religion) DC 15:
The symbol is holy to Zon-Kuthon, an evil god of tyranny and cruelty.

Examining the bodies of the dead humans, you can surmise their identities. A man dressed in rough woolen shirt and pants appears to be a farmer, likely the owner of the farmhouse. A woman dressed in fine linen traveling clothes appears to be a merchant or noblewoman. The other three bodies are of well-muscled young men, probably guards for the woman. All of the bodies bear arrow wounds, indicating an ambush. They have all been gnawed and chewed to some degree. Looting the bodies of the slain humans, you find:

studded leather armor (3)
longsword (3)
light crossbow (3)
crossbow bolt (14)

Perception DC 10:
You find a pouch sitting beside the bodies in the farmhouse. Inside is 355gp.

With the battle over Narses lets out a huge breath of relief, seming to grow a bit smaller with the outlett of breath. Feeling the fatigue and after battle shock come over him he sags down to his haunches, his grip on the axes growing limp, and starts to sweat profously.

"Don't argue the marching order again Findor, the scouts are always up front!" he breaths after the elf. "No ambush, indead!" He mutters to himself, shaking his head as he sits down trying to catch his breath.

Fatigued for 24 round for raging. Thats 4 minutes of being out of breath, wow!

perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

Sitting there and watching Feek and Adele going through the bodies he notices a pouch off to theire side and poits it out. Hei! Whats that?

Male Human Monk 2/Fighter 4

Maysalkirii quickly finds the pouch of gold coins (he can't fail that DC), and shows it to the group.

Whats showing up as magical from all the gear?

Well, obviously, that must belong to one of these poor people. If only we can find their next of kin, think what a comfort a small fortune will be to them in their hour of loss!

Adele gasps as she sees the hobgoblin's holy symbol. Oh dear, she murmurs, as she fingers the wicked looking skull with a spiked chain dangling from the eyeholes.

Looting the soldiers bodies of the strange vials, he also casts detect magic and examines the potion bottles.

He looks up momentarily from his perusal to respond to the quip. No one asked me to scout, or I would have. I assumed this was just a normal everyday journey. He looks around again, taking the hobgoblin bodies into account. Apparently I was wrong. We survived though. No harm done.

Adele manages a troubled smile as she takes the pouch from the goblin. This hobgoblin, she explains, he served the misguided brother of my goddess. There exists a very uneasy truce between them, for the sake of the love he once bore for her and which she still bears for him. Her tone hardens. His followers are very nasty business, indeed, creatures who glory in pain and destruction for its own sake. If Zon-Kuthon is worshipped by the goblins threatening this area, then the land's inhabitants fear for good reason.

The potions do not reveal a magical aura. They are, however, in sturdy vials with cork stoppers, implying they were meant to be accessible very quickly and easily.

Rising with a wince, Adele nods. I was rash to rush into the midst of the fray like that, she admits. The hobgoblins' brutality angered me, and I failed to consider that my flesh was as vulnerable as their unfortunate victims'.

Seeing that the others were now examining the cleric and the others, Dragox moves to the outside to check on Findor and the captive. "Thankfully someone had the sense to make sure this cad didn't escape his bonds. I think we should probably wait for Adele to join us to question him. She looks much nicer than you or I," he tells the elf.

Female Halfling Bard/ Paladin (sacred servant) 7 (gestalt)

Adele smiles at the half-orc. Thank your Dawnflower for her healing. She takes the sheets from the bed to drape over the unfortunate victims and stands a moment in silence, her head bowed, a tribute to their passing.

Narses, she says, this woman does not seem to have been an inhabitant of this humble abode; she and her retinue had to have come here from somewhere. I know we've made a mess out there, but do you suppose you could look around for tracks? They might help us find her home and family.

After that, she goes outside to where Findor and Dragox are waiting with the captive and prepares to question him.

Adele will cast Tongues and Eagle's Splendor before interrogating the captive. If anyone can think of anything specific we want to ask him, chime in and she'll pass it on if Diplomacy can do anything for us! Otherwise, we'll move on to someone with an Intimidate check. ;)

I should be very interested in knowing who these People of the Dragon are.

Findor declares firmly, though he makes no move to ask the prisoner. At Adele's insistence he flicks his swordspoint away from the hobgoblin and sheathes the blade.

Shield wears off.

Divine Favor wears off.

"If you could Adele, find out what that place or name was that the hobbies kept referring to earlier. What are they doing here and why did they take this particular farmhouse?" Dragox says, thinking out loud.

1. Detect poison reveals nothing.

2. The road you travel is the main artery between the Elsir Vale and the outside world. Considering the average rate of traffic, you estimate it wouldn't have taken more than a few hours for a few people to fall victim to the hobgoblins. Further investigation shows the body of the farmer to be much more advanced in decay than the others. Perhaps they were using the farmhouse as a clandestine base and only killed those who stopped to investigate. Perhaps the thought of a rich merchant was too much to resist. Who knows? All you can tell, however, is that if they had killed every traveler who passed by, there would have been many, many more bodies. You have noticed, however, that you stopped passing fellow travelers on the road approximately two days ago.

3. The imprints of heavy boots crisscross the area in myriad directions. Some fresh, some old. It appears the farmhouse may have been used as a command center of sorts.

Then we have done well to liberate it, Adele replies, before reaching into her spell component pouch, closing her eyes, and whispering some arcane words. When she opens her eyes again, they seem larger and dewier, her skin more glowing and radiant, her whole aspect softer and more appealing. Kneeling down next to the bound prisoner, she speaks, and her gentle voice sounds unfamiliar as it expertly pronounces the guttural sounds of the Goblin language.

in Goblin:
Your companions and the leader who foolishly commanded you to attack us are dead, as is the evil cleric secreted within that farmhouse. There is now no one here to take action against you for doing what is right and helping us, or to overhear you and plot revenge against your family. Tell us: who or what is the Kulkor Zhul, in whose name you fight? And why are your people attacking the inhabitants of this land?

Yes, finely-made means masterwork. It should be obvious to any casual observer whether an item is masterwork or not, but since magical items are masterwork as well, whenever you see the term 'finely-made' or something similar it indicates at least masterwork if not magical gear.
