It is New Year’s Eve, and near midnight on this frigid evening the heroes gather in a small condemned tavern in the Free Citystate of Gate Pass. Located in the mountain pass which separates two hostile nations — Ragesia and Shahalesti — Gate Pass has been neutral since the end of their last war, but now from Ragesia a scourge comes for the city.
By now, every magic-user in Gate Pass knows of the Scourge. The Emperor of Ragesia died barely a month ago, and in a move to cement herself as
the next emperor of Ragesia, Leska, leader of the Ragesian inquisitors, has decreed that all disloyal users of magic — arcane or divine — are to be tracked down and killed, to prevent future threats to the empire.
To carry out Leska’s command, the inquisitors, clerics specialized in countermagic, travel with military escorts to the borders of Ragesia. Their first target is Gate Pass, its neutrality long viewed as an insult to the nation’s honor. Those who resist them will have to face the searing power of the Ragesian Empire.
An entire army marches for Gate Pass, and the people of the city fear that they will not be able to resist the might of the Ragesian military. The city leaders are bowing under pressure, and have
barred the exit from the city, intending to welcome the inquisitors that come with the army, for they foolishly hope that the Ragesians will reward their cooperation with mercy.
A local resistance movement, devoted to keeping both the Ragesians and the Shahalesti out of the city, has gathered vital military intelligence, and they need messengers to deliver the information to allies at a distant wizard’s school.
With all their strongest warriors preparing to hold back the Ragesian assault, this vital mission falls to a party of inexperienced heroes.
The Ragesian army is nearly at Gate Pass’s doorstep, so time is short. The war is about to begin.
The resistance has given inexperience heroes a mission to go to a cleric named Torrent and get him out of the city as soon as possible. His safety is paramount. The resistance doesn't want to tell the group why.
The heroes have been told to meet Torrent at the Poison Apple Pub a little before midnight on New Year’s Eve, and to use the alley door. The pub has been closed down since its owner was
arrested, but the resistance say that Torrent got permission from the owner’s wife to use the building for the evening.
The people of the city know an army is on the way, so the streets are fairly deserted and normal festivities muted. The group is able to get to the pub with little interruption.
The pub is in a poorer district about a mile from the western city wall, filled with slush-covered cobblestone streets and dark, snow-filled alleyways. The evening is dark and claustrophobic,
the multistory buildings of the city looming in the
night, no lights in most windows.
The pub is a two-story building attached by a rooftop bridge to a neighboring house. The door and windows are boarded up, and the curtains drawn (though a faint light can be seen if someone checks closely). A notice has been posted on its door:
Trehan Finner, owner of the
Poison Apple Pub, has been taken
into temporary custody under the
protection of the city guard, until
such time that he can be questioned
by representatives of the Ragesian
Empire, and found innocent
of hostile collusion.
The Poison Apple Pub is hereby
closed until further notice.
The heroes move down the adjoining alleyway and knock on the alleyway door. A few moments later a middling age woman cracks open the doors, then opens the door a little wider checking for anyone else in the alleyway. She is wearing a cloak that covers her body and a hood that hides her face.
She bids the group enter. Thanks for coming She says Have a drink, just because we're about to go to war doesn't mean we can't celebrate the new year."
Another woman behind the bar sets about getting some ale for the group of 4, she sets down the drinks in tankards at the table the woman sits at.
The woman then introduces herself taking off her hood. "I am Torrent, not what you were expecting I take it?" You can see she is wearing a set of chainmail underneath the cloak and has a mace tied to her belt. Torrent has platinum blond hair that is hacked relatively short, seems like she did it herself by how haphazard the cutting was. Her most notable feature is she has heterochromia, one blue eye and one green eye.
"Please let us sit down and be merry for a little while, how are you all this evening?"
As the group looks around the Poison Apple Pub has the bar down here, with two doorways leading to other rooms. There is a staircase upstairs with several rooms up top as well.

Yersil Enflamanon |

"What's the status on Finner?", the silver-scaled Drack said as he also removes his hood and steps into the bar area. While robed only in a garment of white and silver, his scales were dense enough to prevent a bit of damage. A large two-handed sword was tied to his backpack, readily available at a moment's notice. Hardly inconspicuous, but with war coming, he hoped no one would find it strange at all.

Gil Mirth |

How dare they question...or try to end his connection with his god. Who are they to try and tell me what to do, and what to believe. I sense that they have stirred a nest of hornets, and I know I'll do whatever I can to stop them. If this cleric can help...then I'm willing to do my part
Gil enters the room, his hood draped low over his face, and his collar high to hide his origin. He turns at the clerics approach, and nods his greeting.
"Hello". "My name is Gil, and I've learned not to expect anything, however this is a pleasant turn of events". "I am doing as well as can be expected considering the circumstances we find ourselves in". "Are you sure we're safe here"?
Gil takes time to survey the room looking for other exits or entrances, and anything else of note. He also notes the other arrivals for any signs of betrayal.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 Perception (The room)
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 Perception (The occupants)

GM_Radiance |

If you don't state you are using a skill I'll assume you are taking 10 on it as in Radiance that is the default competence of your character. You can always choose to roll and if you want to do something just tell me what you are doing and roll the according dice.
Torrent clasps her cup and leans in closer so the woman behind the bar doesn't hear. "The lady over there is Finner's wife, I don't want her to hear this. We know that Finner is alive though he is worse for wear. The city guard have not been kind with questioning. Don't worry about him some of the others are en route to deal get him out. I am not privy as to how but they will attempt it."
Gil looks around and sees the one of the doors downstairs is locked. The other one is a cloak room. Behind some stacks of tables and chairs is a storage room though is relatively empty as the owner has been away not able to restock.
Upstairs all the rooms are open, they are all empty bedrooms for rent. Though not in use due to the closure of the pub. One of the rooms is the Master bedroom where the two owners stay, it has a trap door to the roof that is securely locked as well.
The only people here other than the party are the two women, the woman behind the bar is acting very stiff but is trying to crack a smile or two due to the New Year. She looks worried though that isn't a surprise, her husband is in custody and a war is brewing.
Torrent on the other hand is very relaxed and her body language is open. You can't shake the feeling that she is probably trying to relax herself as she too is worried.
She smiles as she notices Gil looking around. "Haha, I can understand the paranoia but don't worry I checked out the place before you got here. Mrs.Finner has been a good friend of ours for years now. Nowhere is truly safe, but this is the safest we're going to get.

Lescol |

Lescol looks at the gathering with a sad expression on his face. Speaking of faces, you notice that Lescol's is particularly unattractive with uneven features, huge unkempt eyebrows, one eye that bulges slightly all framed by long, dirty greasy hair Basically just like the picture.
"I will do my best to help you escape Torrent but you should know that most people I am around quickly end up dead. I don't want your ghost to haunt me because I didn't warn you." If you look for a smile to make the statement a joke you quickly realize that there is no joking at all in Lescol's face.
"Just one question Torrent. I was told that Torrent was a man. You clearly are not. Please explain the discrepancy.". You can see Lescol's grip his long sword.

GM_Radiance |

"Hmm, looks like you paid attention there Lescol. Wondered why I asked 'not what you were expecting?' The resistance want to try and cover our trail as much as possible." Torrent reclines in her chair a little.
"If anyone overheard your conversation they will be out looking for a group defending a male cleric correct? When they see a female cleric and her friends they should look the other way no? That is part of the plan, I don't think it will get us far but any little helps in such a tense situation." She tries to give a comforting smile but she is fearing the worst for the plans.
"If you are worried about that I am not the cleric you are looking for I will prove some of it." Torrent lifts up one of her sleeves and you see a tattoo of a swirling vortex going up her elbow up towards her shoulder. She takes out a pendant of Esmariah and lays it on the table.
Yersil is able to immediately recognise that the pendant is only granted to and used by Clerics or the higher clergy of the Esmariahian Church.
As far as the group is able to tell the other information is right, even if the gender was wrong. By the way Torrent talks and the information you have been given the group can tell how the resistance works is very segmented. Likely this is to cover their tracks, if agents are on a need to know basis they won't have information to divulge.

GM_Radiance |

The group hears a variety of distant bells ring out throughout the city, chiming to celebrate the New Year.
Torrent grimaces and straightens in her chair, asking the group to sit down while mentioning "Another year gone by, time to get down to business" then says:
“The city’s in trouble. The Ragesian army is marching on us, and will be here by tomorrow. Before then, we have a mission.
“I used to study at a magic academy to the south, called Lyceum. They’re good people. So when word reached them about Ragesia’s
Scourge,’ they sent out messages calling for anyone fleeing Ragesia to come to them. They want to stand against the Ragesians, and the resistance wants their help. We just need to get a message to them.
“Normally we would have sent something by teleporting courier, but something strange is going on with planar magic. The last courier
who teleported into Gate Pass, rumor is that he showed up burnt to a crisp. Not that I have that sort of magic anyway, but if we’re going
to talk to Lyceum, we’re going to have to go overland. And that’s a problem, because the city’s walls are sealed. She continues worriedly.
“Ever since their emperor died, the Ragesians have been trying to show that they’re not weak, and they’re marching an army in our direction, since the mountain pass we’re in is apparently ‘strategically valuable.’ She says annoyed.
Either way, a few idiots on the city council want to negotiate with the Ragesians, and rumor is they’re going to invite a group of inquisitors into the city to look for ‘magic-users who are hostile to the empire.’ They’ve sealed the gates of the city so no one can get out, to make sure they look like they’re cooperating, and only military personnel can get in or out. She looks to all of the group in front of her knowingly since all are them capable of magic.
“We’re going to have to get out of the city, and I’m open to suggestions as to how. Once we’re out, I can get us safely to Lyceum, but before we get ahead of ourselves, we have a mission tonight. She says sternly.
She folds her arms across her chest “The short version is that we’ve got to meet a contact — a gnome named Rivereye Badgerface — in about an hour at a guarded depository about a half-mile from here. He’s
carrying a case of vital military intelligence which he stole from the Ragesian palace, and the heads of the resistance think that it needs to reach Lyceum. We’ve got to get that case, get out of the city, and get far away from here before the idiot city council lets the Ragesian inquisitors in. Once that happens, the odds of us escaping are —“ she finishes off her mug of beer in one long guzzle “— slim.
She sighs “I know I’d love to stay here and fight against the Ragesians, but I’m no soldier, and this mission might be more important. Worst case, you get away from the Ragesians and
we can part ways a few days down the road. Best case, you can come with me to Lyceum, and we come back with an army of our own to drive off the Ragesians. But we’ve got to act fast either way. Are you ready for this?”
As she waits for your reply she places a map of Gate pass in front of you. "Like I said I am not a soldier so I won't be the best planner but I'll offer information and suggestions, I'm sure some of you will know more than I."
You can ask questions and Torrent will give any information she can, you may also use skill checks to see if you know snippets of information yourself. The map is in the campaign info under Gate Pass Map
The depository is the tower marked B on the map

Lescol |

Turning to the other members of his team Lescol says "Knowing the battlefield is often the key to victory. I would suggest one of us scout the depository to determine what we will be faced with. For some reason people tend to not look too closely or too long at me so I can volunteer to scout the situation Stealth +4 Skill. Not that it matters. We'll all likely be dead before daybreak."
Lescol gets up and begins pacing. "The Captain always used to say that a diversion multiplies your strength 10 fold. Of course, at the end of the day it didn't save him but it still is good advice. If you agree with me scouting maybe you too could think of a diversion to occupy the guards and disguises to get through the gate. And horses, stealing horses would be good. Horse meat makes for good eating if you be desperate enough."

Gil Mirth |

Gil takes his time reviewing the map. "There has to be another way out of the city". "There always is". "How about the hills north of the city, perhaps there are tunnels or secret paths there". "Does anyone know someone trustworthy, who might know of these".
"Otherwise Lescol's plan of sneaking out and a distraction might work". "I am able to fly for a brief period of time if that helps, and am good in the water as well".

GM_Radiance |

Torrent says "Well walking out is impossible and sneaking out will be problematic and best. Perhaps someone of political power might be able to sneak us out of here? I don't know of any personally myself."
Nobility: Gil then remembers a councilman, Erdan Menash who is sympathetic to adventurers who might be able to provide aid. Erdan is a former merchant and tailor who sold well-crafted but horribly unfashionable gear.
Torrent also says "Maybe even magical aid can help us, I know of a school led by a name called Gabal. Of course magic users are all in danger so we're all looking out for each other. That might be an option too, someone there might help us out?"
Torrent nods at Lescol "What you say is sound, when we get near the depository we can hide and you can scout the place out before we attempt to enter in earnest."

Lescol |

"The closest gate seems to be in the Elvish Ghetto. There has to be smugglers that use that gate to get in and out of the city. Does anyone know of someone? I think I might remember a name..."
Streetwise Skill Check (+0): 1d20 ⇒ 14

GM_Radiance |

Lescol knows of an elf named Kirah Starshade, he used to smuggle in some more illicit substances through the gates. Lescol is not sure if he is able to smuggle people but it is worth a shot. A long one unfortunately.
Torrent says to Gil: "Having a trusted ally will definitely help, you think we can give it a shot?" She asks the group.

Nilus Romerus |

I hope I'm not committing a huge faux pas by posting prematurely, I'm new to the PbP genre
A large man walks through the door to the Poison Apple. He is wearing a chain shirt and carrying two swords. His face and neck are scarred from what looks like acid or fire.
Hmm, looking for a priest, lets see what we have here

Lescol |

Lescol jumps to his feet when the scarred man enters the room smoothly drawing his long sword (which seems to glow faintly as if lit from within). He eyes the large man warily.
"Who are you and what is your business here?"

Kaive Foefeather |

Stepping in behind the armoured man is a tall, scruffy looking tengu in ragged leather armour. Although as slender and frail looking as the rest of his kind, he is a lot taller than you would have expected, having to duck his feathered head beneath the door frame to enter the room. Despite his generally travel-worn and unkempt appearance, two wicked-looking scythes gleam at his belt.
"Woah, easy there,' the wandering tengu monk answers, his voice mellow "We're here for the same reason that you are, a mutual friend wants to take a break in the country, we're just here to see him safely on his way."
The bird-man cocks his head at the ugly man with the longsword and grins, insofar as a tengu can grin with a beak. Although loath to judge a book by its cover, Kaive reckons that Lescol's life must have been pretty appalling, to leave the man so hideously disfigured. Or perhaps he was just born ugly. C'est la vie.
"Perhaps someone that looks to have lost as many fights as you have should avoid picking any more."
"My name, by the by, is Kaive Foefeather. Which of you gentlemen is Torrent?"

GM_Radiance |

@Nilus: Nah it's all good.
"I am" A woman introduces herself. You can see she is wearing a set of chainmail underneath the cloak and has a mace tied to her belt. Torrent has platinum blond hair that is hacked relatively short, seems like she did it herself by how haphazard the cutting was. Her most notable feature is she has heterochromia, one blue eye and one green eye.
"I take it since you came through that entrance you are with us" She says warily. "Sorry for the deception about my gender, you are here to help I take it?"
Just so I'm not repeating myself about why Torrent is a girl and not a man assume she replies likewise I did a few posts ago.

Lescol |

C'est la vie.
"Perhaps someone that looks to have lost as many fights as you have should avoid picking any more."
"Well met Kaive Featherbrain and your unnamed friend. Well met indeed if you can help us get our cargo" Lescol nods his head towards Torrent, "out of town. Do either of you have useful contact that could help get us out."
Lescol gives Kaive a unfriendly smile revealing a mouth full of broken, yellowed teeth. "As for losing fights, I'm still alive while everyone that I have ever cared about is dead. I don't know then if winning is really losing. Don't fret too much about it though as I doubt any of us will be alive tomorrow."

Kaive Foefeather |

"Ah, well - as long as you don't start to care about me, then I reckon I'll be just fine."
Kaive drags a stool out from beneath the bar and rests his long legs while he waits for the rest of the group to make ready. He is so gangly that - even seated - he is almost as tall as some of the other men and women gathered around the common room.

GM_Radiance |

@Nilus: Your sheet is fine, very helpful sheet actually. Though one thing I can see you've missed is the penalty to perception due to your greathelm.
Torrent waves to the lady behind the desk to get more drinks, she obliges but realizes that there is no more ale in the vicinity so she goes off to one of the locked rooms presumably a store room to get some more.
As she is getting some Torrent does say "So far from what I can tell we have decided to meet with Rivereye first, he is a contact with some military documents that we need. The time window is an hour so we shall depart shortly. We then have can meet up with a contact that Gil knows to perhaps get us out of Gatepass or at least aid us to get out of the city. We are then headed for Lyceum, the information from Rivereye must get there." She holds onto her right shoulder with her left hand and rolls it around a little.
"To explain, we need that intel, then we need to high tail it out of here. The dangers will be great as the Resistance as you well know is under scrutiny. Not to mention there is bounty on magic users' heads, and we have 4 sitting in this room." Torrent motions to the newcomers. "Do you two have anything we might know or any ideas for a way forward?"
I know Lescol got information of a contact as well but he hasn't brought it up yet so Torrent hasn't mentioned it to the newcomers.

Nilus Romerus |

Nilus spent quite a few years campaigning for one army or another also, the Greathelm will only be worn when Nilus is sure that combat is coming. He is usually only wearing the chain shirt
Mayhap I can see if some of my old compatriots still run with the City Guard. It might be possible to persuade them to turn a blind eye
I couldn't remember what the name for the local military was called

Kaive Foefeather |

Kaive shrugs his scrawny shoulders and tips his head back to stare at the ceiling.
"I can move unseen when necessary," he muses, "Either by sticking to the shadows, or by assuming a disguise. I don't think either approach would work so well with such a large group of people to hide. Mayhaps there are secret ways out of the city, but I don't know of any. I'm a monk, not a smuggler."
A thirsty monk!" he adds, raising his voice so it can be heard in the back room.

GM_Radiance |

@Nilus: The gate pass military don't have any special name, they can be called city guard or just gate pass military. With regards to helmet, cool just tell me when you have it on or off.
Also I guess it's worth stating this again, unless you ask for a roll I will pick the relevant skill and assume you are taking 10 as the system is designed for that in Radiance. If you wish to roll just say "I would like to do X" then roll the associated skill, just remember if you roll lower than 10 you can't then take 10 :P
Nilus knows a few of the local military which could help, the only problem he finds is that sneaking out magic users will not be acceptable even by his contact standards. The Ragesian Inquisitors have put quite a bounty on magic users, foul bunch that they are. Someone will be tempted, it is a dangerous avenue he thinks.
Nilus knows that the inquisitors hunt for dangerous magic (any magic used by other people), and they have special counterspell abilities. Most inquisitors are humans, orcs, or half-orcs, and they carry metal claws on their hands. Many are skilled interrogators; they use their claws to slit prisoners’ wrists, forcing swift answers.
Torrent leans back in her chair. "Okay, once we're out of the city I have a far better idea on what to do. We will take a little travelled road south of the town towards the Innenotdar Fire Forest. Beyond there we can then get to Dassen where Lyceum is."
Yersil has all the knowledge checks, so botting his character for him to say the following.
Yersil says: For those interested on the destination. Lyceum is a school devoted to teaching magic of all sorts. It is located in the
small town of Seaquen, on the rocky tip of a marshy peninsula in southern Dassen. Students often travel far to learn foreign magic.
The head of Lyceum, a diviner named Simeon, has visited all the major cities in the region and has friends and contacts among the
mages of those cities. He founded his school to encourage solidarity among magic-users, and to find ways to use magic for the benefit of
everyday people. Many governments think of him as a meddler. He is primarily an advisor for nobles and rich merchants. He has recruited a
cadre of talented warmages and battle clerics, and has offered Seaquen’s harbor as a home port for the Wayfarers, a group of magically-
inclined entertainers, to both make his school seem more legitimate and to discourage Dassen from trying to levy taxes against it.
Torrent stares in amazement You know more of the Academy than I do, and I used to attend...anyway I did receive a sending spell from the Academy to meet up there which is why I am bringing the intel from Rivereye. We would just teleport but... something is amiss with all teleportation magic. Something foul they don't know what."
The conversation falls silent for a moment while the group digests the information. Torrent realizes the lady hasn't come back yet. "Mrs Finner, you alright?"
Then Lescol and Kaive can hear a creak from upstairs. Gil checked there earlier and knew that no-one was there... what's going on?
Moving to round by round actions, we won't worry about initiative just yet. Just post what you will do this round. Map posted, you can find it at the top of the thread or on your campaign pages as "Current map" You are all around the table in the common room for the moment. Ignore the Xs on the map for now, they'll come into play in a bit.

Lescol |

"I feel that we are betrayed...just as I expected."
Lescol readies his shield and draws his longsword. "Get ready to run!"
Lescol will attempt to move quietly to a spot near the stairs but still out of sight of anyone coming down the stairs. His goal will be to suprise anyone coming down the stairs. Stealth Check +4: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 Yikes :-(

Kaive Foefeather |

"Run where?" Kaive asks, vaulting over the bar and rummaging around until he finds anything even remotely alcoholic, "If they know that we're in here, they'll already have the place surrounded."
Uncorking the bottle with his beak, the tengu monk drinks deeply, then wipes his chin with the back of his sleeve. Flipping the twin scythes that he carries at his belt up into his hands, Kaive crouches down behind the bar and waits for things to kick off.
If this is a pub, did Mr Finner keep a weapon of some description behind the bar, to discourage rowdy drunks from becoming too disruptive? Perception check if necessary...
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Fingers crossed for an arcane shotgun...! (only joking)

Nilus Romerus |

Nilus draws his longsword and moves to the base of the stairs.
Currently Nilus is wearing his 2 swords and his chain shirt, his other gear is stored in his room at the local inn Since I'm not sure how you wanna do my defensive hamper roll I'm gonna roll dice in combat to represent my hamper attempts for each rounds
hamper: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

GM_Radiance |

Torrent scowls at Lescol "Let's not be too pessimistic just yet about betrayals..." Torrent gets up and twirls her wrist a bit and a bracelet she has on glows. In her hands appears a decently sized battle axe that she readies for the worst.
Lescol runs beneath the staircase ready to attack anyone that comes near.
Nilus stands near Torrent with his swords drawn. With regards to your gear your character would know he wouldn't be back for a while after he leaves town. (I don't want you to lose gear at this point) So it's fine for you to be carrying it, you have enough slots from what I can tell to carry it all. With Defensive block, if someone triggers it I will roll it for you since you get one every turn.
Kaive behind the counter does not find a arcane shotgun but does find a regular shotgun. It is tucked behind some glasses and cases. The shotgun is loaded but there isn't any spare ammo about, so making the shots count will be useful. You'll need firearms proficiency to wield it without a -5 penalty
Kaive also spots a large morning star, doubtful Mr.Finner could use it but it looks really menacing. More than enough to scare the local drunks, you are unsure how scary it will be to armed assailants.
Gil walks into the kitchen and sees that it is empty aside from what he'd expect to find here. He beings to move towards the doorway to the storage room to see if Mrs.Finner is alright.
The group can hear distant muted thumps fill the air, like the sound of
ripe fruit landing on the roof of a house. Torrent begins to get worried, looking at the roof suspiciously then whispers rather loudly: "The Ragesians... they can't be attacking now?!"

Lescol |

The group can hear distant muted thumps fill the air, like the sound of ripe fruit landing on the roof of a house. Torrent begins to get worried, looking at the roof suspiciously then whispers rather loudly: "The Ragesians... they can't be attacking now?!"
"Of course they can be. At least we can take a few of them down with us before we all die horrible, gruesome, excruciating deaths. Don't say I didn't tell you so." Despite his words, you can see Lescol's demeanor actually improve as he looks forward to the combat.

Nilus Romerus |

Nilus will be grabbing his shield and great helm ASAP then for a dr 7.
Niles would probably understand the sound to mean flaming torches.
Nilus whispers to Lescol You've got the stairs covered. I'm going check the street
Nilus says to the room in a louder tone. we definitely have company. The roof is probably on fire. as Nilus does this he moves across the room to his pack and snatches his shield. He then positions himself near the main door and motions Kaive to do the same at the side door. He then peeks out the front door.
Nilus now has his long sword shield and chain shirt equipped dr 6. I know I'm posting a bunch, if other people post their actions I'm cool with assuming it takes Nilus a few rounds to do this

Kaive Foefeather |

Kaive sees Nilus motioning for him to leave the dubious safety/cover of the bar, but pretends not to have. The tengu monk is perfectly happy where he is for the time being. If he's going to die, he wants to die within armsreach of something alcoholic. Lescol's pessimism is clearly infectious, much like the other diseases that Kaive imagines the unsightly swordsman must be carrying.

GM_Radiance |

Gil hears naught inside the room, peering into the storage room and he finds Mrs Finner lying sprawled on the floor with her eyes turned a misty purple. She appears to be unconscious however or at least immobile.
The group then hears from outside the deep rumbling voice of male shout: "Front door: go!" The group then hears a slam against the door.
Break check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
The front door buckles under the force of a small battering ram and 2 thugs walk in brandishing swords. One of them shouts to the group. "Drop your weapons and come quietly, We don't want to break your valuable little heads!"
I will roll everyone's initiative for simplicity's sake.
Gil: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Kaive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Nilus: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Lescol: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Thugs: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Lescol |

Apologies if I mess this up...first combat using this rule set.
"LITTLE HEADS?!!!? No one insults the size of my head and lives"
Swift Action: Cast Shield (you conjure a shimmering shield of force that provides you +2 DR. The shield lasts 2 minutes and also provides total immunity to the Magic Missile ability. Costs 1 vitality). Updated DR and Vitality are shown in Character Description
Move Action: Move to engage the closest foe. However, if a enemy magic user shows up and is move range, Lescol will engage that target in preference to a non-magic user.
Standard Action: Attack with Cold Iron Longsword Attack Roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Damage Damage Roll: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Kaive Foefeather |

Kaive darts around the bar and flings himself into melee with the first enemy through the front door, his twin scythes spinning around his feathery form, as though he stands in the eye of a cyclone of steely death. (Flurry of Blows to attack twice with a -2 penalty....)
Attack 1: 1d20 + 1 + 3 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 3 + 1 - 2 = 8
assuming I hit, damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Attack 2: 1d20 + 1 + 3 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 3 + 1 - 2 = 6
assuming I hit, damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Well, that could not have been more rubbish. :(
