The kobold looks at his toes for a moment, then nods. "Shaman's room is farthest from room below. If those that do not fight are allowed to live, we will make new tribe somewhere else. These tunnels cursed and killed our tribe. The king and shaman make it worse. They must die."
His voice is firm, but sadly quiet as he concludes his statement.
Pixie Rogue |
"Mines just another tunnel, but king mistress think there be shiny good-good there, so she tell king to make digging there. I know it link to rest of warren at slurk kennel, but there be another tunnel, too. It go other direction, so I don't think it link to rest of warren."
He shrugs, "You look, you find out, if want to."
Pixie Rogue |
"Lekmek. He very strong kobold. Thin little legs, big shoulders, big arms. Carries big pick for mining or for fighting. Wears metal hat, protect him from falling rocks." He looks around like he will get punished for saying the next part. Using his clawed hands to push his chin toward his forehead, shortening the vertical distance of his face, he gives himself a scowling look. "Face like this." Motioning as though pushing his snout back into his face, he adds, "Nose like this."
This description sounds very familiar to Gilgar. One of the kobolds that successfully struck him looked just like this, including a steel mining helmet that Gilgar nearly flattened with the killing blow.
Pixie Rogue |
I thought that sounded familiar! Did I kill him? I can't remember. It's been so LOOOONG...
Indeed you did, here... From the battle
Gilgar |
"I ain't sure if rilin' up miners'd be uh waste uh time 'r no." Gilgar huffs. "I'm fer marchin' room tuh room, killin' them buggers tha' is stupid 'nuff tuh stand 'n fight till we finds our priz'ner..."
You may be getting the impression that Gilgar is possibly overwhelmed by the complexity of the issue, and has thus taken up a bulldozer mentality about the whole thing... Or maybe not.
Pixie Rogue |
As a reminder, the allied kobold spellcaster said that the stewpot was trapped so no more than one human/elf/dwarf or three kobold/halfling would be able to use it without it collapsing. Glenna and Perrin could go down together, but not Nox and Perrin. The three kobolds could make it in one trip.
Assuming there are no concerns with that plan, I'll need to know whether you wish to exit to the left (where Gilgar bottled up the attackers yesterday) or to the right (where the kobold says the mines are).
Pixie Rogue |
It appears there is no ambush forthcoming. Gilgar, Graymoon, Glenna, Nox, and Perrin plus the three kobolds find themselves ready to proceed into the mines without incident.
The bodies from yesterday's battle do not appear to have been disturbed since you fell back to rest. The magical web has disappeared from both tunnels.
The tunnel to the right (to the mines) starts out large enough, but it soon drops to a height less than comfortable for a dwarf or an elf. The rest of the group is able to proceed through it without issue, but the tall folk have to stoop and hope any fighting waits until there's more headroom.
After a few dozen feet of the cramped tunnel, the ceiling lifts and you find yourselves in a cavern filled with rocky overhangs and jutting boulders. Gilgar is pretty sure from a quick scan of the formations that the chance of lucrative mining happening here is not good. Speaking of which, you do not hear any mining activity. Really, the only sound you have heard since leaving the lift room has been each other.
Checks, plans, questions?
Pixie Rogue |
Nox can tell where they were working, but can't find any signs of anything worthwhile, so he's not sure what they were looking for. The kobold calls is "shiny good good".
Perrin detects a scent forward and left from where the party came out.
They find that there are three passages out of the cavern - the one you entered through, one to the left where Perrin detects a scent, and one to the right.
Pixie Rogue |
Perrin moves along the dark tunnel, nose to the ground, in the light (hmm... who's providing the light?), Graymoon padding along quietly just behind him. They come to a chamber, the walls and floors of which are covered with slime. They stop and wait for the rest of the party to join them before entering the slime-covered area.
Perception checks, please.
Pixie Rogue |
The dwarven barbarian growls something about "more big frogs" just as a tell-tale whistle comes through the air.
Before anyone can react, a crossbow bolt sails in from across the room.
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Graymoon Fort DC 14: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
The small bolt catches the ranger by surprise and it buries itself in his shoulder. "By the stars above, that burns! Another one using poison?"
Roll for initiative. Only Gilgar and the other kobolds can actually see the attacker at this time, but you have a pretty good idea where he fired the shot from.
Pixie Rogue |
Your darkvision was as important as your skill - and I rolled it for you in my DM spoiler, anyway.

The kobold leader points into the darkness (for most of you) and cries out in his people's tongue.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
The kobold warriors ready their slings and delay, apparently waiting for a response.
You hear laughter, derisive in any language, and one of the warriors lets fly with his sling.
Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Across the chamber you hear another crossbow bolt being jacked into place and another bolt comes out of the darkness. If you didn't know where he was before, you are pretty sure now - direction if not distance. Call it your two o'clock as you face into the room.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Once again, Graymoon is struck. "Someone give me some light!"
Nox is up.
Graymoon |
Hmm, interesting question. Let's say with two missiles, you have a 25% chance of targeting the right spot and then a 50% chance of hitting it. Casting light is a standard action. If you also fire, that will happen next round, but you can hand it to Graymoon and have him shoot it instead and use your move action to do something else. Assuming you do:
How's his aim?: 1d100 ⇒ 42
Did he hit what he aimed at?: 1d100 ⇒ 64
His aim was off and his missed what he aimed at, anyway.
Which way was he off?: 1d8 ⇒ 6 Down and left
Which way did he miss?: 1d8 ⇒ 6 Down and left some more
Misjudging the height of the floor in the darkness, Graymoon skips the arrow across the floor. As it goes, it leaves furrows in a strange translucent gel-fluid seen everywhere in the room before coming up against the far wall.
While it missed him, it had a benefit - you can see the sneering kobold reloading his crossbow where he sits astride a slurk on the far side of the room.
Also, the arrow gets the attention of a second beast and another slurk appears from the corner ahead and to your left, a strangely motionless rider on its back.
Gilgar |
Knowing that he's going to have to deal with not only the monsters, but also the room itself, Gilgar grunts and moves into the slime-covered room...
I'm assuming moving across the room's going to require some checks, so... Take whichever...
Ref Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Dex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
[ooc]With rolls that lousy, I doubt I'll get there, but just on the off chance, Gilgar attacks the slurk with the kobold on it.
