Dwarf Barbarian

Glaring past the rabble and fodder, Gilgar searches for whatever is back there that would put enough fear into these little rats to send them scurrying to certain death at his hands... He wants a real fight...

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

The reason is fairly clear and just out of reach. You have little doubt the stout kobold - he's like a half-sized scaly dwarf - is what's driving them forward. He's the black-colored icon.

Round 3
18 Glenna Casting Acid Splash
17 One Kobold Tries to pass Gilgar
11 Nox Fires an arrow
10 Four Kobolds One strikes Gilgar
06 Gilgar Destroys another kobold
03 Graymoon Delays

End of Round 3

Glenna casts the same spell again, flinging a small orb down the passage, targeting the burly kobold in the back.

Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Her strike is on-target again, but the scream is not one of pain, but of rage.

Round 4
18 Glenna Casting Acid Splash at the boss (?)
11 Nox Is up!
10 Three Kobolds
06 Gilgar
03 Graymoon

Male Elf Druid 4

Nox will fire again at whichever kobold is in clear view.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 bow attack
1d6 ⇒ 5 arrow damage

Nox threads an arrow in alongside Gilgar, striking down the kobold injured by Glenna's earlier victim. The last two kobolds move forward to engage with the dwarf.

Each of them provoke an attack of opportunity from Gilgar. Pick your victim and take a swing, sir.

Dwarf Barbarian

Any ol' victim will do! *Makes mental note to pick up Combat Reflexes*

Enlarged AoO 1-handed MW Adamantine Warhammer Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Enlarged MW Adamantine Warhammer 1-handed damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 2) + 3 = 11

Gilgar actually giggles as more carnage splatters one the floor, walls, and enemies in front of him...

Chooser, odd is closest, even is farther: 1d20 ⇒ 2

Gilgar swings his hammer at the 'boss' kobold, hitting him solidly, but without the satisfying obliteration that hitting the mooks had been providing.

GM Note:
Boss: down 14 hp

The heavily-muscled kobold grunts from the impact of the massive hammer and shouts at the other kobold to "Make way!". The smaller creature steps back and the target of Gilgar's last attack moves in with purpose.

He swings his heavy pick, a murderous gleam in his eye, and it looks like he put some pepper on the swing. But does it hit?

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

And Gilgar is up - that last attack was his attack of opportunity.

GM Screen:

1d20 ⇒ 2
1d20 ⇒ 2

Also, I need a Perception roll from Gilgar.

"I think I see flame - they might be opening up this tunnel, too."

Dwarf Barbarian

Gilgar returns the swing with velocity, his eyes bugged out and bloodshot, as he snarls grimly at an actual threat. "Right, ye dumb lizard! C'mon well!"

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

1-handed MW Adamantine Warhammer Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
MW Adamantine Warhammer 1-handed damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 3) + 3 = 10

Round 4
18 Glenna Casting Acid Splash at the boss (?)
11 Nox Shoots and kills a kobold mook
10 Kobolds Move forward, provoking AoO and attack Gilgar
06 Gilgar Hits with AoO, misses with regular attack
03 Graymoon Moves adjacent to Gilgar, readies

GM Screen:

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15

Graymoon, looking concerned at the damage the dwarf is taking, moves over adjacent. "Hey, big fella, let a guy have a chance, wouldja?"

A 5' step back will allow Graymoon to get his sword in the mix while the dwarf can still attack. Just sayin'. I would allow that 5' step retroactively if you want to take it.

The elf readies an action to attack the first kobold to come into reach.

End of round 4

Gilgar:
You see another kobold slip into the hallway behind these two (on the map). He's lurking like he's trying to avoid being seen. Sneaky-like, like someone that doesn't fight fair...

"Gilgar! Step left when I say now! Ready, set, now!"

When the dwarf dodges left from another attack from the pick-wielding kobold, a stroke of lightning passes by on his right and strikes the scarred lizard full on in the chest, raising a distinct smell of cooked meat and causing him to scream in rage.

Elemental Ray (Lightning): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

With a distinctly disturbing smile, she moves over to where Graymoon was watching the other tunnel.

Nox is up!

Map update

Dwarf Barbarian

Gilgar complies with Graymoon's request to get into the fight, moving over (5' step) per Graymoon's timing (or as soon after as possible).

I'm picturing D1L1. Correct? This would also give Nox a firing lane between the two melee fighters.

Dwarf Barbarian

Yes. Sorry. Forgot to include coordinates.

Not a concern. Nox is up!

Male Elf Druid 4

First in line gets targeted

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 bow attack

fumble check

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 bow attack

Nox' arrow is about three feet too high after a quick adjustment to avoid hitting Gilgar. It disappears into the darkness accompanied by hissing.

The husky kobold steps forward to engage the dwarf, oblivious to the ranger waiting, and triggers Graymoon's triggered action.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 = 12 Include FE
Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 Include FE

A miss! Aware of the additional foe, the little kobold must choose (Gilgar odd, Graymoon even). Choose: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Continuing his attacks on the dwarf,

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Two javelins come out of the darkness of the cave followed by the tell-tale whistle of something being swung in the air - a chain, perhaps. Both javelins are directed toward the enlarged and enraged one.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 6 - 4 = 8
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Attack: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 6 - 4 = 4
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4

Misses!

Gilgar:
The second javelin came from a second new kobold that you did not spot earlier, hiding in the tunnel. He has readied and begun swinging a spiked chain.

Gilgar is up!

Dwarf Barbarian

Gilgar flies into a rage, complete with gnashing teeth, frothy mouth, and unintelligible rantings as he swings hard at the apparent boss kobold.

1-handed MW Adamantine Warhammer Attack + Raging: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
MW Adamantine Warhammer 1-handed damage + Raging: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 5) + 5 = 16

Round 5
18 Glenna Uses her energy ray on the boss
11 Nox Shoots at the boss, but misses
10 Kobolds Boss moves forward, provoking readied action (a miss) and attack Gilgar (a miss in return); two javelins come from the darkness
06 Gilgar Drives the boss into the ground, killing him (1 rd rage)
03 Graymoon is up

Graymoon steps 5' (R1U1) and readies an action to strike the next kobold to come into reach.

The sound of running feet can be heard from the tunnel.

Glenna delays, watching the second tunnel.

Nox is up!

Male Elf Druid 4

Nox fires again if he can see a kobold, otherwise he will ready for when he can see one.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 bow attack
1d6 ⇒ 3 arrow damage

With a shot like that, you have a choice.

When the boss kobold falls to Gilgar's hammer, the eyes of the minion right behind him go very wide and he starts to turn to flee. As he does so, Nox can spy a third kobold behind him, whirling a weapon of some sort. This new arrival appears to be planning to enter the fray.

Which kobold do you shoot?

Male Elf Druid 4

I shoot the one in back, whirling the weapon.

Coming forward cautiously, two kobolds wielding spiked chains approach the end of the tunnel.

The first, wounded by Nox' arrow, stops when he can reach the dwarf and attacks, but he does so while avoiding any openings.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 4 = 19 Fighting defensively
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

The second tries to slip by his ally and attack the elf, also defensively.

Acrobatics to move without provoking: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

I believe that avoids provoking an attack of opportunity from Gilgar.

Attack if he survives: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 6 - 4 = 17
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Gilgar's up! He can reach either of the two chain-wielding kobolds. The pick-wielder is out of reach and out of sight.

Dwarf Barbarian

Gilgar, taking none-too-kindly to being whacked with a spiked chain, takes a brutal swing at his foe, trying to either reduce it to pulp, or perhaps knock it into another plane of existence...

1-handed MW Adamantine Warhammer Attack + Raging: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
MW Adamantine Warhammer 1-handed damage + Raging: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (5, 3) + 5 = 13

Nice shot.

The blow staggers the kobold, but you recognize the look of fanaticism in his reptilian eyes. You've seen it in your cousin's before a drinking contest. When there's just no stopping him.

Graymoon tries to emulate the dwarf, but with finesse.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 = 27
Damage: 1d8 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 2 = 13

Confirmation: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 = 10

Aw! No crit. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why you fight defensively.

Glenna delays because the boys seem to have the fight well in hand.

Nox is up!

All of you clearly hear the sound of running from before and it's getting closer, then it slows down.

Nox:
You see a flash, perhaps a reflection on a blade, down the tunnel, but it's too far for your lowlight to penetrate.

Edit: The two chain-wielding kobolds are in range, etc, but you will have a -4 penalty to shoot into melee if that's your intention.

Male Elf Druid 4

Nox will delay until he has a target that is not in melee. (readied action)

Round 6
18 Glenna Delays
11 Nox Readies action
10 Kobolds Are up!
06 Gilgar
03 Graymoon

The clear sound of spellcasting comes from the tunnel, but the voice is thin and reedy, quavering but confident.

In response, a shouted challenge echoes down the tunnel and a third kobold, dressed in almost ceremonial armor runs into the room. Using the kobolds already present, he attempts to avoid AoO until he's in position to strike with his own weapon (spiked chain). Probably unwisely, this tactic places him directly between the enlarged dwarf and the ranger.

(Odd for Gilgar, Even for Graymoon: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Before he even stops his movement, the kobold whips his chain at Gilgar, targeting his hammer.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Fumble?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Badly misjudging the dwarf's swing, his disarm attempt is not even close.

The other two kobolds fighting defensively.

vs. Gilgar: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 6 - 4 = 10
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

vs. Graymoon: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 6 - 4 = 15
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Gilgar is up!

Dwarf Barbarian

Gilgar glowers down at the new target, and attempts to turn it into so much colorfully clad paste...

1-handed MW Adamantine Warhammer Attack + Raging + assumed flank: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
MW Adamantine Warhammer 1-handed damage + Raging: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2) + 5 = 10

(3rd rnd of rage?)

Male Elf Druid 4

With the new guy standing between, he should be clear to shoot at.

1d20 ⇒ 13 bow attack
1d6 ⇒ 5 arrow damage

Gilgar wrote:

(3rd rnd of rage?)

Actually only second, starting third

Nox La'Athvanna wrote:

It's more about him bobbing and weaving in melee than if an ally were in the way, but your misses without threatening an ally either way.

Attacking the newcomer, Graymoon takes advantage of the target's flanked situation.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 + 2 = 16 Base, Favored Enemy, Flanked
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 + (2) = 16 Base, Favored Enemy, Sneak Attack

As the kobold pulls back on his spiked chain preparing for another attack, Graymoon's curved blade slips in through a gap in the chain and end his threat for good.

Myrmidon 1 down.

Round 7
18 Glenna Delays again
10 Kobolds Are up!
07 Nox Moved to where last round's action occurred
06 Gilgar Completed 3rd rage round
03 Graymoon

A cry of dismay follows Graymoon's slaying of the chain-wearing and -wielding kobold.

The sound of more spellcasting comes from the tunnel in the same thin, reedy voice. Glenna says, "I know that voice! He's the one I stole the dagger from!" She holds up the small dagger, "He was going to use it to sacrifice the children, so I took it with me." She gives a firm nod of the head as though that's what any normal person would do.

A second kobold wearing chainmail charges into the room, carelessly. He provokes from Gilgar and, if he survives that long, from Graymoon.

In the unlikely event that he makes it through the gauntlet, he will move past the flanked position before attacking Graymoon with his spiked chain.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

The other two kobolds fighting defensively.

vs. Gilgar: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 4 = 6
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

vs. Graymoon: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 6 - 4 = 16
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Gilgar, make your AoO and your regular attack, please!

Confirmation for the AoO Victim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Dwarf Barbarian

AoO

1-handed MW Adamantine Warhammer Attack + Raging: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
MW Adamantine Warhammer 1-handed damage + Raging: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 5) + 5 = 12

Round's attack

1-handed MW Adamantine Warhammer Attack + Raging: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
MW Adamantine Warhammer 1-handed damage + Raging: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3) + 5 = 12

Who did you target with the regular attack?

To keep things moving, I will assume that Gilgar's a fan of finishing what he started.

The dwarf's first shot at the incoming myrmidon leaves it staggered not in game terms and reeling. The second blow sends it to whatever maker awaits it.

Nox literally has to step aside lest the broken body hit him as it slides to a stop.

Which brings us to Graymoon...

Graymoon, seeing the newcomer fall, focuses on his previous target.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 2 = 24 Base, Favored Enemy
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7 Base, Favored Enemy

A masterful feint has the kobold blocking high while the sword dips low and in, staggering in game terms; limited to one action per round the creature.

Allow me to correct an oversight: The warriors are concentrating on their foes, but Nox can see another kobold moving down the passage after the last fateful charge. He is not engaged in melee, but he has his allies (your foes) as soft cover. You may take the shot without concern for your allies if you wish. You may not hit the intended kobold...

I appear to have missed Nox with Gilgar's double attack opportunity, so Nox is up if he wants to take an action.

Male Elf Druid 4

What is the summary of the current battle? How many kobolds are still standing?

They keep coming out of the woodwork, so you are not sure how many remain, but they only seem to be able to come through the bottleneck that Gilgar and Graymoon are flanking.

As far as the ones you are aware of for certain, there are two with spiked chains just short of being flanked by your allies and a newcomer that appears to be the spellcaster you heard. He's an old specimen - almost skeletal in appearance, his white scales only enhancing the effect. The three of them are lined up in front of you, so if you had a lightning bolt available, this would be a good time to use it.
