Definitely number 2! It reminds me of a Lex Luthor quote from that one Superman movie - "Do you know why the number two hundred is so vitally descriptive to both you and me? It's your weight and my I.Q." This guy's got the weight AND the IQ!

Okay I am finally done. I had to stop myself going deeper... It got weird. I spent time looking at property values...

Short and relatively in shape, James leads an active life, or used to. His work has kept him from some of his more active hobbies, hunting and hiking, but has yet to have that much of a visible effect on his body.
On his days off James can usually be found wearing combats and work boots, usually paired with an old black hoodie emblazoned with the letters TCD (Trinity College Dublin) on the back. During the week, however, James wears a collection of finely tailored suits to work, his favourite a graduation present from his oldest sister, upon receiving his Masters Degree.
James wears his hair short and tight to his head and keeps his face clean shaven. He is the picture of a model Agent, clean, sharp and uniform, on the surface at least. James bears a Celtic Trinity on his back, a souvenir from his time spent in his fathers homeland.
James bears the scars of a bullet wound to his abdomen.

James, or Jimmy as his family call him, grew up in a bright, happy, loving home on the outskirts of Pasadena. As a young boy Jimmy spent most of his free time following his Father around his Garage, watching him work and taking in some small pieces here and there. Jimmy was the youngest of four children and he regularly lists his older sisters as three of the most inspiring people in his life, along with his parents.
Jimmy was a happy and bookish young boy, who loved the Great Outdoors. At an early age, twelve or thirteen years old, his father began to include him in his hunting and fishing trips, something that Eva was already a part of. Jimmy and Eva became closer, the year in their age difference melting away till they became more like twins in most respects.
During Highschool Jimmy joined the Track team, and became the Captain of his schools Fencing team. This is also where Jimmy became interested in Role Playing Games, his fall back character being an Elven Rogue with a Rapier. Jimmy spent time working in his fathers garage and saved his money, looking ahead to his future and planning. Jimmy had some friends in highschool but not many as he spent most of his time working with his Father or studying.
When Jimmy graduated Highschool he moved to Berkeley where his sister put him up. Berkeley was a tactical school for Jimmy who planned on studying Biology there, living with the aid of his sister, to save money for his actual goal, to study Criminology in Ireland. During his second year of college, however, things took a turn for the worse, his father suffered a major heart attack and was hospitalised.
Jimmy rushed to his fathers side, managing to reach him just before he passed. His father complimented him on his drive and his plans for the future and implored him to continue as he was. Jimmy felt torn. On one hand he felt he should move home and take over for his father, hire a mechanic but keep the business alive, on the other, his father had told him to follow his dream, to study and do what he wanted.
Jimmy returned to Berkeley after the funeral, all ready to drop out of college and move home, till his sister's intervened. Between the three of them they convinced Jimmy to sign off his part of the Garage and sell. The money would go to their mother and towards his schooling.
Jimmy graduated in 08 and moved to Dublin the following year to begin his Masters. During his time in Dublin he connected with his fathers family and country. Jimmy became entranced by the rich historical and mythical heritage of the country and even, much to his shame today, became a practicing Wiccan for awhile. (Reports vary but one tale is told of a drunken ceremony on the Hill of Tara, a powerful Druidic site in Ireland, where by Jimmy married his then girlfriend of the time, Saoirse o’Ceariuill. The marriage was later dissolved, on extremely good terms.)
After graduating in the top percentile, from his Masters in Trinity College Dublin, Jimmy moved back to the states in 2010. He moved to New York and joined the NYPD, intending to spend his three years of professional service there, before applying for a position in the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
On February 10th 2012, at 6am, Jimmy was rushed to the Lincoln Medical Centre, 234 East 149th St in a critical condition. Jimmy had been patrolling his beat, as usual, when a call went out for Officer assistance at a residence just around the corner for him. Jimmy responded and made his way on to the scene. A man, Carl Kennedy, had barricaded himself in to his room in the apartment he shared with his girlfriend and was refusing to come out, threatening to kill himself, if she continued with her plan to leave him.
Jimmy arrived on the scene first, followed quickly by a fellow officer by the name of Frank Potts. The two Officers began to talk the man down and had even managed to convince him to open the bedroom door, but not to put the gun down. Everything was progressing in a positive fashion, till things became heated, when the woman stressed she would still be leaving. Jimmy saw the tide turning and saw the man begin to raise his gun, not to aim at anyone else, but at himself. Jimmy charged the man, along with Potts, and began to wrestle the gun from his hand in an act of desperation. A tussle ensued and the gun misfired, Jimmy taking a bullet to the stomach before the man released the gun and fell back, horrified.
Jimmy pulled through the injury, obviously, and even testified at Kennedys case, stating that the shooting had been an accident and the man had obviously been mentally unwell at the time, in the hopes that it would earn him a lighter, fairer sentence. His plan was pushed further back however, as he could not return to active duty for a few months, following the injury. He spent this time reconnecting with his family and his hometown.
Four years after joining the NYPD, James found himself in training once again, this time in the Federal Bureau of Investigations training centre. His Masters in Criminology, coupled with his exemplary record and a glowing recommendation from his Captain in the NYPD, made James a strong candidate and, after the 20 week training programme, James was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division in San Francisco, returning to his home State.

Speaking of property, everyone should have a rough idea of where in (or around) the city their characters live. For reference, the campaign will begin at this real life game store. Feel free to pick an area randomly, do some research, or give me an idea of the kind of place you want to live and I'll pick for you.

Well this seems hilarious and fun, and I've been hoping to try out Call of Cthulhu at some point. Lemme roll some stuff for the Investigator here and I'll try to get something together at some point shortly...

Huh... Large and smart. Interesting.
Just realized I probably screwed this up and should have rolled the 2d6+6s with the 3d6s, but if I reformat now all the dice will change. GAH
Think that's all the rolling I have to do. Gonna repost the selected results outside the spoiler for easy reference and I'll definitely think about characters!

Eh, I kinda like the challenge of working with a background to make it all make sense.
Income: 1d10 ⇒ 5 So looking at like a combined income of 80k. Personal Fitness Instructor+Disability pay. That should be managable given his education yes?
Oakland is actually doable to own a house with something along the lines of 250k

I'll take array 2. I like the numbers more. I'm thinking of making a teaching assistant/struggling author type of character. As for my adventurer, I'm thinking a human cleric of Desna.
Haladir |
I didn't have time last night to finish her character sheet, but I'll be submitting Jenn DuBois, adjunct professor of anthropology at Stanford University.
And, just to make things even more confusing for terminology, I think her AFRPG character will be an Investigator. (Still working that out...)
Awnara Puddyfoot |
Whoa! How did this thread explode without my noticing?
@DeathsAdorableApprentice: If you've been noticing my references to Awnara's player's SO, I've kept them remarkably gender-neutral. As a San Franciscan, she's definitely a dyed-in-the-wool liberal and has quite a few LGBTQ friends. I hadn't quite decided where she fell on the Kinsey scale yet, but certainly had at least a fling or two with other girls at Berkeley. If you're looking at making a female character as well, she's at least bisexual if not identifies as a lesbian. Let me know where you're going, and I'll see where my writing takes her as I put pen to paper.
Jenn DuBois |
I haven't played CoC in a very long time, and I'm forgetting how high skill ranks should be to determine general competency in the field.
Anyway, submitted for your consideration is Jennifer DuBois, Ph.D., adjuncy professor of anthropology at Stanford University.
("Adjunct," meaning "non-tenure-track," meaning "at the bottom of the academic food chain.")
Deaths Adorable Apprentice |
my computer is wigging out but on the Stanford website it said the average tuition was 25,000 and yearly it would cost people around 88,000 a year to cover living, books, and tuition. So I am thinking the rich parents are going to be a thing. Not working for money instead she will focus on her schooling and some charity work. Since I don't get to be the Pretty Woman ;)
I just need to figure out what the parents do for money. Awnara do you want to be living together or shall I put myself in the dorms?

Hi, Jack!
Nice to meet you at the AdventureFinder Society games! It's been a while since I've played in a private game, and I've been wanting to play in the Corpse Coronet AP since it came out a few years ago. I'm a big fan of Gothic horror. I think I'm going to watch the original 1932 version of Dracula with Bela Lugosi to get into the mood!
So, here's my character: Pontia Baradin, human rogue.
I built her with the Unchanied Rogue rules from the new AdventureFinder Unchained rulebook. Is that OK?
Anyway, I have some papers to grade now. I'll see you at the store!

Status Update: As of this moment it seems that 7 people (Misroi, Storyteller Shadow, Ian Flemming, Haladir, tieflingwizard, Death's Adorable Apprentice, and DarkestHeart) have at least a concept for both investigator and adventurer. This Sunday is when I'll be closing the recruitment to any who don't haven't given at least a concept (for both characters). After that I'll give everyone a bit more time to finish up their characters, and then I'll make the final pick. I've yet to decide how many characters and if I want two tables or not.

Hey, I was wondering if I could get some help with where I'm living and buying my assets. I was hoping to do something similar as Jenn and Darkestheart, but I'm a tad confused on a few things.
Like, do I need to buy things individually or can I put it down as 'miscellaneous' like Darkestheart did? Also, Jenn listed that she has student loans and such. Do I need to have listed or not? I would imagine that since my investigator went to school and became a teaching assistant, that he would have student loans. Would that be right? And how much in student loans?
Also, Jack, you said that you would help pick out some property for our characters if we need the help. Could I get some help?
