I imagine him being a TA for a college. As for the writing, he has published minor works (such as papers, short stories, etc), but he's struggling to make ends meet with his writing. He is struggling to write that big novel, his "magnum opus". That book that will launch him and allow him to make it as an author.
And his preferred genres to write is fantasy, historical fiction or books on history, something that allows him to use his knowledge in history to his advantage.
Historical Fiction: Things like his own stories set into different time periods, stories that set in alternate realities (like: what would happen if the Americans lost the Revolutionary War, what would happen if the Roman Empire didn't fall, etc.).
Historical Non-Fiction: Books and the different eras of history and the different elements of historical figures.
Fantasy: Creating his own world with different elements of history and myth. This is probably why he likes Adventurefinder so much.

Would you like me change the Oosimir Pera-Blooded (Slimberkin) back to Aasimar Peri-Blooded (Emberkin)? I need an aliases for the Adventurefinder and the Investigator correct? And for my Investigator is having rich parents, most likely lawyers themselves, alright for how she is able to pay for everything?
I will knock down the free money that she has access to. If I go this way her parents would agree to pay for her schooling, a place to stay, food, and a little play money so long as she maintains her grades and spends time working in some sort of charity like a soup kitchen. If she doesn't take summer classes she has to go help her parents with their work or find a summer job.

@tieflingwizard: Don't worry too much about assets and loans an such - writing things like miscellaneous is fine. How much money you have isn't as important as knowing whether or not you have money to spare - which in the case of a struggling author wouldn't be much. As far as individual purchases writing things like misc. is fine - you're automatically assumed to own everything logical to your character. For example, if you were to spontaneously decide that your character had a small collection of history books in the middle of the game that would be perfectly fine, but you wouldn't be able to magically acquire spelunking equipment unless you specifically listed spelunking as one of your characters hobbies or were some rich dilettante. As far as where you work and live, I'd hold off on that for a liiiiittle bit. I'm strongly leaning towards two tables and if I do you'd probably want to work at one of the same colleges as one of your group members for those sweet, sweet character ties.
@Deaths Adorable Apprentice: Yeah, as much as I get a chuckle out of "oosimar" I'd switch it back to avoid confusion. Also the money thing sounds fine.

I've no time for games at present, but I will definitely be reading this as it comes. just for giggles I am now thinking of myself as that one guy, who isn't in the game, but is always in the store when the game is going on. Never says anything, just browses the stock, or sits two tables over working on his own stuff. Maybe the shopkeepers brother. I am putting way too much thought into an unstated state of mind.

Okay so I have been doing some more research, this time specifically in to Firearm laws in place in California, and I have come up with a list. So as a Federal Agent I would have a right to carry a service weapon and not have to worry about it being concealed (Within reason I mean. I cant open carry unless for a good reason, in the field).
And as a resident of California I would have the right to own a non service handgun, hunting rifle and shotgun, though all three would be registered to my name.
So here is the list of things I would like to purchase, GM approval pending.
Service Weapon
Glock 21 .45ACP Semi-automatic Pistol
Personal Firearms
Hunting Rifle - CZ “Western Series” 550 Badlands Magnum, .338 Lapua - valued at $2,600
Hunting Shotgun - BROWNING BT99 12GA, - valued at $1,690
Personal Handgun - Beretta 8000 Cougar F 9mm, - valued at $???? (Couldn't find an online store with prices)
Misc Equipment
Gun Safe - valued at $1,500
After market Glove box Pistol Safe for vehicle - valued at $???? (Wouldn't even know where to look to find that price but listing it anyway Haha)
Hunting Equipment up to the value of $2,000
Fencing Equipment up to the value of $2,000
Misc "Weaponry"
Antique English Cup Hilt Rapier c.1640 - valued at $5,700

Thanks. I know there wont be stats for the specific weapons I listed so no worries on that, I just picked out the make and model so aesthetically people would be able to visualize the weapons. :) I'll mark it all down on my character sheet.
As for the Pistol Safe add-on to the car, and the Beretta, how do you want to price them? Just so I can take it away from my remaining funds. (I might drop stupid cash on something big later so I'm trying to be as accurate as I can with spending haha)
EDIT: Deleted a post here, trying not to clutter recruitment more than I already have. :P

I've actually been keeping my character's details intentionally vague until I have a better idea of everyone's background so that I can fill up any necessary connections/plot hooks/etc that the party may not have. I did roll stats for him earlier in this thread, so you can get a very, very rough idea of the kind of guy he is. I promise I'll have some more information on him after Sunday.
James: How about we just say that they cost a combined total of $1,500? I have no idea how to price these things. The fencing equipment I could price down to the nearest dollar though!

Personally I'm looking at the Black Rain Ordnance BRO-PG5 Standard Semi-Auto Carbine as my rifle. It'd be a little on the heavy side but having all the mounting brackets is nice. Put a tactical scope on it and a flashlight on the side mount and that'd make me a happy boy.
Pistol wise looking at the Beretta 92FS Inox Semi-Auto Pistol
Should come in after adding in a red dot for the pistol at about 3500 giving me enough to fill up on ammo and at least an extra clip for both.

I'm definitely interested in this.
Array 1
roll 1: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4) = 11
roll 2: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1) = 10
roll 3: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6) = 14
roll 4: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4) = 11
roll 5: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5) = 15
roll 6: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 3) = 14
roll a: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13
roll b: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12
Array 2 -I'll take this one.
roll 1: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 6) = 15
roll 2: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 5) = 13
roll 3: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5) = 10

roll 5: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 2) = 12
roll 6: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2) = 9
roll a: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17
roll b: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11

Silly players, spending all your time picking out guns. In Call of Cthulhu, the things you can kill with bullets are usually the least of your problems!
Yes, life expectancy of gnats I stated on the initial interest thread is actually a quote in the CoC book :-)
Still guns are good to kill those nasty cultists!
OK, DM Rego and Russel are both ready for your review. Let me know if you want me to add anything. Thanks.

Storyteller Shadow |

Psh...if I didn't take care in picking out my guns it wouldn't make for a sound background for a Marine ^^
Well, I suppose that is true.
My potential tire to other characters:
James O'Malley - As an FBI agent I could have worked with him in criminal profiling in my private parctice.
Jenn DuBois - She is a Professor in Anthropology, I have a minor in Anthropology in undergrad. We could belong to an Anthropology club of some sort or I could have met her in University circles giving a Seminar in Anthropological matters.
Death's Adorable Apprentice I would know by virtue of knowing Jenn.
Vincent - If you are a Marine I am not sure how I would know you.
Just throwing some linking ideas out there :0)

Vincent Fleming |

Johnny is retired from the Marines and is currently working as a professional trainer at one of the gyms in San Francisco. So he'll probably still have some ties to the Marines but he visits the local comic and game shops for all his hobbies. As well as the library.
In most states no, but it is easier for them to get carry licenses so long as they have an Honorable discharge. I believe CA is such a state that does not give vets extra benefits. The firearms themselves were purchased while he was in.

Just as a reminder to anyone lurking tomorrow is the deadline for submitting a character concept. You don't need any sort of back story or statblock (the deadline for those will be later), but if you'd like a chance to join you should give me an idea of both the investigator and the adventurer you'd like to play. Even something as simple as "door-to-door salesman - gnome cleric" will suffice, but it needs to be something.

Loup Blanc |

Alright, hopefully I'm still well within the deadline--you said "today" and I'd guess that means by the end of the night tonight or so.
Anyway, I'm looking at my Investigator being a professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies, blending history with spiritualism and occult lore in his classes. He'll be somewhat of an old hand at RPGs, and will most likely take the Homebrew Junkie or perhaps Eloquent Writer meta-traits. He was thrilled when Holler of Huluthulhu was announced, dismayed at its cancellation, and is now happy that Pyzo has brought out the Corpse Coronet.
I'm trying to track down what everyone has put forward so far with character ideas to keep from stepping on toes, but I'm not entirely sure there. However, I think I'll be creating a Magus, likely with the Kensai and/or Bladebound archetypes, who will serve as a skilled swordsman with some magical talent.

Jack Skilleton |

Alright, hopefully I'm still well within the deadline--you said "today" and I'd guess that means by the end of the night tonight or so.
Yep, you've got plenty of leeway here, I'm at work right now and then it's straight to a parade, and then I probably won't even get home tonight so there'll be plenty of time to sneak in any last minute interest.

Newbonomicon |

Alright, so, I found out that Mythweavers has a CoC character sheet, so I made my investigator there. I haven't filled out the birthplace or height sections, because 1) I want him to be a local, and I need to know more about where the campaign takes place for that, and 2) I don't want to fill out the height until I have a better understanding of how SIZ corresponds to height/weight.
Jeremy was a sharp kid, always noticing the little things, and making sure to keep track of all the details. Everyone in his family expected him to go to college and make something of his life. Instead, he left home after high school and got a job at a local security firm. He would have been a cop if he had the patience for it, but having heard of all the paperwork involved in law enforcement, he decided it wasn't for him. He's never played an Adventurefinder campaign before, but now that he's finally been talked into giving it a try, he's perused the online resources thoroughly, and built a character that should fit into any party.
Bastiel Duskwatcher, Urban Ranger
There aren't many elves in Sprucetalav, but everyone knows at least one. Oftentimes, that one is Bastiel, a local mercenary with a knack for finding anything he's looking for, be it person, possession, or place. A spry young fellow, barely a day over 140, but he's taken on plenty of odd jobs, including at least one for Professor Lamarimar; Though, clearly, it meant more to the professor than it did to him.

Loup Blanc |

Question that probably won't be answered for some time: Would I be able to apply Fencing Grace to an estoc rather than a rapier? They're very similar weapons so I figured I'd check.
EDIT: Also now considering a Brawler or other unarmed character of some kind; there's some interesting 3PP support for it if I go that route, and I'm thinking of giving Roy some boxing experience. (Just realized I didn't mention it in the last post--my Investigator character will be named Roy MacArran.)

Alexis Trowner |

Thanks, DAA!
If I recall, CoC doesn't follow a traditional skill point system. When you succeed at a skill roll in game, you make a check mark next to it. When the GM states that an adventure has come to an end, you make another check, this time trying to exceed your total. If you beat it, you earn 1d3 points on that skill. Basically, it's hard to learn a new skill, but there comes a time when you really start picking up on the stuff, followed by a time where it's very difficult to advance again.

Storyteller Shadow |

Avoiding combat whenever possible is the way to survive in CoC though many times battling cultists is the only way to stop the schemes of the Great Old Ones and combat can be unavoidable.
Listen and Spot Hidden are key skills you will want to have at least 50%. An alert Investigator is an Investigator with a chance to survive. There are a number of CoC denizens who can one shot even the toughest PC's.
