Please note that it is dark in here. I assume you have a light source but those without low-light vision have problems due to concealment 20% at range.
This is the infamous Brightbloom Ettin! A large, two-headed humanoid (giant), this one seems to be in a weakened state. For every 5 by which you beat the DC you may ask a question about it.

Knowledge (local): 1d20 ⇒ 10 Got a 10...best I can do untrained.
"From what I have heard in bard songs, and wild stories at pubs...something that big with 2 heads is an ettin. So...guess it is an ettin."
Randolf will reach up quickly to touch the helmet on his head. A golden glow quickly pulses out toward the ettin. His hand flashes back down to grasp the pommel of the dueling sword, as he quickly moves in to hopefully keep it attention to himself and Torgen, and not the other two.
Standard Action: Spend a point of focus (enchantment) to either daze (if creature is 1 HD or less), or (more likely) stagger the creature. The ettin needs a Will Save DC 15 to resist.
Move action: Move into the room, 3 straight south, and one to the south west. And without a +1 BAB...his sword is still in his scabbard.
Swift Action: Wishing he had one of the many powers that occultists get that are swift actions...but doing nothing on this action.

Exactly 1 round....the wonders of being 1st level. But at least it will keep it from getting a full action this round.

Torgen sees the ettin and moves up then swings his hammer.
"All right bub take this"
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

You can now see the runes on the Ettins skin more clearly. These are diabolic runes which could be used to protect giants from draconic beings with the right focus. And the amulet could serve as exactly that focus. Essentially, you assume that Aureliax would not have been able to protect the town as it would not have been able to harm this Ettin.
AoO vs. Torgen because of reach.
The Ettin sees Torgen approaching and swings his flail before Torgen reaches him but he hits the cavern wall with full force.
Flail: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
"I think the ettin is protected by some sort of arcane runes. I don't think the gold dragon Aureliax could harm this creature. That amulet seems to be the focus, and is what makes the runes work."

Knowledge(local): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
It appears Torgen's attack actually damaged him, though? Or is he protected from us as well until we get the amulet?
Meraina moves around the outer range of the ettin's reach, taking position next to Sir Randolf. Can someone move my token one spot to the right of Randolf? Thanks. I believe I can double move to get there without provoking AoO.

Randolf hopes that his spell will work, allowing his allies once more to get into better position. He quickly focuses on the ettin, and then moves into position.
Standard action: Casts Daze (DC 14 Will Save negates. Only works on creatures 4HD or less. This is the spell daze, not an occult power).
Move action: pulls his dueling sword.
5 foot move closer

Torgen swings at the creature. "Torag help me!" He hits it twice slamming the hammer into the ettin.

Round 2
Meraina darts around the dazed Ettin, pulling her dagger.
Eroth beat me on initiative, so he won't get the flanking bonus on his attack.
Round 3
She slashes at the creature with her dagger.
Dagger attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Dagger dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 1

GM Nowruz |

Clinging to the foul skin of the Ettin you find a beautiful, glittering golden pendant in the shape of dragon's head which was smeared with blood. You can easily search the rest of the cavern, finding nothing but filth and a dead woman in her mid-forties.
The woman is probably Gilda Korgren, the mother of the Tiefling, and she also seems to have the runes carved all over her body and it looks as if she died from these injuries and not through the hands of the Ettin.

![]() |

Meraina takes the golden pendant and begins trying to clean it off with a handkerchief, then slips it into her belt pouch.
Do the runes seem recent, then?
"If she was trying to give herself some sort of protections, it appears to have not worked ..."

2nd round, Randolf moves to help flank, though right as he gets there Torgen does the killing blow
Randolf gets closer to the foul dead (or dying) beast, looking at the arcane marks on it, and the amulet. He also quickly looks over the dead body of Gilda, seeing that the marks are apparently similar....and seeing that they looked like what killed her.
Knowledge (arcana) on the marks and anything else about either body: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Perception on both bodies: 1d2 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Looking at the bodies, the runes, and the amulet, trying to see if it is 1) safe to remove and 2) any other possible arcane or unusual things about this.
....and the dice gods hate me....this is the 3rd or so (1) I have gotten in the last couple of days....sigh

GM Nowruz |

You do not find anything else in the caves.
After you have defeated the ettin and recovered the golden pendant, you emerge from the cave to find yourselves ... face to face with Aurelliax in her true form (picture in the slide deck).
She is a magnificent mature adult gold dragon whose presence dwarfs your own.

![]() |

Sir Randolf looks at Aurelliax...almost stumbling as his feet seem to get twisted together as he stumbles to a halt. Quickly attempting to recover his poise, he puts his hand lightly on his pommel, and with the other hand sweeping outward...as he bows deeply to the magnificent gold dragon.
"Dear Magnificent Aurelliax, we are coming back from finding and fighting a foul ettin with arcane symbols and the missing amulet seeming to power some kind of anti-detection or even anti-dragon magic. The person who did this was a tiefling named Gilda Korgren and she was assisted by her son. Two of the towns own population were being coerced into helping them, Richelle and Tolwin I believe their names were. Once we stopped the son from coercing them, they actually helped us with fore knowledge of the ettin and what Gilda was preparing. Please, what can we as Pathfinders do to help assist you or the town with?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 Dice don't fail me now...

![]() |

Torgen chimes in with Sir Randolf setting down his weapons.
"Yes please tell us oh noble dragon how can we aid the town?"
aid: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14

GM Nowruz |

The dragon raises an eyebrow when hearing Sir Randolf's story and the sign of respect that Torgen shows ... silence follows for several seconds.
”Thank you, travelers, for protecting the people of Highdelve, and for recovering my amulet. Truly, you are the heroes these people needed. Let me commend you, as well, for sparing the lives of those children that belong to this town ... I will take care that they are loved and brought back to this community!“

![]() |

Randolf bows deeply and looks at the beautiful statuette. "Thank you for the fine gift. And yes, I would love a lift back to Highdelve."
