Got it!

Grognar's attack will hit. Ezren, were you or the elemental planning on any actions this round? The elemental passed the will save.

Oh yes. I plan to use that crit for the previously rolled attack for the first first attack. Below are those rolls again.

The elemental seems to sense that this giant tried to harm it. And it resented the attempt. It full attacks.

First Attack

Slam: 1d20 + 30 - 5 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 30 - 5 + 2 = 462d10 + 14 + 1 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (7, 5) + 14 + 1 + 10 + 2 = 39

Confirm?: 1d20 + 30 - 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 30 - 5 + 2 = 402d10 + 14 + 1 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (7, 8) + 14 + 1 + 10 + 2 = 42

Second Attack

Slam: 1d20 + 30 - 5 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 30 - 5 + 2 = 382d10 + 14 + 1 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1) + 14 + 1 + 10 + 2 = 34

Ezren is summoning, but if the giant goes down AND he can cancel the spell without penalty he might. If the giant is still up OR Ezren need to complete or loose the spell then he will and I will post again. Let me know.

Sorry for the delay, work is ramping up before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Ezren wrote:

In the interest of keeping the Franken-counter going, I will let you do this as I did not state anything about carrying rolls forwards between rounds. However, going forward, The Statute of Limitation of "re-using" rolls ends during the turn in which they were rolled. Furthermore, the giant remains standing at 203 apparent points of damage after Grognar's and the elemental's attacks.

There are no apparent actions for the intervening period between Ezren and Jeb/Sharton, so I will open things up for their actions as well.

Ezren did cast Haste. He just could not include those where both invisible AND had Mindblank running. Also, just recalled that Ezrel has a full round action left as this summons was started last round.

His summoning complete the wizard moves around the corner as he draws a rod of Lesser Empower and casts magic missiles at the giant.

Spell Pen: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (17) + 23 = 40

Magic Missiles: 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 3, 4) + 5 = 20 So 30 points of force damage.

Ezren's magic missiles leave the giant extremely wounded, which leaves it open to Jebediah's second talon attack that fells the giant. Jeb goes to town on the giant as it collapses in a loud metallic crash of armor, its blood flying in all directions as the dinosaur makes sure to finish the job. Silence finally fills the hallway, with only the distant sound of whistling winds from outside and the faint dripping of blood from giant corpses able to be heard.

There is only one immediate (and unlikely) enemy in your immediate vicinity (the nauseated lamia), who I would be happy to hand-wave away by saying that Ezren sends his freshly summoned T-Rex (and/or the earth elemental) off into the gassy clouds to finish it off. This would mean...Dare I say it...

OUT OF INITIATIVE!!?!?!

I have listed all of the lootz below in the spoiler. Everything listed beneath each creature is the loot per monster. So if there is multiple monsters, the loot listed is multiplied by that number of monsters (e.g. 7 cloud giants = multiply listed loot by 7). To estimate the amount of time it takes for retrieving your spoils, it will take about 1 minute in total to locate/search/remove/stow all loot from one creature. Based on the party's overall Spellcraft bonuses, I have automatically assumed all checks are auto-succeeded unless mentioned otherwise; you are freely welcome to look up any and all information about any of the listed identified items from references.

Grognar will aid Sharton for a +4. Spellcraft: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36

"This rune hear is actually similar to this divine rune that means....

Secret GM Roll:
Ego Sharton: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (15) + 19 = 34

Spellcraft (Sharton, or others with DC 31):
The sword is one of the Alara'hai, the Thassilonian Seven Swords of Conviction; blades fashioned by the early Runelords to be wielded by their appointed Champions. This sword is Chellan, the Sword of Greed. It is made of solid gold that has been tempered and magically honed to the strength of adamantine, yet still retaining the luster of pure gold.

Chellan is a +5 keen scimitar that counts as an adamantine weapon for purposes of damage reduction and bypassing hardness. Its density allows the weapon to be treated as one size larger for purposes of damage die, but due to its density it can only be wielded properly by users with Strength 18 or higher; others with lower Strength must either wield Chellan as a two handed weapon or take a -2 penalty on attack rolls.

Additionally, whenever Chellan strikes a foe, that creature must make a DC 20 Fortitude save or be slowed as per a slow spell. If a critical hit occurs, the creature must make a DC 25 Fortitude save or instantly be turned into a crystalline statue as per flesh to stone. Creatures turned to crystal appear to be made of a precious gem (e.g. ruby, diamond, etc.), but are actually only made of colored quartz.

You are familiar with tales that the Alara'hai each had a mind of its own, each bent to serve the Sin and Runelord it was associated with. Even further, you know that the Sword of Greed was rumored to be able to attend to many needs of its wielder; ranging from healing their wounds, protecting them from the elements, and even providing sustenance. The method of how to destroy this artifact was not written in history, and is unknown to you at this time.

Sword Image Link

Sharton examines the golden sword, amidst the acidy half-melted remains of the armored woman. The sword is incredibly heavy to lift from the wizard's perspective, and almost seems to increase in weight in an attempt to cause Sharton to lose grip of it.

Sharton:
A haughty male voice sounds in your mind as the weapon abruptly increases in weight. "Foolish slave of Pride, keep your unclean hands off of me! Your meager power palls in comparison to that of my Master!"

I agree, we need to try to track down Shump's last known position after he was taken.

Sharton quickly goes through the giant pile of loot. Most of this we can't use, except all of these sihedron rings. However, this armored woman had lots of good stuff, starting with this sword. It's talking to me, and not in a nice way. Sharton goes on to explain the sword's history and powers. This purple ioun stone holds three levels of spells, although it's empty right now. This belt could be of great use to Jeb or Grognar, since it brings your strength and fortitude to near perfection. This ring will prevent you from being grappled or caught in a web, while this scarab gives you resistance to spells and can absorb a number of negative energy effects.

I don't think this headband will help anyone, since Jeb has one of this strength and the rest of us have one for different abilities. Her boots can be used to teleport you three times per day, and her cloak makes you look a small distance from where you actually are.

Sharton tries to pull on the bow, which doesn't flex in the least. Looks like this bow is defective.

Finally, these four potions heal up some serious injuries, while her armor and shield are very powerfully enchanted, to the max. What are everyone else's thoughts?

I'll grab one of the potions, and while that belt would make me harder to kill or poison I know I don't have a primary need for it. I don't mind hand-me-downs of one of you takes it and has a similar belt you don't need anymore, at least until we get back to Heidmarch Manor!

Ezren will retrieve a ring for his second summoned creature and then he helps look over the loot. We do not know where that wizard took Shump, but I agree we need to find both Shump and that wizard. I believe he came from the eastern passages. I will send Baal to check the path we came in on but do not expect to find him there. Unless someone thinks it a bad idea he will send his companion to search the way they came in with his hasted fly speed.

Looking over the items he asks and admits Who should wear the ring of Freedom of Movement? I could use it as being grappled is something I fear. I could also use that Scarab of Protection if no one else will wear it.

I assume you mean the stone. If so, I'm pretty sure that's Yes, the spell that is stored in there is at the caster level of whoever put it in.

I can't wear the scarab, my bonded item is a necklace already. Grognar, if you take her belt can I borrow yours for a while? Too bad there aren't more Rings of Freedom of Movement. And what should we do with this sword?

I'll put it in my handy haversack for a moment, is it able to talk to me while in the extradimensional space?

Baal flies back towards the entrance ramp (and/or further downwards, if desired) and will find no traces of any recent passage beyond that of your group.

The sword has pretty much been lambasting you in the background the entire time you have been talking with your group members. Your dominance over the weapon seems secure in terms of control and being telepathically annoying seems to be the extent of what it can do to you at the moment. "-will squash you like the worm that you are! Wait...where are you putting-MMMRPHM!" The sword projects increasingly muffled telepathic protestations as you shove it in the haversack, which settles down after a while to a low-grade simmering glow of anger and annoyance.

I did mean stone, it's based on the ring of spell storing,

Quote:
Each spell has a caster level equal to the minimum level needed to cast that spell.

So my buff will not be great options for the ring as the AL require higher caster levels.

Then lets us go that way to look for him. Ezren will send his summoned monsters ahead of the group.

19 minutes elapse during looting phase, plus 30 seconds for travel.

The group finishes their recovery of their spoils with the giants in the eastern chamber, the chamber filled with what seems like endless rows of empty side chambers along its halls. The chamber curves around to the north, where it splits into two separate halls lined with these empty cells. The left hallway appears to have a side room that appears to be someone's living quarters; it is a triangular room with a golden bed bearing exotic furs and silk sheets, as well as a long shelf above the bed holding nearly two dozen leather-bound books.

There is a closed set of doors on the southern end of this chamber that appears different from the cells to the north. Assuming you all don't look behind this door quite yet, given your focus on recovering Shump.

As the group comes within visible sight of the living quarters in the left hallway, they hear what appears to be a heated conversation echoing from further up the hallway just around the curve out of direct sight.

Those that speak Abyssal:
"Tell her to lower the barrier, you worthless creature! I conjured you, you must obey!" a familiar male voice grumps.

"Indeed, you bound me to serve, wizard." A second voice echoes down the hallway, a bit deeper in depth and with definite bestial tones. The voice pauses briefly as several cracking and chewing noises can be heard. "I have passed your message to her. Do you want to know what she said?" the bestial voice says with very audible amusement.

"I am tired of your games, demon! The invaders come ever closer to breaching the Master's sanctum, I do not have time to-" the grumpy voice begins to argue, before a sharp snapping noise cuts him off.

"Mmm...delicious. Wish I could do this to you. Anyways, here is her message. 'The Runelord has no use for a servant who can not finish a simple task of killing weaklings who defy him.'" There is a brief pause, accentuated by the occasional crunching noises and the sound of the grumpy voice wordlessly making angry flabbergasted noises. "Well, that sounds like a no, doesn't it? She also had more explicit words for you. Let me repeat those for you." The voice unleashes a series of insults and curses so blasphemous that the air in the hallway actually seems to coruscate and waver in shock.

The grumpy voice seems stunned into silence for a bit, which is shortly followed by angry exasperated noises and stomping. Deep rumbling chuckling comes from the other voice, which fades into background crunching noises.

Sharton pops his wand of shield from his spring-loaded wrist sheath, activates it, and moves forward with the rest of the group.

He whispers, "The wizard seems to have some kind of powerful demon with him."

The lamia's constant attacks have Shump wondering what is happening. Another attack and his wits utterly fail. His limbs lock up like iron and he collapses straight on his back.

He dreams of his friend Rhino. He wonders if Rhino is okay.

In the mists...a dagger slams deep into Shump's right eye.

-- - -

A tall Chelaxian woman with short black hair who outfitted in bright polished full plate with a longsword at her waits watches Shump swirl through the Boneyard. She awaits his return to Proelera in Heavan for a seat in her hall. He knows this place well having spent a short time there, before she recalled him back to Golarion.

- -- - -

He shakes his head. No that didn't happen. Suddenly he sits dressed in a worm shirt and dirty pants, on the floor of an empty stable staring at the bottom of a large worn feed bag. It has a label which reads "Rhino" on the outside, at the bottom a few bits of alfalfa remain. All is quiet.

Grognar casts restoration on Shrump. Back before we started moving.

"Welcome back to the world my friend. You kept saying rhino while you were out."

Addressing Hmm's ruling, with a little bit of RP seasoning!

As the group hears the conversation echoing down the hallway, they abruptly feel a shuddering rumble rip through the entire Spire. The sound of furniture and ornamental gems falling from their places can be heard all around. Over the noise, the voices up the hallway can also be heard; with one voice actually seeming to laugh maniacally.

Those that speak Abyssal:

"Wizard, I thought your 'Master' made this place with potent magic," the bestial voice growls nervously. "Why is it falling apart around me?!?" The previously-grumpy voice simply laughs with evil glee before responding.

"YES! The anima focus is absorbing the greedy soul fragments of all those marked giants the idiots killed earlier. This will surely hasten my Master's return!" The wizard's voice pauses briefly, taking on a more nervous tone. "The Focus hasn't absorbed souls of this caliber in so short a time before. Hopefully there is not any backlas-"

The rumbling crescendos as a rippling wave of cascading brilliant golden energy erupts from up the hallway and crashes down it with incredible speed. The wave of light crosses the entire length of the hallway in seconds, giving the group time for a startled breath before it washes over them. Time almost seems to slow down as it passes over the party, carrying with it a sense of vertigo and an oddly intense wave of greedy urges. It is at this time that the group sees two shapes being carried along by the energy wave, one of which is a very heavy medium sized creature which slams into Grognar at a velocity that leaves him staggering with the impact. The other, a much smaller and lighter object made of cloth, slaps into Ezren's face much like a newspaper caught by a strong wind.

The energy wave passes and with better visibility Grognar find Shump's unconscious body in his arms. Oddly enough, Ezren removes the thing caught on his face, only to realize that the object appears to be someone's pants, albeit very finely made and expensive looking. The shuddering and rumbling of the Spire continues, and the group hears more of the voices down the hall over the din.

Those that speak Abyssal:

"WHERE DID MY LUNCH GO!?!?" the bestial voice roars in anger. The roar quickly trails off, to replaced by a rumbling laugh. "Mmmm...heh. Wizard, that look suits you."

"-his return is nigh! Wait, what do you-" the wizard's voice starts to snap at the other, and then immediately starts cursing.

"For all of the power you mages wield, and you can't even fix an issue like that. How...liberating," the bestial voice chuckles. "Please, do take your time. Ceoptra is taking exquisite delight at the mental images I am sending her." The grumpy voice continues cursing, though with more colorful additions.

The rumbling of the aftershock will continue for as long as the group needs to cure/heal/buff Shump up as needed, covering up the sounds of any spellcasting and noises people might make.

Back from vacation, so let's continue on shall we? Approximately 2 minutes of in-game time passed (including conversation, Shump, and moving down the hallway). The group cautiously moves further down the hallway towards the voices they have been hearing, towards a single room at the end. In this 50-foot high room is a 20-foot tall golden statue of the Runelord in a pose with his hands held out before him; as if it had been holding an object of some kind in them. A brazier stands before the statue, with plumes of smokeless fire churning within it. North of the statue stands a stone pagoda-like structure, with a single opening in its southern side and its contents not visible from the group's current vantage point. To the west, a massive pair of golden double doors shimmers behind a hazy screen of golden energy.

In this room, the sources of the two voices becomes readily apparent. One appears to be a gargantuan multi-eyed bear-like monster, with a serrated tail and insectoid claws sprouting from its back; while the other voice is the grumpy wizard from the fight earlier. The insect bear appears to be sporting a devilishly amused look on what passes for its face, as it observes the wizard (who, for some reason, appears to be missing his pants) failing miserably at attempting to magically manifest a pair of slacks using prestidigitation.

Without even turning to look behind it, the insect bear snorts and rises from its relaxed crouched position and it growls at the wizard.

Those that Speak Abyssal:
"Your visitors are here, wizard. Deal with your drawers later," it growls with anticipation.

"Why are you all not dead yet?" the mage gripes as he lets the badly half-manifested pants fade away into smoke as grasps his staff and assumes a spell-casting posture.

Insect Bear Image

Knowledge Planes (DC 26):
The insect bear creature is a shemhazian demon, a chaotic evil creature of the abyss that typically forms from the sinful souls of torturers and individuals who mutilate victims to death. Its defenses are best pierced by cold iron and good-aligned weapons, is immune to electricity and poison, and is resistant to other elements except sonic. May ask 1 additional question for every 5 above the DC.

And so we re-enter initiative! Please take a moment and re-assess the stats you have listed in your signature fields; many short-term buffs have expired since the last combat and your stats/AC/Saves may have changed. Ezren knows the deepest fear of this demon, a foul creature that relishes in devouring living flesh and meat, and reaches into his spell pouch in order to pull out...BROCCOLI! The shemhazian demon recoils from perhaps one of the most foulest of substances on Golarion and vanishes with a frightful pop from this plane of existence.

I hate broccoli, can't you tell?

Jebediah, all set and ready to go with an incredibly devastating pounce attack, find himself without a target! As he ponders his next move, Sharton darts in and unleashes his phantasmal killer spell upon the wizard. His illusion magic plies upon the mental defenses of his enemy, who struggles to resist its effects.

Sharton...do you have any weird boons or abilities to boost your DC on the phantasmal killer? The wizard is 2 points shy of failing the will save, which will actually kill him if he fails if Grognar is willing to drop a misfortune on his last fortitude save. Otherwise, he will resist your spell.
