Here is the new default text. If you have questions I'm happy to answer. If I don't post the misfortune text I'm saving my immediate action.
Aid saving throws against debilitating effects (paralysis, dominate, blind, possession and save or suck that will take anyone out of the fight. Condition: roll below 5 if the PC has a particularly weak save roll below 8. OR when requested by a pc at my discretion.
Enemy saving throw when requested by another PC. Usually when a weak save has been identified and targeted. Condition: 15 or higher is rolled. If the enemy seems to be a leader/ general/ or particularly powerful reroll 10 or higher.
Attacks: reroll critical threats when casters are ~50% or less or reroll critical threats when melee PCs are ~30% or less. Condition: Assume that crit means natural 20 until there is a demonstration or identification of keen, high crit weapon or improved crit then adjust accordingly.
Something completely unforeseen. Beg to let me use the ability, and then the Gm agrees.
*For HP percentages I’m giving approximations. If a pc starts at 51% the first attack is a crit and there are 5 more attack coming that meets spirit of the threshold.

Got a full day of work ahead of me and then my DC trip. Posting will slow even more now, but I will still try to check it once/day. :)
Thanks Ezren! I am mostly planning on the National Mall. I don't have time for much else (and even then might not have enough time for that).

IF you want to tour the Capital, and I recommend that you do, contact your congressman's office in advance. They can schedule a personal tour with an aid that will greatly enhance the experience. Other off the beaten path highlights for me were the American Indian museum (quite near the Capital) and the Library of Congress. Take the free tour. Oh, and there is a tunnel from the Capital to the Library of Congress.

I love the Library of Congress and I liked the portrait museum more than I expected.

Unfortunately, this is a tag-a-long from a work trip in Virginia about an hour away and we didn't know that I was going until about a couple weeks ago, so no chance to make advanced plans.
I am a block away from the National Mall, and plan to stay in it (and around it, like the Library of Congress) the whole time.

As a general heads-up, the Gameday officially ends on the 13th. Obviously we are not all the way through, but the organizers want all reporting in by then. Hence, I am going to report that you all made it this one alive and completed successfully (with Griff in the party, an actual perma-death is unlikely unless he goes first or you run out of diamond dust). Once we actually finish, I will then send out the chronicle sheets. In the event an actual perma-death occurs after the reporting, I will work with the organizers to have the session reporting updated.
I also don't believe I have had you all roll for boons yet, either. Feel free to roll a d20 when you have a chance, a 1 or 20 results in a boon. I will roll for you if I don't see one by the 13th.

I thought I rolled but do not see it, so here it is again.
Boon: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Same number.
Wondering about this run. There is no reasonable way we could have handled all the fights quietly. Can this think be done without pulling all the encounters to you at some point?
| GM Irish202 |
It could have, but it would have required you all to have prevented me from sounding several alarms. Sealing off the giants from notifying the other rooms might have been one option, as well as using effects that suppress sound (e.g. silence) might have been more stealthy as well. I have other ideas, but those involve spoilers that I don't want to reveal quite yet.

I do wonder how other runs of this AP mod would differ. I have played a couple of these mods and run 1 and in general the difficulty is above average to say the least.

Boon roll: 1d20 ⇒ 9

Have to do my reporting, so boon rolling for the rest:
Grognar Boon Roll: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Shump Boon Roll: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Hmm...no boons for anyone. As it so happens, the GM boon I received from also running the special for the Gameday is one that I already have.
As a little incentive to keep people interested, I would be happy to gift it to one of you all at the end of this. To the player who lands the final blow on Karzoug, perhaps? Or maybe another dice roll at the end, to be fair to Griff?
Griff H.

No worries about me... I already have one lol.

Pretty sure I have one in my folder of unused boons as well, but very nice of you to offer it up! I suppose I could always regift it to a local player. 'Tis the season!

I am not even sure what a Ganzi is.
I believe it is essentially like a Tiefling or an Aasimar; except instead of being half-angelic or half-devil it is half-chaotic based. Ganzi.
Isn't this campaign ending soon as we all get dragged kicking and screaming to 2.0?
*Dons VL Hat* While Paizo might cease to produce further scenarios for 1.0, the organized play aspect for 1.0 is not being discontinued based on what I have seen so far. But, that is perhaps a discussion for another time. *Doffs VL Hat*

FYI, we hopped down to Rome for the long weekend but I have phone connectivity and wifi at the AirBnB. Right now I'm waiting to see if Jeb wrecks the giant before acting.
I didn't realize that mind blank blocked even see invisibility, the name is very misleading!

I had known about the mink blank - see invisibility glitch in the past but I play so little high level that I had managed to forget it.

Hello Everyone.
GM Irish, I hope you don't mind me stopping by your thread. The VO team got asked to look into the matter of Shump's death. (This is actually a pretty common occurence in PBPs anytime there are PC deaths. People understandably want us to double-check the circumstances.)
OUR RULING:
So, first of all, this is seeker level stuff, and the last fights of this book are supposed to nasty. GM Irish has been keeping the challenge up, and that's awesome.
However, we've reviewed the circumstances leading up to the death, and have decided that the tactic of teleporting off with an unconscious PC to kill them was not warranted by the scenario, and so are reversing the death. Note that this is the only thing we are changing.
We don't want to change your timeline, or force you to wind back the combat, since everything else seems aligned with a badass seeker villain giving you a strong and dirty fight.
From this point forward, Shump is with his party, and still unconscious from wisdom drain.
Thanks so much for listening, and sorry for the interruption. Have an awesome rest of your game!

In other news, I will be going to Costa Rica for my brother's wedding starting tomorrow afternoon through Sunday evening. While I expect to have some internet access, I don't believe I will be able to reliably post regularly during this time. Just wanted to give a heads up in case people happened to notice a delay in me responding/posting!

At work and do not have time to look it up but it seems to me that something is inherently "wrong" with a no save touch attack that can deal wisdom drain multiple times a round. The spring attacking lamias were clever. But that was one attack per creature per round. I sort of recall (something in the back of my mind) that maybe a drain attack can only happen once a round??? Not at all sure though. It would seem a little more balanced. Anyone recall anything about this?
Ezren, Hellknight Signafier
|
Actually looking at the lamia's attack it seems only one attack did wisdom drain. It does a lot of wisdom drain and it confirmed as a crit to + 14 points. So that is certainly legit. Deadly, but legit. I still think there are rules about limiting the number of draining attacks/round but am not sure.
| GM Irish202 |
I still think there are rules about limiting the number of draining attacks/round but am not sure.
The only Paizo thread I could find on the subject is here.
The gist I have come to is that the only rules that exist regarding limiting ability draining attacks are specific per ability. You might be thinking of a vampire's energy drain ability, which has specific wording limiting it to trigger only a certain number of times per round. Other creatures, such as a wight's ability drain on a slam, does not have such limitations and can ability drain as many times as they would like per turn.
In the generic lamia stat block, its Wisdom Drain ability states:
A lamia drains 1d4 points of Wisdom each time it hits with its melee touch attack. (Unlike with other kinds of ability drain attacks, a lamia does not heal any damage when it uses its Wisdom drain.) Lamias try to use this power early in an encounter to make foes more susceptible to charm monster and suggestion.
As unfortunate and unfair as it might be, its description doesn't provide a limit per round and actually includes the wording "each time it hits," additionally implying indirectly that multiple uses potentially being possible. I will have to go with the creature being able to touch away freely until better clarification is available.

Hey all,
I will be defending my thesis this week so my posting will be very spotty for a bit. Thank you for your patience.
