GM Irish202 |

Will be running #09-00 "Assault on Absalom" for the PbP Gameday VII starting October 1st. Please see the Gameday page for further information on sign ups. Tier TBD.

GM Irish202 |

Hello all! Looks like the Gameday is still on track for the special to start on October 1st. When possible, feel free to dot into gameplay and discussion threads. Just to give a heads up as well, I am a bit different than other GM's here on PbP's in that I use Roll20 for my maps and token movement. For those with difficulties with Roll20, I also post a map JPEG with grid markings so you can post your movement as an alternative. Links to both will be at the top under a Quick Links tab (will be set up in a couple days). I will also need the following information:
1)Character Name
2)PFS ID - Character Number
3)Faction
4)Day Job (If any)
5)Links to a token image, if any preferred
6)Any odd, unusual things about your character that you feel the GM should know ahead of time.
Let me know if there are any questions!

1) Lucija Lal Rani - and Naghamadi!
2) #40025-1
3) Dark Archive
4) Craft (Painting): 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (19) + 34 = 53 <- With my Prosperity Boon, that's 300 gold!
5) Don't mind if I do! Try this! As for my Eidolon, try THIS.
6) Just be prepared for some crazy tricks, rare special abilities and Boons, exotic and powerful magic items, and lots and lots of monsters!

Sometimes; that's what it's there for, right?
If I'd had it to do all over again, an Occultist Arcanist is what this character would've been.

GM Irish202 |

Hello again, all! I have set up a quick links tab up at the top of the page; I usually put map links and handouts up there. As mentioned previously, I do use Roll20 for maps and tokens instead of Google Slides; the link to that page is under the tab up top. If you have difficulties accessing the Roll20 page, I also have included a map image (typically with gridding to assist with posting movement) under the tab. I will begin posting introductory information in the gameplay thread shortly. Feel free to let me know if there are questions!
1) How do I even get onto the Roll20 map?
Great question! After clicking the quick link up top, it will take you to the Roll20 site. If you have an account already...all you have to do is log in! If you do not, you can make one! (It's free!). After doing so, it should take you to the "PbP Gameday 2018: Assault on Absalom" campaign page. Select the pink/purple "Launch Game" box and it will take you to the map!
2) GM, my token keeps snapping into a square that I don't want!
If you do not want to have your token "snapped" into a square, you can hold down the "alt" key while dragging and dropping your token; it should stay where you want after doing so.
3) I want to drop an extremely inconvenient area of effect spell on the map! How do I place it?
If you wish to draw on the map, there is a bar of icons on the upper left side of the page. Hover over the 2nd icon down from the top (it typically defaults to a 'paintbrush' image) and a set of various drawing/typing options will pop up. If you try the "polygon" option, it will continue to link each point you click until you finish your shape by right clicking. Using the drawing tool is a good idea if you want to point out your movement routes to the GM *Cough* Chaine Charge Routes *Cough
4) What are all these things popping up around my token?
After clicking on your token, 3 circles will appear above and 2 circles below your token. The lower left circle (e.g. the cog symbol) gives you options on setting up bars or auras for your token (e.g. health bars, # use/day abilities, etc). The lower circle next to it lets you put markers on your token (e.g. to remind you if you have a condition, or a buff). The upper 3 circles let you put numerical values (which appear on your token if you set them up using the cog) for your token easily.
5) How can I tell how far something is on the map?
If you want to measure distance (e.g. for movement), select the 4th icon down from the bar on the left side of the screen (a ruler icon). If you click on a spot, then drag the mouse, it will make a measuring arrow that displays how far that distance is. It even factors in diagonals!
6) Why can't I see something on the map/Why is everything black?
Roll20 has "Fog of War", meaning that the GM can selectively reveal parts of the map depending on what the party sees. If you cannot see anything, try scrolling around the page; if you still can't see anything then bug the GM!
7) Why does the Roll20 page act funky when I try using my smartphone?
At the moment, Roll20 has limited functionality on mobile devices; tablets are pretty much the extent of full tech support in terms of mobile devices. If you need to post from a phone, I would recommend using the JPEG image link under the quick links and use gridding to indicate movement until you have access to a computer/laptop/tablet.

Hi GM Irish,
Looking forward to do this in Roll20! I'm currently running Hell's Rebels on it with some local people. It's awesome.
Do you know if there's a way to make the distance measuring tool display 'stick'? as soon as I take my finger off the left click button it disappears. I've been meaning to find a way to 'keep measurements' for a while now, for my campaign's purposes.
Regards,
Chaine / GM PDK

We are still officially starting on 10/1 right? Roland is trying to wrap up prior scenario but will be a bit late (per Hmm announcement). Otherwise I can bring a level 8 or maybe a level 9

![]() |

Yeah but they're allowing us to roll the skill checks now if you want; then the action will ramp up on Oct 1st. This is a great way to save time if you ask me.

I may or may not have a guy that I run a game for on Sundays that might or might not do programming/development for the Roll20 software. I could certainly bug this individual's ear to see if something is possible.

The official date unfortunately has not budged from 10/1 from what I have seen. I would be ok if you dip in a bit late (generally missing 1 or 2 encounters wouldn't affect credit/xp in my view), or you can use your level 9 (I think the only out of tier level allowed for the specials is level 9 characters, since there is a gap between tiers 7-8 or 10-11). I will leave that to your discretion.

I do love to sprinkle hyperbole and sarcasm into my games ;)
Additionally, the Gameday organizers has requested people fill out a 'mid-point' survey for the event. If you feel like giving some input, feel free to do so here!

Chaine, I have found your answer! To get something like what you are intending:
2)While holding the ruler tool in place also press "Q" (e.g. the same button you would press when showing a token path movement) to create a "dot" on the map at the end of your ruler arrow.
3)Release the ruler tool and the ruler arrow will disappear.
4)Now press "X." The ruler tool arrow will now reappear on the map with the distance visible and you no longer needing to continue to hold a button. Other players can see this as long as you measured it in the layer they can see. It will disappear again if you right click for any reason or if you exit the page.. I have not tested this to see if you can have more than one arrow up in this way at once. Hope this helps!

It seems you are getting pretty far along, even though it is only a couple days since the start. I think Roland will miss too much once his other table wraps, so he is going to bow out. Sorry for the delay.

![]() |

Notable shenanigans during my turn: Summon Good Monster, Superior Summoning feats, Conjurer's Focus ability.
Also, my info above I just changed resources to be: (used)/(total available) to match with my Hero Lab so I don't go crazy trying to reverse it to (remaining)/(total available).

Love this trick... measure line stays on the board. Do you see it too or am I the only one?

Hey all, it's my birthday tomorrow and I'm having a party tonight which I'm busy getting ready for. I'll try to post this afternoon but it probably won't be until tomorrow evening.

![]() |

...but if you ever roll a natural 1 while attempting to activate an item and you fail...
Emphasis mine. A natural 1 would not result in failure if the DC is 20 and the UMD score is 24 (a nat 1 would equal 25, which is not a failure)

![]() |

It's a common misunderstanding, no worries! Basically, once you get your UMD to +19, wands (DC20) are auto-succeed.

Hi everyone - from last Friday's post by Riddywipple I was assuming he was available for healing between fights but in this case it appears not to be the case. Can anyone else in the party cast from a wand? If I can't get the healing on Chaine before this fight we are essentially down a front-liner. I don't think Qatala can swing it alone, but we DO have lots of Foo Lions, so maybe we're ok...
In any case, if any of you can heal Chaine before we start that would be great. If so, assume Silvermane moved up to you in round T-2 so you don't have to move your own mini. Thanks!
Addendum for GM: since we ran the last fight as an extra encounter, is there really no way to have more than 2 rounds' worth of rest before this encounter? as a side note: is this the last fight? this special (as well as the three Solstice Scars I played before this) are very resource intensive for martials, especially when there's no healer around... and I think I'll be done playing specials for a while... no offense to you as a GM, as you were great, but in terms of scenarios, they're basically a endless grind of one encounter after the other and to be honest, an unfair tax on front liners who must be spending 15gp per wand hit to recover between fights...

![]() |

We should keep burst of healing until a bunch of people need healing as it works on everyone. The other one is a cure serious potion (last resort).
I'm just ranting about being a frontliner that's all... :P I will try to better select my PCs in the future. Cavaliers and Fighters are almost always screwed if there's no cleric in the party. They should come with a built-in class disclaimer note.

![]() |

Riddywipple - let me know if you still plan to heal Chaine with Cure Serious heal stick. Thank you!

![]() |

Yeah I'm more than happy to activate wands out of combat! It just happened right now we only had 2 rounds to prep for that construct so I wanted to use those rounds to buff the summons. I'll stick by you and use the wand as we proceed.

But the wall wouldn't be broken by a creature or object. Sure they are grappling, but the creature occupies its own space as does Qatala. It's no different if two creatures are in melee and the wall goes up. Their weapons and limbs would be crossing into each other's squares but the wall would separate them as soon as it goes up.
If it's your final ruling that the wall would fail, Torrag will cast grease on Qatala and hopefully she can escape the grapple.

GM Irish202 |

I am unable to find any clarifications on this on the forums, much to my dismay. If it was grappling Qatala with its appendages, I would be more inclined to agree with you...but it is literally grappling her with its jaws...I can't even visualize how a wall of force would even be able to make that work without slicing off the creature's head. Additionally, Wall of Ice comes to mind (having similar limitations); such that adjacent creatures to the wall can reach limbs across a space to stop it forming, implying that cross-square physical interaction can occur.
However, grappling also implies back-and-forth struggles; with brief moments where loss of contact are sure to occur and give you an opening to do what you intend. So in my official GM opinion, it entirely comes down to a matter of chance of whether your not your timing works. I will give you the following choices:
1) Cast the Wall of Force and roll a d100; on a high result (e.g. 51-100) your timing works out and will break the grapple. A low result will indicate improper timing, resulting in the spell failing and being completely wasted. For purposes of the d100 roll, I will accept re-roll boons to be used (e.g. portfolio if not yet used, chronicle boons, etc.) to attempt better results.
2) Opt out of the Wall of Force and do your alternative action you mentioned earlier (e.g. grease.) and not potentially waste your Wall of Force at this time.

Busy day at work and I have my PF2 playtest group tonight, so I'll post my action after I get home around 10:30pm MST

![]() |

Ugh my night went waaaaaaay later than it should have and if I don't get to bed now I'll be useless tomorrow. Bot if you must but I can commit to posting around 9am MST.

![]() |

Super-duper sorry for the prolonged absence. I was feeling extra-terrible for a bit there.

![]() |

Rakes always hit on a pounce.
When a creature with this special attack makes a charge, it can make a full attack (including rake attacks if the creature also has the rake ability).

BOOOOOOOOOOOON TIME!: 1d20 ⇒ 4

![]() |

Thanks very much, GM and fellow players! That was really fun and very well-run! I'm new-ish to PbP and playing a high-level monster summoner here is SO much less stressful than when trying to finish in 4 hours at a game shop! I had a really good time. My resources were all but gone by the end, which meant it was a good challenge.

![]() |

I hope it's okay to promote like this here; since my Gameday games are wrapping up I'm getting prepped to run #6-20 Returned to Sky (7-11). The game MUST finish by 1/13/19, so be prepared to post regularly to help meet that deadline. Priority is given to the Exchange, Liberty’s Edge, and Silver Crusade factions. Recruitment Here. Any of y'all would be welcome at my table!
