[PbP Gameday VI] GM Ladile & the Pathfinder Society Present: Solstice Scar (Session #2; Tier 3-4) (Inactive)

Game Master Lady Ladile

Aid Tokens:

During the event, it is possible for characters at one table to assist those at another with Aid Tokens. Each represents the assistance of allied Pathfinder agents who assist the PCs.

Once per encounter, any character at a table can use an Aid Token to assist the group in one of the ways described below. Once a table uses an Aid Token, one of the players then passes the Aid Token to a neighboring table for them to use. A table can only benefit from one token per encounter. Because there are a limited number of Aid Tokens, hoarding one means that somebody else doesn’t get to use it.

If a table receives an Aid Token and doesn’t need its benefits, they’re encouraged to boost its potency by expending some of their own resources or attempting a skill check. Boosting an Aid Token, including attempting a skill check, is part of passing that Aid Token to another table. A table can neither retry such a skill check nor boost an Aid Token more than once before passing it to another table. A table may boost a token even while in combat without taking any in-round actions; the scenario assumes the aid was granted before that encounter began. Using a boosted effect consumes the boost.

Some Aid Token benefits may only be used if already boosted by another table. An Aid Token’s benefits vary based on the table’s subtier, and these benefits can take one of the following forms:

Allied Offensive: A Pathfinder agent strikes a creature at the same time as the PC, increasing the damage dealt by one attack by 1d8 points. In addition, after the attack, anyone attacking the target is considered to be flanking it until the beginning of the attacker’s next turn. To Boost: Succeed at an attack roll against an AC equal to an Average skill check. Boosted Effect: +1d8 points of damage.

Burst of Healing: A Pathfinder agent heals all of the PCs of 1d6 points of damage. To Boost: Expend one use of channel positive energy or cast one spell with the healing descriptor with a spell level greater than or equal to your APL/2, rounded up. A PC must cast this spell, not simply activate a wand or scroll. Boosted Effect: +2d6 points of damage healed.

Timely Inspiration: A Pathfinder agent provides the effects of a bard’s inspire courage bardic performance for 3 rounds. In Subtiers 1–2 and 3–4, the competence bonus is +1. To Boost: Expend 3 rounds of bardic performance or similar ability. Boosted Effect: Increase the competence bonus by 1.

Provide Knowledge (must be boosted): Gain the benefits of a Knowledge skill check or Spellcraft skill check used to identify a magical item; the type and difficulty (Easy, Average or Hard) depend on the table granting the benefit. To Boost: Succeed at a Knowledge check of your choice, the result of the check (Easy, Average or Hard) should be noted on the Aid Token.

Provide Spellcasting (must be boosted): Gain the benefits of a beneficial spell cast by an ally as listed on the Aid Token. To Boost: Cast one of the following spells and note your PC’s name and caster level on the Aid Token: lesser restoration, neutralize poison, remove curse, or remove disease. Only these spells may be granted. Expending resources that produce the effects of these spells, such as a paladin’s mercy class feature, may also grant these benefits.

Orc Benefits:

Blenta Benefit:
PCs gain a +1 on attack and damage rolls against animals and magical beasts for the rest of the adventure.

Borbus Benefit:
Before attempting a Bluff, Escape Artist, Perform, or Sleight of Hand check during this adventure, a PC can decide to roll twice and take the higher result. Each PC can use this benefit once before the end of the adventure.

Bukog Benefit:
Each PC gains a +5 bonus on any Day Job checks performed at the end of this adventure.

Gekgaro Benefit:
Each PC gains the Nimble Moves feat until the end of the adventure.

Graffa Benefit:
Each PC chooses either the Acrobatic or Athletic feat and gains it for the rest of the adventure.

Kardook Benefit:
Each PC can use Martial Flexibility as a 1st-level brawler once before the end of the adventure; if a PC already has the martial flexibility class feature, she gains 1 additional use per day for the rest of the adventure.

Mirtgog Benefit:
At the start of an encounter, each PC can choose to gain the Precise Strike feat for the duration of the encounter. Each PC can use this benefit once before the end of the adventure.

Season of Ghosts

Since the scenario notes that you can't boost the same token multiple times before passing it I'm going to go with the ruling for right now that that would also rule out Aid Another to get a better result. In this case the point is a bit moot anyway since you've boosted it up to Hard on your own :)

Season of Ghosts

No worries Esh; it probably won't be your turn in the initiative block until later tonight anyway :)

Season of Ghosts

By the way guys, I hope everyone is having a good time. If you're not or if there are other issues that I need to address or if there are questions about anything then please always feel free to either post here or send me a PM and we'll get it sorted out :)

I've been having a great time! I wanted to ask about the knowledge checks though; usually, you get one piece of information for passing the check, and one extra one for every 5 points over. The rules for Knowledge checks for creatures are super fuzzy though, so every GM does them differently. Do you count the name of the creature as the first piece of information?

Season of Ghosts

Nope, I sure don't! If you make the base check and nothing more then you'll at least get the creature's name. In your case if you'd just managed a 15 on the check for the devil then you'd be pretty sure that it's a bearded devil but not really know anything else about them - maybe you saw a picture or drawing of one in a book but you either didn't read what it said about it or you just can't remember right now.

Keep in mind that other people can make the same check and request different information than what you requested! That's how the GM that I had for this during the Session #1 run handled it and that's probably how I'll handle/continue to handle it as well :)

By the way, the group earns some benefits for all their hard work schmoozing with the orcs - as to what, I'll get the list posted for you once I get home from work in the morning :D

Generally, Leepo will throw acid bombs and Scritch will shoot bolts. If there are a lot of opponents, Leepo will dismiss Scritch and start using summon spells to get some more critters on the board, usually to help others with flanking.

So noted! Thanks for the notice and I hope all goes well and that you have a speedy recovery :)

I won't be doing much leaping or jumping in my plate so I'll take Athletic to help reduce my armor penalty.

As far as choosing what we want to do for the attack, do we decide as a group? I know it's usually best not to split up but sometimes the normal rules don't apply in these specials. If we stay together, I'm good with protecting the caravan or meeting the vanguard. I'm not to effective at closing in on archers with my move speed in this armor.

Season of Ghosts

Although the scenario doesn't necessarily say anything about sticking together during this part, I will say that it might be a good idea to do so as you have no idea how many enemies or what sorts you might be dealing with at each little 'area' :)

Same with Katswiri, she's going to be bad at closing with archers. I would vote for meeting the vanguard.

Season of Ghosts

Okay, vanguard it shall be! I suspect that will work better for most of the group anyway :)

Does the square to the SE of the yellow orc contain part of the wall? If so, I'm assuming it would block me from charging, correct?

Season of Ghosts

The black sections on the map are indeed actual walls/parts of walls from the structure. You won't be able to charge Yellow not because the wall will prevent your movement (limiting charging to only being cardinal directions or perfect diagonals doesn't make much sense to me) but because it's currently blocking your LoS to him. You know he's back there but you still need to be able to see him clearly to charge him :\

Are the ogres supposed to be medium sized? I think they're usually large, so 10x10, right?

Season of Ghosts

Yeah, they're large-sized and I shrunk them down out of habit; will try and adjust the tokens accordingly though I'm on mobile so bear with me if it takes a bit :)

Season of Ghosts

Happy Halloween! Have fun, stay safe, and watch out for spooks! :D

Season of Ghosts

By the way folks, we've been given a 3-day extension on the special due to all the recent website issues! This means that instead of moving on to the next part on November 2nd as originally planned, we have until November 5th. And of course the remaining sections have also had their start and end dates adjusted accordingly :)

For those that might not check the blog or Flaxseed super often, this bit of news just came down the pipe a few hours ago. PFS Online is now its own unique region! :)

That basically means that we now qualify for more boon/GM/player support from on-high and that there are now even more Venture critters running around to answer questions, mediate disputes, and generally keep things running smoothly :)

Season of Ghosts

Apologies for the radio silence yesterday; not only did I have to work another night shift I had a sidekick with me for training so I didn't have any time to check or update my games like I normally would have!

I know the transitions from scene to scene might seem a little jarring at times so if you've got any questions about sequence of events or what's happening then please let me know :)

As you might've guessed, we didn't get enough successes for the house during Part 2 so that means that this next part might be a little more challenging than it would have been otherwise.

What are we looking at on slide 9? I'm assuming we have to maneuver around the trees/bushes.

Season of Ghosts

Yeah, you'll need to do some maneuvering around the bushes but otherwise there's no difficult terrain to worry about. To give you an idea, you're still technically outside of the Twinhorn encampment but some of them (perhaps caught outside when the bad guys showed up) have barricaded themselves inside the small cave, outside of which the bad guys have congregated.

Season of Ghosts

*NOTICE*

I'm going to be out of town tomorrow and Tuesday so my posting might be a little limited; I'll have my laptop with me and I'll try to check in and post as much as I'm able!

Season of Ghosts

Okay, I'm back from my trip! The rest of the special should more or less proceed as it has been :)

Oh, if anyone's curious, there were also some conditional bonuses or penalties added to your skill checks for Seeking Aid that largely depended on who spoke to who. For instance, Medda would react more favorably to obvious followers of good deities (+2) and Kragr really likes beefy people (+2 if your combined Str + Con is above 30) but tended to look down on weak ones (-2 if your Str + Dex + Con is less than 36).

Re: Hide from Undead - Since I missed that Arb had cast this on Esh and Dekion as well as himself, technically the Hand should've had a chance to make his save as soon as Esh came within its LoS. Since that would change the actions of the last round or two and we wrap things up tomorrow (and since I believe you guys got this even with Arb a bit tied up), I'm not going to retcon things at this point. I'll leave it up to Esh if he wishes to keep his use of Vanish or not, however.

My apologies too; it's becoming clear to me that one thing I need to put a little work into improving is making extra sure all my ducks are in a row (ongoing spell effects, buffs, etc.) when I'm running combat. I've noticed I'm more likely to screw up combat when I'm a player too, as opposed to missing or misunderstanding something during an RP section. Huh.

Alrighty folks, as you might've guessed from the latest Overseer post, we are officially done with Solstice Scar! I apologize if the end seemed a bit abrupt, as I'd hoped to at least let you guys kill a few more of the bad guys before things wrapped up.

As I mentioned last night, I will get your chronicles done and posted for you tomorrow. Since Leepo's player will be out for the next week, I'll send them a PM with a link to their chronicle so I can go ahead and close this campaign out once everyone else has theirs.

Thank you to everyone for joining me at my table and for bearing with me through my first Special-as-a-GM; hopefully everyone had a pretty good time for the most part!
