Dexter Gladstone |
Well, I figured I didn't need to check for traps because it opened to an unnumbered ledge according to the map - is that cheating?:)
Ok, let's move one - by the way, did anyone check that minature bastard sword for magical properties?
Dexter heads up to the next level and, assuming there's a door, checks it for traps and listens for any occupants...
Perception: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 = 9
Athraz |
Just because it leads to something without a number doesn't mean that the room it's in (which has a number) doesn't mention a trap...just a warning in case that ever comes up again ;)
Athraz waits for word from the advance scout party
Dexter Gladstone |
Trigger the room? That doesn't sound good! But normally I'd wait anyways - just in case of disaster. That said, I wouldn't stop people who are standing back from standing back.
Darius Marel |
From the back, Darius calls out:
"We're right behind you Dexter! Shout out if you see any sign of trouble!"
Not really suggesting a particular course of action as for group spacing, but just pointing out that Darius will stay nearer the back, but will rush ahead to help if there is danger.
Dexter Gladstone |
Ok - Sorry, I misunderstood the layout - I was thinking the stairway just ended (I know, makes very little sense), rather than opened into a room. I'm assuming the opening has light...if not, I'll light a torch first.
Dexter looks at the group, makes a shushing sound with his finger, and waits for them to catch up to the degree they're willing to. He encourages Balenar to be up front with him, gets Athraz's blessing, and then stealthily goes up the stairway. He will peek into the room with his crossbow ready to fire...

The four wings of the tower are completely open on this level, forming one great, cross-shaped chamber with arched ceilings. The decayed remnants of a carpet run from the doorways at the end of each wing, meeting in the center, where a spiral staircase drops out of sight below. A large, throne-like chair stands in the middle of the eastern wing next to a big chest.
Seated upon the throne is a big troglodyte, who reaches down and strokes the back of an albino crocodile squatting beside the chair as Dexter crests the top of the stairs.
Athraz: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Buri: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Dolre: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Dexter: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Balenar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
S: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
T: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
He then gives a throaty chuckle, and casts a spell, summoning a curved blade of flame into his open hand, and unmistakably gestures for Dexter to 'bring it'!
Balenar starts orating, attempting to inspire courage in his allies.
+1 to hit and damage.
Round 1: T, Balenar, Dexter, Dolre, S, Darius, Buri, Athraz
Party is up.
Just to be clear as to what the map represents, you are arranged in a single file, which indicates your position on the staircase. To reach the top (where Dexter is), you need to pass through the square of everyone in front of you.
Dexter Gladstone |
Dexter nods in acknowledgement of the big trog's gesture, aims his crossbow at him and fires. He then takes a step to the south, and draws his rapier..
crossbow, inspire: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 101d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Dolres |
When those in front of her move up.
Dlores quickly moves up the stairs and closer to the creature.
If it is in range she will attack
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Dolre |
Delores move up and prepares to attack anyone who comes in reach
with the exception on any of my team mates that is. Can I use the attack roll I made?
Luke_Parry |
@Dolres: Sure :-)
Dexter fires a crossbow bolt at the big Troglodyte, but the creature easily dodges it.
Dolres moves up the stairs, and readies to attack anything that comes within range.
The Crocodile moves forward to attack the one that shot at his master...
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21, for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 damage.
Grab: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 Vs CMD 15
...and although its bite is almost gentle, it *does* latch on to his leg with almost bulldog-like tenacity.
This enables Dolres to take a swing, dealing a solid blow to the creature's flank.
Athraz then moves up the stairs, and casts Guidance on Dexter.
Round 1: T, Balenar, Dexter, Dolre, S(-10), Darius, Buri, Athraz
Darius and Buri to finish Round 1.
Darius Marel |
Oh, right! Thanks! I doubt I would have beaten his CMD anyway. If I was able to mae it to my current spot with a single move, then I'll take a shot at the boss.
Shortbow plus PBS and inspire: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 18
Damage? with inspire and PBS: 1d6 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 7
Luke_Parry |
Buri moves up to a flanking position with Dolres, and delivers a bone-crunching blow to the crocodile, causing it to go limp before it has a chance to death-roll Dexter.
The Troglodyte hisses in annoyance, and moves over to take a swing at Buri...
Flame Blade(Melee Touch): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24, for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Fire damage.
...delivering a blow which sears flesh and burns hair.
Balenar continues to sing.
Round 1: T(-7), Balenar, Dexter, Dolre, Darius, Buri, Athraz
Party is up.
Buri Sunwalker |
Buri turns to the big troglodyte and swings his axe at him with all the strength he has left.
Attk: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 1 = 23
Dmg: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 1 = 10
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 1 = 17
Crit Extra Dmg: 2d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 8) + 4 + 2 = 18
Luke_Parry |
Buri turns to the big Troglodyte, and delivers a terrific blow to the creature's torso, nearly splitting it in half! The troglodyte falls to the ground, nerveless, and as he does so, the sword of flame drops from his hand, guttering out.
Combat over :-)
A search of the body turns up the following:
Darts (4), masterwork scimitar, cloak of resistance +1
In addition, in a wooden chest next to the throne-line chair, is another cache of treasures:
A masterwork short sword, 15 cold iron shurikens, two flasks of acid, a potion of cat’s grace, a potion of lesser restoration, a wand of summon monster I (CL 3rd, 9 charges), an amethyst worth 100 gp, and 247 gp in assorted coins.
----------------------------------------
With the defeat of the Troglodytes, the Fallen Fortress stands abandoned once more, but it’s only a matter of time before something else moves into the damaged siege tower and poses a new threat; perhaps another band of beginner adventurers will have just as much luck in clearing them out...
Balenar Forsend is profuse in his thanks, offering to escort you to the Pathfinder Society’s Grand Lodge in Absalom, where he will gladly sponsor anyone who is not already a member, for membership in the Pathfinder Society, an organization of explorers, archaeologists, and adventurers.
After a short evaluation that determines you don’t need additional training, the leaders of the Society accept you as initiates. As new Pathfinders, you will have your choice of missions across Golarion, and even the opportunity to have your exploits published in the hallowed pages of the Pathfinder Chronicles!
Congratulations on completing the module :-)
Anyone with a Day Job can give me a roll now, in addition to which, I would like everyone to roll me a d20 :-)
Also, could everyone please PM me the following: IRL first name, Character name, PFS#, Faction.
Dexter Gladstone |
1d20 ⇒ 2
Dexter rubs his leg where the croc had sunk its teeth in just moments before...then takes a look at the cloven trog.
Whew - Buri, you're a magician and a beast!
Sorting through the loot,
So who wants what?
@GM, I will check all bodies before we leave to make sure we didn't miss any loot. Am I missing anything below? Also, is there anything our patron is interested in here - the banner perhaps?
TOTAL LOOT:
22 sp
50 gp collar
200 gp? [GM, you said 100 gp each in total - is that 100 gp in all or 200 gp total] altar services
mwk lt steel shield (159 gp)
unidentified banner
mwk silver dagger (322 gp value)
mwk short sword (310 gp value)
mwk scimitar (315 gp value)
cloak of resistance +1 (1000 gp value)
15 cold iron shurikens
2 flasks of acid (10 gp each, 20 gp total)
potion of cat's grace (300 gp value)
potion of lesser restoration (300 gp value)
a wand of summon monster I (CL 3rd, 9 charges) (2025 gp value, prorated for number of charges)
100 gp amethyst
247 gp coinage
"magical scrolls" from skeleton room?
total cash - 599 gp, 2sp
total value of all loot - 5350 gp
share per person (excluding Sakitama, but assuming he gets the shurikens) = 1070 gp
share per person after wand and cloak are claimed (split 3 ways) = 775 gp
Considering the wand and cloak are probably better fits for other party members, I'll take one of the lesser shares. If no one objects, I'll take the short sword and dagger, a flask of acid, and 133 gp as my share.
And I have no day job...but thank you to Luke Parry for doing a splendid GMing job!

Pathfinder society works a bit differently. You don't get to keep anything you find. It is assumed you "sell" everything to the society and everyone get's an equal amount of cash out of it (listed on your chronicle).
If you find something and plan to keep it you have to buy it from that gold. For RP reasons you can assume you kept the item and there for received less gold. But everyone gets the option of buying the same item..since it's a living RPG it's supposed to fair to everyone.
And I think you overestimated that wand..since we can buy it for 135 gp (It's listed on the chronicle).
Basically we made 479 gp each..and that's it (and we have some more options to buy stuff; like that wand)
Oh, and a sorta exception rule...consumables found and used during play still count for "found cash" so feel free to use potions of cure light wound when ever you find them..you won't loose cash at the end of the adventure if you drink them.
Dexter Gladstone |
Bah, my noobiness is showing - thanks for the correction. So, I want the short sword, do I just deduct the value of the sword from the 479gp?
And, since we're talking about PFS, how does XP work?
Darius Marel |
Normally you get 1 XP for each scenario played. You also earn "Fame" and "Prestige Points". Every 3 XP gains you a level. Fame and Prestige allow you to purchase special things or access more expensive items.
I believe this adventure awards 1 XP and 1 Prestige Point (which is the same as fame until you spend them).
You can also choose slow advancement, and collect just 1/2 XP, Fame/Prestige and gold from each scenario.
Athraz |
And since we are explaining things ;)
You can download the players guide (in case you haven't already) that will explain a lot of these things
What items you can buy is also limited by the amount of fame you have...it's to represent the favors the society is willing to go through to get your rare stuff. There's a table that list how much fame you need to have earned to get an item of cost X.
Exceptions to this are items you found yourself (as in they are on one of your chronicles and some stuff that you can always buy (Basic +1 weapons and armor and lvl 1 scrolls and potions for example). Normally this won't matter much since by the time you get the money to buy something you will have the fame as well.
And in case you have no clue what prestige/fame is..you use it to buy favors ..you can spend 1 or 2 to get items worth 350/750 gp, buy some spell casting services (I think it's 16 for a raise dead) or get vanities with them ..such as buy a bar or a town house
