"Well, that is not very informative" says Rhuul as he translates for everyone.
"Anyone want to try and get one of those stones?"

![]() |

Rhuul nods. "Maybe we just try one first..."
He rubs the place the Mimic bit him.
"No sense in tempting fate after all.

![]() |

"Fate has already got you... Or maybe it is Valais that has you..." grins Rhuul back at the captive demon.
I do hope she can keep it in check though.

![]() |

"Cowards!"
Gorum, lead me Guidance
Oloch enters the room and approaches to the stone to grab it.

![]() |

Kuraishimo watches the brave Oloch head forward, glad to have somebody else tortured by the room this time.

![]() |

Rhuul, staying outside the room, starts to cheer Oloch on.
"He's just a shadow of your glory Oloch. Better show him the light eh?"
Inspire courage and flag bearer +3 to hit and damage[
"I'd suggest the rest of us remain outside the room." he adds.

![]() |

"Some shadow tricks won't scare me!"
Oloch takes the shard 1st, if nothing hapens he takes the dark stone.

![]() |

The meek survive you say...I'm not meek, but i am not stupid too
Oloch takes the shard being ready to defend himself in case of shadow's attack

![]() |

Ha!
Oloch comes to his companions, gives the shard to someone (Rhuul for example)
"The shadow itself fears the mighty Oloch!"
He returns to the room and takes the shadow shard.

![]() |

"Aye...I guess it be my turn to risk me beard..."
He arranges his flag in one hand and the stone in the other, and then waits for the rest of the team to get arrayed next to the doorway. Only once everyone is ready does he insert the stone.

![]() |

"Agreed with you, Aetherys, let's proceed on our mission and return for this one later."
He follows her to the doors
Right before Rhuul inserting the 2 stones, Oloch prays to Gorum. cast Magic Circle against Evil, Bless, Shield of Faith and Bull's Strength, Communal Resist Energy (fire) and finally Guidance

![]() |

Aetherys follows Oloch's cue and casts shield and long arm from her wands.

"I'm not out yet!"
Kuraishimo exclaims as he casts haste, again.

![]() |

"Now... did one of you fine finger wigglers say something about a mage hand spell earlier? Because now I'm thinking would be the time to be usin it. That hole looks like it is custom made to take an arm and never let go."

![]() |

Kuraishimo shakes his head "Or a good summon monkey could help as well."

:-)
I can sense a pattern here.
The unseen servant opens the door. As soon as it does, a blade springs cutting the air. If your hands had been there, you would have lost it.
And lost it properly. I will write a long update later this evening. Stay sharp, final scene.

Scorched earth and burned grass cover this round chamber’s floor. In the center of the room stands a tall tree, its blackened bark seeping blood-red sap and its branches twisted and thorny. Glowing silvery runes circle the base of the tree. At the base of the tree lays a lithe, bronze-skinned man missing his left arm, a puddle of blood pooled beneath him. His right hand lies just inside the circle, and a single word is scratched in the dirt near his fingertips.
The ceiling of this room rises in a dome to a height of 25 feet. The glowing runes fill the room with dim light.
Guys I need you to place yourselves in the map. It would be very kind.

![]() |

"Well... here is the bleeding tree you dreamt of..."
The dwarf thinks back to the mission notes. "Could this be Laktharis? It demanded obedience, which seems to have been one of the themes..."
Then he notes the bleeding man. "Looks like he took a different way to open the door."

He then looks at the scratched in the dirt word. What does it say?

"He is an Azata, a holy outsider..." says Rhuul.
"Perhaps he knows of this god, or maybe he was one of the many creatures worshipped by these people as gods... but that blood looks fresh..."

"You took one for the team. Thank you Jeeves for your sacrifice. Rest in peace. " she prays aloud to commend the soul of her slain unseen servant to Sarenrae.

Valais goes inside the room, weapon in hand, scanning the scene.

Valais looks everywhere.
"I have a famILIAR SENSATION."
The azata sleeps now by Olochs side.
You hear a voice coming from the high ceiling.
“Mortals, bow before the sacred heartwood tree. Touch the bark and utter the sacred incantation written in the dirt. Then retrieve my staff, leave the circle, and present it before me. Only then can I take corporeal form.”
Aetherys moves towards the tree, bypasses the guard and picks it.
Sorry Aeth, it's a script thing!
At the same time, a demon appears close to the ceiling, its finger aims at Valais. One of his arms has been replaced with a pincer.
"You! You belong to me!You are one of the abominations. Has the one-eyed surgeon tracked me here? Are you his slaves? I will destroy him and all of his pawns, for I have advanced beyond the simple machinations of his lab! I am as far beyond demons as they are beyond you."

The snowball hits the demon in the chest. The demon looks at you, then at the snow, then scoffs and shakes the snow off.
"One would think people learn the lesson..."
