The dwarven explorer then attempts to discern whether the trapdoor is a trapped trapdoor or merely a trapdoor. "This seems a bit too easy, allow me a few minutes to look at this thing."

A smell, not unlike wet dog, positively bursts from the trap door. The corners of the room below are occupied by dirty straw pallets covered by wrinkled, mildew encrusted blankets. A single dilapidated table and four cracked and uneven chairs surround it. The floor is covered in a thin layer of dust and mud and footprints clearly cross the room from the trap door in the ceiling to a set of wooden double doors in the east wall.

A druid much like the one you saw before sits at the table, but looks up when the trap door is opened. He stands up with a start and shouts, "Intruders! Intruders are entering the lair!" A pair of rats point their noses up at you curiously.

I kinda want to hand-waive this encounter... it's literally identical to the first encounter. Thoughts? I'm happy to go ahead with it if you want more necks; I'm also happy to skip it if you want to get to something more interesting.

Drystan throws his knotted rope down the hole, securing it above and climbs down. He heads over to the trap and attempts to jam the mechanism.

A few sticks stuck under the plate should prevent it from depressing. Tossing a dead dire rat onto the plate, Drystan determines that his attempt was successful.

A search of the current room reveals a chest underneath the desk containing approximately 1,600 gold pieces in Cassomir trade bars.

Heading through the doors to the east reveals a long stairway, heading down dank, slippery steps descending into the gloom. Another pair of double doors lies at the far end.

Finding none, Isabella opens the door!

Tall vaulted ceilings disappear into darkness high above as candles and torches barely illuminate the lower reaches of this room. Along the north wall are three cell doors, thick wooden affairs bracketed by solid steel bracings with small, six-inch square windows set high in them. Enormous crates, barrels, and sacks of goods are stacked neatly in the southwest corner of the room. The floor is clean granite, etched with a wavy-line pattern that permeates throughout the entire room; the design even climbs the walls and disappears into the vaults above. A rat-shaped chalk drawing (that should be familiar at this point) dominates the floor in the center of the room, clearly depicting a dire rat leaning forward as if to pounce.

A ragged gentleman waits for you, as though you were expected. An odd amulet hangs about his neck, and beside him stands a truly nasty looking undead thing. When the door opens, he gives a shout and attacks. "For Groetus!!!"
