The thug from behind the bushes moves up and tries to slash Kath from behind....cutting the swashbuckler with his blade.
sword: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 for dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Meanwhile, inside the grand foyer at the top of the stairs...
A figure perfectly resembling Morvius in all physical
details comes out from the door to the north.
He stands at the top of the stairs and calls to
his thugs almost exactly in Morvius's own voice
“Slaughter these idiots and get to secure locations afterward. I’ve spared the children.”
The Morvius look-alike smiles evilly, and his
disguise fades away to reveal a handsome older man
with a ponytail.
“After all, there’s nothing more compelling
than a living witness.”
He then turns away and calls back into the room behind him reassuring them in his own rough, masculine voice
"It is ok children. I have chased that evil circus man off. I am here to save you from him hurting you. You will be safe."
August goes then round 2

Ah-ha! You who thought you were oh so clever will feel the sting of my blade!
2 Panache remain

GM Aarvid |

August delays...
Kath is able to Parry the blade.
Morvius heals his wounds.
Bo'alo misses the thug with his temple sword.

GM Aarvid |

The thug in the foyer swings his blade at Holman
"Hold still you little twerp!. "
shortsword: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 damage : 1d6 ⇒ 1
Nguyen An
Holman
Kath

![]() |

Holman stabs with both of his daggers at his opponent. The first goes wide, easily dodge by the thug, but the second strikes true.
Full-found action: Attack thug (TWF)
Attack (Dagger, TWF): 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 - 2 = 6
Damage (Dagger): 1d3 ⇒ 2
Attack (Dagger, TWF): 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 - 2 = 22
Damage (Dagger): 1d3 ⇒ 2

GM Aarvid |

Nguyen An moves into the hall and cuts down the man threatening Holman before the halfling can react.
Holman can take another action.
Kath rushes up the stairs....when he is halfway up, a different man pops up from besides the top rail and lobs a large sack at Kath.
"Oh drats! "
touch, higher : 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5. Missing Kath with the throw and the bag explodes into a pile of goo on the stairs.

![]() |

Just as an FYI - if Kath is attacked in melee he will attempt a parry/riposte
Parry: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
(If successful) Riposte-Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 6 - 1 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8

![]() |

Holman charges up the stairs and dodges around the mystery man, ready to flank with Kath.
Acrobatics (vs. CMD): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
I've apparently lost Holman's token, and I can't figure out where. If you could replace it, and put it east of the not-Morvius, that would be great...

GM Aarvid |

A second man from the other side throws a similar bag at Holman as he races up the stairs.
touch,higher: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 1 = 14 which just misses the Halfling as well. Sticky goo sprays on the stairway.
The thug outside swings wildly at Bo'alo, but misses.
sword: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 for dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 6
The ponytailed man at the top of the stairs, glares at
the two previously hidden men.
"Seriously, you could not hit either of them? Incompetence!"
He steps to the west and swings at Kath with a pair of blades.
"Fine. I will deal with them myself."
longsword, fav: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14 for dmg: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 = 5
shortsword, fav: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 24 for dmg: 1d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 2 = 9
The first blade misses, but the second appears to score a hit on Kath.

![]() |

In an attempt to save Kath some pain - did he have his weapons drawn already? It didn't sound like it was given the orignal description. Without quickdraw it would be a move action to do so, bringing the first attack to 16, which is still a miss, and making him unable to make the second. Regardless, the parry attempt fails and Kath is down to one panche point.

GM Aarvid |

By my reading he probably would have only had 1 weapon drawn based on his prior actions. I also just noticed that he should have moved to the western (open) door and not remained at the top of the stairs. So I can retcon the exchange and move him over and save Kath the panache and the hit if that is acceptable. He would have a different action in that case.

GM Aarvid |

Doh! I just missed editing my post by 1 minute.
The ponytailed man at the top of the stairs, glares at
the two previously hidden men.
"Seriously, you could not hit either of them? Incompetence!"
He draws his blades as he moves into the western (open) door.
"Deal with them now you idiots. I will take care of the children."

Argust Autumnwind |

Sorry about the delay, figures that the battle would start to move quickly when I did. Looks like I missed out on Round 1, I hate that. Moving on I guess!
August shifts and attacks the enemy next to him!
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 for Damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
If we have Bless or some other bonuses up I have not added them. However, it seems with a roll like this one you haven't missed me anyway. :)

GM Aarvid |

August moves up but misses the outside thug menacing Bo'alo.
=== Round 3====
21+Boalo
21-Morvius
11-Nguyen An
11--upstairs dudes
10+Holman

8-Outside Thug
7-Mystery man in bedroom
6-August
Morvius moves upstairs. Looking to the west he sees the open bedroom.
A boy and a girl look out the door and scream in fright when they see Morvius.
"Mister, please save us from the bad man! " they point directly at Morvius with horror in their small faces.
Bo'alo, Nguyen An are up....

![]() |

The thug in that room is staggered and has dropped his sword I believe - making him mostly harmless. The thug outside should have taken 10 damage from Kath's riposte.
I think it's a railing you could -probably- make an attack against him but he'd likely get a cover bonus, need the GM to rule on that though.

GM Aarvid |

The one downstairs inside is staggered. The one outside is still alive. The upstairs rail is not solid but does provide cover.

![]() |

An! Is everyone dead, An? August will move inside the building as the last thug outside falls. What was that all about? Where's Morvius?

![]() |

Upstairs? Right! August will follow An up the stairs as quickly as his stout dwarven legs will allow him.

GM Aarvid |

Nguyen An cuts down the unarmed man in cold blood.
The two men upstairs move and draw blades as they attack Kath and Holman.
"You heard the man! Die you circus freaks!"
On Kath blade: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 for dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
On Holman blade: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 for dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
10+Holman
10+Kath

![]() |

Holman, painfully aware of the benefits of flanking someone - and not wanting to be the recipient, calls out to Kath, "Get on the other side of that guy!". Once Kath moves, Holman steps over and directs his attention fully on the man targeting Kath.
Holman will delay until after Kath moves/attacks, then flank and sneak attack.
Not an action: 5' move, as indicated on map
Full-round action: Attack the thug to the west (TWF)
Attack (Dagger, TWF, Flanking): 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 7 - 2 + 2 = 16
Damage (Dagger, Sneak Attack vs. Flanking): 1d3 + 1d8 ⇒ (3) + (7) = 10
Attack (Dagger, TWF, Flanking): 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 2 + 2 = 27
Damage (Dagger, Sneak Attack vs. Flanking): 1d3 + 1d8 ⇒ (3) + (3) = 6
Critical Confirm (Dagger, TWF, Flanking): 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 7 - 2 + 2 = 17
Critical Damage (Dagger): 1d3 ⇒ 3

GM Aarvid |

Kath, if he chooses, can climb or jump over the rail to get to the other side of the man. He cannot 5' step there, however.

![]() |

On Kath blade: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 for dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
This attack was successfully parried, and I assume the riposte was successful so 8 damage to him, Kath down to 1 panche. Another 3 or 6 damage to him from Holman, which I think drops him.
Kath will attack his would be ambushers.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 6 - 1 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10
Go after... fake Morvius. I have this guy!
Currently working off the assumption that Holman dropped the one guy so moving Kath to the other thug on the map. If the assumption is wrong Kath will hold his ground and fight the one he currently is engaged with.
Possible parry: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 6 - 1 = 21
Riposte if parry is successful: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 - 1 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8

GM Aarvid |

Ok, will see if I get this right.
Kath parries the first dude's attack and stabs him back.
Holman moves up and stabs the same guy and drops him with 2 swift strokes.
Kath moves to the guy in the corner and drops him as well.
Leaving only the man in the bedroom with the children. He drops his blades and climbs out the window.
August then...

Morvius yells downstairs.
He is climbing out of a window on the west side of the house!
You guys downstairs, cut out his escape route!
Then he double moves to the window.
Nobody plagiarize the Charthagnions fool, you will pay for that insult.
Can I charge him? If so here are the rolls:
Charge: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10
Dmg: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

![]() |

I just realized I didn't make my move up the stairs on the map. I should have been able to get to the top with a double move. Now with a double move I should be able to get to the window where the last thug is. Too bad I can't attack but he should provoke if he moves.

GM Aarvid |

nobody can see him at present. He went out the window and down and there is a rope with a grappling hook still hanging. So no charging him without LoS.
August moves up the stairs and into the room. He sees the man down on the ground below the hanging rope. The children cry in terror and try to hide from August and especially Morvius if they see him in the hallway.
"No! Please don't hurt us!"
Is Bo'alo racing up the stairs then?

![]() |

I'm assuming that jumping may actually be fast enough that Holman could catch him?
The acrobatics check makes him ignore the first d6 of damage from the fall, and since he's deliberately falling that distance, the second d6 is nonlethal. That said, if the distance down is more than 20 feet, then this would most definitely not be his action.
Holman, seeing the man flee out the window, runs and takes a flying leap out the window himself, ignoring the rope altogether.
Acrobatics (DC 15): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

GM Aarvid |

Bo'alo moves up the stairs to see the two fallen men and two frightened children.
Morvius moves to the window and the children start screaming and crying and run from the room, trying to avoid him at all costs.
"Run!!! The bad man has returned. Don't let him get us."
Holman runs down the hall and jumps out the window. Nearly landing atop the mystery man as he falls.
