Well, let's see if this volley fares any better.
He takes out two additional arrows and tries to turn the dog into a pincusion.
First: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 1 = 91d8 ⇒ 2 +1 guidance
Second: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 51d8 ⇒ 8
And fails miserably.
ok, dice... ok

Looks like all the events in this fight start to amuse Kaleb. He is smiling, but however he is not distracted from the 'damn' dog.
Still total defense.
If nothing new will happen (the dog will move to another location, there will be new enemies, etc.) you can assume that it's all I'm going to do until the end of the fight. Consider this as a request for the following turns.

Shifty |

The melee ends rather swiftly, two of the beasts lay bleeding out, and one clearly wounded bloodied and bruised turns tail and flees.
Silence, other than the normal sounds of the Cairnlands, once again descends.
Ahead of you the tower awaits. A brief peruse past the opening reveals that the northern wing of the tower seems to have escaped the worst effects of the collapse, but rubble still litters the floor and everything is covered in a thick layer of stone dust.
Thick cobwebs cloak the ceiling and hang down the walls like gossamer tapestries. A single archway stands open in the southwest wall.

![]() |

Kaleb doesn't wait until the dog is out of sight, and moves to bypass the arch a little bit, first South, and then West to the wall. Near the wall he starts to sneak.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
His crossbow still in his hand. With the other hand he shows his comrades not to move. Stealthily he looks at the arch.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Ekanta advances only slightly.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
After briefly checking for footsteps, Anibal climbs up the hill and stands next to the wall, near Kaleb.
See anything interesting?

![]() |

Kaleb straightened to his full height, square his shoulders and no longer sneaking. He steps inside, and says deep and strong voice:
Goddess, by the grace of your Dark let me see any magic that is hidden from my eyes!
Cast Detect Magic
Kaleb will do all this things after some reaction from comrades who didn't write here after a fight finished, but before any other person step inside.

With the dogs down or fled, Lizbeth makes her way up the rubble towards the tower, joining Anibal, with a brief thought she sends a request to Tarantio to help observe.
"Well handled comrades, i did not see any, but is anyone injured?"

![]() |

His opponent fled and nothing to do for the time being, Tarantio surveys the ruined tower with great interest before getting Lizbeth's telepathic command, with a sigh he joins Kaleb at the archway and peers in. His eyes, enhanced by his death peer into the darkness with an eerie blue glow.
perception, darkvision: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

When the feral dogs are defeated, Ilsensine walks over to them. She seems to feel some sorry for the killing of the dogs.
"Nature's balance is off here," she says.
She places her hand over each creature, and some plants send forth vines to begin to cover the dogs.
"They will now continue the cycle of life..." she says before joining the others.

Cyrus draws his bow and moves up with the group toward the crumbling tower keeping an eye out for danger.

I hope the companions heard me - that 'ghoul' would be appropriate here at least, when the melee will start! - thought Caleb, realizing that he didn't kill the creature.

The spider is struck squarely with the bolt and has its chitinous shell cracked, but sprays back at Kaleb with a thick gob of webbing!

It gets caught in a cobweb, however.

Hearing her allies cry of surprise, Lizbeth rushes forwards into the tower, cursing the rubble littering the floor as it shortened her stride of of necessity. She makes it to her comrades however is unable to attack the creature.

![]() |

Tarantio calls out Kaleb when hearing his cry of surprise.
"Are you alright little buddy?"
He darts off through the ruined fortress, leavng a slight ectoplasmic trail behind him as he passes through the rubble, just about making it to Kaleb's side.
"Ahh that looks nasty!

Kaleb inserts a bolt into the crossbow (movie action), parallel turning to his comrades:
Incredibly good to see you, friends! Like we broke up just half a minute, but before my eyes flashed the eternity... At the feet of my Goddess... ahhh... Okay, I wouldn't talk about it.
Than he raises his crossbow and fires again into the spider (standard), taking a step back almost simultaneously with the shot (5-foot-step).

Having heard the sounds of battle, Anibal moves towards his companions as fast as possible, though the webbing slows him down.

Ekanta takes point, and tosses another chakram.
chakram: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

But he fumbles it as he tries to extract it from the case he keeps them in.

Kaleb moves to the wall next to the passage, but so as not to be in sight of the spider, in parallel inserting the new bolt in the crossbow. Standing against the wall, he is hiding himself again - fortunately, being all covered in cobwebs, it is not so difficult in this place.

There IS the Spring Attack feat to aspire to if such is your proclivity. You've certainly got the Dexterity, and it seems like it might suit you.

There you go - and it looks like you could learn both without too much trouble.

Thank you everybody, guys! :)
Ekanta, Shifty - yep, but cult leader changes most of his class bonus feats on sneak attacks - so I'll have totally not enough feats to take everything I want/need ;) Only 'must-have'. But thanks, I'll think about this.
Anibal - thank you too, man! I saw this of course and still think about Expert and Master Sniping. It's one of the options.
By the way, if we have such discussion. I have Darkness Blessing, that grants concealment to the blessed person for 1 minute... I plan to bless myself in serious fights - and go to stealth after every shot without penalty (cause I already have the concealment). Is it possible?
Perhaps I need to combine some of these options ;) We'll see. Thanks again everybody.

Sorry, couldn't post yesterday. I'm back.
Insensine surveys the giant spider, and again seems reluctant to harm these natural creatures. Still, the druid draws back an arrow and looses it.
As with her previous arrow, her lack of strength means the arrows do not strike with much force.

Instead of firing twice, he focuses his thoughts on a single shot.

Between Anibals arrow, and the bolt and beat down that follows, the spider is slain!
Ekanta, a couple more Fort saves as the poison courses along... :p
A small cocoon hangs in the webs, holding the remains of an unfortunate dog. The desiccated carcass is still wearing its leather collar, which is studded with lapis lazuli stones and has a silver tag reading “Kita.” You estimate collar is worth 50 gp.
Investigating the tower’s west wing you find it mostly choked with rubble, but a door in the eastern wall is still accessible. The door leads to a stone spiral staircase that runs through the center of the tower. Unfortunately, the stairway is also blocked with fallen rubble. It seems that if you wish to explore the tower’s upper levels, you will have to go back outside and attempt to climb the tower’s exterior walls.
