The inquisitor’s weapons count as magic for the purposes of bypassing damage reduction. A wealthy merchant needs either good guards, or good locks. Preferably both, but locks don't require wages or other overhand costs. Jaume Ibarr - locksmith by trade - moved to Katapesh precisely for this reason. He made a decent living with his craft, and life was good for him and his family. His son - Anibal - helped him in the workshop a bit, although reluctantly. Jaume thought his son would follow in his footsteps, but fate had other plans. While Anibal was not into the art of locks, spending several hours a day in his father's workshop yielded results. over the course of time, he acquired some knowhow and skill when it came to locks. Word of his skill got around, and in early teens, he was contacted by a few upstart burglars. He would help them break into various houses in town, or they would hurt him and his family. Anibal was not a strong child, and wouldn't be able to withstand such a coterie ganging up on him. And he definitely did not want mother and father to be hurt - he agreed. With a bit of luck and the locksmith's son helping, the upstarts gained a small fortune pilfering the Katapesh's Inner City district. But it wasn't enough. The burglars now named their little group - Kismet's Grasp - and decided they need to gain reputation. And so, with the help of Anibal, they would break into the Hall of Irori at night and steal the Plain White Cloth, one of the minor relics in Iroran faith. Supposedly used by the Perfect Man himself, the Cloth would always be clean and as if freshly ironed, even if used to clean spilled lamp oil mere seconds ago. Anibal was good with locks, yes. But his ability to move unnoticed, was an entirely different matter. Almost all of the heisters were caught and subdued within seconds. The lookout, standing outside of the Hall, managed to sneak away after seeing what happened. The monks listened to the child's plight, but justice had to be served and soon enough, the city guard took Anibal and Kismet's Grasp into prison. After a few days of questioning and explaining his situation, Anibal was released. Someone had paid for his freedom. Outside the jail gate, an Iroran monk waiting for Anibal to escort the child home. On the way home, keeping a slow and calm pace, she introduced herself as Ibai and asked the boy a series of questions. Anibal's mother cried tears of joy when she saw him. Father, on the other hand, was stern. Their child missing for several days without any sort of notice - Mother already searched the slave cages in the Bazaar and expecting the worst. After greeting with mother, Anibal turned towards Jaume, and noticed his hand is bandaged. He got slapped straight away. This was not the welcome Anibal expected. Father explained, that the day after Anibal did not return home, a man broke into their house and managed to cut off his right index finger "because of his snitching son". Jaume demanded an explanation immediately. His competence as a locksmith was severely reduced overnight and he rightfully demanded to know why. Anibal explained his situation in the last few months to his parents, while Ibai was quietly paying attention to the tale from the doorframe. Jaume was conflicted - while he was happy that Anibal wanted to protect his family, he did not raise a coward. And while his abilities as a locksmith were somehow limited, with Anibal's help, much shouldn't change in terms of income. From now on, as punishment, Anibal would also go help out in cleaning the Hall or Irori on a daily basis. This lasted several years, and punishment turned to chore, and chore to tradition. Anibal spoke - and if time permitted it - often meditated with the monks after cleaning up the temple. His father managed to partially overcome the impediment and Anibal got some discipline in his life. All seemed good. But there was one more unresolved issue in Anibal's life - Kismet's Grasp. The rest of the group were yet to be brought to justice. And so, on top of his other duties, Anibal decided to help the Watch in their capture. At this point, the group grew a bit and gained ground. The start was slow, but with intimate knowledge of their modus operandi, Anibal found, hunted down and brought over 40 Kismets and their associates to the office of the City Watch. The bounties he received in return were mostly split between the temple and his parents. Anibal might have found a calling in his life. It seemed that by putting a little more effort, he could be a decent bounty hunter. And so he started meditating and training with the monks. He found time to practice with a bow, and found it very much to his liking. He practices whenever possible, and while he got to a satisfactory level of marksmanship, there is always room to improve. And so he does, in the Iroran tradition, hone his body and mind whenever he can. He was contacted by the Pathfinder Society after apprehending a small-time thief. Apparently, this individual was cooperating with the Aspis Consortium and Venture Captain Steelborn was quite impressed by Anibal's efficiency in the matter. Soon after, Anibal received an invitation from a certain Venture Captain Ambrus Valsin to perform a few contracts for the Pathfinder Society in the Inner-Sea Region. The payments looked well, and the bounty hunter could have used a little variety - Katapesh dunes were getting a bit stale, after all. Anibal decided to accept soon after, sent a response to Valsin, packed some essentials and set out for Absalom - the city at the centre of the world.
