The halflings stab at Harrow, again. He takes another 20 HP of damage.

Berosius and Harrow are up next!

Berosius kneels over Mareq, sketching a rose on his forehead with charcoal.
Caster Level Check (Neutralize Poison): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 Drat!
That's neutralize poison. If the DC was higher than 16, Berosius fails to cure Mareq.

Harrow reels under the assault and can't quite get his bearings. He counterattacks and tries to move out of flanking position, but his counterattack is awkward. Another 5?

Round 2, continued
Harrow swings his nodachi in wild, looping arcs. His first swing misses its target by a wide margin. The enemy starts giggling and taunting the big lug--not expecting the back swing. Harrow rears back with a tremendous roar and smacks a halfling with the business end of his weapon. Having been struck squarely in the large intestine, the halflings pants immediately stain brown-yellow. (Target is demoralized for 3 rounds.)
Mareq mumbles something in his substance-induced soporific state. The party is sure that they can hear echoes of Husarq's smug laughter coming from somewhere.

A very upset Harrow steps forward, nodachi raised menacingly over his head.
"BAD MANNERS ATTACK PEOPLE EATING! HARROW NOT LIKE BAD MANNERS!"
He swings with malice aforethought.

"It is very rude," agrees Berosius, who entertains the faint hope still that Harrow is learning some table etiquette.
As his life link absorbs more damage from his half-orc pal, Berosius tries again to cure Mareq.
Cast neutralize poison.
Caster level Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 If that beats the DC of the poison, Mareq is cured.

ROUND 3, continued
Harrow screams and swings and screams and swings and screams some more. Somewhere in the outer planes, Ragathiel is pleased with the righteous vengeance wrought here. One of the halflings falls.
In the meantime, Berosius absorbs more of Harrows wounds. He also neutralizes the poison flowing through Mareq and awakens the prone summoner.
Mareq and Kelson are up!

"Whaaa hap'n?" mumbles Mareq as he becomes conscious. He groggily moves his head about, shaking off the effects of the poison-induced slumber.
He looks at the bleeding Harrow, the dead halfling at his feet, and the remaining halfing and his bloody blade.
He mutters under his breath and concentrates... until a small tear in the universe appears ten feet from the halfling. Burning flames jet from the rent in the planar wall. A fiery lion leaps through and charges the halfling!

The summoned creature pounces on a very surprised halfling. Unfortunately, the halfling is improbably dexterous, and he avoids all but one of the attacks.

Normally content with its lot as a servant of the Sultan of the City of Brass, Kelson's song of freedom tweaks a part of the fire lion's animal brain, making it think of the long burning savannas of the Elemental Plane of Fire and lazy days resting beneath spouting lava geysers...
The Lion Guardian from the City of Brass continues attacking the halfling in front of it.

Harrow screams and swings and screams and swings and screams some more!
Berosius, weighed down from the gravity of the wounds he has absorbed already, heals himself.
The summoned lion mauls the halfling.
Mareq tosses a snowball at the halfling.
The enemy halfling's eyes go wide as the lion and Mareq (bolstered by Kelson) smash him. The little fellow doesn't even had time to brown his pants.
The human experiences the Hershey squirts as Harrow lays into him. (Only the hasted attack hit. I added Kelson's bonus.)
Kelson is up!

Thanks for all the healing there, Berosius! I thought I'd go down for sure. You're amazing!

Kelson flanks the enemy human and stabs him in the kidney! The human screams in pain and drops the syringe.
The enemy human man then takes a five-foot-step away from Harrow and provokes an attack of opportunity from Kelson.
Awaiting the resolution of Kelson's action before the enemy human finishes his thing.

Mareq laughs! ”Oh no my friend. No no no.”
The ifrit throws some talc and powdered silver into the air and twists his fingers through the cascade of dust, muttering in Ignan.
The human becomes visible to his eyes once again. Mareq points and shouts, ”There he is!”
He casts See Invisibility

After this combat is over, and at the earliest possible convenient time, Mareq summons his thrall, Husarq. Upon doing so, his guardian lion vanishes back to the plane of fire.

![]() |

Kelson casts gltterdust.
The glittery, dusty visage of the enemy human is comically sad.
The lion eviscerates him and the human screams as his entrails are strewn about the room. (He's dead.) A slight curl appears on Mareq's face as he watches the carnage and thinks of Husarq.
Combat over!
__________
Just for fun...
Outside, it sounds like Cryp, too, has achieved success. The sounds of combat have subsided, and the horse's whinnies of victory are unmistakable.

![]() |

Harrow frowns at the dead. "Maybe that be lesson in good manners," he says as he gathers some more of the tarts.
"Cryp like tarts. He bad horse, but maybe tarts help him be good horse."
He prods the chamberlain with his toe. "Wakey wakey."

![]() |

Ionnia awakens. Despite Harrow's prodding, she remains polite and professional. "Oh! Did I fall? How clumsy of me." Then, she notices the blood and guts all over the floor. "What happened to the waiters?" she asks with alarm rising in her voice.

Berosius quietly casts enhanced diplomacy.
"Our visit is no mere happenstance, good lady," says Berosius. "My master is here on matters of state. There are those of ill intent to wish to stay his mission and were willing to take lives to accomplish that. Now is the time for patriotic Taldans to come to the aid of their country. Rendering aid to my master's mission is aiding Taldor, I assure you."
