Ok, that's still not represented by what's on the map. If this is supposed to be 3 eagles on the xill, 2 eagles on the wizard, with the wizard-targeting eagles flanking via the Z-axis, and the three xill-targeting eagles not flanking, I will adjust the map and proceed. Sound good?

Male not always to the swift nor the strong. Bard6 / Paladin2 / Fighter2 / Magus4 / Dad2

Ok, I'm looking closer, and I'm still not entirely sure they're all there (the best I count is 5, but close enough), but I'll just go and see if I can't nuke a few to declutter the space and make it easier to understand.

An eagle furiously hovers and screeches, tearing at the unconscious wizard, ripping at her neck and face, showering the ground below and the warehouse wall with gore. It is hard to think anyone would survive the wounds she seems to have now.

The other four attack the xill, but seem unable to penetrate the constantly shifting defenses of its many arms and talons. In response, the xill lashes out at the eagles around him, a whirlwind of claws and mandibles. It bites at the eagle overhead, trying to clip its wings.

bite, the one over the xill: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
mandible damage: 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Eagle Fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

This causes the eagle to plummet to the ground, allowing the xill to lash out at it in an attack of opportunity.

Talon, on the paralyzed eagle: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
damage, opportunity talon: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

The outsider catches the eagle and crushes it in a shattering of glass and a flash of sunlight on a lake's surface. It then hungrily grabs for more,

1st Talon, on the top eagle: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
damage, 1st talon: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

2nd Talon, on the top eagle: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
damage, 2nd talon: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

and this one it catches, a wing in either claw. It pauses half a breath before rending it into two pieces which crumble like a mirror falling apart and each shard a sliver of sunlight.

3rd Talon, on the 9-oclock eagle: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
damage, 3rd talon: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

3rd Talon, to confirm: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
damage, critical talon: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

The xill's third talon shoots out at a flapping eagle, crushing its skull in its claws. Its final attack targets at the eagle just south of the doorway, trying to kill it.

4th Talon, on the 6-o'clock eagle: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
damage, 4th talon: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Catching it just under the head, the xill's claw slashes downward, disemboweling it, and the raptor discorporates in a shower of glass and sunbeams which disappear before anyone can blink. It looks once more at the tiefling bleeding on the courtyard floor, its jaws working hungrily, and then back up at dwarf on the roof. The xill hisses and all four of its talons orient to face Sickly, flexing open and closed, though it stares at the remaining eagle.

Not what I would have liked for it to have spent the round doing, but a round well spent.

Down to 2 eagles, that'll help =)

Sickly, leaps over the side of the building, one hand reaching back towards a small overhang, and swinging around it, to another ledge, bouncing off that, to end up landing on the ground, across from the outsider almost where he started a few moments before!

still have one round of climb speed left, so might as well climb down within range! Pretty sure I can't 5' step down the side of the building to swing twice, so all the way down he goes!

He shakes one finger slightly, sure that he managed to get a sliver, but powers through the pain as he grabs his hammer and takes a powerful swing at the Xill.

Single swipe!

Melee vs Xill, PA: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 12 + 2 = 32, for 2d6 + 14 ⇒ (4, 3) + 14 = 21 damage.

Sidney continues to summon eagles from the bottom of the pit.

Full round MS 1 completed - another started.

DC 15 eagle 1 to hover: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
DC 15 eagle 2 to hover: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

One of the eagle hovers, while the other withdraws from the combat to make another pass. A third eagle appears and rapidly charges the evil creature.

eagle 2 bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7
eagle 2 claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 121d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4
eagle 2 claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4

eagle 3 charge bite: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 2 = 251d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7
eagle 3 confirm bite/extra damage: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 2 = 231d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7

The eagle just appearing seems to learn from the failed attacks of his companions, and his smiting attack hits the outsider squarely.

Eagle 1 has 2 rounds left, Eagle 2 3 rnds and Eagle 3 has 4 rnds left -- If there is a missing eagle, I will add him and roll for him

The last eagle makes another rush at the creature (if he exists--eagle number 4).
eagle 4 charge bite: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 2 = 241d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

He's 40 feet down, and then around the cover of the edge...it'd be like standing 15 feet south of Sidney's position and trying to shoot him with something. Testing that out...If he takes a 5-foot step back, yes, he can sling a stone at the xill. If he does not, I'd say it has improved cover to Gruug.

To be clear for Gruugdúrz: Yes, you may sling a stone at the xill. It has improved cover relative to your current position. If you take a 5-foot step back, to the other side of the pit, it simply has cover relative to that new position.

Gruugdúrz cannot kill the xill with a sling stone, even on a critical, so I will proceed while we wait for him to decide if he's going to fire one off or not. :)

The xill is caught off guard by Sickly's acrobatics, and takes the full brunt of the dwarf's hammerblow. Sidney's eagles scream and wheel, and it is the newly summoned eagle which rips at one of the xill's arms, leaving raw punctures.

The xill steps through the gap, however, ignoring the eagles to strike Sickly in a furious last press.

The xill bites Sickly viciously on the forearm and then lashes out with claws, ripping at his chest and abdomen, looking for weaknesses in the plate. Heavy fists dent the metal near his collarbone with a wet crack, before grabbing ahold of the dwarf's armor and pulling him close. One claw leaves a deep, bloody slash down the warrior's thigh, ripping his pants under the greave. A third talon tries to find purchase near Sickly's collar, while the thumb of the fourth claw goes for his face. Sickly twitches to the side in the tumble, raising a dark, purple furrow down the side of his skull.

Which brings us to Sickly, either at -29 or at -40 and paralyzed, but grappled by the xill. The xill is at -51 unless Gruug hits it with a sling stone. If Sickly is paralyzed, the xill will release the grapple as a free action.

That's fine, but as you start the next round, you'll take damage, and need to make a DC 20 to stay on the wall. Failure indicates you fall. If you do not fall, you need to make a second check to climb the rest of the way up. At a normal check, it will use 40 of your 60 feet to get to the top. With an accelerated check, it will use 20 feet. As far as I can tell, the damage will not impose a penalty on the check (although I could have sworn it did). Your previous position had you out of the pit. I've put you back inside, shift inside the red box as appropriate, but I'd presumed you stepped toward the far wall to get a possible shot with the sling last round.

There we go.

In a tempest of talons and beaks, the celestial eagles surround the xill, ripping at its eyes and throat as the outsider remains tangled with Sickly. Succumbing to these wounds, it releases the dwarf and falls to the ground, smoldering before beginning to discorporate as innumberable red worms, which pour into the cracks between flagstones before evaporating-- all in the span of a few heartbeats.

At the same time, the wizard's body ceases to float at the height of the warehouse roof, where it had remained since the eagles savaged it.

crunch: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Her body lands with a wet crunch in pool of blood which had formed beneath her but streamed into the warehouse, her leg bent at a strangely obtuse angle in front of her, and her torso lying face up, down the eldritch slope of her spell. The spatter of the impact leaves an arc of crimson high on the stucco'd wall. The magic of the spiked pit remains active, and unattended, her body slides and rolls into the void, past Gruug...

the karma, it stabs: 4d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 2) + (4, 3) = 19

...where it strikes the bottom in a terrible, mangled heap.

For the moment, it seems the combat has ended.

I really only need Gruug's climbing checks, and then we can proceed outside of initiative in text for a bit. Please don't fall, Gruug. It would terribly complicate things. ;)

Sickly continues to punch at the xill until he realizes it has been defeated by the eagles. With a relieved sigh, he immediately kneels down beside Saarai to assess her condition, as he pulls out his well-used and well-maintained healing kit, always close at hand.

If she's not stable: Take 10 (for a 15) to stabilize her!

Once stable:

Once he's sure she's not in any immediate danger of bleeding out, he pulls out a small packet from the kit, and pours a foul-smelling yellow powder over the xill bite marks he can see, then places a bandage over the whole thing, creating a poultice.

Take 10 again with healers kit (for a 17) to treat poison.
Think the GM said this might work... beats the DC so should give a +4 bonus on the new save (won't notice if it works, given she's unconscious still ... but can't do much about that just yet)

Seeing Gruugdúrz crawling out of the pit, his eyes go wide at all the wounds the half-orc seems to be sporting, though he doesn't comment.

"Hold this in place." he mutters, pointing at the poultice. "Give it moment, will draw the poison out. Might help." He glances worriedly towards stable. "I have to see if Miyako is alright."

Leaving Gruugdúrz to watch Saarai, he hurries over to the first pit, pulling out a rope, and finds somewhere to tie it off.

I'm assuming we're out of initiative at this point... but this all will take only 2 rounds.

He then slides down the rope with remarkable swiftness, to land beside Sidney and the unmoving kitsune at the bottom.

"Is she alright?" He asks Sidney, as he kneels down beside her too, pulling out his kit once more and using the same treatment he just performed on Saarai.

"Id shud draw oud da poishuns." He mutters, his nose starting to congest again, and his eyes starting to water, as he gets near the kitsune.

Fast climb down the rope (can't fail), then once again take 10 (for a 17) to treat poison. A new save with a +4 bonus? and 2 more rounds down.

He then digs out an antitoxin, in case the poultice isn't enough.

fort save, new save: 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 4 = 20

Male not always to the swift nor the strong. Bard6 / Paladin2 / Fighter2 / Magus4 / Dad2

After he slides down the rope and applies the poultice, Sickly and the others realize the pit has silently raised itself to the surface, its effect ended. Another few moments, and the spiked pit disappears, bringing the wizard's mangled body to the warehouse floor with no small amount of gore around it.

With her appearance, and the conclusion of combat, the prisoners in the northern stalls press up against the bars. There are easily two dozen slaves, and all of them want to be freed. It has been barely two minutes since your group of Pathfinders entered the compound, and absolute chaos and destruction has reigned. The rooftop bell has barely stopped ringing.

1d3 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 9 - 1 = 10

How do you want to proceed? Yes, Miyako may make a new saving throw. Saarai will not be paralyzed when she awakens.

Approx. Round 18
Saarai [at -6HP, prone, stabilized, unconscious]
Miyako [-25, paralyzed, prone]
Gruugdúrz [-41]
Sidney [-16]
Sickly [-21]

That completes all the round-based effects at this point. I'll need to keep basic track of time, but we don't need to act in a round-by-round fashion until you engage someone or something new.

I should've used it the first time around, but I don't like using it unless it's an emergency and I totally underestimated the situation. I figured I'd be paralyzed for a minute at most, while the others would beat everything up with relative ease. (Most scenarios I play in turn out to be cakewalks, and it shows in how I approached this situation...)

"Gah!" Miyako exclaims while rapidly rolling away from Sidney.

She quickly gets to her feet, dusts herself off, and picks her rapier up.

"I thought I was going to die!"

Her gaze moves from ally to ally, from wound to wound. "Dear heavens... I didn't really understand what was happening outside the pit, but... It looks like we're all lucky to still be alive."

Realizing there's a momentary rest, Miyako quickly whips out her wand of healing and starts patching everyone up.

No need to spend your own wand charges here. The heals are fully on me, to sort of make up for not using that reroll before so I could help you in combat instead of lie unmovingly inside a pit.

Sickly looks up, slightly startled as the pit raises up and he and the others are back on the stable floor.

He will go over towards the cells, hesitantly. "Are any of you Riftwardens?" He asks, quietly, not sure what one might look like... the tumult of the slaves almost drowning out his voice.

Do we know what the Riftwardens look like, or their names?

Slightly put off by the throng, he backs away quickly, instead stopping to examine the dead body of the wizard, hoping she might have a potion or the like that might help Saarai.

(in case the heal check didn't work on Miyako)

aka: Grab the wizard lady's stuff, before the throng gets let out of the cells and mobs over everything! =0

If there's a potion:
He takes the potion nervously, examines it for a label. Not seeing one, he pops the top, sniffs it, sneezes, then pokes a finger in and tastes it briefly trying to determine if its harmful... hoping it doesn't have nuts or shellfish in it (or dairy!)

Miyako, that would take like 3 minutes to do all that healing! I think we need to just get people mobile, and then sort out if there's any Riftwardens in these prisoners, if not, go into the main building and find them quickly! Heal as we go, can't spend 3 minutes here I don't think.

2 minutes and 36 seconds. I'll just follow you guys around, constantly tapping you with the wand as you do whatever else needs to be done here before we get the hell out, as I feel like healing up is pretty important before we face the next section.

"Maybe someone else can open the prison and start talking to the prisoners while I heal everyone up?" Miyako suggests while tapping and healing everyone at a crazy pace. "They may know where the guys we're looking for are."

Male Half-Orc Bloodrager (inactive)

@ terraleon:
This is a bit of rubber-time stuff, so I hope I got it right:
• Gruugdúrz will wait until his HP is 11/54, then end his bloodrage
• Which will leave him at 1/44 HP, with 2 rounds of rage left
• Putting him at 3/44 HP, and fatigued for 30 rounds (3 minutes)
• He will then pour one of his two potions of Infernal Healing into Saarai
• And then he'll down his last potion of Infernal Healing
• So, one minute later he should be up to a hale and hearty 13/44 HP :o
• He still fatigued for another 2 minutes after that
• I've changed my status line to reflect that
• Let me know if I need to correct anything there

Once he's out of the pit, Gruugdúrz goes to Saarai and pours some horrid tasting stuff down her throat (a potion of Infernal Healing).
« Kippis! »

orcish:
"Cheers!"

He then gathers together his weapons he dropped in the fight, and scarfs down his last potion of Infernal Healing.
« Inhottavaa lääkettä, tämä »

orcish:
"Disgusting medicine, this"

He then ends his rage and staggers to Miyako, pulling out a wand from his gear:
"Here, Miyako, a healing wand you can use to patch everyone up."
"Never used, actually. Enjoy!"

@ Miyako; it's a wand of CLW with 50 charges. Go wild! :o

Then, to nobody in particular, he says:
"While you lot do your magic, I need a rest. I'm ever so tired."

He unceremoniously sits down against the nearest vacant stretch of wall to catch is breath.

I'll go at about a minute at a go for right now, then.

Sickly kneels next to the mangled body of his recent, nameless foe, barely recognizable as a Garundi woman. Quickly searching her bloody form, he finds a crystal flask filled with a robins' egg blue liquid that swirls and shimmers, a crimson stained canvas scroll tube with what feels like a couple of scrolls, a yew baton roughly 13 inches long and reasonably pliant, and her coffee colored, leather cloak, lined with cotton and trimmed in gold. The cloak has a number of small punctures in it, but still seems amazingly well constructed. Her belt pouch seems heavy with coins and she has an empty scabbard on her thigh. The dwarf calls over to the clamoring throng just a few feet away.

"Are any of you Riftwardens?" He asks, quietly, not sure what one might look like... the tumult of the slaves almost drowning out his voice.

You do not have descriptions of the Riftwardens. Only that there were four and you knew they were alive.

He takes the potion nervously, examines it for a label. Not seeing one, he pops the top, sniffs it, sneezes, then pokes a finger in and tastes it briefly trying to determine if its harmful... hoping it doesn't have nuts or shellfish in it (or dairy!) Finding it mildly invigorating, he believes it to be a potion of cure moderate wounds.

Meanwhile, Miyako comes over, tapping Sickly lightly several times. As she does so, between invocations of the wand and its momentary flashes of soft blue light, she says,

"Maybe someone else can open the prison and start talking to the prisoners while I heal everyone up?" Miyako suggests. "They may know where the guys we're looking for are."

Continuing with her wand she heals herself before walking over to Saarai.

In the first minute, that heals Miyako and Sickly to full then she can walk over to Saarai.

Gruug utters a few comments to Saarai in orcish, ignoring the din from the warehouse and administering another sulfurous infernal healing potion to the tiefling. Once certain the noxious concoction is working, the half-orc stumbles over to Miyako.

"Here, Miyako, a healing wand you can use to patch everyone up."
"Never used, actually. Enjoy!"

Then, to nobody in particular, he says, "While you lot do your magic, I need a rest. I'm ever so tired."

He unceremoniously sits down against the nearest vacant stretch of wall to catch is breath.

I put you at a *clean* stretch of wall, Gruug. Sickly, feel free to ask a couple of questions or do a couple of things in there. Sidney, chime in when you have a moment. Saarai, you've got a few rounds in there to react, too. Once everyone has chimed in, we'll proceed to the next. I want to make sure everyone has an acceptable/comfortable number of actions in here, time is still an element in this adventure at this moment.

Sidney has his four eagles perform a quick aerial reconnaissance. He felt four was a propitious number, and they begin a fast flight to the four compass directions, N, E, W, and S.

Sidney ensures his mage armor is intact and begins to help the search of arcane gear of the splattered caster.

Eagles have 80' of flight speed and variable durations. Will try to gain the most of scouting with them.

Ok, as a reminder, you're in a city, one not known for its love of divine anything, including outsiders-- what instructions do you give them? One only has a round left so it's not going to get far. Another has two rounds, so it can go out and come back and report before vanishing, then three rounds and four rounds. There's certainly room for some creativity here, so go for it.

EDIT: Fixed Saarai's HP, she's down -29, not -4. Inversion, heh. This is why I should stick to 1's and 0's.

"Especially when I'm feeling this delicate."

@ terraleon:

After all that (by round 29), what HP do you have me at?

No spellbook on the wizard? Guess was too much to hope for... thought Saarai might get a present!

Sickly quickly grabs any items of interest on the garundi woman and shoves them in his bag for later examination.

He waves Miyako away, after she starts to heal him, pointing towards Saarai. "Her. Get her." He mutters, eyes downcast like he can't look her in the eye as he absently wipes his nose.

He'll take the first heal, then turn her away to heal others first after that.

We do not have the luxury of resting and licking our wounds guys! The guards (or god forbid the Pure Legion) are on their way! We have to find the riftwardens and get out of Dodge! Or at the very least, be further into the compound and hope they get distracted by fleeing slaves =)

He looks over at Gruugdúrz sitting against the wall, and frowns like he wants to say something, but doesn't.

Heh, he's the shy unassuming type... so would be out of character for him to tell Gruug to get off his ass and help out =)

Instead, he turns back to the prisoners. "I can let you out, but I need to know if you know of any Riftwardens?" He says again, for the first time, not muttering. "Are there more inside?" He adds, indicating the direction of the main building. "Is this all of you? Four of them, came together... anyone?"

He watches them hopefully, in case one of them is listening and says something useful through the din.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32

Fetching his rope, he then takes his adamantine weapon and smashes the lock clean off the cage.

Pretty sure a 2d6+14 adamantine blow will break a lock quicker then picking it, or searching for a key!

"You can go over the wall, it is clear. But use the rope. Others have fallen." He holds up the rope, handing it to the first one that takes him up on the offer to vacate. Still looking for signs of the Riftwardens as he moves on to the next cage to bust the lock off that one too.

"We've had a hard time of it, so I'm not my usual cheery self!"
"We will get you out of here, but just calm down!"
"Just tell us where any other prisoners might be."
"And follow this dwarf's directions,
as he points to Sickly,
"so he can get you out of all the faster"
