About GruugdúrzGruugdúrz Staz Dushûrz ("Gruugdúrz the Magic Beast") is a half-orc who lost both his clan and family. He sold himself as a gladiator and fought for a time in the arena in Tymon, before buying back his freedom and being asked to join the Pathfinder Society to help protect less robust explorers. Early Life:
Early Life of Gruugdúrz Staz Dushûrz Gruugdúrz is a nomad without a clan. He grew up in a small clan of nomadic half-orcs eking a meagre living moving throughout the various River Kingdoms. He was less ferocious than most of his clan, but had larger and sharper tusks than most half-orcs. Which he could use to inflict damaging bites. But nothing else marked Gruugdúrz as unusual until a fateful day when he was on the verge of manhood. His clan had the misfortune of being caught between one of the frequent wars between Tymon and Razmiran. The clan were set upon one day by a large Razmiran patrol who demanded the entire clan sear allegiance to Razmir, their living god, or be put to the sword. The clan refused, valuing their freedom above all else. A fierce fight to the death was the inevitable result. Gruugdúrz and his clan acquitted themselves well in battle. But the followers of Razmir had the advantage of numbers and it seemed that this would be the last day of their small clan. While fighting alongside his parents, Gruugdúrz saw his bride to be, Zelpeg, being impaled by a Razmiran sword. At that moment, both his mind and body exploded with an incandescence hotter than any forge. When the fiery fog in his mind had lifted, Gruugdúrz was standing, exhausted, amid the slaughter of battle. He was surrounded by many shattered and mangled Razmiran corpses. Gruugdúrz himself was awash in gore. There were no Razmiran survivors. Gruugdúrz was consoled by surviving clan members that his immediate family all died fighting bravely. Although it was a cold comfort in the aftermath of battle. He was surprised to learn that not only had he fallen into a rage, hardly unknown among half-orcs, but he had claws the size of daggers that tore through leather armour and flesh alike of many Razmiran soldiers, and causing blind panic among the others. Which turned the tide of battle, and allowed the clan to live on. They buried their dead, and left Razmiran corpses (stripped of valuables) as a sumptuous feast for crows and vultures. Gruugdúrz and the other survivors sought refuge briefly in Tymon. Gruugdúrz sold himself to be a gladiator in Tymon. Partly to raise funds to help his clan rebuild, but mostly because he doubted if he would be able to tell friend from foe once enraged. The arena taught him how to focus his rages solely on his foes. His ferocity in the ring was a spectacle to behold. Both terrifying and thrilling. Gruugdúrz was soon given an orc stage name: "Staz Dushûrz", or "Magical Beast". Gruugdúrz now uses "Staz Dushûrz" as a patronym. He enjoys seeing eyebrows raised by people who understand Orc when he tells them his full name. He soon earned enough money in the arena to buy back his freedom. His clan had long since moved on and he had no idea what he should do next. Some of his admirers approached him the day after he bought his freedom. They were members of the Pathfinder Society, and offered him a place in their ranks. Gruugdúrz was no fool, and they always needed formidable talent, like his, to protect the society's less robust scholars and agents. He would be a welcome addition to any expedition. With neither family nor clan, Gruugdúrz gladly accepted this offer.
