Perhaps there was some truth to the prince's tale after all, Zuriel says, also applying the magic oil to his blade.
Let's proceed with caution.

Bevek Verdade

Bevek will collect Relios' journal.
This explains where the wayfinder came from. Hopefully the VCs back in Augustana will be able to make sense of these accounts. Who knows, there might even be some useful information in here somewhere.
After looking over the "portal" and hearing the discussion regarding the scroll, Bevek says:It looks to me like someone was able to summon something from another plane, although I'm not sure it came through there. What that something looks like is anyone's guess at the moment. But we may be about to find out...
Hearing the noises, Bevek draws his bow, and nocks an arrow.

Dolres holds off enchanting her weapon until she sees the enemy.
"Well lets see what they brought us to play with shall we?"

While you are discussing what could be in the next room you find out as it comes around the corner..
This creature's bloated frame shudders with each heaving step, yet despite its shape, the thing moves with surprising quickness.

[dice=stealth slowly approaching the noise] 1d20 + 2 - 5
DM Revvy--In this post I had intended to start slowly approaching in the direction of the noise, but now the creatures are directly upon us. Is there anyway I could at least switch spots with Dolres on the map (prior to my turn) to indicate my intent to go over there? That way I get my AoO when the things approach(I have Combat Reflexes) and can fight them with my reach weapon. Standing where I am, the naginata is useless. I only ask because I did state that Zuriel started moving over there (though, I realize, I might have been unclear because I put it in the dice description instead of directly stating it). If what's done is done, no biggy, I'll just use a different weapon.

Sure, I'll admit that the way I've put you guys in the map was a bit random anyways (feel free to put your selves on the map how you want
Zuriel Heihachi
|
Ok, thanks! Here comes my AoO from combat reflexes, then my turn.
Zuriel swings his weapon at the oncoming creatures, steeling himself.
AoO from reach, vs middle foe: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
damage, counts as magical and good-aligned: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Beset on all sides, he closes his eyes, and lets out a scream. When he opens them again, they glow with a red, arcane hue.
He throws his weapon down and draws a flail, swinging it with reckless abandon.
Grrraaaaaagh!
Free--enter blood rage
Free--drop naginata
Move--draw flail
Standard, attack middle creature with two-handed flail bash: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Hopefully that will open up a lane for you, Torg.
Bevek Verdade
|
Aahhh! Anyone know what these things are?
Bevek will launch an arrow over Zuriel's shoulder. Shooting into melee.
Shortbow: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 3 - 4 = 11
Damage(cold iron): 1d6 ⇒ 3
Yakima Thule
|
Yakima sees her chance and decides that maybe acid would work better than fire against these things if they are outsiders like her. She draws one of her newly acquired acid flasks and tosses it into the square directly behind the center bad guy.
Thrown Acid Flask Attack(Flag Bearer+Point blank - cover and 1 range increment): 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 - 4 - 2 = 20 to hit the hex. Splash damage of 7 to each monster (Ref15 to avoid)
Zuriel Heihachi
|
Whoops, I forgot about the flag bearer bonus (even though I called someone out on it earlier, haha). If it's not too late, add 1 attack and damage to my attacks up. Sorry!
Dolres
|
knowledge planes: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
"These are dretches a type of demon."
She then touches her axe and it begins to glow. Dolres moves up as far as she can ready to attack anything that gets in her reach.
Quick action using my arcane pool to give my axe a +1 for 1 min.

Zuriel with 2 hits is able to bring one of the creatures down.
Reflex save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Reflex save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Yakima lobs a flask of acid splashing some very biting acid over the creatures..but it most of it just runs of their oily hides.
Bevek shoots an arrow at one of the creatures but due to the angle he is unable to hit
Torg swings at one of the creatures as it steps closer For future reference, feel free to roll your own readied attacks when you announce the action, I'll roll now to keep the pace goingto hit power attack, with flag bonus: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7 but he swings wildly through the air
The creatures both go into a flurry of attacks directed at Zuriel even if one of them has to reach around the corner to try to get his attacks in.
To hit Zuriel's AC claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
To hit Zuriel's AC claw: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
To hit Zuriel's AC bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
To hit Zuriel's AC claw: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 4 = 6
To hit Zuriel's AC claw: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 4 = 16
To hit Zuriel's AC claw: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 4 = 1
but all attacks bounce of Zuriels though armor..or the corner of the wall
Dolres went before it was her turn..so she can change her action if she wants now

Sorry for going too soon. I think I will keep my action because I cant reach them this turn. I only move 20
Yakima Thule
|
Hmm, I guess fire is worth a shot! Yakima tosses a bomb at the same spot as the acid flask
Bomb (point blank+flag bearer - cover): 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 7 - 4 = 17
7 fire damage splash to each Dretch (Ref 15 to avoid)
Bevek Verdade

Bevek draws another arrow and tries again.
Shortbow: 1d20 + 3 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 - 4 + 1 = 2
...and again the arrow goes wide.
Tatiana Ungaro

Tatiana takes a good look at the creature that Dolres called a Dretche Demon. She observes her team having trouble striking the evil outsider, and decides to increase moral by beginning a oratory performance designed to inspire courage.

"This is LESS graceful than out last encounter!"
Power attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 25

Since I've just been informed that Zuriel took some damage..
Damage Zuriel claw: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Damage Zuriel bite: 1d4 ⇒ 3
gotto love these toned down dretches just be careful when/if you meet them again...they might be a bit harder to deal with then
Dolres moves forward, booster her weapon as she goes
Yakima tries to see if fire is more effective then acid
Reflex save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Reflex save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12
..and finds out that the answer is; no
Bevek repeats his earlier action by shooting an arrow into a wall while
Tatiana inspires everyone
And Torg with a powerfull swing slices through one of the dretches.

Dretch
You guys again
Damage dretch: 4
Zuriel Heihachi
|
2 of the earlier dretch attacks should have hit me (my bloodrage gives me -2 AC, sorry for not specifying earlier). So I got hit by one claw and one bite. I'll take my turn after I see if I'm still conscious ;-)
Zuriel Heihachi
|
Zuriel ignores the wounds and steps up to engage the remaining dretch, swinging his flail with murderous rage and deadly force.
5 ft step one square left, can't change the map right now.
two-handed flail attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 26
damage: 1d8 + 7 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 + 1 = 15
After delivering the crushing blow, the arcane energy dissipates, and Zuriel's grasp on his weapon falters. He slumps over, exhausted from the effort.
Bloodrage ended, 4/6 rounds remaining. Fatigued for 4 rounds. HP: 3/12
Torg Ice-Breaker
|
Fairly certain that will have killed it, if soooo, also drop rage.
Torg shoulders his weapon.
"That was impressive, sorcerer. Never seen anything like that from a magician before."
Zuriel Heihachi
|
Zuriel shakes his head as he struggles to catch his breath. He wipes the gore off his flail and stows it, then retrieves his naginata and leans on it heavily.
I'm no sorcerer--my mother was. She tried to teach me her art when I was young, but I was nothing more than a disgrace to her. What you saw was the fruits of her labors, or, rather, the failure. It is not a side of myself I like to show to others.
Tatiana Ungaro

Tatiana ends her Oratory performance, then bows her head in prayer to Sarenrae.
Sarenrae, Scuti aceste răni
After spending a moment in prayer, Tatiana reaches out and bestows her last cure light wounds on Zuriel.

To Zuriel: Remind me to stay on your good side.
Someone was able to summon these things from elsewhere. I'm not convinced it was our friend Gandros, though. Unless he found something he shouldn't have been messing with. Maybe he did summon these things, and they turned on him. Wouldn't be the first time a conjurer screwed up a summons.
Bevek will step into the next room and look for anything useful.
Dolres

One of these times I will have enough time to move up and fight :)
Dolres will move up and look into the next room, ready to attack anything in there.
Zuriel Heihachi

Zuriel's demon-inflicted wounds close up rapidly from Tatiana's spell.
Thank you, I am in your debt.
He stands tall, rejuvenated enough to continue.
To Zuriel: Remind me to stay on your good side.

Zuriel manages a smile, despite the demon corpses mere feet away.
You have nothing to fear from me, friend. As grusome as it is, perhaps we should take one of the foul creatures back with us, to study its origin? I have no knowledge of such things, but I agree with you--I don't think Gandros could have done this.
Revvy Bitterleaf
|
After Zuriel takes down the last dretch you move through the rest of the Emporium taking your time to search all the vaults.
Mixed among the wreckage of the vaults are: brooch of shielding (30 charges), potion of enlarge person, a screaming bolt, wand of shocking grasp (50 charges), and a gold necklace worth 300 gp.
(Since it doesn't matter for time I'll assume that you take 20 or just keep trying Spellcraft/Appraise until you identify/Value everything.)
What do you want to do now?
Dolres
|
"It appears we have another room to look at. Shall we?"
Saying that Dolres opens the door to the next room.
Yakima Thule
|
I think we came in that door Dolres, in fact I believe that in fact we have discovered pretty much everything we came to find. We think we know the provenance of the Wayfinder (Relios), we know how the "prince" got wounded and have dealt with that problem, and there does not seem to be an actual portal, rather a one time summoning (although I am unclear how the creatures lasted so long here, perhaps a miscast spell?).
The only thing we don't have a real clear idea of is who this "prince" really is, maybe we should query the Almsman and see if he has any ideas?
Zuriel Heihachi
|
Perhaps Prince Gandros is actually Relios, the Pathfinder. After he witnessed the workings of the portal he went mad. The society may find the answers if they could use magic to cure his madness.
Tatiana Ungaro
|
Tatiana inspects the rubble that seems to be chocking off the stairway, which appears to be leading to a new stone foundation.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
I think someone should search the dead guy and the effigies.
If no one is interested in it, I would like to wear the brooch of shielding.
Zuriel Heihachi

If no one makes a move to claim the wand, Zuriel will stuff it in his belt.
Very well, I will see if I can find anything.
Searching corpse and effigies, Perception, take 20: 20 + 6 = 26

If it hasn't already been done. We could make sure, we thoroughly read the journal, and see if there is any reference that might be useful.
Torg Ice-Breaker

"Unless yall think we can get up those stairs I think we're done here. Should take the journal to Wallace and see to our little princeling. Maybe the Almsman will look after him in exchange for usage of these rooms.
Zuriel Heihachi
|
I think we should take both the journal and the remains, to give Relios a proper burial.
Tatiana Ungaro
|
I agree, It seems we have found what we were looking for. Tatiana follows Torg to turn in the information. She appears to be pleased about leaving the stink of the sewer.
Tatiana Ungaro
|
Tatiana pauses at Zuriel's suggestion. I agree with Zuriel. Tatiana then helps make preparations for the trip back.
Dolres
|
Dolres looks around for some cloth or something to wrap the corpse in so she can transport it.
Bevek Verdade
|
I'm not opposed to taking the body, but I'm not sure Relios really cares. Still, he was a pathfinder, so I guess he is due a bit of respect.
Bevek will assist the others with whatever preparations they want to make.
Revvy Bitterleaf
|
With some effort you are able to transport the corpse back to the lodge.
There arrangements will be made to give it a proper burial.
Unless you guys suggest otherwise (and have him committed) the "Prince" will return to the ruins that are now cleared of demons to live there in his delusion. He magnanimously grants you anything you want to keep from what you've found in the basement.
Venture-Captain Caudron Wallace is more relieved than disappointed that there is no otherworldly portal in the sewers, but mostly self-satisfied that the whole thing was a waste of his time as he predicted.
