Judah did not want to get closer to the massive troll, but he wasn't about to let his friends face them alone.
He patted himself down, trying to think of something he could do. His hands found the flask of academical fire they'd found at the chemical factory. Trolls hated fire, right? That's what the stories said.
He moved closer until he thought he was close enough, then hauled back and tossed the vial.

He looked down at his shaking hand like it had betrayed him. Shock, embarrassment and anger overwrote his fear. The polyhedron hanging from his belt clicked into a new configuration.

A massive serpentine thing erupted from the ground and lashed out at the troll.

Gate's CMD is 24. AC is 20, and has cover from the ground. I've re-positioned the troll so it is in the closest adjacent space to Gate. Gate is currently 10 feet underground. The troll is 5 feet underground, which means it's buried to the thighs or waist? Not sure how that will affect it.

Lorant's sword manages to slice the troll on the backswing, but then Gate bursts from the ground and wraps itself around the giant! Judah's toss with the alchemist's fire causes it to burst harmlessly against the side of the tower. The troll is now buried up to its thighs. The troll in the pit begins to claw its way to the surface, but it can't find purchase on the walls of the pit.

Sorry, time got away from me, and I didn't realize how long it had been since I posted. I've been working on cleaning out the storage room to transform it into an office, and it contains about five years' worth of boxes (not to mention all my RPG stuff).
Troll 1 finally climbs free of the pit and stands up (invoking attacks of opportunity from everyone, if desired). Troll 2 continues to be munched by the Gate, and the trollhound cowers within the pit.

Judah's unnatural guardian left the still body of the troll underground. As the ground above it compressed under the weight of the second troll, Gate lunged through the the ground like a striking serpent.

Gate doesn't know about Troll physiology and hasn't been ordered to decapitate them or anything, but I think Trolls still need to breathe. So if the first troll's regeneration isn't fast enough to wake it up and let it dig itself out, I think it's going to suffocate to death.

As Judah closed in with his crossbow he swore and started immediately backpedaling as the troll hauled itself out of the pit. Then Gate surged out of the ground, wrapped around it and dragged it under. He let out a relieved breath and looked around.
With his line of fire suddenly clear, he took a shot at one of the goblins in the gatehouse, and then reloaded.
This assumes Gate's Grab was successful and Judah isn't firing thorugh melee because the troll and gtate are underground. If that's not the case, Judah has a -4 to attack the goblin. Standard action, fire. Move, reload.

Gate bites the second troll nearly in half, then bursts from the ground and grabs the first troll, dragging it to ground as well. Judah looses a crossbow bolt that strikes a goblin between the eyes, killing it instantly. Lorant stabs at Troll 1 twice as Gate carries it by.

Judah fires at the newcomer, inflicting light damage. Lorant's strikes against the newly awakened troll follow this. The first one misses, but the other connects, and the troll goes limp again. The trollhound in the pit bays and scrambles at the sides of the pit but is unable to escape.
The other trollhound, however, bursts from around the corner, charging at Dylan! It misses, but the other troll also steps up behind it and swings at Dylan (Reach 10). This attack also misses.

Judah felt like time slowed when Lorant fell. Like he was moving through molasses. He heard someone screaming, and then realized it was him.
The pyramid hanging from his belt responded to his anger and fear like pressure valve on a steam engine. It clicked and ratcheted. Red light and smoke spilled from the cracks in the strange polygon, and from the ground in front of the troll. Fire started crawling out of the runescars in the dirt.
5' adjust and Casting Summon Monster 2 for a Fire Elemental. It'll finish at the start of my next action.

Trollhound 2 leaps at Dylan, narrowly missing his throat. Troll 3 strikes at Dylan with teeth and claw, managing to hit with a claw attack! Dylan takes 10 points of damage! With its opponent down, Troll 1 moves to engage with Judah, snapping at him. Judah is hit for 7 points of damage!

Something doesn't add up, but I'm not sure where it is. It's not obvious which of the two trolls is attacking, but either way attacking me should have required the troll to move.
Moving next to the pit requires a reflex save to keep from falling in. Also, Gate has reach and combat reflexes. Neither of those triggered, and I should be out of 5' adjust distance.
I moved off the map to give myself room to cast. If I could have gone further, I would have. I probably should have made it clear that I was trying to be out of 5' adjust distance before I started casting. Maybe I got the distances wrong.
Am I missing something? I'm willing to eat the attack and lose the spell. Judah is definitely panicking and could have made a mistake. I just don't want to get screwed because of things that got misunderstood or forgotten.

The troll does need to move to attack (which is why it only got one attack instead of three). However, you are correct that the pit requires a Reflex save, which I forgot, and for that, I apologize. I also forgot that Gate has Reach and CB (bad GM, bad!).
Troll Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
So the troll makes its Reflex save, but Gate should have an AoO. Go ahead and take that, and I will rewrite the move. I have added numbers to the trolls, so that might help in keeping things straight. Even if you moved to your maximum extent, the troll could still reach you (it has a move of 30, and 10-foot reach). Does that make more sense? I want to be fair, especially under the circumstances.

The thing that pulled itself clear of the pit was like a twisting campfire with clawed limbs and a single bright yellow point that gave the impression of an eye.
After looking around for a moment, it locked onto Judah, waiting.
"Kill the trolls," Judah whispered angrily.
Then he ran.
He rounded wide around where his horrid guardian and the troll battled until he could squeeze against the wall near where Lorant had fallen.
Double move around the fight. I'm not sure if the troll can make AoOs while grappled so I'm staying safe. Not getting within reach of the troll until the very last space of movement. Hopefully next round I can drag Lorant free.

The triangular mark around Judah's eye brightened, flame-like. A similar mark formed in the creature's fire. Somehow the fire grinned, then pounced on the troll that was wrapped in Gate's coils.
Small Fire Elemental with Augmented Summoning and Morphic Monsters to add the Claws evolution. On the map, the elemental was summoned 3 spaces south of Lorant. That should put it into position to full attack the troll fighting Gate.
Claw 1: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 2 = 8
Claw 2: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 - 2 = 11
Slam: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (9) + 6 - 5 = 10
And the bad roll streak continues.
The living flame lashed out at the troll, but wasn't able to land a solid hit.

Dylan attacks his foe, but his attack is less effective than he had hoped, and only succeeds in scratching the beast. Troll number 2 awakens, but finds itself still trapped by the Gate. Judah turns his elemental loose on the trolls, moving so as to evade possible attacks and get into position to help Lorant, who continues to bleed.
The trollhound tries to gnaw Dylan, but succeeds only in grabbing a mouthful of clothing. Troll number 3 lashes out at Dylan and the phantom (bite for the phantom, claws for Dylan). Both prove too well-protected for the troll to manage a hit. With a wicked crackling laugh, the elemental attacks Troll 1, but misses. Troll 1 retaliates by clawing stubbornly at the fire elemental, managing to both bite Gate and claw the elemental. The elemental proves too fast, but Gate takes 8 points of damage.
