Again, Gunari makes his way forward, up the stairs, hoping to run in to the assassin that was toying with them. Again, he prepared to strike if he had the chance. Denbora comes racing up the stairs. From behind him yet a mantis surrounded in red mist comes flying out of the room Denbora just exited. The Mantis does a swooping attack as it passes by Denbora, striking him once critically before retreating the way he came. The strike passes into Denbora's chest cavity, causing massive internal bleeding. Denbora looks down and sees that he now has a gaping chest wound that is bleeding profusely Bleed (5) damage.
Surprised by the sudden attack and the massive internal bleeding, Denbora is more surprised as the Mantis picks him up in his mandibles as a grapple and begins to fly away, biting him as he flees. He drops Denbora unexcitedly on the ground where Denbora lands prone with an "oof".
Meanwhile, at the top of the stairs!
Gunari takes a mantis appendage to his leg as he approaches the purple Mantis. A lucky hit indeed! In retaliation Gunari strikes down the enormous insect; blood sprays everywhere as it dies in one hit. Gunari is coated in what he figures must be buckets of blood, as if the creature was made out of the stuff..
The green Mantis lunges at Gunari. While the strike misses, it was quite impressive in power. The yellow Mantis flies over Gunari's head in the massive tunnel. As he moves into reach just behind Gunari, he strikes once. It too misses. The blue Mantis enters the space that the dead purple Mantis was once located and also misses. From down the tunnel you watch the orange Mantis fly (double move) down past Gunari towards Afficus.

Huge edits due to Jack reminding me how sanctuary works, since nobody actually casts sanctuary, especially at 10-11.
The Red Mantis flies past Kain before dropping 5 feet to make an attack from 10' up. It makes the attack as it flies past, not provoking any attacks of opportunity as he is too fast for Kain, and too far from Raven (attack location shown by the light outline of the mantis). After flying past, he banks slowly to the right making a wide circle around the room before ending 25' up. This Mantis is clearly not an agile flyer. Unfortunately for him, the attack missed.
Adjusting Gunari's attacks due to the reach attack from yellow, it being flying, and not in range of Gunari (sorry if that was unclear).
Meanwhile, at the top of the stairs Gunari fights on. His first strike wounds but does not kill the blue Mantis, where the second blow causes it to disappear in an explosion of red goo.

Okay - even though I disagree, a certain somebody has convinced me to let the whole "apply to another individual" thing slide. So attack goes through.
Though why did you roll a miss chance?
Kain Highwind
|
never had it ruled that way before. then i guess i am readied action to attack if it comes near. as for miss chance - i assume because of the red mist
Edit: for not charging, rolls are modified as two less to hit, and d8 instead of 2d6 on the damage. AC is up to 28.
GM.Boldr
|
Letting it go just to move things along - this is a rules gap though. Most (I had it happen just last week), will not allow use of potions on another without a full round action, even though it's only called out in the unconscious rules. Potions and oils, per that section of the rules, follow the same exact mechanism. Therefore, if you require it for potions, you must require it for oils. Or if you don't require it for potions on a conscious individual, you can't require it for oils.
As for the miss, that's not what red mist does. But something else does make that apply, so I'll just use that roll.

Kain's strike should have hit, but again passes through an ethereal version of the mantis, striking nothing but the space he used to occupy.
Afficus' fire gouts from the floor; however, the casting must have alerted the flying creature that then avoids the entirety of the damage by flying a little to the left.
Gunari's strike against the yellow Mantis strikes true, and he finds himself covered in more blood from the exploding creature.

The mantis holds his tropy above his head before promptly dropping him to the ground. Afficus waits in anticipation while Raven again braces for impact...
Denbora charges up the stairs, but his flying hammer misses the flying mantis mightily.
Defensive High I die: 1d100 ⇒ 96
You hear the Red Mantis mutter in strange clicks before he flies past everybody at blazing speed.
Afficus' two blasts go off. One hits it square in the chest while the other goes wide. You hear the creature grunt. First blood, it can be hurt!
The Orange Mantis continues to attempt to strike at Gunari, to little success.
Kain takes his one bleed.
Ya'll are up.

Gunari uses Cayden's blessings to make the Churchkey good... (giving it +1d6 good damage) and drops the sacred weapon... saving it for later. He moves down as near the mantis as he can get.
