You're just jealous that immunity to magical sleep is your boss ability!

![]() |

Did anyone hear that? I could have sworn I heard a child speaking...

![]() |

The hooded figure is speaking in Common, not Necril. Only the chanting is in Necril, but it has quieted now that the leader is speaking.
"Strength is, indeed, the goal of this ritual. But, newly awakened? What brings you to this forgotten temple? Please, step inside if we are to talk. I do not wish to have to shout to those who would lurk outside the doors."
2d8 ⇒ (8, 3) = 11

Sent Lamare a PM, asking if he's actually staying out of the building, or coming in.

Better to go to a trap in group than being alone. Also, it will be my first time visiting a Urgathoa temple. Tries to reassure himself Lamare.

"Awakened to undeath? Yes, I suppose that makes sense. I, too, have had a recent awakening. But not quite undeath, for it is an entirely different sort of life I have come to.
"When I was engaged in my research, I found a strange passage, whose meaning I could never quite discern, yet it stayed with me through all my days. Perhaps you have heard of it, Pathfinders? Oh yes, I know who you are. But listen."
"Cursed the ground where dead thoughts live new and oddly bodied, and evil the mind that is held by no head. Wisely did Ibn Schacabao say, that happy is the tomb where no wizard hath lain, and happy the town at night whose wizards are all ashes. For it is of old rumour that the soul of the devil-bought hastes not from his charnel clay, but fats and instructs the very worm that gnaws; till out of corruption horrid life springs, and the dull scavengers of earth wax crafty to vex it and swell monstrous to plague it. Great holes secretly are digged where earth's pores ought to suffice, and things have learnt to walk that ought to crawl."
As the figure speaks these last few words in nearly a shout, he steps back, so that the torch that previous threw him into shadow now reveals his face -- or rather, lack thereof. Where a face should be is a writhing, twisting, distorted mass of worms, red and thick and vile. A hand raises, and you can see this hand is also a mass of worms, formed into the flabby likeness of fingers and a palm.
"I'm glad you finally managed to find me, Pathfinders," the voice says. "You're a bit late, I'm afraid. The body that was Joktan Heth is no more -- devoured by the worms of Geb, and now I have a form that truly suits my growing appetites! You are here just in time to witness my greatest triumph. Here's where I'd explain in detail all my plans, giving you time to formulate a stratagem to foil them -- but I think I'll just kill you instead." He begins to cast a spell, and the ghouls before him move to attack.

To clarify, I mean people who are up in initiative but haven't taken an action. In this case, Elliot.
Elliot draws his silver waraxe and steps forward, preparing an attack against any creature that draws close enough.
Readied action to attack.
Velidor's first two shots hit Joktan, but the third misses. Velidor notices that the balls go right through the mass of worms, doing less damage than they would in a normal being of ordinary flesh and blood.
The ghouls look back at Joktan for guidance, and he casts a spell, causing their movements, and his, to seem to speed up. "Kill them! Get the gunslinger and the spellcasters first!" he shouts, while pulling out a scroll.
The first ghoul charges at Velidor with a hiss. Elliot swings his axe at the creature as it comes, hitting it powerfully, but some of the Ghoul's wounds close as soon as they are formed, and it does not fall. Fortunately, the hit throws the creature's charge off just enough to keep its jaws from closing around Velidor's neck.
Another ghoul charges forward, nimbly dodging past the party members, and, as Joktan ordered, attacks the spellcasters in the back. Note that this is before Lamare's action, so the benefit of the spell is not present. Velidor, I'm assuming you'd take an AoO available to you with your bite, so I rolled it for you. If you don't want to take it, just say so. Velidor snaps at it with his ghoul-like bite as it goes by, but his teeth close on empty air.
The ghoul's bite is more effective, however, and sinks into Iranar's shoulder. Iranar, you take 7 damage, and please make two Fortitude saves. If you have a bonus to saves against paralysis or disease, please note it.
Another ghoul charges at Veilwar and sinks its teeth into the smaller man as well. Veilwar takes 2 damage, and I need 2 Fortitude saves please.

If Iranar paralyse, Lamare take a 5 foot sort a scroll of remove paralysis to Iranar and cast it at him. If not, 5 foot step and still magic circle against evil.

Iranar has already declared an action that does that, approximately. Of course, that depends on not being paralyzed.

Iranar fends off the undead monstrosity's evil attacks, five-foot steps back away from it, and fires off the burst of radiance spell (listed above, will still target the worm that walks as a main focus, meaning it'll hit the green guy as well.)

Want to use the scroll on Veil war instead, Lemare, or go with the circle?

How are you getting 19 on the save for that spell, Iranar? I count 10+ spell level + Cha mod + spell focus = 18. Is there something I've overlooked?

hum... Use the scroll on Vilmar.
You are gonna pays me an another one Veilwar, when we are back in Absolom.

You're totally right, I miscalculated an extra +1 in there somehow. Correct DC is 18.

Velidor is waiting for the 'paladin' to smite evil....

![]() |

You're kidding right? Paladins of Asmodeus aren't all flashy and self aggrandizing when they smite. There aren't any flashy lights and holier than thou pronouncements when Milton smites. I'm smiting right now, you saw me destroy that ghoul right? Well, 37 damage might destroy it, who knows. The great thing about my smite ability, is that it works for the length of a fight, not just against one opponent. Asmodeus is more supportive of his Paladins than say Sarenrae, or Torag.
In short, Asmodean Paladins are a different archetype of Paladins, and surely folks in the world realize that not all characters of the same class are identical. Well, to the extent that they realize there classes and such.
I believe you saw me use weapon bond in the last fight.

![]() |

Velidor hits the ghoul and knocks it to the floor, but it continues to hiss and claw at him. Milton knocks another ghoul down, with a huge dent in its skull, and it doesn't move again. Poor ghouls, they don't even get to make a single full attack...

![]() |

There aren't any flashy lights and holier than thou pronouncements when Milton smites.
I guess there is no flashy and holier than thou pronouncement when Milton 'smites' cause he uses those abilities up whenever he speaks...

Using complex hand gestures, Veilwar creates Shadow Clone: 1d4 ⇒ 2 close to him. This functions as mirror image with his ninja level as his caster level. His three images then move to flank the ghoul by Velidor while drawing his kama.

Rather than risk rising, the ghoul Velidor knocked down attacks from its prone position. None of its attacks can get through his armor, however.
