"I hear it, but I am unsure what it is."
So there is no real action for me to take.

Velidor looks back at the others for a sign of concurrence to keep going..."This is the place they directed us to, shall we call out his name? If he is undead will he answer? This is not the hunting I am used to so all you faithy folks can offer advice."
never played this, never GMd this, dont have this scenario, i get the feeling folks do not want to get closer with all the hesitancy. do we bypass it?

I knew it.
"It a haunt ! A sort of undeath trap zone Use holy water and positive energy now! It works from most of them!
This is more of the still lignering negative emotion that exist than the people himself!"
-Posted with Wayfinder

@GM: Would you allow either the spell burst of radiance or the sorcerer bloodline ability heavenly fire to affect haunts? They don't necessarily do positive energy damage, but they do harm evil things.
I think heavenly fire would since it's healing which is generally positive energy, but burst of radiance doesn't have any indication that it is positive energy. You would need to hit an AC of 10 when using something with an attack roll.

This can be said before Lamare acts, so you who are going first can react to his words.

The haunt rules allow you to use it with an attack roll against AC 10. Keep in mind, however, this is a surprise round, so one action (standard or move) only. (Swift and free actions are fine as well.)

![]() |

No, it's not a spell effect.

![]() |

Velidor stops in his tracks...What is a haunt, I know nothing of the occult world. Won/t positive healing hurt us though, in this form we have as our disguise?" he asks just before the sh!t hits the fan...

![]() |

Milton, with only a standard or move action available to you, Disrupt Undead may be your best option to try to inflict positive energy damage to the haunt. Velidor, I don't think you have any way to do anything to the haunt. Veilwar spent his move action taking out his vial of holy water. Elliott moved up. Iranar and Milton, you guys use spells and/or special abilities if you want, just post them, then I'll see if enough damage has been done to prevent the haunt from fully manifesting.

![]() |

Yeah i know Velidor has no way to combat this manifestation of evil, was just RPing his ignorance on the subject. Velidor is just here up front to take the alpha if it comes.

Iranar fires off a ray of good energy at the haunt, hoping to destroy it quicly.
ranged touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Iranar and Milton send beams of positive energy at the haunt, hoping to overwhelm it, but to no avail.
The sounds get louder and closer, until there appears a translucent figure of a person that looks like the drawing of Joktan Heth you were shown in Skyreach, except with the changes and additions that you experienced after drinking from the chalice. You have to admit that, without prior knowledge to the contrary, you would definitely have assumed he was a ghoul.
Joktan stumbles, falling over a stone as he looks back, and as he struggles to right himself, the translucent figure of Kuryn Jexel steps up to him. "By the Lady of Graves, I banish thee!" the faint echo of words comes, even as Joktan pleads, "I'm not a ghoul, I'm not!" Kuryn's hand glows and he reaches forward to slam his palm onto Joktan's chest.
As he does so, the growing power of the haunt erupts in a spasm of energy. The only ones within its range are Iranar and Velidor, and they take the impact as if hit by the spell they see the image of Kuryn casting. Velidor takes 23 damage, and Iranar takes 29. A fortitude save, DC 16, halves this damage.
After this burst, the images fade, and all that is left is a foreboding feeling that this will happen again.
Lamare suspects that if the area is doused in holy water and he prays for a blessing from his goddess, as well as apologizing for the ignoble manner of Joktan's death, the haunt may fade away. However, as this is not Joktan's actual spirit, it would not be necessary to do this in order to have him raised if you can find his body.
Iranar notices something shiny in the mud and rocks below. Further examination reveals this is a wayfinder, bent and crushed as if someone stepped on it.
damage to Iranar: 4d8 + 7 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 6) + 7 = 29

Fascinated by the spirit show Velidor forgets to duck up until the last second...FORT: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 and gets hit with half the damage...

Fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Iranar braves the damage, steeling himself against it.
"Well, that was painful. I will need to be healed, and I assume you as well, Velidor?"
Iranar will hand Velidor his wand of cure light wounds and ask him to use it, offering charges to Velidor as well.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Oh dammit... Totally forgot. Ugh. Lol pretty sure I would have stopped after one though. will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
"could someone with that other wand please heal us? I am not used to this disgusting form..."

what type of damage is this. But the way. Lamare will use wand of inflict. You only need to say the number of charge.
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

It's positive energy damage, actually. Would not hurt a living creature.

Elliot watches the haunt erupt and the fading images after the burst. He gets a wand out of his backpack. "You may use this one as well, I'm not trained in using it."

![]() |

Velidor first checks to see that the haunt or whatever it is that did this is gone, no need to incur another attack.
"Is it safe to check now, let us first deal with his body. Will that thing come back and attack us? I would rather do what we need to do, leave this area and then worry about heals... or anti heals...Where is the body?" Velidor checks the area...
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
for when the time comes 2 charges at 5.5 each will suffice. thank you

![]() |

As far as I can tell, Velidor has no way to determine whether or not the haunt has gone. That would require detect evil or detect undead or something similar. However, with a perception check like that...
Velidor examines the area and notices that the cairn is not disturbed at all, so it would appear that anything buried under it is still there.
The question remains, though, why a wayfinder would have been dropped here and stepped on.

![]() |

After about 18 seconds of concentrating, Milton determines that there is still a faint evil aura where he detected it before.

![]() |

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
"I believe the effect will happen again. Let us observe a few cycles to understand the timing, before we plan a path forward. We will either need to 'fix' that which is broken here, or we will need to retrieve the body between occurrences of the effect."

![]() |

And this is why I hate haunt. ok. This haunt relive is final moment. Perhaps we need to cast a spell that will stop the positive energy? I wish we had a medium with us

![]() |

Lamare suspects that if the area is doused in holy water and he prays for a blessing from his goddess, as well as apologizing for the ignoble manner of Joktan's death, the haunt may fade away.
Reposting this to make sure Lamare sees it, I think he may have overlooked it. This is based on the very high knowledge(religion) roll you made before.

Ok! Let's Dance!says loudly Lamare. All of you, take your holy water and your instrument, it's time pray Desna style!
With his starknife and Lamare starts to jump around the haunt and to weave his arms. Maybe he is dancing just very badly. There no rythme on his steps. He doesn't look like it is a ritual. He just trying to dance.
Oh Desna! Goddess of Travaler, dream and luck, tell the priest. It me, Lamare. I thank you for your protection and this journey and for the good dream I had last night.
He does a 360 but Lamare loses some balance.
We had almost lose our soul in this nightmare, but your help,oh fighter of those who corrupt the night, has turned this for a dream come true for many people.
While always "dancing", Lamare opens a bottle of holy water and soaks the ground with it. His shirt also.
But, time is dire. Our Friend Joktan in living a constant nightmare. A part of him relive constantly his horrible death. Jotktan, my follow pathfinder, if your hear me, I am sorry. The ten shouldn't have left you alone. If we, as pathfinder, would have been there, that horrible death would be just a bad dream.
Desna! Help Joktan! Give him the Strength to fight against this neverending nightmare.
Oh Desna, may the luck and the butteflys be with him.
Oh Desna, just be you.
And Lamare continues to dance. Waiting for other to come.

Velidor takes a step back and in a rare moment of the cosmos, agree with Milton...

![]() |

You haven't seen me when I impersonnate a cleric of Cayden. Create water (alcool) was the most used spell.
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

The holy water being splashed around on the ground, combined with Lamare's sincere (albeit somewhat unconventional) prayers to the Song of the Spheres allow the oppressive feeling to gradually fade. After his ritual is completed, another scan by Milton reveals that the aura of evil is gone.
This requires two holy water applications, so please mark off two vials. If Lamare doesn't have two, someone else will need to mark one off.

![]() |

Iranar joined Lamare in the dance, enjoying a bit of fun in the midst of so much unhappiness.

![]() |

"Well then, now that that is finished, what next. Dig him up? Consecrate the grave, retrieve his wayfinder here on the ground?"
Velidor also looks around for any signs of tracks, might be a mute point, but he would do that anyway. He also pockets the wayfinder for lodge return, if no one else objects.

![]() |

"Not that I expect any of you to care, but why is the wayfinder in the fashion it is? The Pharasman said she knew when she buried him, that he was a Pathfinder. Why not bury him with his wayfinder? And certainly, why destroy and trample it? And again, as I have pointed out before, Joktan Heth was not alone in his mission here. Yet, we only have received information about his whereabouts. There may very well be other Pathfinders that need rescuing, and while the rest of you don't care about punishing Pathfinder killers, I do."
Milton will inspect the broken wayfinder, to see if there is a way to determine who it belongs to. You know, an inscription, or something like that. Does it have an ioun stone in it?
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24

![]() |

The Wayfinder has no Ioun stone. You can find no identifying marks.
You could deconstruct the cairn and dig up the body, assuming it is where the Pharasmins said they buried it, with a few hours work.
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

"Hmm looks like it may take a while to dig this out. Will that eerie spirit return during that time or is it gone for good?"

![]() |

The haunt does not appear again while you dig. It appears to be gone for good.
Unfortunately, after digging for hours, you find signs of disturbed soil, but no body.
