Fixing her eyes on the flying dwarf woman, Ophelia spins her holy symbol across her fingers and fixes her with the clutch of the grave.
Casting hold person on the flying dwarf woman. DC 17 Will save or paralyzed for 7 rounds.
| GM Harker |
I'm not sure where that red star on the map came from either, but it's now removed.
Quiella hits the greased bugbear in the head with her hammer and it falls unconscious in the slippery substance. Her subsequent attack on the other bugbear does not hit.
Vailis loads his light crossbow and fires a bolt that hits the flying dwarf that causes some minor injuries. Coco moves around the room in a manner avoiding opportunity attacks and attempts to smack the bugbear with Abysium Codex, but the heavy metal plate book is not designed for combat and the attack misses.
Ophelia tries to paralyze the flying adversary with magic, but the dwarf successfully resists the spell.
The remaining bugbear steps over to Quiella and fails to hit her with its morningstar.

question...if I were to make a lasso and throw it at the dwarf, would true strike help? Do I even know how to make a lasso?
-Posted with Wayfinder
| GM Harker |
Mel, a lasso is a weapon found in the game. So, if you want to use one, you'll first need to make a Crafts check as a standard action. If you succeed, then you've turned an end of your rope into a basic lasso. You'll then need to make a ranged attack with a -4 since you are not proficient with the weapon, then another -4 for a range penalty. However, you can use True Strike with this attack roll. There's no range listed on a lasso, so I'm going to say it has a range of 10 feet.
Zeno hits the flying dwarf with a arrow that slips through her armor to penetrate her side. She groans in unexpected pain.

"I'm not going to die today after all this." The flying dwarf swears to herself as she takes more injury from her bleeding arrow wound and then moves swiftly across the ceiling, down fifteen feet to the hallway and finally 80 feet back down the hallway that the group came from. The hallway is 300 feet long, so she's not actually in the previous room, but just 80 feet down the hallway. I placed here there to give you an exact idea of how many squares she is away from you all now.

Combat Over
The bugbears carry only a simple morningstar and a javelin.
On the robed man's body, you find two light green potions, 1 dark blue potion, three magic wands, a masterwork dagger, a quarterstaff, a magical cloak, a magical ring, and 48 gp.
While on the dwarf, you discover 2 purple potions, another dark blue potion, a suit of masterwork full plate, a heavy steel shield, a masterwork battleaxe, a light crossbow with 20 bolts, a silver holy symbol of Abadar, and 12 gp.
They are Cure Light Wounds potions.
They are Cure Serious Wounds potions.
They are Cure Moderate Wounds potions.

After the brief combat finishes, you all have an opportunity to look around the room and wonder at the thousands of items stored upon the walls. Perhaps this is where you can find the items you need for the ritual?
It'll take a 10 minute search and a DC 15 Perception check to find the items you need. Please note that each item takes an individual check. To refresh your memories, those items are:
• Ivory statuette of the lich Takaral
• Child’s wooden training katana
• Golden brick taken from the city of Axis
• Onyx merchant’s scales

Coco also quickly becomes innately aware that he can open the 18-foot-tall solid iron double doors by simple touching them with the Abysium Codex.

Afterwards, Coco presses the Abysium Codex against the west doors and they open.
Beyond the doors, the next room is a vaulted chamber whose walls are lined by numerous statues of soldiers from different cultures and eras. Standing in the center is what looks like a metal centaur, with golden clockwork wings sprouting from its back and barbed chains at the end of its arms instead of hands. It's form looks a bit withered and sunken, and its countenance suggests it's in pain.
Nevertheless, it appears to be waiting for you and asks, "Why do you seek the Abysium Heart?"

Only Zeno recognizes the creature as a Zelekhut Inevitable. These living machines hunt down those who flee just and legal punishments. He also recalls that chaotic aligned weapons work best against them and they possess spell resistance.
The Inevitable silently judges Quiella's words for a few moments before nodding and moving aside, "You may pass. My condition is of no concern to you."
True to his word, it allows you to pass. Coco then places the Abysium Codex onto the next set of doors which open in response.

Dominating this next chamber is a vast statue—twenty-five feet tall, composed of a strange blue-green metal shaped in the likeness of a Tian woman wearing exotic robes. It’s partially shrouded in a churning vortex of multi-colored energy that hisses and crackles with menace. Extending from the statue to the walls, floor, and ceiling is an immense web-like array of shimmering energy tendrils that seem to phase in and out of reality. A white marble altar, studded with dozens of multi-colored glass knobs and metal levers, lies a few feet in front of the statue.
The altar is dedicated to the god Abadar.
As the group enters the room, a bolt of electricity shoots out from the vortex, striking Ophelia! Ophelia takes 19 damage from the lightning bolt, reduced to 9 damage with a DC 20 Reflex save
Afterwards, a mass of lightning flies out of the vortex and takes on a vaguely humanoid form. Still hovering off the ground, it attacks Quiella twice with its 15 foot reach, hitting the flat-footed paladin with both slams. Move: start advice, +2 atk/damage, +2 vs fear. Standard: go total defensive, with crane wing to benefit
Benefit: When fighting defensively with at least one hand free, you gain a +4 dodge bonus to AC against melee attacks. If you using the total defense action instead, you can deflect one melee attack that would normally hit you. An attack so deflected deals no damage and has no other effect (instead treat it as a miss). You do not expend an action when using this feat, but you must be aware of the attack and not flat-footed.
Valik, seeing that the creature has superior reach compared to him decides to do the best thing he can...give advice. He rallies his allies on as much as possible.

Zeno, for his part, has always found the concept of "acting as one" a little unsettling - after all, the anthropoid races are like the opposite of coral: the more of them bunch together, the uglier and stupider they all get. Zeno recognizes that this creature is a Huge Lightning Elemental. They are moderately resistant to all weapon damage as well as immune to electric attacks and possess the same immunities as all elementals such as immunity to critical strikes and precision damage. He also remembers that they can more easily hit those wearing metal armor and/or carrying metal weapons.

Re: Bless. Sorry, I was distracted when I said it was active and had forgotten about the 20 minute search at the time. My mistake, it is not active. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Zeno. Coco would have missed the elemental since there was no Bless, but since the error was on my part the attack will stand.
Melufiuos casts Mirror Image and 5 illusory duplicates form around him. As he moves away from the group, he also notices that the knobs and levers on the altar appear to be linked to whatever shot lightning at Ophelia. With that in mind, he might be able to disable it before it fires lightning at someone again.
The elemental ignores the flying Coco and moves 5 feet to the northeast to position itself to make two more slam attacks against Quiella. Despite the destructive lightning elemental hovering over his head, Melufiuos steps over to the altar and begins attempting to disable the magical trap.
Zeno fires another arrow that hits its mark, but yet again it seems resistant to the damage.
Vailis steps away from the elemental and casts Haste on the group, while Coco hovers in place, dropping the Abysium Codex 15 feet to the ground. The book falls to the floor with a loud clank. With both his hands free, the eidolon claws the enemy three times and once again the elemental foe resists a great deal of the damage.
Valik starts to tumble through the air as he flies up to attack the elemental, but fails to barrel roll with sufficient dexterity and leaves himself open to attack.
