Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

The assassin lifts his blade as he prepares to move towards Guaril, then is suddenly overcome with fear. He begins slashing madly at some unseen foe...

Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

...and with one sluggish last thrust, he stabs weakly at the air and he collapses to the ground, completely limp.

From the far side of the ship, a caster flies up and hovers just over the deck between the remaining assassin and Guaril. He casts a spell, and winks out, along with the assassin. Suddenly, a few seconds later, the assassin blinks back into view as he fires a shot from his shortbow at Guaril before dropping his bow and approaching while drawing a pair of Kukri.

Spellcraft DC 18:
The spell used was Invisibility Sphere

Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 2 + 2 = 15

Guaril is caught unaware by the assailant and suffers a painful blow.

Bulgo dashes up the side of the ship.

Drawing his daggers as he runs, he admires the nice new magical one as he hops barrels and ducks under rope.

In the end he is providing Guaril the flank he asked for, but doesn't have time to strike himself.

30' base move, he can make the distance without attracting an AOO if I did my calculations correctly.

Peran scrambles off the row boat as he pulls out a rod for future use and onto Guaril's larger ship before firing a potent lightning bolt at the red assassin.

As the lightning bolt strikes the man's square instead of continuing along, it takes a sudden turn straight up, right towards where the caster turned invisible.

Assassin Reflex Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

You hear some cursing come from where the caster was, so you get a pretty good idea he was hit, however the Assassin is able to avoid the bolt completely.

As soon as Bulgo takes his position, Guaril stabs at the assassin in melee with him.

Attacks: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 301d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 6d6 + 1d4 + 1 + 6d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 4) + (3) + 1 + (5, 5, 6, 3, 3, 2) = 58

Both swipes of his dagger land cleanly, and the assassin is quite effectively dropped to the ground with lethal efficiency.

GM

These creatures are (as the initiative block says because I'm apparently bad at hiding information) devilfish. Although the devilfish superficially resembles a seven-armed octopus, it is an altogether different creature. Possessing a rudimentary intellect, a devilfish can understand and even speak a few words and phrases in various languages, although when it speaks, it has a tendency to mix languages together, making it somewhat difficult to understand for anyone who doesn’t speak all the languages known by the devilfish.

More than those of a mere animal, the devilfish’s intelligence and several of its abilities are gifts from a fiendish legacy—most sages believe that the original devilfish were once outsiders from the Abyss, and that over the course of thousands of years they became true natives of the Material Plane’s oceans. Rumors of far more intelligent devilfish dwelling in the deepest ocean trenches persist, although if these rumors are true, these deep-dwelling devilfish do not often come to the surface.

The creatures are particularly resistant to cold, and have a poisonous bite. Additionally, they can spray a cloud of magic infused blood, that can inhibit vision in an area around them, both on land and underwater. This blood is particularly nauseating to anyone caught in the spray.

Guaril looks over and sees the creatures approaching. "The chum was supposed to attract sharks, not these things..."

A Lawful Neutral Druman? Seriously? Ah, well, it's Guaril who owes him, not I.

Sihir struggles with the baleful magic, but somehow, the abrupt thought of a Middle Western teapot clarifies his understanding.

Guaril gasps and inhales a huge lungful of air. He very slowly pushes himself to his feet, takes a few seconds to catch his breath, smooth his mustache, and look around the top deck of the boat. After he seems convinced that nobody else is trying to kill him, he takes a seat.

“Every investment is a gamble, and it seems this paid off— barely. I assume that sly fox Aaqir told you about the plan, yes? Let your enemies see you in a moment of weakness, allow them to strike and taste blood, then lure them toward a trap while they think they’re winning. I, ah,” he motions noncommittallytoward some of the blood staining the deck, “think I may have let them taste too much blood tonight. You can imagine how thrilled Uncle Guaril is that a few of his heavily armed friends happened to be in the neighborhood in his time of need,” he remarks while flashing a knowing smile.

“Speaking of deals and mutual backscratching, you should know that Aaqir and I have nearly finished one to help us perform the other. I got a little too ambitious in Varisia and made a few enemies we didn’t intend to unleash, and that’s made staying in business as we are... less than wise. Fortunately, Aaqir’s looking for talent like ours, and I’m not really in a position to say no."

“That’s not to say I’m breaking up the family business—hardly the case. This is just a mutually beneficial marriage of two honest enterprises in which everyone gets a juicy cut—so long as we play nice with our proverbial in-laws. Be prepared to be even more upstanding than usual, but be ready to do things the old fashioned way. This is the start of something big.”

Bulgo picks through the gear of the assassins and the spell caster as Guaril speaks.

"Anyone tell if this is magical?" he asks, taking quite note of the Scazni's words.

The sapphire sage will be interested in this news, no doubt at all.

"Let us get you ashore then Mr Guaril. And maybe to a cleric."

The caster was actually an arcane caster specializing in divination.

With the application of positive energy, the spring returns to Guaril's step. "Thanks for the patch up. I'm definitely going to need some rest after that. Those assassins were of the Gael family. They once were one of my most elusive foes. As of today, that is no longer the case."

"We're pleased to be able to help such an important pathfinders.." says Bulgo, still going through the possessions of the caster.

"Maybe we should get you to shore now..."

Sure I'll spend the extra point to hit the squidly thing too, ended up with less internet this weekend than expected.

There are a total of 10 magic items and potions in the mix of gear. For expedience I'll roll your spellcraft checks for you, but if you have anything else other than the skills as written let me know. I'll begin part 3 tomorrow which will be a new day once again.

After gathering the gear from the Gael foes, Guaril shoves the bodies overboard and joins you in the boat back to shore. "Time for me to return to Aaqir and finalize our new arrangement. You've done well today, and Uncle Guaril will certainly remember."

Returning to shore, Guaril guides you to a specific dock where a few guards await him and prepare to escort him the rest of the way. With a smile and nod, he departs, leaving you to find your way back to your lodgings for a good night's rest. Maybe tomorrow you'll be able to enjoy the food at the party?

Bulgo once again changes clothes. And has a bath.

"I avoided the worth of that ink/stink, but really, even being down wind a little.."

Once back in his finary the halfling makes sure his first visit in the party is to the cold drinks table, and then armed with a glass of wine he approaches the buffet table with only one thought in mind. Chicken wings.
